The Relationship between Islamic Education and Global Ethics in Building Humanistic Awareness in the Post Truth Era

In a post-truth era marked by disinformation and mistrust of facts, it is important to consider the role of Islamic education and global ethics in building a humanistic awareness. Both have the potential to be drivers in overcoming the growing crisis of confidence and social polarization. This research explores the relationship between Islamic education and global ethics in the context of strengthening humanistic awareness. Through analysis of literature and case studies, the study highlights the importance of integrating humanist values, such as tolerance, justice, and empathy, into the curriculum of Islamic education. Moreover, a critical and reflective approach to disinformation as well as an emphasis on cross-cultural and religious understanding in a global ethical context are also identified as key factors in promoting humanistic awareness. The results of this research offer new insights into how global Islamic education and ethics can work together to produce individuals who are more aware of human values in the face of the challenges of the post-truth era. In conclusion, close collaboration between Islamic education and global ethics can help build a strong foundation of humanistic consciousness for a more inclusive and harmonious society in the future.

Abusive, arrogant and exploitative? Linking despotic leadership and adaptive performance: the role of Islamic work ethics

PurposeThis study aims to theoretically discuss and empirically test the mediating mechanism of psychological distress and the moderating effects of Islamic work ethics (IWE) in the relationship between despotic leadership and adaptive performance.Design/methodology/approachA three-wave survey was used to gather the data from middle managers and their supervisors of construction firms in Pakistan. The final sample consisted of 304 respondents and data analysis was performed through SEM analysis.FindingsDespotic leadership enhances employees’ psychological distress which results in a negative impact on adaptive performance. In addition, IWE played a buffering role in mitigating the harmful impacts of despotic leadership on adaptive performance.Originality/valueThe study is among the pioneers that have investigated how despotic leadership impacts employees’ adaptive performance via the underlying mechanism of psychological distress through the conservation of resources and social exchange theory lens.

The role of ethics in the lives of students is very important. It equips them with the ability to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, thus enabling them to behave in a polite, courteous and responsible manner. Violations or deviant behaviour committed by prospective lecturers need to be observed, especially those related to professional ethics. Therefore, there is a need to conduct research on the application of professional ethics early in the lives of English Literature students who aspire to become lecturers. This research will use a literature review approach, involving a collection of books, academic articles and other relevant sources that explore the application of professional ethics in the lives of students. The data collected will be analysed descriptively. The findings of this study highlight the need for continuous effort in the application of professional ethics. Future teachers of English literature will develop the habit of implementing effective learning strategies by consistently practising the suggested efforts, which will prove beneficial when working with students in the future.

Invisible struggles: unveiling the mental health implications of job insecurity among migrant hospitality workers

ABSTRACT Migrant workers in India, who are often seen as the backbone of the nation, live in highly precarious conditions, experiencing heightened job insecurity. Nevertheless, they received little attention in scholarly investigations. This study utilises the latent deprivation theory to investigate the impact of quantitative and qualitative job insecurity experienced by interstate migrant hospitality workers in India and its impact on their mental health. The study also explores the potential mediating role of employee morale in this relationship. Additionally, it investigates whether the perception of employability, which refers to the likelihood of finding alternative employment, moderates the link between job insecurity dimensions and mental health. Data was collected from interstate migrant workers employed in tourist hotels in Delhi, India. Findings revealed that both dimensions of job insecurity have been negatively associated with the mental health of these workers, with employee morale serving as a partial mediator in the relationship. Employability is found to be a crucial moderator in alleviating the negative impact of quantitative job insecurity on mental health. In light of the findings, the study offers key interventions required at the policy and organisational levels to enhance well-being while utilising the unique skills and diverse perspectives of these migrant workers.

This study explores the intricate relationships between work facilities, employee engagement, work ethic, job satisfaction, and employee performance within CV Anugrah Tirta Persada Pangkalan Bun. The research seeks to determine the impact of these factors on job satisfaction and how job satisfaction mediates their influence on employee performance. Utilizing a saturation sampling method, the study encompasses all 39 employees of the company. Data was collected via a comprehensive questionnaire covering respondent characteristics, work facility scale, work engagement scale, work ethic scale, job satisfaction scale, and employee performance scale, analyzed using SMARTPLS. Key findings reveal that work facilities and employee engagement do not significantly affect job satisfaction, as evidenced by p-values of 0.449 and 0.410, respectively. Conversely, work ethic significantly enhances job satisfaction with a p-value of 0.000. Job satisfaction is confirmed as a substantial predictor of employee performance (p-value 0.000). While job satisfaction significantly moderates the influence of employee engagement on performance (p-value 0.010), it does not moderate the effects of work facilities or work ethic on performance. Additionally, work ethic directly influences employee performance (p-value 0.012), while work facilities do not show a significant direct impact (p-value 0.177). These insights suggest prioritizing work ethic and employee engagement over work facilities to enhance job satisfaction and performance. The findings contribute valuable perspectives to human resource management practices, emphasizing the need for organizations to foster strong work ethics and employee engagement to boost overall performance.

Mitigating Job Burnout in Jordanian Public Healthcare: The Interplay between Ethical Leadership, Organizational Climate, and Role Overload.

In today's dynamic organizational landscape, characterized by rapid technological advancements and evolving workplace dynamics, understanding the factors influencing employee well-being is paramount. This study investigates the interplay between ethical leadership, organizational climate, role overload, and job burnout in public healthcare organizations across northern Jordan. By focusing on ethical leadership, organizational climate, and role overload as determinants of job burnout, this research provides insights into strategies for enhancing employee well-being. Drawing on ethical leadership theory, social exchange theory, and the job demands-resources model, this study employs PLS-SEM to analyze data collected from 260 employees working in Jordanian government hospitals. The findings reveal negative associations between ethical leadership and job burnout, highlighting the importance of ethical leadership behaviors in mitigating employee burnout. Additionally, a positive organizational climate is associated with lower levels of burnout, underscoring the impact of the broader organizational context on employee well-being. The study also explores the mediating role of organizational climate and the moderating effect of role overload in the relationship between ethical leadership and job burnout, providing insights into the complex dynamics at play in healthcare organizations. These findings enrich our understanding of the factors influencing employee well-being in healthcare contexts and underscore the importance of fostering ethical leadership and supportive organizational climates to mitigate job burnout.

This This research attempts to diagnose the nature of the role that strategic monitoring contributes to the competitive superiority of the Iraqi insurance company, as strategic monitoring represents an important resource in the company and the main driver of other resources, so it is necessary to strengthen the special competencies of strategic monitoring to achieve competitive superiority that ensures the survival and continuity of the company in operation, as The research problem indicated that there is a clear lack of attention to the two research variables in the researched company, so the importance of the research emerges in the researcher’s attempt to provide solutions to address this problem, and to achieve the research objectives, so the researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach in its applied aspect, as the questionnaire was used in collecting data. Which was distributed to a sample of (70) employees of the surveyed company, which was adapted to suit the purposes of the current research, and after processing and interpreting the results of the data analysis that was carried out using a number of statistical tools found in the ready-made program (SPSS V.28), the validity of the main and subsidiary hypotheses that were confirmed was confirmed. Included in the research, which emphasized the importance of the moral role that strategic monitoring contributes to achieving competitive superiority, and therefore it is necessary to activate the dimensions of strategic monitoring and invest in them in the best possible way to achieve competitive superiority for the Iraqi insurance company in light of the highly competitive environment in which it operates.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, public relations in Higher Education (PT) is facing new changes. The public relations capability is to maintain relations with the media, internal and external communications other stakeholders. This is related to the PT's public relations capabilities in information management during COVID-19, which can provide clear and good information and maintain the reputation and image of the organization. This research aims to understand the Public Relations Capabilities in (PT) for information management during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research to used by Macnamara (2018) regarding Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Competencies, Competency, and Competence. This research uses qualitative methods and data collection using Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with 13 public relations employees from universities in Jakarta. PT's public relations capability in managing information to the internal and external via social media channels effectively regarding MBKM. Public relations officer can carry out a competency test which is useful for becoming a reliable and competent public relations officer and understanding the basics of the PR code of ethics. Public relations in (PT) capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic by having public relations competencies that have a role in professional performance ethics. Evaluation and monitoring have successfully navigated academic activities during the pandemic and ready to face the new normal. The role of public relations in (PT) is related to the Good Reputation of the organization and its stakeholders. Public relations in (PT) to attract the attention of the audience (lecturers and students) by creating interesting content about MBKM uploaded via social media and collaborating with other campus partners. Public relations in (PT) has implemented strich health protocols and established pandemic response task forces.

Role of intraorganizational social capital and perceived organizational support on expatriate job performance: empirical evidence

Purpose An expatriate is a person living outside their native country and is physically mobile across international borders for professional or personal reasons, whether for a short or long time, whether organizationally sponsored or not. In the competitive and globalized world, expatriation helps organizations to sustain international competition. Based on the social capital theory, performance theory and organizational support theory, this study aims to explore the impact of intraorganizational social capital (IOSC) and perceived organizational support (POS) on expatriate job performance (EJP) along with the intervening role of Islamic work ethics (IWE). Design/methodology/approach Data are collected from Expatriate employees working in UAE for at least three years among various knowledge-based industries. A total of 268 filled responses were received using the convenience sampling technique. Structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings The results indicate that POS and IOSC positively influence most EJP dimensions except demonstrating effect dimension and IWE acts as a partial mediator. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design, and the respondents are white color expatriates working in the knowledge-based industries across the United Arab Emirates. Various other business sectors, such as tourism, hospitality, manufacturing, oil and energy can be considered in the study context and longitudinal research designs can be adapted to generalize the findings. Research limitations/implications The study adopted a cross-sectional research design, and the respondents are white color expatriates working in the knowledge-based industries across the United Arab Emirates. The organization should consider both tangible and intangible costs that go into the recruitment, selection and onboarding of an expat. Originality/value Very few studies have explored the role of IWE with a second-order EJP construct with the respondents from the knowledge-based industries of the UAE.

The Role of Islamic Work Ethics in Moderating Influence Love of Money and Machiavellian Nature to Fraud Accounting in Management of Village Funds

The number of fraud cases in Indonesia has been increasing annually, and it has started to spread to the countryside. This turns into an irony as the hamlet continues to grow and evolve into a sophisticated community. The goal is to investigate how a love of money and other Machiavellian traits affect the tendency for fraud accounting when using village funds, as well as how the Islamic work ethic influences the interaction between the village apparatus and the community in Wonokerto District. The SEM-PLS technique is being used in this quantitative study. Primary data were employed, and 66 persons made up the sample size through the use of purposive sampling procedures in conjunction with the questionnaire method of data collecting. According to the findings, the inclination of accounting fraud was significantly influenced by both love of money and Machiavellian tendencies, and the Islamic work ethic was found to be ineffective in mitigating this effect.

Disney characters as moral role models: a discourse analysis of Coco and Encanto

Popular culture characters and narratives can influence people’s understanding of moral actions, and thus guide their behaviors accordingly. Films have proven to be strong anchors in people’s understanding of morality. We examine the perception of resilience as a moral characteristic in examining not just how people become resilient (thereby focusing on impact and action) but also to study “resilience” as a discourse and discussion in society as a moral message. We argue that popular culture narratives, particularly Disney films, help reinforce moral meanings of resilience. By conducting a discourse analysis of two films-Encanto and Coco and particularly focusing on resilience, we aim to contribute to a deepened understanding of Disney’s role in producing morality through diverse narratives and characters who serve as role models.

The impact of business ethics on ESG engagement and the effect on corporate financial performance: evidence from family firms

PurposeThe increasing relevance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) engagement has attracted interest in its drivers and effects on business outcomes under different organizational settings. By focusing on family firms (FFs), we deepen both the role of business ethics as a predictor of enhanced ESG engagement and the link with improved corporate financial performance (CFP). In this way, we aim to provide new insights into the impact of business ethics and ESG engagement on FFs competitiveness.Design/methodology/approachBased on a worldwide panel of 335 FFs covering the 2002–2020 time horizon, this study adopts a two-stage Heckman model (1979) to empirically address two research questions: (RQ1) Do business ethics predict greater ESG engagement in FFs? (RQ2) Does ESG engagement positively affect the corporate financial performance (CFP) of FFs?FindingsThe results of the current study are twofold. First, we demonstrate that an ethical approach to business drives greater ESG engagement. Second, we show that higher levels of ESG engagement lead to improved financial performance in FFs.Originality/valueOur study contributes to filling the knowledge gaps regarding the drivers and effects of ESG engagement in FFs. On the one hand, we demonstrate the positive connection between dimensions that have their own identity, such as business ethics and ESG constructs. On the other hand, by shedding light on the impact of ESG engagement on improved CFP, we contribute to solving the trade-off between economic and noneconomic FF goals.

The Role of Professional Ethics, Independence, and Work Experience in Auditor Performance

The objective of this study is to examine the impact of professional ethics, independence, and work experience on the performance of auditors at Regional Office 2 of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk in West Sumatra, Riau, and Riau Islands. This research is quantitative research with the intention to test models that reveal the relationship between research constructs, namely professional ethics, independence, work experience, and auditor performance. Interviews and questionnaires distributed to bank auditors using complete sampling approaches were utilized to gather data for this study. The employed analytical technique is multiple linear regression. Those findings demonstrated that (1) There is a relationship between professional ethics and auditor performance that is both good and significant; (2) Independence has a positive and significant influence on auditor performance; (3) A favorable and considerable influence on auditor performance is exerted by the auditor's previous work experience; and (4) Professional ethics, independence, and work experience together have a significant influence on auditor performance. In this era of globalization, franchise expansion has become one of the main strategies for the growth of the retail industry. However, in a business context governed by Islamic principles, the concept of business ethics becomes increasingly relevant. This article explores the role of Islamic Business Ethics in the context of franchise expansion in the retail industry, with a focus on economic cycles and sharia business practices. Through a literature review, this article describes how Islamic business ethical values can direct franchise expansion steps, manage risks in fluctuating economic cycles, and implement sharia business practices that are in accordance with Islamic principles. This research discusses the implications of Islamic business ethics in strengthening the foundations of sustainability and long-term success for the retail industry which focuses on the principles of justice, social responsibility and economic balance. The research results show that the application of Islamic business ethics in franchise expansion in the retail industry can improve business performance, strengthen consumer trust, and promote business sustainability. This research highlights the importance of understanding and applying the principles of Islamic business ethics in the context of modern business, especially in the retail industry.

Will the design of the human–product relationship follow user experience?

Abstract Today, user experience (UX) is an essential aspect of the design of digital, interactive products. Thirty years ago, however, things looked different. The focus was not on the experience but on the metaphor of the tool or medium. But how will the design of digital, interactive products develop over the next 30 years? How will the design of products and services change, and how will this influence the UX profession? One possibility is highlighted in particular: focussing on the relationship between the user and the product with elements such as emotional connections. Through relationships, the roles of artificial intelligence, humanity and ethics in the design process and the importance of sustainability and adaptation to changing working and learning environments become particularly relevant. In the future, designers must assume even greater responsibility for users, society and the environment.

“It Was Really Sick:” Managing Moral Evaluations during Personality Disorder Interviews

Moral aspects are closely related to psychiatric assessment. Personality disorders, especially, form a morally loaded category, as the diagnostic process involves questioning behaviors that go against social norms. Consequently, being interviewed about these matters may be face‐threatening for the patients. However, the study of the role of morality in psychiatric face‐to‐face interactions has been scarce. This paper explores how the patients and nurses orient themselves to moral matters during personality disorder interviews in two Finnish psychiatric outpatient clinics. This article uses Erving Goffman's frame theory to differentiate how different orientations come into play during the interviews. Conversation analysis forms the methodological basis for the work. In personality disorder interviews, it is possible to observe information‐gathering, moral, and everyday interaction frames. The nurses have different approaches in receiving the patients' moral considerations. They may maintain a rather neutral approach, but there are also cases of both challenging tones and more supportive and affiliating responses. Making visible how moral themes are discussed in real life enables a nuanced evaluation of psychiatric practices.
