Practical Research on Tao Xingzhi's Educational Thought of "Integration of Teaching and Doing" in Art Teaching — Taking Flower Carpet as an Example

Art activities include imitation and creation. Tao Xingzhi's thought of the unity of art teaching and practice provides theoretical guidance and practical significance for the imitation and creation of basic art education. In art activities, the opening of aesthetic mind and the practice of art technology are indispensable. It can be said that the edification of aesthetic mind is full of all aspects of life. Paying attention to the sublimation of aesthetic soul is very difficult for the late art education in China. Mr. Tao Xingzhi, a famous educator in China, has the idea of teaching doing in one, which is helpful and enlightening. At present, it has been widely used in many art classes in China. Compared with many novel foreign teaching ideas, our domestic idea of teaching doing in one seems to be more suitable for the local education situation. Abandon the old teaching ideas, pay more attention to let students gain more practical ability in the classroom, let students become the main body in the classroom, and teachers play a more guiding role in diversified embodiment and deeper excavation of theoretical knowledge. Teachers teach while doing and students learn by doing. This new teaching method is more in line with China's educational policy of paying attention to quality education. It is also conducive to cultivating students' creativity and protecting their personality development in thinking, so as to cultivate more excellent talents with all-round development.

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Sickness Presenteeism among Thai and Foreign Teachers Following the End of COVID-19 Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Sickness presenteeism (SP) refers to the phenomenon where employees attend work while sick, a decision that impacts both their physical and mental well-being and can lead to burnout. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of and factors influencing SP among Thai and foreign teachers following the end of the coronavirus disease 2019 public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). A sample of 400 individuals was analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression to obtain odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Post-PHEIC, a significant proportion of teachers (51.9%) perceived an increase in their workload, and 62.1% reported having taken health-related leave of absence. The prevalence of SP was high (35.0%). Factors significantly associated with SP (P<0.05) included being younger than 37 years (OR, 1.825; 95% CI, 1.108-3.006), facing monthly financial challenges (OR, 1.627; 95% CI, 1.028-2.575), doing school-related work on holidays (OR, 1.920; 95% CI, 1.180-3.122), and experiencing sleep disturbances owing to work-related stress (OR, 1.910; 95% CI, 1.203- 3.033). No discernible difference existed in SP rates between Thai and foreign teachers. As a course of action, we recommend the provision of appropriate financial planning resources for teachers. Policywise, school events and activities should be scheduled on working days to ensure that teachers maintain a work-life balance. Additionally, task allocation that caters to individual strengths and limitations can mitigate the effects of SP.

Research on Innovative Teaching Model for Hydraulic Building Courses in Local Colleges and Universities

In an innovation-driven era, reforming university innovation and entrepreneurship education is crucial. Analyzing the "Hydraulic Buildings" course and its teaching reforms, combined with foreign innovative talent training models, this paper explores a training program for water conservancy innovative talents. Through literature review and case analysis, we assess domestic and foreign teaching reform achievements and propose further reforms. By enhancing teaching reform, integrating innovation and entrepreneurship education, and fostering industry-university-research cooperation, we aim to improve students' comprehensive quality and innovation ability, supporting the national innovation-driven strategy with water conservancy talents.

Education and culture: cross-cultural analysis

The paper deals with the basic pedagogical categories of education, training, upbringing in cross-cultural aspect. The differences in the conceptual apparatus of domestic and foreign pedagogy in the definition of education, as well as in the allocation of upbringing and training as components of education are shown. Recently, the content of education is largely understood as a projection of the main components of culture. Culture is an umbrella term that includes all the material and non-material aspects of any human society. The understanding of «culture» is important for pedagogy in general, since it is the transfer of culture that is the purpose of education, which is recognized by the whole world pedagogy. Education is understood as a process of transfer – appropriation of culturally formalized samples of human activity and its results in the form of knowledge, ways of activity, attitudes, values. Education is the basis for the transfer and sometimes transformation of culture. Understanding this interaction is difficult because «education» and «culture» are difficult to define precisely, and also because the interaction goes in both directions: culture influences education, and education influences culture.

DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING COMPETENCIES OF STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF INDEPENDENT STUDY

In this article, the importance of organizing independent work in the process of education and upbringing of students. In order to prepare students for independent work, the effective results of using the "Coaching" method, which is widely used in foreign education, and the criteria for evaluating students' independent work in the credit-module system for studying the topics covered in the "History of Pedagogy" module will be highlighted.

Engineering History in Latin America: A Review of Spanish-Language Books.

This review essay examines five Spanish-language books published in Latin America on the emergence of engineering in the region. Focusing on a period from roughly 1850 to 1970, these works share themes of foreigners and foreign education, nation-state construction, and social conceptions of prestige. This research suggests that throughout Latin America foreign educators and models were prominent in early engineering programs and enterprises. However, many historians associate the growth of engineering, especially civil engineering, with increasing state consolidation and economic intervention. As social perceptions of the value of professional engineering changed, domestic engineers increasingly became important planners and mediators. Some engineers became state leaders. By contextualizing these works with other scholarship on the history of engineering, this review essay highlights new insights while suggesting the need for greater attention to gender, race, and labor; comparisons between developments in Latin America, Africa, and Asia; and more research on private-sector engineers.

Formation of future foreign language teachers’ research competence in the conditions of a university

Thе article presents an experimental analysis of the formation of research competence of future foreign language teachers. The article discusses the importance of research competence and its formation among students of a pedagogical profile. Acquisition of research competence is the main engine of modernization of modern education in the twenty-first century; therefore, higher education should be oriented towards the formation of vital competencies of future competitive professionals. The article mentioned the strategy “Kazakhstan – 2050”, where its goal is the development of competitive specialists with modern competencies, including research competence. This article reveals the components of research competence, which are a constituent in the formation of research competence of future foreign language teachers. The purpose of the research in this article is the development of future foreign teachers’ research competence in the conditions of a university. The article describes the phased formation of research competence using various pedagogical methods in the conditions of a university. Criteria for evaluating the formation of future foreign language teachers’ research competence in higher educational institutions were determined in the article.

Topical Issues of Methodology of Developing Mentor’s Communication Competence Through Teaching Foreign Languages

Introduction. The authors highlight the main problems of the formation and development of the communication training of mentors within the multicultural specifics of the regional education spaces. The paper proposes an analysis of some aspects for improving the methodology of forming the readiness of an experienced teacher to transfer his/her experience for productive interaction with their colleagues. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the model for the formation of communication competence of mentors for teaching foreign languages within the multicultural specifics of the regional education spaces. Materials and Methods. The methodology focuses on the framework of a lingua-didactic approach based on a historical approach, which assumes both the analysis of Scientific Scholarship, and pedagogical experience in terms of a search experiment on the formation of a mentor’s readiness for socially significant and culturally creative communication to develop optimal conditions for the implementation of mentoring within the regional communicative educational spaces. Results. The authors highlight the necessity and possibilities of mentoring in different spheres of professional activities, the significance of communicative competence and readiness of a mentor to share his/her experience with others, and to monitor the post-effects of professional knowledge and skills. The results of the survey will be of use for those who investigate the likely problem areas of current education. Discussion and Conclusion. The results obtained contribute to the development of a mentoring for different areas of professional activity, because it is communicative readiness that facilitates the process of communication, exchange of experience and control of professional activities between a mentor and his mentee. The materials of the article will be useful to heads of educational organizations, representatives (employees) of institutions for advanced training and additional education of teachers.

Selecting finance ministers: Key characteristics shaping government Debt in Africa

Analyzing data spanning 1980 to 2020 across 23 African nations, we investigate the influence of finance ministers' personal characteristics on debt-to-GDP ratios. Our study identifies specific traits that significantly impact their performance. Notably, we find that the tenure, gender, and education of African finance ministers all play crucial roles in determining public debt outcomes. Interestingly, longer tenures correlate with weaker abilities to influence government debt, while female finance ministers are associated with lower debt-to-GDP ratios compared to their male counterparts. These findings remain robust even after accounting for key determinants like institutional quality and personal characteristics of heads of state. Importantly, the results persist irrespective of finance ministers' foreign education or potential motivations related to personal gains or the revolving door hypothesis.

The purpose of the research is to reveal the didactic essence of formative assessment in the context of its conceptualization in the university pedagogical process. The article refers to the problem of improving the pedagogical process through the use of educational technologies of formative assessment. The study attempts to trace the evolution of the formation of the concept of formative assessment in Russian and foreign pedagogy, to identify its essence and content, to characterize formative assessment in the modern educational process of the university as a pedagogical phenomenon that contributes to improving the quality of learning. As a result, the researchers clarified the essence of the concept “formative assessment” and defined it on the basis of the conducted comprehensive analysis of the genesis of its conceptualization in global pedagogical science. The novelty of the proposed research lies in the presented characteristic of formative assessment in a modern pedagogical process of higher education institutions, revealing its essence through didactic functions and strategic principles. The paper concludes by highlighting the didactic potential of formative assessment, focusing on its essential characteristic as a regulator of educational activity, which provides the continuous development and adaptation of the pedagogical process to the individual abilities and learning needs of students in order to improve the quality of education. The practical advantage of the paper is that it proposes tactics and strategies for the implementation of formative assessment technologies in the university educational process.

ADAPTATION COMPONENT AS A CONSTITUENT OF FOREIGN STUDENTS SUCCESSFUL TRAINING IN MEDICAL UNIVERSITIES OF UKRAINE

Abstract. The article highlights the main tasks of higher medical education in Ukraine. It is noted that one of the global tasks of higher medical education development in Ukraine is the qualitative training of foreign students. The successful process of their education is a kind of indicator of high level of education in Ukraine, a confirmation of its international scientific, educational and cultural authority. It is indicated that attraction of foreign students to Ukrainian medical institutions of higher education performs not only economic functions, replenishing the country's budget at the expense of students studying on a contract form of education, but also stimulates cultural exchange between countries, affects the formation of future medical elite. Foreign students who remain in our country after graduating from Ukrainian higher education institutions have particular interest for the research. During their studies, they not only receive education, but also master the Ukrainian language, adapt to economic, cultural and other living conditions. Such graduates are very valuable for the future of our country. In connection with this, the question of adaptation of foreign students to living and studying in Ukraine is being brought up to date as the quality of education and professional socialization of foreigners depends on its success.&#x0D; The adaptation component plays an important role in studying process of foreign students. Students encounter adaptation difficulties from the first days of their studies. Foreigners find themselves in an unfamiliar cultural, linguistic, household and social environment, which they need to master, so the educational process is accompanied by adaptation to new living conditions. An important role in the process of foreign students’ adaptation in the universities of Ukraine has the organization of the educational process itself and the direct participation of the teacher in it. Declining Enrollment in Long-Term Engineering Programs: Stakeholders’ Perspectives

This study investigates the declining enrollment in long-term engineering programs under the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) in Nepal, a critical issue affecting the development of skilled human resources and socio-economic transformation. The study analyzes enrollment data over the past 4 to 5 years and assesses enrollment trends. It also incorporates insights from focus group discussions and interviews with various stakeholders, identifies underlying causes of low enrollment, and proposes actionable recommendations. The findings reveal a multifaceted decline influenced by contextual factors, such as socio-economic conditions, the allure of foreign education, and the diminishing value of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). At an institutional level, issues include haphazard extension of TVET institutions, weakened instructional quality and inadequate industry linkages. Personal perceptions also contribute that vocational education is often seen as a less prestigious alternative to general education. The study's comprehensive analysis culminates in recommendations as suggested by the research participants focused on curriculum revision, strengthening industry linkages and enhancing the overall perception and quality of TVET programs. These insights are crucial for policy formulation, educational reforms, and aligning TVET with industry needs and student aspirations in Nepal.

Political Leader’s Background Effect on Health Status in Africa: Do Foreign Education Matter?

It is increasingly recognised in the economic literature that political leader is a major actor in the development process of his country. As public resources become scarce against growing needs due to demographic pressure, leaders are faced with the trade-off between development policies. Hence the need to determine the factors motivating their public policy preferences. This paper focuses on the intrinsic motivations, including the leader’s background, in health policy outcomes. In a sample of 31 African countries over the period 1984-2015, for a total of 134 leaders, we show through fixed and random effect, OLS and GCM, Drisc/Kraay and GMM methods that high educated leaders preside over periods of increased life expectancy. However, their place of education, especially foreign western education, confronts them with numerous constraints, making the effect of their stay in the West on the health status of their native country negative. The study contributes to the emerging literature on political leaders theory by providing further evidence that the background of the incumbent political ruler is likely to shape his or her economic policy preferences and hence health outcome.

Universities of Barcelona – Problems and Efforts

It is necessary to know the state of the universities of Spain. In this paper the general objective was determine the situation of the universities of Barcelona: Problems and efforts. Methodology, in this research, 35 documents have been selected, carried out in the period 2018 – 2023; including: scientific articles, review articles and information from websites of recognized organizations. The keywords used in the searches were: Universities of Barcelona, problems and efforts. Results, the universities of Barcelona occupy the first places in the ranking of universities in Spain and Europe, with three standing out the most: University of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. Barcelona universities have a significant number of foreign students. Conclusions, the universities of Barcelona have important international recognition, numerous foreign teachers and students, a high level of job placement, specialized research centers, a large number of doctoral and master's programs, articles published in scientific journals, agreements with companies and international double degrees with universities, student exchange, development cooperation projects, participation in international networks, UNESCO chairs, adequate infrastructure and laboratories, cultural diversity, study scholarships, among others. Can high‐skilled immigrants transfer their human capital to the United States?

AbstractUsing the National Survey of College Graduates, this study examines the return to pre‐ and post‐migration human capital of high‐skilled immigrants in the United States to provide an empirical evaluation of their skill transferability. I find that, on average, high‐skilled immigrants exhibit no wage return to foreign work experience, yet they demonstrate a relatively substantial return to foreign education. Delving into the heterogeneity across gender, occupation, and entry visa categories reveals the subsequent insights: female immigrants transfer less foreign experience and education than males; STEM immigrants are more adept at transferring foreign work experience than their non‐STEM counterparts; temporary work visa holders exhibit a heightened ability to transfer work experience, while green card and dependent visa holders have limited transferability of foreign work experience. Lastly, English proficiency is positively associated with the transferability of work experience.

DISTINCTIVE NATIONAL FEATURES OF THE USE OF DIDACTIC MATERIAL IN FOREIGN TEACHING IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

Teaching in primary classes using foreign methods involves the possibility of using didactic material to more closely introduce students to their country, language, and culture. This technique, when carried out in accordance with national characteristics, increases the interest of students to study by having the specific interest, research, and educational factors inherent in their country. This article will talk about the national characteristics of the didactic material used in foreign teaching in elementary grades and how they can be applied.

Returnee directors and green innovation

This study examines the effect of returnee directors, defined as local directors who have studied or worked in foreign countries, on a firm’s green innovation. Utilising robust econometric modelling, we examine a large sample of A-share nonfinancial firms listed on the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges. Our findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between returnee directors and green innovation. Interestingly, this association remains consistent across both environmentally sensitive and non-sensitive industries. However, it becomes more pronounced when returnee directors are non-executive, function within state-owned enterprises, number more than one on the board, or operate in firms with poor internal and external corporate governance environments. Furthermore, we demonstrate that returnee directors, armed with foreign education or work experience, increase green innovation. The results withstand a series of robustness checks, including the Heckman two-step sample selection model and propensity score matching. Overall, the results suggest that returnee directors drive green innovation.

Integration and learning: a case study of the international higher physical education talent-cultivation model

IntroductionThis study delves into the multifaceted components of talent-training models within China’s physical education domain through Sino-foreign cooperative initiatives. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it systematically evaluates the innovative systems developed by pilot units and outlines their experiential insights.MethodsUsing a mixed-methods approach, this research extensively evaluates the situation of pilot units by collecting and analyzing data from closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires as well as interview responses. The study categorizes and analyzes the data to comprehensively understand cooperative talent-training models.ResultsThe findings are classified into three main themes: Learning, Integration, and Binary Evaluation and Practice Reform. Under the Learning theme, the study observed a selective integration of foreign educational paradigms into the local context, respecting the distinctiveness of Chinese education and aligning with national policies promoting unique educational systems. Additionally, the Integration theme underscores the necessity of meticulously assimilating introduced educational resources into China’s educational fabric, highlighting the need for adaptability when integrating foreign educational elements. Furthermore, the Binary Evaluation and Practice Reform theme reveal the establishment of a dualistic evaluation and reform system tailored to cooperative education specifics, outlining challenges associated with ideological and cultural disparities when integrating certain foreign education aspects into the Chinese context.DiscussionThis research provides insightful exploration into the complexities of collaborative talent-training models in Physical Education. It not only elucidates the assimilation of foreign paradigms but also highlights nuanced challenges and prospects for developing tailored educational systems within specific regional and national contexts.

‘Foreign education and companies are superior to local ones’: nativeness preferences are also found amid non-English teaching positions in China’s job market, but with different focus

ABSTRACT Native-speakerism denotes a prevailing belief within English language teaching (ELT) that native speakers are perfect linguistic exemplars and practitioners of a better pedagogical approach. Despite unrelenting efforts made to discontinue the biased employment behavior in ELT, other professions facing the same conundrum receive much less attention. This study, therefore, intends to fill this gap by applying document analysis to examine 249 online recruiting advertisements for non-English teaching positions in China and using thematic analysis to interpret interviews with employers. Findings indicate neither traces of discriminatory practices in terms of the language of job adverts nor favorable attitudes to native speaker status. Regarding English language certification, both international and domestic language certificates are accepted, although certificates developed by English-dominated countries are more persuasive concerning oral proficiency. Nevertheless, an unreasonable preference for overseas experiences that add nativeness to candidates’ professional and educational background is easily noticed. This economy-based prejudice of equating native background with working ability echos precious scholarship focusing on ELT. Thus, this study advocates that enhancing awareness across all sectors of society about this unfair recruiting ideology is not only paramount in the ELT field, but also needed in all walks of life.

Case Study of College English Listening Course by Foreign Teachers

More and more foreign teachers are employed in China to teach English since they have the natural advantage of native language. More often than not, the major courses taught by foreign teachers are English speaking and listening. A large number of facts and studies show that foreign teachers have the advantages of language and culture in oral English teaching, and have achieved some positive results. Whether in public or private education, foreign teachers are very popular with children and parents. There is no exception in our university, where some foreign teachers are employed to teach English listening and speaking for non-English majors and various courses for English majors. Through questionnaire and interview, this study investigates the satisfaction of foreign teachers’ listening class, and finds out the reasons why foreign teachers' listening class is popular. At the same time, classroom observation and discussion with teachers and students are conducted to explore the advantages and problems of foreign teachers’ instruction in English listening course, as well as the analysis of teaching effect, with the purpose of providing some reference for the instruction of college English listening course.
