The frost susceptibility criteria and laboratory frost heave tests of tte United Kingdom Transport and Road Research Laboratory (T.R.R.L.) and the United States Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (C.R.R.E.L.) were compared by testing four stabilized pulverized fuel ashes. The two tests led to very similar frost susceptibility classifications. The T.R.R.L. frost heave test was considered to be the more suitable test since it uses a simpler test procedure that also allows all specimens in a batch to be subjected to the specified test conditions.
