Based on the first observation made by researcher, many student of the 5 “A” class students at MIN 20 Aceh Besar, did not dare to speak Arabic in front of their teachers and friends because they were afraid of making mistakes when speaking. And in the Classroom, students are not enthusiastic about learning, because the teacher does not use various methods in learning Arabic, especially in learning speaking skills. To overcome this problem, researchers want to apply the Make a Match method to improve students’ speaking skills. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of applying the Make a Match method to improve students’ abilities in speaking skills and to determine the activities of theachers and student during the speaking skills learning process. The methodology of this research is an experimental approach with preliminary design. The researchers uses the (One Group Pre-test and Post-test Design). Researchers The researcher performs pre-test, post-test, and direct observation as a method of collecting data. The Result of this research is: (1) the application of the Make a Match method is effective in improving students’ ability to speak in MIN 20 Aceh Besar. It appears from the result of the T-Test at which shows a significance level (2-tailed) sig. 0,000, which is less than the result of the significance level of 0,005. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. The teacher activities in applying the Make a Match method in teaching the speaking skill is very good. The Results of observing teacher activities were 92,5% with a very good grades. And the results of observing student activities were 90% with very good scores.
