Summary 1.Observations of the level of gastric acidity after large and varying doses of insulin are presented as they were obtained in a single individual during a course of insulin shock treatment. Large variations were noted in acid values from day to day under apparently identical conditions. 2.No clear relationship was found between the acid response and the level of hypoglycemia, the dose of insulin or the degree of clinical insulin shock. 3.Neither massive doses of insulin nor profound hypoglycemia inhibited the parietal cell response. 4.No exhaustion of the parietal cells was noted after this prolonged stimulation.
