The social construction of transvestites which has so far been still far from what is expected, transgenders in general often get stereotypes that have long taken root so that they become individuals/groups who are marginalized in society. They tend to be shunned because religion and morality are big questions due to their tendency to like same-sex. This construction is entrenched and to this day, they have not received a proper place and are made as human beings as usual. Related to this, there is a novel called "Perempuan Tanpa V" which tells of transvestites in different perspectives. Because of that the writer wants to study this novel and further find out the construction of transvestites he wants to convey. This study uses Gadamer's hermeneutics approach as an analysis knife. The definition of transvestites in this novel eventually leads to the construction of transvestites who are built more positively, are not discriminatory, and try to break the stereotype of transvestites that has been understood by the community: irregularities and immorality.

HERMENEUTIKA GADAMERIAN UNTUK MEMAHAMI KUALITAS AUDIT (PEMERIKSAAN KEUANGAN) BPK RI

This research aim is to get an understanding of the financial audit quality of BPK RI by interpretative paradigm approach and Gadamer’s Hermeneutics as technical data analysis (text). The data (text) has shown that BPK RI still has low financial audit quality whereas people of Indonesia (as stakeholders) have expectation for high financial audit quality. Conversely, BPK RI has claimed for having high financial audit quality. Financial audit quality of BPK RI measured based on compliance of audit practice with the code of ethics and auditing standards. The results showed that the financial audit quality of the BPK RI is not in accordance with the claims, which can be observed from non-compliance with the code of ethics and auditing standards. Operationalising the Multidimensional Role of the Paramedic Preceptor

Introduction This study reports on a subset of findings from a recent doctoral study by the first author, which explored the lived experience of being a paramedic preceptor to novice paramedics in their first year of on-road practice. Methods A qualitative methodology underpinned by Gadamerian hermeneutics was chosen for this study. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with a purposive sample of 11 paramedic preceptors from an Australian government-funded ambulance service. Interviews were audio-recorded and data analysis proceeded from the interview transcripts. Results Analysis revealed the paramedic preceptor to be a complex, multidimensional role that is operationalised within four key domains: coach, role model, socialiser and protector. Expectedly, a core function of being a paramedic preceptor is that of coach, supporting and scaffolding novices as they learn to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Preceptors also appear to play an integral role in the professional socialisation of new employees, and are an important role model of professional behaviours and an empathetic healthcare provider. The paramedic preceptors in this study also viewed their role as a critical advocate for patient safety in the clinical practice environment. Advocacy and protection by the preceptor extended to the novice too, safeguarding their physical and emotional wellbeing during the learning process. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to specifically explore paramedic preceptorship from the perspective of preceptors in an Australian context. Therefore it provides an important contribution to understanding how paramedic preceptors operationalise this educative role in the clinical practice environment.

Self-Other Relationship, History and Interpretation

Abstract This paper offers a critical appraisal of Gadamer’s dialogical philosophy of the self-other relationship within the context of interpretation and historical consciousness. According to Gadamer hermeneutics is a theory of interpretation or, rather, the art of interpretation. The task of philosophical hermeneutics is to narrate an ontology of human understanding with the ethical intent of restoring to interpretation a greater sense of “integrity.” The “hermeneutic universe” belongs to the individual worldviews whose structure and content are constructed on the basis of historical precedents. Gadamer situates these precedents in historicity and the tradition of culture, which are resources for their unique interpretations. Gadamer claims that interpretative understanding encounters the other in the dialogical “play” (Spiel) of an ever-unfinished event. The self and the other belong to the horizon of historical consciousness, and it is through this common horizon that the alterity of the other comes into expression.

Gadamerian Hermeneutics in An Artistic Process of Retno Maruti And Bulantrisna Djelantik’s Bedoyo-Legong Calonarang

<p class="Default">The research is to investigate the existence of <em>Bedoyo-Legong Calonarang</em>,<em> </em>as a dance piece, which its creation based to reinterpretation towards tradition and indigenous wisdom. The dance brings Indonesian classical idioms and mythological sphere into a dynamic contemporary. The dance attempts to avoid either the clichés or<em> </em>destructive forms. It is imperatively seeking the ontology of <em>Bedoyo-Legong Calonarang </em>through investigating hermeneutical aspects in the process of creating, conceptual sphere, and spectacle representation. The juxtaposition, in which the dance is presented, is a unique way to accommodate the process of inter-subjective understanding respectively amongst choreographers, aesthetical values of Java and Bali, the myth of <em>Calonarang</em>, and today’s reality.</p><p class="Default"> </p><p class="Default">A philosophical qualitative is the foreground to investigate a new understanding about artworks through Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutics. Such perspective provides the interwoven understanding towards contemporary (of art-works), the critique of aesthetics, revitalizing the tradition, and dialogical pattern inside the effort of the fusion of horizons. Gadamerian hermeneutics is confidentially constructed through identifying choreographic concept and aesthetic codes from the analysis of dance structure and representation. <em>Bedoyo-Legong Calonarang</em> achieves its innovative, artistic ontological existence and its spiritual field, in the middle of Indonesian contemporary society. Why H. G. Gadamer’s “Philosophical Hermeneutics” Cannot Belong to the “Metaphysics of Presence”?

H. G. Gadamer’s “philosophical hermeneutics” elicited a controversial response in contemporary philosophy. R. Rorty and G. Vattimo tried to impart a more relativistic shade to H. G. Gadamer’s hermeneutics. In contrast, J. Derrida was inclined to consider H. G. Gadamer hermeneutics more dependent on the previous epoch of “metaphysics of presence”. This article purposes to reveal the points of contact and division between the thinking strategies employed by hermeneutics and deconstruction, providing theoretical arguments why H. G. Gadamer hermeneutics should not be reduced to the so-called “metaphysics of presence”. The question whether H. G. Gadamer’s hermeneutics belongs to “metaphysics of presence” or not is closely intertwined with the problem of dogmatism of meaning and relativism of meaning. J. Derrida was inclined to regard H. G. Gadamer’s hermeneutic as a theory of a search for and discovery of a pre-existing or objective meaning which accounts for the theory’s persistent belonging with metaphysical dogmatism. In opposition to such judgement, this article seeks to substantiate the following thesis: in H. G. Gadamer’s hermeneutics which is based on the “good will” to understand, the problem of dogmatism of meaning (there is one universal objective meaning or truth) and relativism of meaning (there is a multitude of meanings open to interpretation without reference to the primary signified) can be solved by taking into consideration the way offered by E. Husserl phenomenology, i.e. by understanding any possible “thing” (die Sache) as a “thing-in-itself” only in different perceptual perspectives (die perspektivischen Abschattungen).

Gadamer's Rhetorical Conception of Hermeneutics as the Key to Developing a Critical Hermeneutics

The rhetorical dimensions of Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics have not been fully developed by his commentators, resulting in an overly conservative rendering of his philosophy. Drawing out the rhetorical features of his work, we find that Gadamer regards textual interpretation as a rhetorical accomplishment. This characterization leads to a rich conception of critical hermeneutics. The article develops Gadamer's rhetorical hermeneutics by contrasting his approach with Paul Ricoeur's famous intervention in the Gadamer-Habermas debate, and looks to Gadamer's account of legal practice as a manifestation of critical hermeneutics in action.

The possible meanings of care: self-care and care-for-the-other

To understand and to reflect about care based on the experiences of managers, professionals and users of maternal and child health services. We developed an evaluative research with a qualitative approach in a Northeastern state of Brazil with extensive experience in the regionalization and implementation process of integrated health networks. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 68 subjects and direct observation of the maternal and child health services. We adopted the theoretical reference framework of Gadamer's hermeneutics to analyze the narratives. Some units of meaning were present, such as: perception and knowledge about oneself; exercise of autonomy; weaknesses in the provision of resources for the materialization of self-care; and difficulties in accessing health services and care practices. We perceive that care is dynamic, comprises various subjective aspects with respect to the singularities of the subjects and is related to the possibility of generating both individual and collective transformation. Care is built based on a movement among the subjects and between them and the social and health services. Thus, when we intend to take care, we need to consider this instead of focusing care solely on the technical support of health professionals.

HERMENEUTIKA HANS-GEORG GADAMER DAN SIGNIFIKANSINYA TERHADAP PENAFSIRAN AL-QURAN

The paper discusses the introduction of hermeneutics, Gadamer's biography, Gadamer's hermeneutics and Quranic exegesis, and examples of interpreters using the Gadamer hermeneutics model. hermeneutics tried to grasp the meaning of the Quranic text. Meaning comes from the German "Meinen" which means "to be in the mind or right." Meanings are produced on the basis of a fusion of horizon or a mixture of the author's horizon of thought, reader, and text. interpretation is a productive act involving the subjectivity of the interpreter and is influenced by the historical reality and the presupposition of the interpreter. Gadamer hermeneutics is widely applied in the way of interpretation of the Qur'an bi al-ra'yi.

A genealogy of critique: Fromparrhesiato prophecy

This article addresses contemporary concerns about critique through an interpretation of the “writing prophets.” This approach draws on Foucauldian genealogy and suggests that alongside Greek parrhesia, Old Testament prophecy is a key forerunner of contemporary critical discourses. Our analysis draws upon Weber’s interpretative historical sociology and Gadamerian hermeneutics but shifts the emphasis from charisma to critique, through a direct engagement with prophetic texts. In particular, prophetic discourse claims to reveal injustice and idolatry and speaks from a position of transcendence within immanent historical moments. Prophets position their own era as a moment of crisis, and themselves as liminal figures, opposed to the delusion of others and “false prophets” which resonates with contemporary conceptions of “ideology.” Rather than focusing on historical individuals, we approach prophecy as a discourse, multiple and hybrid, discontinuous, and contradictory, yet constituting a distinctive precursor which informs contemporary critique.

The awareness of human finitude and creativity

In the article, I argue that Gadamer's hermeneutic phenomenology could serve as a basis for the understanding of contemporary social challenges by providing us with pre-requirements for conducting responsible ethics and politics, particularly due to its exposition of awareness of our finiteness, the importance of conversation and the significance of practical wisdom (phronesis). I also claim that Gadamer's hermeneutics cannot be fully appropriated and that it should be supplemented with the philosophy that is attentive to the ever-present possibility of radical difference which eludes domestication and demands creative response to its challenge. I emphasize the role of imagination in responsible approaching to the true alterity and investigate Kant's, Castoriadis' and Ricoeur's insights into said faculty. I conclude that both the awareness of our historicity, which orients us in the world, and imagination, which assists us in reaching to the other, must be recognized as the pre-conditions of responsible ethical action in contemporary society.

Kantian Turning Point in Gadamer’s Philosophical Hermeneutics

The paper is treating the theme of a Kantian turning-point in the philosophical hermeneutics of H.- G. Gadamer based on of the harmonic relationship between metaphysics and science in Kantian philosophy from the point of view of the philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer. The philosophical work of Kant had such an influence on Gadamer that without exaggerating we can talk about the Kantian turning-point in Gadamerian hermeneutics. Grondin, a former student of Gadamer, is talking about Kantian turning-point on the field of aesthetics, but in reality Kantian turning-point means much more than a mere change in the reception of the concept of judgement. It is a discovery of harmonical relationship between the beauty and the moral, between the reason and the sensitivity, between the modern sciences and the metaphysical tradition in the Kantian philosophy, made by Gadamer. This is what we call the Kantian turning-point in Gadamerian hermeneutics.

LEIBNIZ Y LA HERMENEUTICA: PERSPECTIVISMO Y FUSION DE HORIZONTES

The goal of this paper is to present an approach to the convergences and divergences between Leibniz’s thought and the gadamerian hermeneutics, as an essay to justify Leibniz’s philosophy from the point of view of a contemporary view on rationality. Hermeneutics propose a “weak” concept of reason that is based in the notion of melting of horizons. Indeed, the melting of horizons can be interpreted as a form of perspectivism. In turn, Leibnizian perspectivism is examined from the point of view of the universal harmony and of the concept of expression as its ground. In this way, the possibility of establishing correspondences and transformations among different perspectives can be considered as a Leibnizian equivalent to the gadamerian melting of horizons. Moreover, through the notion of “symbolic reason”, it must be recognized certain superioriy of Leibniz philosophy over gadamerian hermeneutics.

Experiences that inspire hope: Perspectives of suicidal patients.

Suffering in a suicidal crisis includes feelings such as despair, loneliness, anxiety, fear, shame, guilt and hopelessness. This study highlights the experiences of patients in the aftermath of suicide attempts. The research question was, what do suicidal patients see as meaningful help in care and treatment situations? The methodology is inspired by Gadamer's hermeneutics, where the parts are understood in light of the whole, and the whole is understood in light of the parts. Qualitative interviews were employed. Participants and research context: A total of 10 persons, 4 women and 6 men 21-52 years old, were informed and asked to participate by specialists in psychology at two emergency psychiatric wards and by one crisis resolution team. Nine of the participants had experienced one or more suicide attempts using drugs and alcohol. Forced hospitalization prevented one of the 10 participants from attempting suicide. Ethical considerations: Before the participants signed an informed consent form, the interviewer met all participants to provide the written information, talking about the interview. A meeting to terminate contact was arranged after the participants had read their own interviews. Three themes were generated by the methodology we applied: (1) experiencing hope through encounters, (2) experiencing hope through the atmosphere of wisdom and (3) experiencing a ray of hope from taking back responsibility. The findings are discussed in the light of Eriksson's suffering theory and Lindström's theory about psychiatric care, as well as earlier research and theories about suicidality. The study reinforces possibilities that hope in suicidal patients can be inspired in encounters with healthcare personnel and within caring cultures. Through dialogue and cooperation, patients' safety and ability to cope with suffering is created and thereby the hope and will to struggle for life.

IDENTIFICATION OF SELF POSITION AND BASIC ATTITUDE OF COUNSELORS BY SEMAR TEXT (Study Analysis OF Hermeneutik Gadamerian)

The purpose of this study are to know: (1) self-position of counselor which was adopted from the text of Semar, (2) The basic attitude which was adopting from the text of Semar, (3) The technic for communicating base attitude of counselor are using the metaphor in counseling. This research uses the Qualitative approach by Gadamerian hermeneutic method. Gadamerian hermeneutics is a kind of objective hermeneutic research (Objectivist hermeneutics). Gadamerian hermeneutics unifying thought is contained in a hermeneutic circle pattern. The circle consists of a pattern of up and down between the parts (part) and overall (whole) to understand the meaning of a text. The Data of research are including two texts such as what and who Semar is? (Mulyono, 1978) and Semar as spiritual world of Javanese (Sumukti, 2006), data of interview with Ki Manteb Sudarsono, Ki Purbo Asmoro, S.Kar., M.Hum and Dra. Sri Saptaningsih, MM and data watching the video of wayang. The result of research show that self-position of counselor which was adopted from the text of Semar are: (1) advicer, (2) motivator, (3) deterrent, (4) servant. The basic attitude which was adopting from the text of Semar are: (1) hospitable, (2) wise, (3) honest, (4) care. Forståelse av åndelighet og åndelig omsorg for gamle mennesker – en hermeneutisk studie

Understanding spirituality and spiritual care for older people – a hermeneutical studyIn old age, spirituality and existential issues may become salient. The study aim is an understanding of older peoples’ perception of spirituality and spiritual care in a Norwegian context. Gadamer hermeneutics is the guiding methodology. 30 interviews were conducted with 17 participants between 74-96 years, six self-reliant, five with homecare, and six nursing home residents. The findings present understanding of spirituality, soul and spirit, the meaningful in life, inner peace, care from family in old age, and spiritual care. The study discusses spirituality as a force that contributes to wholeness and health, especially by the experience of “inner calm and peace”. That which may contribute to inner peace is love for fellow human beings and being with others, religion and nature, together with meaningful activities and feeling “alive”. Spiritual care involves “to care about” the whole person through compassionate care, presence, listening, touch and facilitating socializing and activities.

Worldmaking and Domestic Tourists: Critical Insights from Philosophical Hermeneutics

This review article raises insights into domestic tourism that deserve earnest attention from conceptualists and practitioners in Tourism Studies/Tourism Management (hereafter Tourism Studies). In it, Jacobsen critiques the movement in Tourism Studies, which is described by Hollinshead as worldmaking and which is indicative of the shift toward critical inquiry into the sociopolitical nature of tourism and travel. Jacobsen considers that the notion of (and practice of) worldmaking highlights the globalized nature of tourism that must be considered in relation to the complex place-specific processes of production. However, Jacobsen critically argues in this review article that the range of sociopolitical agencies illuminated via a worldmaking approach is an overinternationalized one and is therefore stifled by a presupposition that can obscure the conceptualization of, and therefore inquiry into, domestic tourism. In this light, Jacobsen maintains that this undersuspected presupposition relates to the construction of existential tourist being as “a place relation” that commences from “rupture.” He attempts to remedy this constrained Tourism Studies thinking by drawing on Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics—in support of Caton's recent call (within this journal) for more informed reflections on Gadamerian interpretations of “tourism.” Following Gadamer's insistence on the extent to which historical influence conditions the present, Jacobsen assigns “historicity" to touristhood in a move embracing the view that tourist being commonly implicates relations to place that actually precede the act of or experience in tourism. In examining the advocations that worldmaking is a helpful working conceptualization that can potentially and incrementally envision/reenvision tourism as a facilitator for genuine dialogue between disparate peoples, Jacobsen seeks to recast received considerations about “tourist being,” ipso facto. Yet, Jacobsen's review article suggests that this potential for tourism to provide settings to contend with seemingly irreconcilable difference in the world is problematic, especially in regard to Heideggerian understandings about the inauthenticities of our time and the historically conditioned links between domestic tourists and place. Overall, this review article proposes that philosophical hermeneutics can indeed provide crucial insights that extend what he sees as Hollinshead's ideas beyond current thresholds of thinking about worldmaking to open up new even further and fresher awarenesses of and about emancipated being, or rather of “being through tourism.”

DIALÉTICA, EXPERIÊNCIA E INTUIÇÃO: ENTRE HERMENÊUTICA FILOSÓFICA E FILOSOFIA BUDISTA

RESUMO Hans-Georg Gadamer retomou e elevou a atividade hermenêutica ao status de filosofia. Uma das suas idiossincrasias consiste em entrelaçar, no seu discurso, experiências de ordem ética, política, metafísica e estética. A hermenêutica filosófica pauta-se pela prática do diálogo sobre questões relativas ao pensar e à conduta humana. O presente artigo tem por meta realizar um exercício dialógico entre o projeto filosófico de Gadamer e o pensamento oriental - mais especificamente, o budismo zen da tradição da escola de Kyoto, representada pelo pensamento de Nishida Kitarō. Nossa reflexão será articulada sobre quatro momentos distintos, mas que devem ser tomados dialeticamente: inicialmente, apresentaremos um quadro geral, indicando o estado da questão da hermenêutica gadameriana relativo ao pensamento oriental; a seguir, sustentaremos as semelhanças sobre o modo de proceder de ambas, sua metodologia dialética; posteriormente, aprofundaremos a noção fundamental de experiência e as proximidades que permeiam as perspectivas de ambas as tradições; enfim, como implicação das reflexões precedentes, sustentaremos a hipótese de um saber intuitivo enquanto experiência e ação intuitivas. Ao final, apontaremos algumas conclusões instauradas a partir desse exercício dialógico para a prática filosófica.
