Causes of Drug Use and Methods of Legal Treatment

Drug addiction or use dates back to ancient times, with its roots lying in the human use of certain plants containing substances that alter mental states, perception, and sensations for thousands of years. These substances were used either to experience pleasure, alleviate the pain of a particular patient, endure suffering, or forget a painful life and its burdens. Drugs play a significant role in encouraging individuals to commit various crimes due to their impact on the nervous and sensory systems. Furthermore, drug abuse has become one of the most pressing problems and challenges facing our society, posing severe threats to families and youth and warning of potential disintegration. Regardless of the form or type of drug, it remains one of the most dangerous social issues and plagues that harm our community due to its profoundly negative effects on individuals, families, and society at large.One of the causes behind the prevalence of drug use is the high unemployment rate and lack of job opportunities within Iraqi society, leading to idle individuals who, with excess free time, may turn to drug addiction. Additionally, poverty becomes a bias, with the influential factor being the creation of a strong and urgent desire that drives drug users to obtain substances by any means and gradually increase their dosage. Other significant causes of drug use or addiction include family environment, bad company, working conditions, general social influences, or the desire to escape from one's social or economic reality. In some cases, sudden wealth among certain families may also contribute to drug abuse. As a result, drug abuse has become a focal issue throughout Iraq due to its destructive impact on Iraqi society. It is a primary factor in numerous social, security, economic, and health problems, leading Iraqi society to invest considerable energy and financial resources in preventing its spread and mitigating its effects on individuals and the community. This has been addressed through various legal and other means. The significance of this study lies in understanding how drug users can reintegrate into society as normal individuals without suffering from physical or psychological disorders resulting from drug addiction. This can only be achieved through understanding and addressing treatment methods and attempts to eliminate the causes of drug use or addiction. Officials must exercise caution and consider this issue to ensure that drug users are free from drugs and their negative consequences

Local Cultural Approach in Navigating Family Conflict: Understanding Cultural Strategies for Human Well-Being

Objective: This study explores the complexities of family conflict within a local cultural framework, focusing on its impacts on physical and mental well-being through mapping its intensity, root causes, and long-term consequences. The study aims to understand how unresolved interpersonal tensions can negatively impact emotional and social health, ultimately affecting harmony and balance within local communities. The approach uses a theoretical framework that underscores the importance of culture-based communication, negotiation skills that respect local norms, and appreciation for diverse perspectives as steps to reduce conflict and promote mental health. This research contextualizes conflict within various local cultural settings, specifically within families influenced by communal and intergenerational values. Through in-depth analysis of the family as the unit of study, variables such as communication and social relationships are examined with an emphasis on unique socio-cultural dynamics. The findings highlight the negative impact of unresolved family conflict on emotional well-being and the stability of social relationships within the family unit. Conflict can disrupt interpersonal dynamics, creating long-term disharmony that undermines family cohesion. These adverse effects underscore the need for systematic, ongoing interventions to support mental health and collective well-being. This study emphasizes the importance of addressing family conflict as a critical component in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Good Health and Well-being. Interventions that adopt a local cultural approach—such as effective communication strategies and conflict resolution skills rooted in communal norms—are essential for fostering healthier and more harmonious family environments. By identifying three primary approaches—cultural rehabilitation processes, the development of communication that values local culture, and conflict management skills—the study provides practical insights aligned with global efforts to improve mental health and social well-being in accordance with the SDG framework.

SPECIFICITIES OF PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PARALYSIS IN A FAMILY-ORIENTED MODEL OF INTERVENTIONS

Families with a child with cerebral palsy (CP) face a number of medical, economic, legal, educational and psychological problems from the moment of birth. The main responsibility for the child's development lies with families, as it is there that key aspects of the child's personality are formed. There is a clear dependence of a child's psychological and physical health on the psychological climate of the family. Children with such disorders need to be provided with favorable conditions that will help compensate for the consequences of their disabilities. They need the support of qualified specialists and, most importantly, a warm and friendly attitude from their parents and the environment [1]. It should be emphasized that there are a number of factors that contribute to the psychological maladjustment of children with cerebral palsy in the family environment, which should be known to the child's relatives. First and foremost, it is the inadequate assessment of physical and mental development by parents, as well as the psychological atmosphere in the family. These factors cause deformation of the child's psyche and complicate his or her social adaptation, and negatively affect motor activity and treatment and rehabilitation processes. There are two sides to this situation: on the one hand, parents who find it difficult to understand the complexity of the situation and the child who needs special care, treatment and education. Physical rehabilitation requires the active participation of the person being rehabilitated, but with children, especially young children, this process is too complex for quality rehabilitation and requires the participation of parents. It is also important to take into account the role of the family in the development of motor skills, as it helps to integrate therapeutic techniques into the child's daily life. The aim of the study was to analyze the latest research and approaches to determine the peculiarities of cooperation between a physical therapist and families raising children with cerebral palsy. Using the Internet search databases and the bibliosemantic method, the peculiarities of applying a family-centered approach, motor training, principles of neuroplasticity and home exercise programs to improve the motor activity of children with cerebral palsy were determined. This article describes some peculiarities of physical therapist's work with patients suffering from cerebral palsy. The peculiarity is that these patients are children and when working with children, unlike adults where motivation comes first, intervention approaches in children are formed on the basis of pleasure. Accordingly, various specialists should be involved at all stages to ensure the normal functioning and development of the child. However, the role of parents in this process remains no less important, as they should be the main link that connects these processes for the well-being of the child. The review analyses research on motor training and home exercise programs. The family-centred approach to physical rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy emphasizes the role of the family as a key factor in achieving goals and improving the child's quality of life. Involving the family in physical therapy helps to integrate therapeutic techniques into the daily life of the child and his or her family. Conclusions. The family-centred approach is characterised by the active participation of the family in the rehabilitation process. This is important because the family plays a crucial role in supporting and motivating the child during treatment. This approach not only provides treatment, but also provides the family with the knowledge, skills and resources to continue to help the child in their daily lives. This approach aims not only to improve the child's functioning, but also to help the child become part of the wider family and social environment. This promotes greater integration and independence. Thus, the family-centred approach to physical rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy demonstrates the importance of family support and integration during treatment, contributing to the comprehensive improvement of both the physical and psychosocial condition of the child.

PROTECTING OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS BY THE PROSECUTOR THROUGH REPRESENTATIVE MEANS: SEARCH FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE STATE

The article highlights some peculiarities of the legislative regulation of the prosecutor’s protection of children’s rights by means of representative means through the prism of court practice on determining the State’s interest in this area. The purpose of the article is to highlight the peculiarities of legislative regulation of the prosecutor’s function of representing the State’s interests in court in the area of child protection and also to make proposals for improving the efficiency of the mechanism of protection of children’s rights by means of prosecutorial representation. The author notes the imperfection of the legislative regulation of the representative function of the prosecutor’s office, which narrows its human rights protection potential. It is proved that imperfect legislation and the lack of consistent and unambiguous judicial practice create difficulties in the prosecutor’s office’s function of representing the interests of the State in the field of child protection. The author formulates the author’s own concept of prosecutorial representation in the field of child protection, which is proposed to be understood as the activities carried out by specially authorized subjects - juvenile prosecutors - with a valueoriented social focus on the realisation of a child’s rights to life, healthcare, treatment, recreation, education, social security, comprehensive development and upbringing in a family environment, as well as on the protection of the State’s interests in this area as a strategic national priority. In order to increase the effectiveness of representative activities and the efficiency of protection and enforcement of children’s rights in this area, it is proposed to introduce appropriate legislative changes to the mechanism for calculating and making appropriate payments to orphans and children deprived of parental care.

Trends in Marijuana Use among Adolescents in the United States.

Marijuana is a widely used substance in the United States (US) and worldwide. We explored trends in self-reported marijuana use among US adolescents overall as well as by gender, race/ethnicity, and school grade. Biennial data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey from 2011 to 2021 included 88,183 adolescents in grades 9th through 12th. We used percentage change as a measure of effect and the chi-square test for significance. All analyses were conducted at the national level. The percentage of adolescents who reported current marijuana use dropped significantly from 23.1% in 2011 to 15.8% in 2021 (p < 0.05). The self-report of trying marijuana for the first time before age 13 also decreased significantly from 8.1% in 2011 to 4.9% in 2021 (p < 0.05). For current use, there were similar significant decreases by race/ethnicity, with Asian, Hispanic, and White adolescents experiencing the steepest declines. In 2021, the percentage of Black adolescents self-reporting marijuana use was significantly higher (20.5%) compared to White (14.8%), Hispanic (16.7%), and Asian (5.1%) adolescents. Although current marijuana use declined significantly for both girls and boys over time, in 2021 girls were more likely (17.8%) to currently use marijuana than boys (13.6%). In 2011, the opposite was true, with boys (25.9%) being more likely to use marijuana than girls (20.1%). In US adolescents in 2021, there were decreases in self-reports of marijuana use compared to 2011. Behavioral interventions within school and family environments may be critical in mitigating the risk of marijuana use.

FAMILY-ORIENTED PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

Family-centered physical therapy programs for children with autism involve the child, family members, and professionals working together. They aim to provide support, education, and resources that enable the family to understand and cope with the special needs associated with the rehabilitation of a child with autism. By involving the entire family in the therapy process, such programs help improve communication, enhance the quality of life for the entire family, help the child develop skills to participate in various activities with peers, strengthen family ties and provide a more holistic approach to child care. Aim. To substantiate the structure and program of family-oriented physical therapy for preschool children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Materials and methods. Analysis of literature sources, including clinical guidelines and recommendations, as well as scientific research on the rehabilitation of patients with autism spectrum disorders; systematic analysis and synthesis, methods of analogy, abstraction and generalization. The experience of rehabilitation and physical therapy of children with ASD, gained by the NGO Agape, which is engaged in the rehabilitation and habilitation of children with disabilities in Khmelnytskyi, was also taken into account. Results. A child's atypical development and disabilities affect the entire family. Caregivers and family members may develop feelings of vulnerability and guilt, or they may feel unable to care for their child. In addition, the patient-centered and biopsychosocial approach assumes that decisions about therapy are made by caregivers, as they are the best experts on their needs and abilities. There has also been a shift in emphasis from impairment of body structures and functions to the child's participation in family life and activities with the family, as well as from what the child cannot do to what the child can do. Supporting the child and family through this complex process of rehabilitation and physical therapy with this in mind, and recognizing the family's interests and values, is crucial and helps families feel stronger and more confident as they face daily challenges. Family-centered physical therapy takes all of these approaches into account. Family-centered physical therapy is a set of activities aimed at involving the family and the family environment in the child's physical therapy process to provide support, necessary skills and resources to both the patient and the family at each stage of therapy, ensuring the best possible results. All phases of physical therapy involve the child and family members in the evaluation, goal and objective setting, education, implementation of the planned intervention program, counseling and monitoring, and adjustment of the goal, objectives and physical therapy program. Conclusions. Family-centered service programs encourage therapists to move from focusing on an isolated impairment and the needs of the child alone to understanding disability within the social model of services and the context of the family and community. A family-centered physical therapy program for children with ASD involves close collaboration between physical therapists, the child, and parents and other family members. This ensures an individualized approach to therapy, increased effectiveness of the sessions, and improved quality of life for the child and the entire family. Active involvement of parents and providing them with the knowledge and skills to conduct sessions at home helps to achieve sustainable results in the child's development and strengthens family ties, increasing the overall level of satisfaction.

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;This article explores the relationship between educational environment and the level of juvenile delinquency. The four main characteristics of juvenile delinquency are young age, low education level, organized structure of criminal groups, and high proportion of sexual crimes committed by offenders. The main factors causing juvenile delinquency are unequal family and social environment, educational environment, and access to quality education. The analysis of statistical data indicates an increase in the number of arrests of minors, highlighting the need for action. This article proposes suggestions for improving the educational environment and cultivating young people, aimed at preventing abnormal behavior. One of the central aspects of this article is the interaction between families, schools, and law enforcement agencies to comprehensively carry out the prevention of juvenile delinquency. Discussed the role of parents, the importance of incorporating legal education into schools, and labor education practices that promote social adaptation and sense of responsibility among young people.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

The Impact of Social Media Use on Adolescent Social Anxiety and Coping Strategies

Today's adolescents are a generation born with the advent of the internet, and their lifestyle and thinking patterns are deeply influenced by the online environment. Unlike in the past, when adolescent growth mainly depended on living, learning, and social environments, media technology today is intricately linked to human development. With the widespread use of social media, while adolescents enjoy the convenience and fun it brings, they also face challenges related to social anxiety and other mental health issues. Therefore, this paper analyzes the impact of social media use on adolescent social interactions from different dimensions, including both positive and negative effects. It also explores the causes of adolescent social anxiety, which include individual psychological factors, the characteristics of social media itself, and the family and social environment. Accordingly, it suggests that targeted support should be provided to adolescents to help them develop good social media habits, effectively cope with social anxiety, and promote their overall healthy development.

Perbedaan Kematangan Emosi Siswa Berdasarkan Keutuhan Keluarga

This research was motivated by the fact that there were students SMA who were unable to control their emotions and channel them well, where students who, when emotional, immediately expressed their emotions without thinking about the consequences of these actions, apart from that, there were students who harbored feelings of anger so they experienced severe and excessive stress. This condition can trigger problems such as learning difficulties and deviant behavior. One of the influencing factors is the family environment. The objectives of this research are: (1) Describe the emotional maturity of students raised in intact families (2) Describe the emotional maturity of students raised in incomplete families (3) Describe the emotional maturity of students raised in intact families and non-intact families based on aspects ( 4) Test whether there is a significant difference between the emotional maturity of students raised by intact families and non-intact families. This research uses quantitative methods with a comparative study approach. The population in the study were students in class XII students 143 students, with the sample size being 112 students raised in intact families and 31 students raised in incomplete families, the sampling technique was total sampling technique. The instrument used in this research is an emotional maturity instrument with a Likert mode scale. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing with the help of SPSS 20. The findings of this research show that: (1) The emotional maturity of students based on intact families is in the medium category, most students are able to manage emotions well. (2) The emotional maturity of students based on incomplete families is in the medium category, most students are able to manage emotions well. (3) There is a significant difference between the emotional maturity of students from intact families and students from non-intact families. This means that family integrity can also influence emotional maturity, where the emotional maturity of students from intact families is better than from non-intact families. Based on the results of this research, counselors can provide assistance to students through information services, individual counseling services and group counseling services.

The mediating role of marital quality in parenting intervention: Effects on preschoolers' conduct problems and effortful control.

This study explores whether marital quality mediates the effects of a parenting intervention on preschoolers' conduct problems and effortful control. Using data from 209 children in a two-wave randomized controlled trial of the Hitkashrut program, participants were assigned to either a 14-session co-parent training group or a minimal intervention control group. Intent-to-treat analysis revealed that improvements in marital quality significantly mediated the intervention's impact on both conduct problems and effortful control. An alternative model, which hypothesized that changes in child behavior would lead to improvements in marital quality, was not supported, reinforcing the importance of targeting marital dynamics to achieve better child outcomes. These findings highlight the potential of marital-focused strategies within parenting interventions to foster healthier family environments and improve long-term developmental trajectories in children.

Exploration of barriers to treatment for patients with eating disorders in Chile

BackgroundEating disorders (EDs) are associated with high morbidity and mortality, affecting predominantly young people and women. A delay in starting treatment is associated with chronic and more severe clinical courses; however, evidence on barriers and facilitators of access to care in Latin America is scarce. We aimed to identify barriers and facilitators of ED treatment in Chile from the perspective of patients, relatives, and health professionals.MethodsQualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with patients, their relatives, and health professionals. Participants were recruited from two ED centers in Santiago, Chile (one public and one private). Analysis was mainly based on Grounded Theory, using MAXQDA software.Results40 interviews were conducted (n = 22 patients, 10 relatives, and 8 health professionals). The mean age of patients was 21.8 years, while the mean duration of untreated ED was 91.4 months (median 70 months). Five categories emerged with intersections between them: patient (P), family and social environment (FSE), health professionals (HP), healthcare system (HCS), and social and cultural context (SCC). Relevant barriers appeared within these categories and their intersections, highlighting a lack of professional knowledge or expertise, cultural ignorance or misinformation regarding EDs, and patient’s ego-syntonic behaviors. The main facilitators were patients’ and relatives’ psychoeducation, recognition of symptoms by family members, and parents taking the initiative to seek treatment.ConclusionsThis study provides information regarding access to treatment for patients living with EDs in Chile. A practical public health approach should consider the multi-causality of delay in treatment and promoting early interventions.Plain English SummaryEating disorders (EDs) may severely affect the daily functioning of people enduring them. A delay in starting treatment is associated with a disease that is more difficult to treat. To our knowledge, there are no published studies carried out in Latin America exploring factors influencing treatment initiation in EDs patients. This study aimed to identify facilitators of and barriers to treating patients with EDs in Chile. We interviewed patients (n = 22), their relatives (n = 10), and health professionals (n = 8) from a private and a public center in Santiago, Chile. Our analysis showed that the main barriers to starting treatment were the lack of professional knowledge in ED, the monetary cost of illness, and cultural misinformation. Facilitators were related to the role of the family in recognizing and addressing the disease while being educated in EDs by professionals. This study helps to provide data about treatment access in developing countries. While facilitators and barriers were similar to others reported in the literature, the untreated ED’s duration was longer. It is essential to address these barriers to provide access to treatment more efficiently and prevent severe and enduring forms of disease.

Positive psychological traits in the association between family functioning and problematic behavior among secondary vocational students: a parallel mediation model

ABSTRACT The present study explored the effect of family functioning on secondary vocational students’ problematic behavior, and the mediating roles of positive psychological traits (hope, gratitude and grit). A total of 3049 secondary vocational students (15.87 ± 1.00 years old) participated in the current research by completing measures of family functioning, problematic behavior, hope, gratitude and grit. The results indicated that family functioning was negatively correlated with problematic behavior. Secondary vocational students from families with better functioning exhibited less problematic behavior. Furthermore, structural equation analysis revealed that hope, gratitude and grit played parallel mediating roles in the association between family functioning and problematic behavior. Pairwise contrasts suggested grit exerted strongest indirect effect among the three mediators. The current research highlighted the role of positive psychological traits in the comprehension of how family environment affects behavioral development among adolescents from secondary vocational school.

Family function and adolescent altruistic behavior: the chain mediating role of extraversion personality and perceived social support.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between family function and altruistic behavior in adolescents, while also investigating the potential mediating roles of extraverted personality and perceived social support. Surveys were administered to high school students across various schools in Guangdong Province, utilizing the Family APGAR Questionnaire, Extraversion Personality Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale, and Altruistic Behavior Scale. A total of 972 valid questionnaires were collected for analysis. The findings revealed that family function did not directly predict altruistic behavior. However, extraverted personality and perceived social support were identified as mediators between family function and altruistic behavior. Furthermore, both extraverted personality and perceived social support acted as chain mediators in this relationship. These results emphasize the importance of considering family dynamics in understanding adolescent altruistic behavior and highlight the potential pathways through which family function influences altruistic tendencies. Promoting positive family environments and enhancing extraverted personality and perceived social support may facilitate the cultivation of altruistic behavior in adolescents.

Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on health and social professionals working with people with disabilities: A qualitative study.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, protection and isolation measures established by the Canadian and Quebec governments have directly affected the work of health and social professionals (HSPs). These measures have added pressure on HSPs, complexified their work and added tasks to their already busy workload. However, few studies have explored in depth the impacts of the pandemic on HSPs working with people with disabilities. The objective of this study was to qualitatively explore the experiences of HSPs working among people with disabilities in the province of Quebec, Canada, during the COVID-19 pandemic (January and February 2021), including the impact on their work, the relationships with their colleagues, and on their immediate social and familial environment. HSPs participated in a semi-structured interview. A mixed thematic analysis approach, combining inductive and deductive coding, was carried out using N'Vivo 12. Fifty-five HSPs participated in the interviews (mean [SD] age, 42 [9]). They mostly identified as women (91%). Three main themes representing the impacts of the pandemic were identified, including 1) Health and Well-being; 2) Family and social networks including the subthemes; 2.1) Fear of being a vector of contamination for their loved ones; 2.2) Work-family balance; 2.3) Social Network, and finally 3) Work, highlighting, including 3.1) Workload and adaptative strategies developed; 3.2) Relationship with colleagues; 3.3) Perceived support received at work, and 3.4) Services offered to patients. These findings highlight the importance of closely tracking and supporting the well-being of HSPs.

The Effect of 5Q Parental Education on Children's Emotion through Healing of Inner Child among Parents

The research aim of this study is to understand the relationship between parental emotional well-being and child outcome. This study delves into the profound impact of 5Q parental education on children's emotional well-being through the intricate process of healing the inner child among parents. The 5Q framework, encompassing Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), Adversity Quotient (AQ), Social Quotient (SQ), and the innovative "You Quotient" (UQ), serves as the cornerstone of this transformative educational program. By intertwining principles of personal growth, self-awareness, and effective communication, the 5Q approach aims to empower parents to navigate the complex landscape of parenthood with confidence and competence. Central to this study is the concept of the inner child, deeply rooted in psychological theory, which symbolizes unresolved emotions and experiences from childhood that continue to influence adult behaviours and familial dynamics. Through a qualitative research methodology, this study rigorously examines the experiences of a diverse sample of 100 participants engaged in a comprehensive 6-month 5Q parental education program. Results from the qualitative analysis revealed a profound impact of the 5Q parental education program on participants' emotional well-being and parenting practices. An overwhelming majority of 82 out of 100 participants reported significant enhancements in their emotional intelligence (EQ) following the healing of their inner child. This transformation was characterized by heightened self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, improved parenting skills and strategies, strengthened parent-child relationship that foster suitability relationship. This study underscores the transformative potential of 5Q parental education in fostering nurturing family environments conducive to holistic child development. The understanding of the relationship between parental emotional well-being and child outcome is emphasized. By addressing the emotional needs of parents and facilitating the healing of their inner child, this program not only empowers individuals but also lays the foundation for resilient, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent generations to come, laying the foundation for their optimal development.

Impacts of social media on adolescent mental health: a rapid systematic review

The increasing use of Instagram and other social media platforms has been bringing up concerns regarding its impacts on adolescents' mental health, particularly in relation to screen time, social interaction and what is viewed, which can negatively impact their emotional wellbeing. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impacts of using Instagram and other social media platforms in adolescents mental health. For this purpose, we performed a quick systematic revision of recent studies (2020-2023) using the descriptors: Adolescents AND Instagram AND Mental Health. After analysing 113 articles, the results show that excessive usage, need for social validation and comparisons with idealistic images contribute to developing depressive symptoms. The way adolescents interact with these platforms as well as social and emotional factors also play an important role. We find that the sensible use of these technologies together with comfortable school and family environments contribute to building a sense of belonging, emotional support and safety.

Balancing nutrition and budgets: Socio-ecological impacts on nutritional environments of families with low incomes

BackgroundResearch on childhood nutritional environments, which are predictive of a variety of child and family health and wellbeing outcomes, has primarily focused on parenting behaviors and the home food environment. However, broader social and community factors play an important role in shaping nutritional environments during early childhood. Food security is a key example that is closely linked to nutrition-related health disparities, which can arise from constrained financial resources and material deprivations. Understanding parent and caregiver lived experiences related to social and community components of family nutritional environments in the context of economic constraints could help to support multi-level nutritional practices that are optimal for healthy child development. MethodSemi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted using a narrative approach with parents (n = 21) of pre-school aged children living near or below the poverty line. Participants were recruited from social and community service sites pertinent to maternal and child health in Philadelphia where health disparities are highly concentrated. Analysis was conducted using MAX QDA analytic software following a systematic approach for thematic analysis in narrative research. ResultsThree themes describe the feeding and eating environments in the home and community context: 1) Food Procurement and Meal Planning; 2) Family Togetherness; 3) Creativity, Variety, and Flexibility. Creative decision making and food procurement strategies responsive to child preferences were balanced by shopping to save and visiting multiple stores for the best foods and savings. Logistical (e.g., transportation, childcare) and emotional supports facilitated food shopping habits and routines, while lack of trusted childcare, reliable transportation, and social support barriers challenged feeding and eating decisions. ConclusionStrategies for improving cost and time-efficiencies could help support health-promoting nutritional environments of families with food insecurity. Building social and community capacity and facilitating connections to practical supports that include trustworthy childcare and peer support may be particularly important for this population.

The Influence of Family Dynamics and Environment on Academic Performance and Understanding of Trigonometry

This article is the result of a research that was carried out to obtain the degree of Master's Degree in Education in the postgraduate program of the Faculty of Education of the Popular University of Cesar and monographic work of the degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and Mathematics and Physics of the same university. The main objective of this study was to analyze the influence of the family environment on the learning and academic performance of students in tenth grade trigonometry from a public educational institution in the city of Valledupar. Applying a mixed method, the research employed a simultaneous integrated design, where quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed at the same time. This approach allowed for a complete and nuanced understanding of the research questions, providing a holistic view by exploring family dynamics and environment and how these impact performance and understanding of trigonometry. As for the implications for educational practice, it is evident that there is a need to implement strategies that involve families in the teaching-learning process of trigonometry, since the data collected revealed a clear correlation between the level of parental participation in education and students' understanding of trigonometric concepts. In addition, the study found that a positive and supportive family environment contributed significantly to higher academic achievement in trigonometry.

A Systematic Review of Resilience in At-Risk Youth for Psychotic Disorders: An Analysis of Protective and Risk Factors from Recent Literature.

Psychotic disorders in youth pose significant challenges for mental health services, necessitating a detailed understanding of the interplay between risk factors and resilience. This systematic review aimed to assess how resilience factors might buffer the adverse effects of risk factors on the development of psychosis among youth, thereby informing targeted interventions. Studies were selected based on criteria including a focus on individuals aged up to 25 years old at risk for psychosis, the examination of both risk factors and resilience, and the use of validated instruments for measuring outcomes. Literature searches were conducted across several databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Data extraction emphasized odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) for risk factors, including familial, developmental, and socio-environmental influences. The review included and analyzed nine studies, encompassing a diverse sample of 140,972 participants. Significant findings indicate that highly supportive familial and community environments significantly reduce the risk of psychosis onset. For instance, children with strong family support and engagement in structured activities demonstrated a 40% lower incidence of developing psychotic symptoms [p < 0.05]. Furthermore, the presence of neurobehavioral deficits, such as impaired verbal memory and attention, emerged as significant predictors of psychosis, with these children exhibiting a threefold increase in risk compared to their peers [OR = 3.2, 95% CI: 2.1-4.8, p < 0.01]. Resilience factors play a critical role in mitigating the impact of psychosocial and neurobiological risks in the development of psychosis among youths. Interventions enhancing resilience could potentially alter the trajectory of psychosis development, emphasizing the need for early and targeted psychosocial interventions to support at-risk populations. This study underscores the importance of fostering resilience through both individual-focused and community-based strategies to prevent the onset of psychotic disorders in vulnerable young populations.

Parricide and homicide NGRI offenders: How do they differ?

The aim of the present study was to provide a forensic psychiatric characterization of perpetrators of parricide who were found not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI). We conducted a study involving 52 NGRI patients who had committed homicide or attempted homicide within the Department of Forensic Psychiatry in Thessaloniki, Greece, between January 2015 and 2020. Subjects were categorized into two groups: parricide (n = 21) and a control group (n = 31). Our findings revealed that in the parricide group, the majority of patients were unmarried males in their thirties, with a history of prior contact with mental health services and nonadherence to treatment. Additionally, they had a background of substance abuse and exhibited violent behavior before the index crime. A notable trend observed among parricide offenders was the tendency to seek hospitalization, possibly as a means of distancing themselves from stressful family environments, based on information obtained in the interviews conducted as a part of this research. All instances of parricide involved the use of sharp weapons, and the crimes were consistently committed in private settings. Symptomatology among parricide patients was assessed as moderate to severe, with a significant long-term risk observed following the crime. The primary differences identified between the two groups were the higher pre-crime voluntary admissions and the elevated estimated postcrime risk observed in the parricide group. Early intervention, comprehensive assessment of risk factors, family support, and assistance in resolving conflicts and reintegrating patients into society are emphasized as critical interventions that can potentially prevent future tragedies.
