Head up display for more safety

In the Eurofighter Typhoon cockpit, pilots see a display projected onto the visor of their helmet. In a car, a head up display will be projected onto the windshield, but the motivation is the same: to simplify the workload on the driver/pilot of a complex vehicle.

Validation of the Eurofighter Typhoon structural health and usage monitoringsystem

The structural health monitoring (SHM) system being developed forthe Eurofighter Typhoon is resident on each aircraft and is integrated withinexisting aircraft and ground-based systems. The system will enable theoperators to accurately monitor fatigue life consumption, usage informationand significant structural events, thereby safeguarding the structuralintegrity of the aircraft. The information obtained can be used to planmaintenance actions effectively, and to manage the fleet fatigue lifeproactively (Hunt S R and Hebden I G, Eurofighter 2000 structural healthand usage monitoring: an integrated approach 2nd Joint NASA/FAA/DoD Conf.on Aging Aircraft (Williamsburg, VA, August 31-September 3 1998)).This paper gives an overview of the philosophy and techniques involved in thevalidation of the Eurofighter SHM system, together with some preliminaryresults.

Thrust vectoring for eurofighter - the first steps

Abstract Thrust vectoring has the potential to provide significant improvements in combat aircraft performance and stability. As Eurofighter Typhoon moves into production, ITP and MTU are pursuing a research and technology acquisition project to investigate the design of a thrust vectoring nozzle system suitable for future application to the EJ200 engine. This paper describes the current status and progress of this project.

The Eurojet EJ200

The Eurojet EJ200 has been designed to meet the stringet requirements of the Eurofighter Typhoon and provides an optimised solution to the mission requirements of an superiority/interceptor fighter air-craft utilising the most up to date mature technologies available. It is being developed by a consortium of four companies — FlatAvio, IYP, MTU and Rolls Royce.
