Formation of University Students’ Readiness for Parenthood

Forming students’ readiness for family life involves the formation of their readiness for responsible parenthood. The aim of the study was the theoretical basis and experimental testing of the training program to form the students’ readiness for parenthood. The article deals with the relevance of the problem, defining parenting in psychological, educational, social and philosophical literature, the study of the problem in Russia, research methodology and experimental study on the issue. During the research we have developed and tested a training program. The results of pedagogical experiment allow to come to the conclusion about the effectiveness of the developed program “I am a Future Parent”.

Study on Introduction of Leisure Sports into Physical Education in Universities

With implementation of the outline of the nationwide body-building plan and formulation of sports health curriculum in universities, university sports education has been gradually transited from the single function of strengthening students’ physical quality to the direction of diversification development of body-building, sports entertainment, social intercourse, lifelong sports and so on. Leisure sports have become a new tide in sports development in a global scope with its characteristics of sociality, lifelong and living and are the necessary direction of human social development and civilization progress. Formation of university students’ habit of “leisure sports” during the period of university learning is an important means to carry out lifelong sports and participation of university students in leisure sports plays an important role in cultivating university students’ consciousness of lifelong engagement in sports. Therefore, introduction of leisure sports into sports education in universities seems quite necessary.

Research Status and Development of University Students’ Political Socialization

This paper generalizes research of university students’ political socialization as four issues, namely, the issue of formation of university students’ “political self”, the issue of a variety of transmission media for political culture, the pattern of university students’ political socialization and the mechanism of university students’ political socialization. It also summarizes and analyzes studies on these four issues in the recent years with an expectation to provide reference for further research.

The Influence of Parental Marital Commitment on the Identity Formation of Japanese University Students

The objective in the present study was to investigate how parental commitment to marital life affects identity formation of university students. Tolerance for family differentiation was set as a mediating variable. Participants were 271 Japanese university students (mean age = 20.0) who completed a survey. The results of analyses indicated that parental marital commitment influenced identity formation both directly and indirectly through tolerance for family differentiation. In addition, the influence process differed to some degree depending on the gender of the student. The results suggest that it is necessary to consider identity development in adolescence in the context of quality of parental marital commitment.

In the present article, is shown a brief report of the so called pos-modern society, as it's main point the production of a concerning reflection about the importance of the academical teacher's role amid the new needs due to the effervescence and vertiginous changes in society. It's taken in consideration the urgency to reformulate the ways and styles of thinking, learning and teaching, so as to enlarge the perception of the new phenomena presented in our lives. So, the formation of university students becomes more complete and appropriate to act and deal amid the complexity of the contemporary society, with all its cultural diversity. The need to practice reflection is discussed as a way to raise the learning and combat the alienation that slays our society, through the search of an internal point of equilibrium. It is proposed yet, to work the understanding and the development of a greater didactic competence for the teachers, looking to increase the possibilities of using the advantages of a richer contact that can take place in higher education atmospheres, so much in function of the interpersonal relationships as for the wealthy cultural diversity.

“Sufficiently Edified”—The Use of Stories in the Spiritual Formation of College Students

ABSTRACTThis essay argues that undergraduate theological education at Christian colleges and universities ought to concern itself with the spiritual and moral formation of undergraduate students, and suggests ways that the use of edifying stories can be especially conducive to that end. The meaning of the term “edification” is unpacked by reference to its use in Christian scripture, and especially by reference to a delightful story told by Palladius about two Desert Fathers, Pachomius of Tabennisi and Macarius the Alexandrian. Then two crucial qualities of spiritually edifying story-telling are delineated: (1) the story chosen must invite students to engage in candid self-examination. (2) the teacher must embody the virtues that her story illustrates, but at the same time tell the story in a way that does not draw attention to herself. One who seeks to edify others must avoid all self-promotion, even while exemplifying one's lessons in one's conduct.

Sex differences in the identity formation of college students from divorced families

This study was desgined to examine gender differences in identity formation in late adolescents from divorced mother-custody families. Fifty-seven female and thirty-nine male college students ranging in age from 17 to 25 years completed the Child's Report of Parental Behavior [E. S. Schaeffer (1965) “Children's Reports of Parental Behavior: An Inventory,” Child Development, Vol. 36, pp. 412–482] and were interviewed using the J. E. Marcia [(1966) “Development and Validation of Ego Identity Status,” Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol. 3, pp. 551–558] semistructured Identity Status Interview. While no differences between males and females were found in ratings of overall identity status, significantly more females were in the achieved category within the domains of occupation and attitudes toward premarital sex. Also, males perceived their mothers as significantly more accepting and less controlling than did females. The absence of the father and the altered role of the mother appear to have a differential impact on males and females who have grown up in mother-custody families. Implications of these and other findings are discussed.

Effects of Parental Divorce During Early Childhood on Ego Development and Identity Formation of College Students

Level of ego development, locus of control, and identity achievement were assessed in 294 college students who came from intact, divorced, and divorced-remarriage family backgrounds. Contrary to popular assumptions. divorce backgrounds were not predictive of lower scores on the three measures. In fact, males from divorce families held higher ego-identity achievement scores than males from intact families or females from intact or divorce families. Further, no evidence was found for the argument that remarriage (step-parenting) may attenuate negative consequences of divorce on college students' development.
