Evaluasi Material Pembentuk Asam Tambang Pada Pengelolaan Lahan Revegetasi Di Area Bekas Penambangan Batubara

The purposes of the research were to find out: 1) The acid mine drainage contents, and their relationship with the growth of plants on the revegetation land; 2) the success level of revegetation of ex-mining land by estimating the parameters of plant growth, runoff water and animal population. The result indicated that the parameter of plant growth on the vegetation land increased according to the planting year and 60% growing comparison with Acacia mangiun species in Forest Plantation Industry the low growings influenced by the acid mine drainage contents result variance of PAF LC 1- PAF Category and the water quality still below by goverment requlation as PerGub Kalsel No.36 year 2008 for specification for mining waste water. Animal population have positife growing in the area by step depend on revegetation growing . There was relationship between plant growth, acid mine drainage and water quality, but in 2006 the plant growth was disturbed because it contained high acid mine drainage and water quality exceeding threshold.

PEMBERIAN KOMPOS PADA TANAH BEKAS TAMBANG DENGAN INDIKATOR TANAMAN SAWI (Brassica chinensis L)

ABSTRACT This research aimed to determine the effects of compost applications on ex-mining lands by using chinese cabbage as indicator. The experiments were conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture greenhouse and the soil and compost analysis were done at the Soil Chemistry and Fertility Laboratory for a duration of two months. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design method with 5 treatments repeated 3 times to get 15 experimental units. The analysis on ex-mining soil revealed that it contained only trace amounts of soil nutrients N, P, and K. The laboratory analysis on the compost sample resulted in a C/N ratio of 11.87 which suggested that the compost was mature and ready to be used. The Analysis of Variance on research data showed that compost applications did not affect plant height between treatments at each weekly observation, and similarly did not affect leaf quantity and fresh weight at harvest time. However, the research found that the compost applications tended to improve plant height, leaf quantity, and fresh weight of plants at harvest time. The minimal effect of compost applications between treatments suggested that the plants did not utilized the nutrients supplied by the compost in their early stages of development. Moreover, it was also suspected that the compost applications had not been sufficient in supplying the soil nutrients needed by the plants to ensure proper growth which ultimately affected the fresh weight of the plants at harvest time. Closure and post-closure of landfills in Malaysia: lessons learnt

The disposal of approximately 90% of more than 30,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated daily into 167 sanitary and non-sanitary landfills depict the importance of landfill in Malaysia. The objective of this paper is to explore issues pertaining to the closure and post-closure of landfills in Malaysia using four types of disposal facilities. The closure of a properly planned Air Hitam Sanitary Landfill (AHSL) saw the management of the closure and post-closure activities at the utmost efficiency. The landfill has become the blueprint of energy conversion technology with a capability of 2MW. Unfortunately, closure of non-sanitary disposal sites were not as successful as that in AHSL. Kundang landfill, a non-sanitary landfill was ordered to be closed immediately in 2007 since it continues to contaminate the surrounding area. Regardless of its non-active status, untreated leachate with 280 440.00 giday of COD pollutes the river which may affect the environmental quality of the area. Similar scenario was also observed at other sites, namely two reclaimed ex-mining land for commercial and residential area. One was operating as dumping area before its closure in 2000. It was developed and converted into residential and commercial area including terrace houses, high rise apartments, and commercial buildings. Improper planning of the closure resulted with contamination of arsenic (64.4 mg/kg) and mercury (11.5 mg/kg) to the surrounding soil. Another case study saw extensive reclamation of an ex-mining pond with MSW including domestic, industrial, and construction debris. The lack of appropriate planning of the conversion of the land-use resulted with contamination of surface water with hydrogen sulphide alarmed the residents. The area recorded presence of hydrogen sulphide gas which reached approximately 200 ppm. Thus, it can be concluded that proper closure and post-closure strategies are crucial for landfills and disposal sites. The need for proper policies and .Mines on post-closure and the uniformity of these regulations would ensure standardised landfill remediation with minimal environmental impacts.
