Positive-Energy Dirac Particles and Dark Matter

The relativistic positive-energy wave equation proposed by P. Dirac in 1971 is an old but largely forgotten subject. The purpose of this note is to speculate that particles described by this equation (called here Dirac particles) are natural candidates for the dark matter. The reasoning is based on a fact that the internal structure of such particles simply prohibits their interaction with electromagnetic fields (at least with the minimal coupling) which is exactly what is required for dark matter. Dirac particles have quite unusual properties. In particular, they are transformed by an infinite-dimensional representation of the homogeneous Lorentz group, which clearly distinguishes them from all known elementary particles described by finite-dimensional representations and hints to a physics beyond the Standard Model. To clarify the topic, a brief review of the main features of the above-mentioned Dirac equation is given.

Finite dimensional Frobenius–Perron algebras

Motivated by the Frobenius–Perron (FP) theory of endofunctors of a [Formula: see text]-linear category, we introduce the notion of a FP algebra. This notion can be seen as a generalization of a fusion algebra, and is related to the PP theory of endofunctors of the categories of finite dimensional representations of Taft algebras. Our main result is to classify such algebras with small dimensions according to their FP dimension vectors. Moreover, we introduce the notion of a FP Hopf algebra which can be used to categorify a FP algebra via the Green ring of the Hopf algebra.

Koopman-Based MPC With Learned Dynamics: Hierarchical Neural Network Approach.

This article presents a data-driven control strategy for nonlinear dynamical systems, enabling the construction of a Koopman-based linear system associated with nonlinear dynamics. The primary idea is to apply the deep learning technique to the Koopman framework for globally linearizing nonlinear dynamics and impose a Koopman-based model predictive control (MPC) approach to stabilize the nonlinear dynamical systems. In this work, we first generalize the Koopman framework to nonlinear control systems, enabling comprehensive linear analysis and control methods to be effective for nonlinear systems. We next present a hierarchical neural network (HNN) approach to deal with the crucial challenge of the finite-dimensional Koopman representation approximation. In particular, a scale-invariant constrained network in the HNN includes four modules, in which a predictor module and a linear module can accurately approximate the finite Koopman eigenfunctions and Koopman operator, respectively, thus forming the lifted linear system. Then, we design the Koopman-based MPC scheme for controlling nonlinear systems with constraints by adopting the modified MPC with a saturation-like function on the lifted linear system. Importantly, the Koopman-based MPC enjoys higher computational efficiency compared to the classical linear MPC and nonlinear MPC methods. Finally, a physical experiment on an overhead crane system is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed data-driven control framework.

The R-matrix presentation for the rational form of a quantized enveloping algebra

Let Uq(g) denote the rational form of the quantized enveloping algebra associated to a complex simple Lie algebra g. Let λ be a nonzero dominant integral weight of g, and let V be the corresponding type 1 finite-dimensional irreducible representation of Uq(g). Starting from this data, the R-matrix formalism for quantum groups outputs a Hopf algebra URλ(g) defined in terms of a pair of generating matrices satisfying well-known quadratic matrix relations. In this paper, we prove that this Hopf algebra admits a Chevalley–Serre type presentation which can be recovered from that of Uq(g) by adding a single invertible quantum Cartan element. We simultaneously establish that URλ(g) can be realized as a Hopf subalgebra of the tensor product of the space of Laurent polynomials in a single variable with the quantized enveloping algebra associated to the lattice generated by the weights of V. The proofs of these results are based on a detailed analysis of the homogeneous components of the matrix equations and generating matrices defining URλ(g), with respect to a natural grading by the root lattice of g compatible with the weight space decomposition of End(V).

Twisted conjugacy in residually finite groups of finite Prüfer rank

Abstract Suppose 𝐺 is a residually finite group of finite upper rank admitting an automorphism 𝜑 with finite Reidemeister number R ⁢ ( φ ) R(\varphi) (the number of 𝜑-twisted conjugacy classes). We prove that such a 𝐺 is soluble-by-finite (in other words, any residually finite group of finite upper rank that is not soluble-by-finite has the R ∞ R_{\infty} property). This reduction is the first step in the proof of the second main theorem of the paper: suppose 𝐺 is a residually finite group of finite Prüfer rank and 𝜑 is its automorphism. Then R ⁢ ( φ ) R(\varphi) (if it is finite) is equal to the number of equivalence classes of finite-dimensional irreducible unitary representations of 𝐺, which are fixed points of the dual map φ ̂ : [ ρ ] ↦ [ ρ ∘ φ ] \hat{\varphi}\colon[\rho]\mapsto[\rho\circ\varphi] (i.e. we prove the TBFT𝑓, the finite version of the conjecture about the twisted Burnside–Frobenius theorem, for such groups).

Finite dimensional irreducible representations of Lie superalgebra D (2, 1; α)

This paper focuses on the finite dimensional irreducible representations of Lie superalgebra D(2, 1; α). We explicitly construct the finite dimensional representations of the superalgebra D(2, 1; α) by using the shift operator and differential operator representations. Unlike ordinary Lie algebra representation, there are typical and atypical representations for most superalgebras. Therefore, its typical and atypical representation conditions are also given. Our results are expected to be useful for the construction of primary fields of the corresponding current superalgebra of D(2, 1; α).

The finite dual coalgebra as a quantization of the maximal spectrum

In pursuit of a noncommutative spectrum functor, we argue that the Heyneman-Sweedler finite dual coalgebra can be viewed as a quantization of the maximal spectrum of a commutative affine algebra, integrating prior perspectives of Takeuchi, Batchelor, Kontsevich-Soibelman, and Le Bruyn. We introduce fully residually finite-dimensional algebras A as those with enough finite-dimensional representations to let A∘ act as an appropriate depiction of the noncommutative maximal spectrum of A; importantly, this class includes affine noetherian PI algebras. In the case of prime affine algebras that are module-finite over their center, we describe how the Azumaya locus is represented in the finite dual. This is used to describe the finite dual of quantum planes at roots of unity as an endeavor to visualize the noncommutative space on which these algebras act as functions. Finally, we discuss how a similar analysis can be carried out for other maximal orders over surfaces.

Growth Rates of the Number of Indecomposable Summands in Tensor Powers

In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the number of summands in tensor products of finite dimensional representations of affine (semi)group (super)schemes and related objects.

A symmetry algebra in double-scaled SYK

The double-scaled limit of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model takes the number of fermions and their interaction number to infinity in a coordinated way. In this limit, two entangled copies of the SYK model have a bulk description of sorts known as the “chord Hilbert space”. We analyze a symmetry algebra acting on this Hilbert space, generated by the two Hamiltonians together with a two-sided operator known as the chord number. This algebra is a deformation of the JT gravitational algebra, and it contains a subalgebra that is a deformation of the \mathfrak{sl}_2𝔰𝔩2 near-horizon symmetries. The subalgebra has finite-dimensional unitary representations corresponding to matter moving around in a discrete Einstein-Rosen bridge. In a semiclassical limit the discreteness disappears and the subalgebra simplifies to \mathfrak{sl}_2𝔰𝔩2, but with a non-standard action on the boundary time coordinate. One can make the action of \mathfrak{sl}_2𝔰𝔩2 algebra more standard at the cost of extending the boundary circle to include some “fake” portions. Such fake portions also accommodate certain subtle states that survive the semi-classical limit, despite oscillating on the scale of discreteness. We discuss applications of this algebra, including sub-maximal chaos, the traversable wormhole protocol, and a two-sided OPE.

On polynomial symmetry algebras underlying superintegrable systems in Darboux spaces

We review three different approaches to polynomial symmetry algebras underlying superintegrable systems in Darboux spaces. The first method consists of using deformed oscillator algebra to obtain finite-dimensional representations of quadratic algebras. This allow one to gain information on the spectrum of the superintegrable systems. The second method has similarities with the induced module construction approach in the context of Lie algebras and can be used to construct infinite dimensional representations of the symmetry algebras. Explicit construction of these representations is a non-trivial task due to the non-linearity of the polynomial algebras. This method allows the construction of states of the superintegrable systems beyond the reach of separation of variables. As a result, we are able to construct a large number of states in terms of Airy, Bessel and Whittaker functions which would be difficult to obtain in other ways. We also discuss the third approach which is based on the notion of commutants of subalgebras in the enveloping algebra of a Poisson algebra or a Lie algebra. This allows us to discover new superintegrable models in the Darboux spaces and to construct their integrals and symmetry algebras via polynomials in the enveloping algebras.

Projective joint spectra and characters of representations of [formula omitted

For a tuple of square complex-valued N×N matrices A1,…,An the determinant of their linear combination x1A1+⋯+xnAn, which is called a pencil, is a homogeneous polynomial of degree N in C[x1,...xn]. Zero-set of this polynomial is an algebraic set in the projective space CPn−1. This set is called the determinantal hypersurface or determinantal manifold of the tuple (A1,...,An). It was shown in [7] that determinantal hypersurfaces contain substantial information about representations of finite Coxeter groups. Namely, if G is a non-special Coxeter group of type A,B, or D, ρ1 and ρ2 are two linear representations of G, and the determinantal hypersurfaces of images of the Coxeter generators of G under ρ1 and ρ2 coincide as divisors in the projective space, the characters of ρ1 and ρ2 are equal, and, therefore, ρ1 and ρ2 are equivalent. In [30] this result was extended in the characters part to affine Coxeter groups of types B,C, and D. It was shown there that each such group contains a finite subset such that, if the determinantal hypersurfaces of the images of this set under two finite-dimensional representations coincide as divisors in the projective space, the characters of these representations are equal. Notably, the affine Coxeter groups of A type are not covered by this result, as their combinatorics is quite different. In this paper we explicitly construct a finite set in A˜n having the same property. We also show that every group which is a semidirect product of a finite group and a finitely generated abelian group contains a finite subset with the similar property: for every finite-dimensional representation of the group, the determinantal hypersurface of images of the set determines the representation character.

Jet schemes, quantum dilogarithm and Feigin-Stoyanovsky's principal subspaces

We analyze the structure of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's principal subspaces of affine Lie algebra from the jet algebra viewpoint. For type A level one principal subspaces, we show that their shifted multi-graded Hilbert series can be expressed either using the quantum dilogarithm or as certain generating functions “counting” finite-dimensional representations of A-type quivers. This notably results in novel fermionic character formulas for these principal subspaces. Moreover, our result implies that all level one principal subspaces of type A are “classically free” as vertex algebras.We also analyze infinite jet algebras associated to principal subspaces of affine vertex algebras L1(so5), L1(so8) and L1(g2). We derive a new character formula for the principal subspace of L1(so5), proving that it is classically free, and present evidence that the principal subspaces of L1(so8) and of L1(g2) are also classically free.

Matrix elements of SO(3) in sl3 representations as bispectral multivariate functions

We compute the matrix elements of SO(3) in any finite-dimensional irreducible representation of sl3. They are expressed in terms of a double sum of products of Krawtchouk and Racah polynomials which generalize the Griffiths–Krawtchouk polynomials. Their recurrence and difference relations are obtained as byproducts of our construction. The proof is based on the decomposition of a general three-dimensional rotation in terms of elementary planar rotations and a transition between two embeddings of sl2 in sl3. The former is related to monovariate Krawtchouk polynomials and the latter, to monovariate Racah polynomials. The appearance of Racah polynomials in this context is algebraically explained by showing that the two sl2 Casimir elements related to the two embeddings of sl2 in sl3 obey the Racah algebra relations. We also show that these two elements generate the centralizer in U(sl3) of the Cartan subalgebra and its complete algebraic description is given.

Untwisted Gaiotto equivalence

This is a successive paper of [5]. We prove an equivalence between the category of finite-dimensional representations of degenerate supergroup GL_(M|N) and the category of (GLM(O)⋉UM,N(F),χM,N)-equivariant D-modules on GrN. We also prove that we can realize the category of finite-dimensional representations of degenerate supergroup GL_(M|N) as a category of D-modules on the mirabolic subgroup MirL(F) with certain equivariant conditions for any L bigger than N and M.

Conditional Karhunen–Loève regression model with Basis Adaptation for high-dimensional problems: Uncertainty quantification and inverse modeling

We propose a methodology for improving the accuracy of surrogate models of the observable response of physical systems as a function of the systems’ spatially heterogeneous parameter fields, with applications to uncertainty quantification and parameter estimation in high-dimensional problems. Practitioners often formulate finite-dimensional representations of spatially heterogeneous parameter fields using truncated unconditional Karhunen–Loève expansions (KLEs) for a certain choice of unconditional covariance kernel and construct surrogate models of the observable response with respect to the KLE coefficients. When direct measurements of the parameter fields are available, we propose improving the accuracy of these surrogate models by representing the parameter fields via conditional Karhunen-Loève expansions (CKLEs). CKLEs are constructed by conditioning the covariance kernel of the unconditional expansion on the direct measurements of the parameter field via Gaussian process regression, and then truncating the corresponding KLE.We apply the proposed methodology to constructing surrogate models via the Basis Adaptation (BA) method of the stationary hydraulic head response, measured at spatially discrete observation locations, of a groundwater flow model of the Hanford Site, as a function of the 1000-dimensional representation of the model’s log-transmissivity field. We find that BA surrogate models of the hydraulic head based on CKLEs are more accurate than BA surrogate models based on unconditional expansions for forward uncertainty quantification tasks. Furthermore, we find that inverse estimates of the hydraulic transmissivity field computed using CKLE-based BA surrogate models are more accurate than those computed using unconditional BA surrogate models.

McKay correspondence, cohomological Hall algebras and categorification

Let π : Y → X \pi \colon Y\to X denote the canonical resolution of the two dimensional Kleinian singularity X X of type ADE. In the present paper, we establish isomorphisms between the cohomological and K-theoretical Hall algebras of ω \omega -semistable properly supported sheaves on Y Y with fixed slope μ \mu and ζ \zeta -semistable finite-dimensional representations of the preprojective algebra of affine type ADE of slope zero respectively, under some conditions on ζ \zeta depending on the polarization ω \omega and μ \mu . These isomorphisms are induced by the derived McKay correspondence. In addition, they are interpreted as decategorified versions of a monoidal equivalence between the corresponding categorified Hall algebras. In the type A case, we provide a finer description of the cohomological, K-theoretical and categorified Hall algebra of ω \omega -semistable properly supported sheaves on Y Y with fixed slope μ \mu : for example, in the cohomological case, the algebra can be given in terms of Yangians of finite type ADE Dynkin diagrams.

Noncommutative Poisson vertex algebras and Courant–Dorfman algebras

We introduce the notion of double Courant–Dorfman algebra and prove that it satisfies the so-called Kontsevich–Rosenberg principle, that is, a double Courant–Dorfman algebra induces Roytenberg's Courant–Dorfman algebras on the affine schemes parametrizing finite-dimensional representations of a noncommutative algebra. The main example is given by the direct sum of double derivations and noncommutative differential 1-forms, possibly twisted by a closed Karoubi–de Rham 3-form. To show that this basic example satisfies the required axioms, we first prove a variant of the Cartan identity [LX,LY]=L[X,Y] for double derivations and Van den Bergh's double Schouten–Nijenhuis bracket. This new identity, together with noncommutative versions of the other Cartan identities already proved by Crawley-Boevey–Etingof–Ginzburg and Van den Bergh, establishes the differential calculus on noncommutative differential forms and double derivations and should be of independent interest. Motivated by applications in the theory of noncommutative Hamiltonian PDEs, we also prove a one-to-one correspondence between double Courant–Dorfman algebras and double Poisson vertex algebras, introduced by De Sole–Kac–Valeri, that are freely generated in degrees 0 and 1.

On unimodular module categories

Let C be a finite tensor category and M an exact left C-module category. We call M unimodular if the finite multitensor category RexC(M) of right exact C-module endofunctors of M is unimodular. In this article, we provide various characterizations, properties, and examples of unimodular module categories. As our first application, we employ unimodular module categories to construct (commutative) Frobenius algebra objects in the Drinfeld center of any finite tensor category. When C is a pivotal category, and M is a unimodular, pivotal left C-module category, the Frobenius algebra objects are symmetric as well. Our second application is a classification of unimodular module categories over the category of finite dimensional representations of a finite dimensional Hopf algebra; this answers a question of Shimizu [40]. Using this, we provide an example of a finite tensor category whose categorical Morita equivalence class does not contain any unimodular tensor category.

Representations of free products of semisimple algebras via quivers

We use quiver representation theory and King's notion of stable representations to study the (finite dimensional) representations of free products of semi-simple associative K-algebras over an algebraically closed field K. We obtain numerical criteria giving necessary conditions for a module over such a free product to be simple and prove that these conditions are sufficient for modules in general position. We also prove that modules in general position are always semisimple, although non-semisimple modules always exist when the algebra is infinite dimensional. With essentially a single exception, all module categories are strictly wild; moreover these categories admit no bounds on the dimensions of simple modules. We use quiver moduli spaces to derive a closed formula for the number of parameters needed to describe all simple modules in a given dimension. As a special case, we apply our results to free products of finite groups, and recover the representation theory of the projective modular group PSL2(Z) (strictly wild) and of the infinite dihedral group (tame).

Algebraic approach and exact solutions of superintegrable systems in 2D Darboux spaces

Abstract Superintegrable systems in two-dimensional (2D) Darboux spaces were classified and it was found that there exist 12 distinct classes of superintegrable systems with quadratic integrals of motion (and quadratic symmetry algebras generated by the integrals) in the Darboux spaces. In this paper, we obtain exact solutions via purely algebraic means for the energies of all the 12 existing classes of superintegrable systems in four different 2D Darboux spaces. This is achieved by constructing the deformed oscillator realization and finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the underlying quadratic symmetry algebra generated by quadratic integrals respectively for each of the 12 superintegrable systems. We also introduce generic cubic and quintic algebras, generated respectively by linear and quadratic integrals and linear and cubic integrals, and obtain their Casimir operators and deformed oscillator realizations. As examples of applications, we present three classes of new superintegrable systems with cubic symmetry algebras in 2D Darboux spaces.
