Effect of entrepreneurial education on work motivation and polytechnic student entrepreneurial career intentions in Pariwisata Polytechnic Bali

The study aimed to determine the effect of entrepreneurship education on work motivation and entrepreneurial career intentions among Bali Tourism Polytechnic students. The research method is descriptive quantitative. The sampling technique of 2,556 students used random sampling based on the Morgan table corrected using the Warwick and Lininger formulas to get a sample of 392 respondents. Hypothesis testing uses Structural Equation Modeling analysis with Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM). The research results are; (1) Entrepreneurship education has a direct positive and significant effect on work motivation with a coefficient of 0.251 and T-statistics of 2.428 and P-Values of 0.016; (2) Entrepreneurship education has a direct positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial career intentions with a coefficient of 0.264 and T-Statistics of 2.281 and P-Values of 0.023; (3) Work motivation has a direct positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial career intention coefficient 0.468 and T-Statistics 5.868 and P-Values 0.000; (4) Entrepreneurship education has an indirect effect on entrepreneurial career intentions through work motivation coefficient 0.118 and T-Statistics 2.055 and P-Values 0.040. The findings of this study are that work motivation has the strongest direct effect on entrepreneurial career intentions and can mediate the influence of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial career intentions.

Does Narcissism Influence Entrepreneurial Intentions? A Theory of Planned Behaviour Perspective

Recent research on entrepreneurship has established that individuals with certain personality traits are more likely to take up entrepreneurial careers as compared to others. However, it is still unclear whether and how the dark side of individuals’ personality impacts entrepreneurial career intentions. Accordingly, this study, building on the theory of planned behaviour, seeks to explore the mechanisms through which narcissism—a dark personality trait—impacts entrepreneurial intention. The authors contend that narcissism shapes the individual’s attitude and worldview of the prevailing subjective norms, which collectively translate into evaluating entrepreneurship as a favourable career choice. This study empirically validates the hypotheses using a sample of 220 postgraduate students in an Indian business school. The findings offer crucial implications for individuals trying to make career choices; and demonstrate that it would be helpful for individuals to explore the dark side of their personality before arriving at an appropriate career choice.

Applications of Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour in Making Decision to Adopt a Career in Social Entrepreneurship

The primary objective of the research is to identify the determinants that influence the decision-making process of entrepreneurs in pursuing a social enterprise. The study is based on the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour, which is a well-known framework used to forecast intentions, encompassing social entrepreneurial career intentions. However, prior research has predominantly focused on conventional entrepreneurship. The central aim of this research is to explore whether there are any variations in the factors that influence the intention of establishing a social enterprise as a means of conducting one's own business. The current study specifically investigates the degree of correlation between Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour predictors and the intentions of pursuing a socially entrepreneurial career. The research compares the determinants that underlie the decision to launch a social enterprise based on a comprehensive sample of 142 Romanian social entrepreneurs and their evaluations of social entrepreneurial career intentions. The findings validate the widespread impact of attitudes and perceived behavioural control (self-efficacy) on social entrepreneurial career intentions, as well as the effects of subjective norms.

From committed employees to rebels: the role of prosocial rule-breaking, age, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy

Exploring the critical but largely overlooked rule-breaking nature of entrepreneurship, we study how a specific form of rule-breaking—prosocial rule-breaking (PSRB), can impact people’s entrepreneurial career intentions. Based on the virtue-based model of entrepreneurial rule-breaking, stewardship theory, and the expectancy framework, we expect that employees’ affective organizational commitment will lead to employees’ PSRB, which, under some conditions, is related to their tendency to quit and start new businesses. Our moderated mediation analyses on time-lagged data from two samples in China support an indirect relationship between affective organizational commitment and entrepreneurial intentions mediated by PSRB and moderated by age and entrepreneurial self-efficacy simultaneously. We discuss theoretical and practical implications.

How entrepreneurship program characteristics foster students' study engagement and entrepreneurial career intentions: A longitudinal study

Applying the job demands-resources and regulatory focus theory to the educational context, this study investigated how entrepreneurship program characteristics foster students' study engagement and entrepreneurial career intentions. Longitudinal data were collected among 154 Dutch students, who completed a questionnaire before, halfway, and at the end of an entrepreneurship program. Results showed that program resources (teacher-student and student-student relationships) positively related to study engagement, which subsequently, increased entrepreneurial career intentions. Challenge demands (a challenging learning environment) did not relate to study engagement over and above program resources. Promotion focus related to high and prevention focus related to low study engagement. We expected that promotion focus would boost and prevention focus would attenuate the positive impact of program characteristics. Results however showed that both a promotion and a prevention focus boost the impact of student-student relationships on study engagement. Prevention focus attenuated the impact of teacher-student relationships on study engagement. The findings can be used to improve entrepreneurship programs and educational pedagogy.

Proactive personality and entrepreneurial intention: Social class’ moderating effect among college students

AbstractThe association between a proactive personality and entrepreneurial career intention with the moderating effect of social class (socioeconomic status and subjective social class) was examined in Chinese college students in the current study. After controlling for gender and university grade, a proactive personality was discovered to positively predict entrepreneurial intention (both goal intention and implementation intention) among a sample of 367 college students (228 females and 139 males; 119 freshmen, 166 sophomores, and 82 juniors). Subjective social class strengthened the relationship between a proactive personality and entrepreneurial intention, whereas socioeconomic status did not significantly moderate this relationship. Finally, the implications of the results and suggestions for future research were discussed.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of gender factors on entrepreneurial career intention and entrepreneurial career selection behavior in an experimental study of the Entrepreneurial Career Intention Intervention Program (ECIP). The program uses modules developed with the integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The study population was counseling students at Sultan Azlan Shah University in Perak, Malaysia. The sampling was conducted through purposive sampling method which involved100 students as the respondents. The data was analyzed using SPPS, and the results show that gender has no influence on the treatment in the intervention program.

The Effect of Entrepreneurship Education on Students’ Entrepreneurial Career Intentions: A Study of Tertiary Institutions in Bayelsa State

The subject of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship intention has received extensive investigation by researchers in diverse fields and from different perspectives. The aim of this research is to investigate how entrepreneurship is being taught in Nigeria and the effectiveness of the teaching methods used in delivering the programmes; evaluate the impact of EE teaching approaches on students’ entrepreneurship career intentions; and ascertain as well as evaluate key performance indicators/success measurement criteria. The research design is descriptive survey, population of the study which comprises all tertiary institution in Bayelsa State amounted to 33139 and the sample size was 395. The questionnaires were distributed electronically and responses were received accordingly. Descriptive statistics was used for data analyses (mean and standard deviation), while the hypotheses testing was inferential statistics (Pearson correlation). The results of the study shown that 87% of the respondents have impressive opinion about the entrepreneurship education delivered in Nigerian tertiary institutions. A high percentage of the student respondents rated the content of entrepreneurship lectures of strongly agreed and agreed (84%). This is a positive response with an important implication knowing that entrepreneurship is more than the mere creation of business. The characteristics of seeking opportunities, taking risks beyond security, and having the tenacity to push an idea through to reality combine into a special perspective that permeates entrepreneurs. Hence, the work recommends that entrepreneurship education should be made compulsory in all faculties in our tertiary institutions, funding should be made available by government to sponsor entrepreneurship training, mind-set training, business proposal after lectures, government should collaborate with tertiary institutions in updating curriculum on entrepreneurship education regularly as the need be and train manpower for effective delivery

Developing entrepreneurial career intention in entrepreneurial university: the role of counterfactual thinking

ABSTRACT This study addressed the question of how the counterfactual thinking of a student in an entrepreneurial university affects his/her future entrepreneurial career intention. In addition to testing this relationship, we also test how counterfactual thinking moderates the influence of attitude and opportunity identification in entrepreneurial career intention in an entrepreneurial university. We found that in an entrepreneurial university, counterfactual thinking is modifying the influence of attitude and opportunity identification in entrepreneurial career intention, but counterfactual thinking has no significant direct influence on entrepreneurial career intention of the students.

Is it all about creating new firms? A broader look at the impact of the Entrepreneurial University on youth employment

ABSTRACT While research on Entrepreneurial University has largely focused on the support to venture creation, its contribution to youth employment and society might be much broader. Entrepreneurial capabilities and attitudes students acquire at universities are crucial also in wageed jobs, and firms need employees predisposed to act entrepreneurially to stay competitive. However, we do not know much about the role of universities in preparing the next generation of graduates for such challenges. To address this gap, in this paper we investigate the extent to which entrepreneurial learning at university contributes to students’ career intentions to work for small rather than larger firms. Additionally, we consider the role of the family context and investigate how the university's influence on students’ career intentions is moderated by students’ exposure to entrepreneurship in their family. Using data from 155,358 students, we find that entrepreneurial learning at university is negatively associated with the preference to work for small firms compared to larger firms and that this effect is even more pronounced for students with enterprising family background, particularly those who have shares in their parents’ company. Besides contributing to research on Entrepreneurial University and career intentions, our findings offer practical implications for universities and employers.

Effects of Entrepreneurial Competence and Planning Guidance on the Relation Between University Students’ Attitude and Entrepreneurial Intention

The objective of this article is to analyse the effect of entrepreneurial competence and planning guidance on the relations between university students’ entrepreneurial attitude and entrepreneurial intention. In this correlational study, the empirical model was tested through Structural Equation Modeling on a sample of 2,771 university students via an online survey at a federal higher education institution in northeastern Brazil. The results point to the moderation effect only of entrepreneurial competence on the relation between entrepreneurial attitude and intention, with this relationship being stronger in students who perceive themselves as more competent. We conclude that self-perception of entrepreneurial skills strengthens the effects of positive attitudes on entrepreneurial career intention, which adds to other evidence of the importance of context and entrepreneurial education for engaging in that career.

Tracking precursors of entrepreneurial intention: the case of researchers involved in eco-label industry

This article is based on the adaptation of Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (TPB) to build an entrepreneurial intention framework tailored to the specific context of researchers involved in eco-label industry, who can be perceived as nascent entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurial intention model is tested on a convenience sample of researchers involved in eco-label industry from a wide range of countries. The configurational effect of research experience, personal attitude, funding instruments and entrepreneurial education level is tested for causal condition related to entrepreneurial intention of 25 eco-label researchers. The qualitative approach of data reveals that research experience and personal attitude relate positively to entrepreneurial career intentions and that these relationships are mediated by entrepreneurial education level. A multi-sided online platform connecting innovators and potential investors is considered a suitable solution for funding respondents’ results of research and innovation activities. Stimulating entrepreneurial motivations and intentions may help researchers to better adapt to alternative career perspectives. Results of this study suggest several ways to stimulate entrepreneurial career choices among researchers involved in eco-label industry.

Entrepreneurship Education in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions and its Impact on Students’ Entrepreneurial Career Intentions. A Study of Students at Federal Polytechnic Ekowe

Purpose: Entrepreneurship education as an influencer of graduate entrepreneurial intention is gaining massive attention amongst practitioners, policy makers and academics across the globe. The proliferation of entrepreneurship courses in universities around the world is evident of this wide acceptance of entrepreneurship education as a strategy for graduate entrepreneurship. The purpose of this research paper is to ascertain the impact entrepreneurship education has on students’ entrepreneurial career intentions.Methodology: The article includes a review of literature in entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention to gain background knowledge. This research is a qualitative, interpretive phenomenological study and relies on narrative as a means of knowing, and as a form of communication. The scope of the study is year one students at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil & Gas Ekowe in the departments of Computer Science, Science Laboratory Technology and Statistics. The questionnaire was designed in a semi-structured way and distributed to students to return after 7 days to allow for proper articulation of narratives.Findings: A total of 42 students participated in the interview and 42 returned. 28.57% representing 12 students showed intention to start a business, 40.48% (17 students) desire to get a job after graduation while 13 students (30.95%) are unsure what they want to do after graduation. The results indicate that entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on students’ entrepreneurial career intention but other than EE, it was also revealed from participants’ narratives that age, prior experience and parents’ status have positive influence on graduate entrepreneurial decisions.Implication of Findings: Findings will aid curriculum designers and educational policy makers to scrutinize and re-examine EE programmes and how they are taught to enhance practice.Originality: Narratives and storytelling methods are not the common methods adopted in entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention research. More research should be carried out using this method to validate results from this approach.

The Influence of Attitude, Interest, Teachers and Peers on Entrepreneurial Career Intention

The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of interest, attitude, teachers and peers towards entrepreneurial career intention of religious secondary school students in Malaysia. The objectives of this study are to identify the level of interest, attitude, teachers’ guidance, peers and behaviour towards students’ entrepreneurial career intention, and to identify the influence of attitude, interest, teachers’ guidance, and peers towards student behaviour on entrepreneurial career intention. This quantitative study uses a survey design involving 328 religious secondary school students in the Sepang district based on multistage sampling starting from stratified random sampling to simple random sampling. The result of the study showed that the domains of attitude, interest, teachers’ guidance, peers and behaviour of entrepreneurial career intention are at a moderately high level. The result of the analysis also revealed that the domain of attitude, interest, teachers’ guidance and peers have significant influence over behaviour on entrepreneurial career intention at 62.6 percent. The domain of interest is the best way to predict the behaviour of students’ entrepreneurial career intention compared to other domains. On the other hand, the domain of attitude is the worst in predicting the behaviour of entrepreneurial career intention. These findings clearly indicate that religious secondary school students have a moderately high tendency to choose entrepreneurship as a career which is driven by interest, teachers’ guidance and peers. The implications of the study also contribute to the applicability of the Theory of Planned Behaviour by Ajzen (1991). Meanwhile, schools need to play a role nurturing entrepreneurial attitudes through formal and informal education continuously.

Fast and Slow Life Strategies in Entrepreneurial Career Paths

Individuals find their way to entrepreneurship either via early entrepreneurial career activities or a transitional phase in employment. Drawing on the theory of planned behavior and life history theory, our study explains how beliefs relevant to behavior and social origins influence individual career paths to entrepreneurship. Results are based on a nationwide survey involving 1003 individuals in a critical career decision phase and show that individuals growing up in rather uncertain environments (i.e., those from lower social classes) are more likely to postpone their entrepreneurial career intentions.

Impact of Future Time Perspective on Entrepreneurial Career Intention for Individual Sustainable Career Development: The Roles of Learning Orientation and Entrepreneurial Passion

This study addressed the underlying mechanisms through which future time perspective (FTP) motivates entrepreneurial career intention. By focusing on entrepreneurship as an important career decision for individual sustainable career development, we argued that the generic use of a learning orientation approach mediates the effect of the presence of an extended FTP on individual entrepreneurial career intention. We also posited that entrepreneurial passion for founding moderates the relationship between learning orientation and individual entrepreneurial career intention. Using a survey data of 416 students attending a Chinese public sector university, we found that FTP enhanced learning orientation, which, in turn, stimulated entrepreneurial career intention. Moreover, the positive relationship between learning orientation and entrepreneurial career intention became strong as entrepreneurial passion for founding increased. Results were discussed in terms of implications for theory and practice.
