This study attempts to assess conformity diploma attitude entrepreneurs on the establishment of the alumni fashion entrepreneurship of engineering faculty state university the ( TB FT UNP ) .This research use the model input assessment , processing and products (Cipp) by stufflebeam et al .1971 .The population in research is alumni diploma TB FT UNP about 218 people. All made the sample population. An analysis of data using descriptive statistics .error research instruments measured by the correlation items and referral experts , while index standard deviation value cronbach alpha that reflects the between 0.70 to 0.97 . May be trustworthy item is high and acceptable .The results of the curriculum , not appropriate to form attitude entrepreneurship score of min 3.33 and standard deviation 0.92 but based on the establishment of the thought entrepreneurship min 3.91 and standard deviation 0.91 . How do fashion designers emerge? An empirical investigation of their entrepreneurial processes

ABSTRACTThis paper explores the entrepreneurial processes of emerging fashion designers. Four entrepreneurial process models are explored in this paper specifically for their applicability in determining how entrepreneurial fashion designers launch a business that is highly dependent on creative ability. Emerging fashion designers are a unique group who must exhibit both creativity and business acumen. Limited studies have focused on the entrepreneurial processes of fashion designers. Thus, the purpose of this study is to address this gap by exploring the ways in which emerging designers launch fashion design businesses including how personal, environmental and sociological factors may influence their entrepreneurial experience. To achieve the research purpose, a qualitative research design was employed utilising in-depth interviews as the primary data collection method. The study will contribute to the literature on fashion designers’ entrepreneurial processes as well as support for policies and funding initiatives of start-up fashion companies.

Ahola (aloha backwards): Social practice fashion Honolulu style

Abstract To non-residents, Hawaii embodies the archetypical tourist destination – erupting volcanoes, magnificent beaches, surfing lifestyle and hula dancers; a year-around place of adventure, romance and relaxation; and the perfect setting for advertisements and movie fantasies. However, the realities of contemporary life in Hawaii are quite different from those idyllic visions. The site-specific public fashion project Ahola (Aloha Backwards) mined these dichotomies by integrating fashion design, public art and collaborative teaching methodologies to engage the local community. In so doing, Ahola adapted a Social Practice Fashion framework to the cultural context of Hawaii while providing informal, community-centred professional training for aspiring local fashion entrepreneurs. Through its use of Collaborative Learning methods, this participatory fashion project expanded teaching beyond traditional academic settings, while simultaneously empowering Honolulu residents by allowing their direct input at every stage of the project. This article analyses how Ahola took advantage of standard methodologies from the fashion industry as tools for social activism and integrated them with collaborative teaching to enable informal learning opportunities. In addition to discussing the implications of the project’s methodology, as a viable approach for socially conscious fashion design practitioners. The article also examines the pedagogic significance of Collaborative Learning for both traditional high learning institutions and community-centred educational initiatives.

Opportunities for slow fashion retail in temporary stores

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to further theorize the concept of the “sustainable temporary store” and explore benefits and challenges for slow fashion retailers using temporary stores to promote a new value proposition and develop a business model.Design/methodology/approachThe theoretical part combines the findings from marketing and human geography literature to theorize pop-up retailing from the slow fashion SME perspective. The empirical part uses a critical case study and a qualitative method approach (primary sources, half standardized interviews, ethnographic observation).FindingsThe study provides theoretical insights into five success criteria for the “sustainable temporary store” across geographies. Empirical findings allow for further conclusions about challenges in regards to spatial requirements and business modeling for slow fashion retail entrepreneurs in the Netherlands.Research limitations/implicationsLimitations of the study are the geographical scope of exiting literature on the global north and the restricted sample size. However, by selecting a critical case, careful geographically restricted generalizations can be made.Practical implicationsThe study provides useful information for slow fashion entrepreneurs who want to use cheap temporary space to develop their retail business model.Social implicationsThe results show that there is placemaking value (social value creation) in temporary slow fashion retailing.Originality/valueThe study provides a relevant contribution to the theory of pop-up retailing and more precisely to the concept of the “sustainable temporary store.” It also delivers a replicable empirical research design for other geographies.

Entrepreneurial Intention: An Exploratory Study of Fashion Students

Consumers’ new shopping patterns and emerging technologies have created various opportunities, as well as challenges for fashion entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship education plays a vital role in cultivating entrepreneurship and innovation, and can help to shape a person’s entrepreneurial disposition, skills, and competence (Kuratko, 2005), all of which are essential for realization of entrepreneurship in enterprises (Unger et al., 2011). Due to limited research on entrepreneurial intentions of fashion students, it is crucial to discover what factors are relatively more important for cultivating entrepreneurial intentions among fashion students. This study used in-depth interviews with open-ended questions from September 2016 to December 2016 to uncover valuable themes regarding this topic. Findings of this study indicate that both internal and external factors contribute to fashion students’ entrepreneurial intentions. The findings provide valuable insights for policy makers and fashion educators to promote entrepreneurship education and provide better support for fashion students to pursue entrepreneurial success.

The Indonesian fashion industry has recently grown rapidly and has become one of the main contributors to the country's economy in terms of added values, employments, and a growing number of enterprises. In addition, Indonesian fashion products are known to have good quality in the international market. International market's demand for Indonesian fashion products is progressively increasing. Unfortunately, nowadays, there are many fashion entrepreneurs especially SMEs in Indonesia who still do not know how to enter the international market. Meanwhile, it is a good opportunity for the SMEs to develop. By using the quadruple-helix approach, this research aims at generating strategies for an entrance mode of the fashion industry to be observed by the international market. This study proposes insights from Indonesian fashion entrepreneurs who have successfully penetrated the international market. The insights include the motivation and possible types of entrance mode, barrier, and supporting factors and potential programs that may help other SMEs in the Indonesian fashion industry to enter the international market.

Politicizing the site of fashion: Conversations with designing women in Dhaka

Abstract Fashion and consumption are culturally coded ways through which systems of class reinscribe and reproduce legitimacy by articulating, regulating and monitoring hierarchies of culture, class and consumption. Fashion and clothing are not only about presentation, they are also the means by which identities and power relations are produced and contested in local-translocal-global spaces. In this article based on ethnographic research, I discuss how fashion entrepreneurs in Dhaka, Bangladesh, are engaged in (re)articulating social and class relations through fashion. They do this by claiming a local and authentic fashion against a hybridized transnational trend. At the same time, dominant modes of fashion are challenged and reappropriated, giving way to negotiations in power dynamics. In this site of cultural production fashion is a fluid system where agency and subjectivity are actively negotiated.

Which Intelligence is Most Important in Forming the Entrepreneurial Spirit?

The role of entrepreneurs becomes more influential in the current business world. Due to lack of entrepreneurial spirit, many entrepreneurs experience unsuccessful result in their entrepreneurship journey. Entrepreneurial spirit results from a combination of someone’s hereditary factors, experience, and environment. This gives HRM wide room of discussion to find suitable stimulating factors to improve entrepreneurial spirit. Growing evidence shows various intelligence can contribute to someone’s entrepreneurial spirit including intellectual quotient, emotional quotient, spiritual quotient, social quotient, and adversity quotient. This research aims to examine which of each quotient has the most influential factor to the entrepreneurial spirit. This study was conducted using 30 small-and-medium-scale fashion entrepreneurs in Bandung and analyzed using weighting approach and ranking method. Based on the findings, this research suggests that SQ (Spiritual Quotient), followed by adversary quotient, has the strongest influence in shaping the entrepreneurial spirit.

An “Orphan” Creative Industry: Exploring the Institutional Factors Constraining the Canadian Fashion Industry

AbstractIn recent years, tier‐two fashion countries have been making gains in the global fashion industry, with hip young brands, buzz‐worthy fashion weeks and export‐oriented designers. The Canadian fashion industry, on the other hand, continues to fall behind and instead has experienced recent high‐profile closures of leading domestic fashion names. This paper explores why this is the case by considering a wide range of factors from a historical and institutional perspective. We argue that Canadian fashion is facing a number of systemic problems relating to wider institutional and policy weaknesses, rather than a lack of talent and know‐how within the entrepreneurs and businesses in the sector. While the fashion industry is indeed global, we argue that it is in fact national and local level factors—political, economic, and cultural—that structure and constrain the Canadian fashion industry for independent designers. Through exploring the experiences of this group of actors—entrepreneurial fashion designers—in this particular context, we not only learn about Canada as an economy but also what is needed in order to develop the fashion industry more broadly. We provide a framework for analysing the range of socio‐economic, historical, and political factors at the national level which affect the performance of the fashion sector and the operation of fashion designers as the entrepreneurial actors at the heart of the industry.

Fashioning the Future: Entrepreneuring in Africa’s Emerging Fashion Industry

A vibrant fashion scene is emerging in Africa, spearheaded by a new generation of young fashion entrepreneurs. Drawing on a multi-sited study of Ghanaian, Ugandan and Zambian female designers, this article examines the emerging fashion industry as a site for entrepreneuring where people’s aspirations to bring about personal, cultural and socio-economic development converge. The paper reveals how fashion designers envision their endeavours as pathways for pursuing their passion, for changing the associations ascribed to ‘Africanness’, and for revitalising failing clothing industries in Africa. The paper proposes that while the emerging character of the industry creates uncertainty and many obstacles for running viable businesses, fashion designers remain enthused by narratives about the industry’s future prospects.

Fashion designers and their business partners: Juggling creativity and commerce

Abstract Dual and complementary leadership is common in certain parts of the cultural and creative industries, such as in theatres or architecture firms. It is also surfacing now and then in the international designer fashion sector. Formerly hidden behind the branded glamour of a creative leader, the collaboration between a designer and a managerial/commercial leader has recently become more visible. In some countries, studies even claim that dual leadership is a sustainable managerial model for designer fashion entrepreneurship. What does this kind of leadership entail and how can its dynamics be understood? Theoretically, dual leadership can be seen as a particular form of the ambidextrous top management team (TMT). In order to succeed, a fashion designer and his business partner must juggle quantifiable and efficiency-driven processes as well as intangible and creativity-driven ones. How do they do this? To map the empirical field, this article turns to the practices of designer/business partner ‘pairs’ in Dutch small- and medium-sized fashion companies (SMEs). In this context, characteristics and collaborative practices are surfacing which are subsequently compared to TMT research. Results suggest a collectivist perspective on creative leadership and allow for some recommendations for Dutch designer fashion businesses and for research in other fashion geographies.

Local Buttons: Sustainable Fashion and Social Entrepreneurship in Haiti

Apparel manufacturing is the largest contributor to Haiti’s export sector, employing about 30,000 people, mainly in the nation’s capital of Port-au-Prince. This number is only a fraction of those who were employed in the garment sector during its peak in the 1980s, before a trade embargo imposed by the Organization of American States devastated Haiti’s apparel industry. Factories that had supplied various brands and retailers in the United States relocated to other regions of the globe, never to reestablish operations in Haiti. Today, in a post-earthquake economy, apparel production is returning and preferential trade agreements with the United States have been implemented to encourage US businesses to select Haiti as a sourcing option. The export of newly manufactured clothing from Haiti for consumption in the marketplaces of developed economies (primarily the United States) stands in contrast to the secondhand clothing imports that are sold in Haiti’s various marketplaces for local consumption. Used clothing is often imported to Haiti from the same markets that receive its new clothing exports. Secondhand clothing is frequently redesigned to suit local taste and body types by skilled seamstresses and tailors, resulting in a secondary informal economy driven by the selling of used clothing. This article discusses a novel business model implemented by a Toronto-based fashion startup in 2010 in an effort to support Haiti’s apparel manufacturing sector and also make use of the abundant secondhand clothing found it its local markets. This model presents a potential sustainable solution to the volumes of used clothing filling the global marketplaces of developing economies, often at the expense of economic growth that would be strengthened by local consumption of domestically produced clothing.

Chinese apparel value chains in Europe: low-end fast fashion, regionalization, and transnational entrepreneurship in Prato, Italy

Focusing on of the Chinese immigrants in the apparel industry in Prato, Italy, the paper shows that the emergence of pronto moda (the apparel industry in Prato) is a unique response to the rise of fast fashion in Europe. Bridging the literature of regionalization and value chain studies with the literature of transnational entrepreneurship in economic geography, the author shows that the competitiveness of pronto moda lies in both production teams in Prato and transnational Chinese networks across Europe. In particular, three lesser known dimensions of pronto moda are revealed. First, the internal power asymmetry within the Chinese production teams in Prato helps to stabilize the potentially fluid production teams but at the same time further contributes to persistent labor irregularities. Second, transnational Chinese entrepreneurship is affecting the low-end fast-fashion market in Europe especially in the horizontally integrated production networks supported by Chinese manufacturers and traders which have complex impacts on other ethnic entrepreneurs across Europe. Finally, the latest changes in pronto moda point to the potential risks the industry is facing and some of the longest established Chinese firms in Prato have left manufacturing and outsourced to China, signaling a major transformation in the model of pronto moda.

The Impact of Fashion Entrepreneurs’ Traits on the Success of Fashion Businesses in the Gauteng Province In South Africa

The aim of this article is to examine the impact of fashion entrepreneurs’ traits on the success of fashion businesses in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Entrepreneurs are said to be individuals who accept risks and who are innovative in terms of their business management skills, while displaying the personal traits of risk taking, creativity, ambition and other qualities involved in the provision of products and services to society. We argue that entrepreneurs are important because they contribute to the economy of the country. The research design employed for the study was quantitative, using a self-administered questionnaire to elicit information on the impact of fashion entrepreneurs’ traits on the success of the fashion businesses from respondents in the industry. The study found that 92.3 percent of fashion entrepreneurs take risks while 100 percent indicated that they were motivated by the success achieved in their businesses. Some of the fashion entrepreneurs (75.9 percent) indicated that they considered themselves to be creative. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2014.v5n4p78

Perceived Success of Entrepreneurs in the Vaal Region of South Africa with Special Reference to Fashion Entrepreneurs

The aim of this study is to investigate the perceived success of fashion entrepreneurs in the Vaal region of South Africa. With the advent of democracy in South Africa since 1994 and the ascendency to political power of the African National Congress (ANC), many transformations in the socio-political and economic spheres have taken place with a view to addressing the imbalances of the past inherited from the segregationist regime of the National Party (NP). Furthermore, the transformation agenda in the country has been directed at addressing issues of quality of life for all, equity in terms of education as well as access to health services, poverty eradication and unemployment. Consequently, with the intention of eradicating unemployment, a number of initiatives have been implemented. The research design for the study was a quantitative method of investigation, using a descriptive exploratory questionnaire to find information on the success of fashion entrepreneurs. The study found that most of the fashion entrepreneurs gained their sewing skills at universities (30.4 percent) while others learnt from their parents (21.6 percent). Glurbanization of the Chinese megacity Guangzhou – image-building and city development through entrepreneurial governance

Abstract. The continuing integration of the Chinese economy into the globalizing world and increasing intercity competition have had significant and comparatively recent implications for post-socialist urbanization in China. Driven by market-oriented development and globalization, decentralization of economic decision-making and downscaling of governance from the central state to local governments and authorities characterize the changing role of the state from urban managerialism to urban entrepreneurialism. Drawing on Jessop's definition of the entrepreneurial city and his concept of glurbanization, this paper aims to identify and analyse different modes of entrepreneurial urban governance based on the example of Guangzhou, a Chinese megacity that has been under intense pressure to revitalize its leading role as an economic, commercial and cultural centre in the Pearl River Delta and the rest of southern China. To face globalization and promote competitiveness, Guangzhou pursues various innovative interscalar entrepreneurial strategies in an active entrepreneurial fashion through adopting an entrepreneurial discourse. This is critically reflected upon within this article.

Entrepreneurship of an IT Fashion – The Case of Enterprise 2.0

This paper relies upon an in-depth case study in order to develop a theory of Information Technology (IT) fashion entrepreneurship, i.e. the discursive practices that a proponent of a new IT innovation concept – what we call an IT fashion entrepreneur – develops to generate and sustain the popularity and institutionalization of the innovation. Building on the case of such an IT fashion entrepreneur (Andrew McAfee), and an IT innovation concept (Enterprise 2.0), we propose a process model that explains how an IT fashion entrepreneur exploits changes in the IT and institutional opportunity structures, and strategically constructs an IT fashion frame. Our findings reveal how IT fashion entrepreneurs employ components of diagnostic, prognostic, and motivational framing in creating an IT fashion, and how these components construct different forms of legitimacy for the IT innovation concept. This research holds implications for the theory and practice of IT innovations.

Savoring the Process

This article traces the careers of Charles Kleibacker:fashion designer and entrepreneur with a focus on bias-cut construction in New York City (1960 to 1984), educator working primarily with Midwestern universities (1968 to 2010), and Columbus-based museum curator (1985 to 2010). An individualist creator and gifted communicator, he made his passion for exquisitely crafted garments the center of his life.
