The Impact of High-tech Product Export on the Regional Competitiveness of Science Technology and Maritime Transportation Innovation

Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.The export and maritime transportation of high-tech product, as a factor to evaluate CSTI (competitiveness of science technology and innovation), has always been regarded as a general indicator, and not been paid enough attention. The traditional approach usually collects related factors of CSTI as much as possible, and the weight difference of each factor is not significant or even considered equally. By the approach of Principal Component Analysis, this paper reduces the number of factors of CSTI, and discover that the export and transportation of high-tech products has significant influence on Regional CSTI. Finally, the paper evaluates the regional CSTI of China based on the indicators including high-tech product exports and transportation.

Competitiveness Evaluation and Characteristic Analysis of Regional Logistics and Economic Development

This article uses Baidu online map to obtain the search volume of each region's logistics, based on this, the development volume of regional logistics is formed, by comparing the development volume, regional GDP and the number of personnel in the logistics industry with the national total, the results show that the development rate among the three is basically kept at the same level, the regional logistics and economic coordination develop synchronously and have a positive mutual development trend. Secondly, the indicator system is constructed with two dimensions of logistics and economy, the entropy method is adapted to calculate the weight of each indicator, solve the score of logistics and economy in each region, which is used to draw the distribution map of regional logistics and economic dispersion points. Finally, the characteristics of regional logistics and economic development are analyzed by scatter plot. The results show that the eastern coastal areas have the prominent advantages of convenient import and export transportation conditions, high level of scientific and technological development, strong concentration of resources allocated by multi-industry cooperation, so the level of logistics and economic development is high. The central region has advantages in the development of characteristic industries and has different development opportunities, so the logistics and economic development are stable. The overall progress of the western region is not fast, the development of industrial transformation is slow and the ability to attract external investment is poor, so the comprehensive competitiveness is relatively weak.

An Estimation of Endogenous Formaldehyde Exposure due to Consumption of Indonesian Opah Fish (Lampris guttatus) in Three Major Export Destination Countries

The demand for Indonesian opah fish as an export product is increasing in the international market. Three countries (Malaysia, Mauritius, and Taiwan) recorded as the leading export destination of Indonesian opah fish. However, as the fish kept in a frozen state during export transportation, the endogenous formaldehyde may increase over time. This research presented the health risk assessment of population in the leading export destination countries that consumed opah fish from Indonesia. The study aimed to reveal the most potential export destination country that may accept an increasing volume of opah fish supply from Indonesia. The potency was determined from current export volume, the amount of endogenous formaldehyde content, and fish consumption at each country. The data were calculated with @Risk®7.0 software. The results showed opah fish consumed by Malaysian can be categorized as safe. Increasing the number of opah fish imported by Malaysian as much as six times, 12 times, 18 times, 27 and 36 times relatively does not cause health risks related to the presence of its endogenous formaldehyde. Moreover, opah fish consumed by Taiwanese is also safe, but with increasing the number of consumptions by more than 26 times is suspected to be potentially causing a health problem. However, opah fish consumed in Mauritius was categorized as unsafe and potentially caused health risks. Based on these results, Indonesia may consider to increase the opah fish export to Malaysia and Taiwan in the future.

INCREASING ATTRACTION OF UKRAINE AS A TRANSIT STATE THROUGH COOPERATION WITH TRACECA

In this article the results of researches on the ways to improve the transit potential of Ukrainian transport system are presented. The reasons of the state’s loss of significant transit volumes are revealed. The issues of developing the transport potential of our state and prospects for its integration into the world market of transport services are studied.The fact that the existing transport industry in Ukraine generally satisfies only the basic needs of the population and the economy for the traffic volume but not for its quality is justified. The current state of the transport industry does not fully meet all the requirements for the effective implementation of the European integration of Ukraine and the integration of its national transport system into the trans-European transport network. In the transport sector, it is reflected chiefly in reducing transit traffic through Ukraine, the number of ship entering its ports, the inability to provide high-quality transport services in export transportation. That, in turn, has a negative impact on the competitiveness and efficiency of the country’s economy.Therefore, today it is necessary to introduce new principles for forming and coordinating the state policy in the transport industry, creating the conditions to ensure the control over the quality of functioning of the relevant executive authorities.The possible ways to make Ukraine more attractive as a transit state through cooperation with TRACECA are scientifically proved. The successful solution of the set tasks will allow significantly to increase the volume of transit traffic flow through Ukrainian customs territory, to ensure the further development of transport infrastructure and to raise revenues for the state budget.

The determination of Turkish container ports performance with TOPSIS multiple criteria decision making method

Purpose- Ports have a leading role on affecting country and regional economy with the development of international trade. With the world trading volume increasing day by day the performance of ports and terminals, which provide export, import, transit, local or regional transportation services, must be examined regularly in order for their maximum capacity to be utilized. Furthermore, due to the high costs of infrastructure and superstructure investments of container ports, long term plans and strategies are required. This study aims to evaluate the performance of 20 container ports operating in Turkey by examining the performance criteria of container ports in the world. Methodology- For this reason, when calculating the maximum capacity utilization of the ports, the main principle is to examine the effective utilization of all the inputs using various methods. In this study, the performance of 20 container ports operating in Turkey, has been analysed with the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method, using non-financial data from 2015. Findings- As a result of the analysis, the values that show the overall performance of the ports were converted into a single score with the help of the TOPSIS method and port performances were evaluated by comparatively examining the results obtained. Mersin port, Ambarli Marport and Kumport derived first with the highest performance. Conclusion- Port performance measurement has an important requirement for maritime transport. The high performance of container ports improve the productivity of the production such as labour and capital.

Transportation Cost of Agricultural Exports from Gaza Strip: An Exploratory Study

Export transportation costs are one of the major obstructions facing the Palestinian economy. The process of moving agricultural goods from the exporter’s location in the Gaza Strip to the target market involves significant financial costs as well as costs associated with imperfect information, weak infrastructure, lengthy and uncertain delivery times. The experience of exporters in Gaza Strip proves that, Back-to-Back system at Kerem Shalom crossing point and other procedures imposed by the Israeli occupation has led to an increase in land transport, freight and logistic costs. Consequently, this has caused great losses to the agriculture sector and other economic sectors in the Gaza Strip.

The Influence of Technical Marketing Training toward International Trade Access at BP3ED Department of Commerce and Industry of South Sulasesi Province

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research are: 1. To analyze the influence of Simultaneous export procedure, Letter of Credit (L/C) andTransportation training toward international trade. 2. To analyze the influence of Partial export training toward international trade access. 3. To analyze the influence of partial L/C training toward international trade access. 4. To analyze the influence of partial Transportation training toward international trade access. This research done at BP3ED Department of commerce and industry of South Sulawesi Province. This research used accidental sampling method with 71 training participant data analyze in this research used validity, reability and multiple linear regression analyze test processed by using SPSS 31. The results of this research, as follow: 1. Export procedure, L/C and transportation training gave positive and significant influence toward international trade access. 2. Export procedure training give positive and significant influence toward influence toward international trade access. 3. L/C training give positive influence, however it did not give significant influence on international trade access. 4. Transportation training give positive influence, however it did not give significant influence on international trade access. Key words: export, L/C, transportation, international trade.

Measuring the security of energy exports demand in OPEC economies

One of the objectives of OPEC is the security of demand for the crude oil exports of its members. Achieving this objective is imperative with the projected decline in OECD countries' crude oil demand among other crude oil demand shocks. This paper focuses on determining the external crude oil demand security risks of OPEC member states. In assessing these risks, this study introduces two indexes. The first index, Risky Energy Exports Demand (REED), indicates the level of energy export demand security risks for OPEC members. It combines measures of export dependence, economic dependence, monopsony risk and transportation risk. The second index, Contribution to OPEC Risk Exposure (CORE), indicates the individual contribution of the OPEC members to OPEC's risk exposure. This study utilises the disaggregated index approach in measuring energy demand security risks for crude oil and natural gas and involves a country level analysis. With the disaggregated approach, the study shows that OPEC's energy export demand security risks differ across countries and energy types.

More and more medium and small enterprises do business across the world according to generalization of online shopping mall such as eBay and Amazon. But high export and import transportation cost make weak the price competitive power of medium and small enterprises products. Then this paper deals with the development of new business model which can reduce the transportation cost for global logistics through efficiently overcoming the constraints as length, size, and weight of product. We explain this model with application for company which export the automobile parts. We can expect the transportation cost reduction by 50%.

Tax competition with asymmetric market structures: The role of policy instruments*

We analyze the location choice of a multinational corporation (MNC) between two host countries with different market structures, i.e. the number of competing domestic firms in them. We consider the effects of import tariffs and lump-sum subsidies on the MNC's locational choice. Our findings include: (1) with lump-sum subsidy, the country with fewer firms always gets the MNC, (2) with tariffs, the country with more domestic firms gets the MNC when the export transportation cost is high and the domestic firms are sufficiently inefficient, while the country with fewer domestic firms wins the MNC when export transportation cost is low, and (3) the MNC location decision may crucially depend on which instrument is used to attract the MNC.

Private sector development implications of the export performance determinants of U.S. small–medium forest enterprises to Mexico, Europe, and Asia

This study analyzes variables associated with export venture performance of U.S. forest products to comparative markets in order to develop private sector development policy recommendations. Data from small and medium forest enterprises (SMFEs) that export hardwoods to Mexico, Europe, and Asia were investigated to determine characteristics that influence export performance to these markets. Internal and external factors including, export distribution methods, relationship with export distribution partners, management strategies, transportation, and export assistance were analyzed. Despite extensive research on the determinants of export performance, limited studies have applied this approach to the exportation of forest products. This study adds to this research by examining proper method selection, logistical considerations, and the relationship with distribution partners as they are linked to sales growth in comparative markets. A public policy implication from this research is that structural and agency transportation factors deserve more export assistance attention.

Why did the Tariff–Growth Correlation Change after 1950?

This article uses a new database to establish a key finding: high tariffs were associated with fast growth before World War II, while they have been associated with slow growth thereafter. The paper offers explanations for the sign switch by controlling for novel measures of the changing world economic environment. Rejecting alternative explanations based on changing export market growth or transportation cost declines, it shows how the modern negative correlation could be reversed in a world environment characterized by a moderately higher generalized tariff protection such as that which prevailed before 1914. We show that an increase in average tariff rates among trading partners by just one third might suffice to reverse any negative relationship between an average country's tariffs and its growth. An increase in own tariffs after 1950 hurt or at least didn't help growth, but it might have helped growth in a world where average trading partners' tariffs were moderately higher and retaliation was the best strategy. The world environment matters. Leader-country reaction to big world events matters.

A regional planning model and its application to South Eastern Australia

A mathematical regional planning model is developed primarily for Australian conditions but is sufficiently general for applications elsewhere. The model has an input-output framework with constraints on labour, production, investment, exports and imports, and consumption. The objective function of the model includes production, labour, intermediate demand, consumption, investment, export and import terms (all linear) plus transportation cost terms (quasi-quadratic). The objective and the constraints may be manipulated to reflect various community goals such as maximize exports minus imports, minimize or constrain unemployment, minimize investment, etc.
