Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are an increasingly meaningful method for the early detection of various types of cancers, including lung cancer, through non-invasive methods. Traditional cancer detection techniques such as biopsies, imaging, and blood tests, though effective, often involve invasive procedures or are costly, time consuming, and painful. Recent advancements in technology have led to the exploration of VOC detection as a promising non-invasive and comfortable alternative. VOCs are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at room temperature, making them readily detectable in breath, urine, and skin. The present study leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to enhance classification accuracy and efficiency in detecting lung cancer through VOC analysis collected from exhaled breath air. Unlike other studies that primarily focus on identifying specific compounds, this study takes an agnostic approach, maximizing detection efficiency over the identification of specific compounds focusing on the overall compositional profiles and their differences across groups of patients. The results reported hereby uphold the potential of AI-driven techniques in revolutionizing early cancer detection methodologies towards their implementation in a clinical setting.

Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Based Brain Tumor Classification with a Hybrid Swin Transformer and ResNet50V2 Model

Brain tumors can be serious; consequently, rapid and accurate detection is crucial. Nevertheless, a variety of obstacles, such as poor imaging resolution, doubts over the accuracy of data, a lack of diverse tumor classes and stages, and the possibility of misunderstanding, present challenges to achieve an accurate and final diagnosis. Effective brain cancer detection is crucial for patients’ safety and health. Deep learning systems provide the capability to assist radiologists in quickly and accurately detecting diagnoses. This study presents an innovative deep learning approach that utilizes the Swin Transformer. The suggested method entails integrating the Swin Transformer with the pretrained deep learning model Resnet50V2, called (SwT+Resnet50V2). The objective of this modification is to decrease memory utilization, enhance classification accuracy, and reduce training complexity. The self-attention mechanism of the Swin Transformer identifies distant relationships and captures the overall context. Resnet 50V2 improves both accuracy and training speed by extracting adaptive features from the Swin Transformer’s dependencies. We evaluate the proposed framework using two publicly accessible brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) datasets, each including two and four distinct classes, respectively. Employing data augmentation and transfer learning techniques enhances model performance, leading to more dependable and cost-effective training. The suggested model achieves an impressive accuracy of 99.9% on the binary-labeled dataset and 96.8% on the four-labeled dataset, outperforming the VGG16, MobileNetV2, Resnet50V2, EfficientNetV2B3, ConvNeXtTiny, and convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithms used for comparison. This demonstrates that the Swin transducer, when combined with Resnet50V2, is capable of accurately diagnosing brain tumors. This method leverages the combination of SwT+Resnet50V2 to create an innovative diagnostic tool. Radiologists have the potential to accelerate and improve the detection of brain tumors, leading to improved patient outcomes and reduced risks.

Advanced Image Preprocessing and Integrated Modeling for UAV Plant Image Classification

The automatic identification of plant species using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is a valuable tool for ecological research. However, challenges such as reduced spatial resolution due to high-altitude operations, image degradation from camera optics and sensor limitations, and information loss caused by terrain shadows hinder the accurate classification of plant species from UAV imagery. This study addresses these issues by proposing a novel image preprocessing pipeline and evaluating its impact on model performance. Our approach improves image quality through a multi-step pipeline that includes Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks (ESRGAN) for resolution enhancement, Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) for contrast improvement, and white balance adjustments for accurate color representation. These preprocessing steps ensure high-quality input data, leading to better model performance. For feature extraction and classification, we employ a pre-trained VGG-16 deep convolutional neural network, followed by machine learning classifiers, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). This hybrid approach, combining deep learning for feature extraction with machine learning for classification, not only enhances classification accuracy but also reduces computational resource requirements compared to relying solely on deep learning models. Notably, the VGG-16 + SVM model achieved an outstanding accuracy of 97.88% on a dataset preprocessed with ESRGAN and white balance adjustments, with a precision of 97.9%, a recall of 97.8%, and an F1 score of 0.978. Through a comprehensive comparative study, we demonstrate that the proposed framework, utilizing VGG-16 for feature extraction, SVM for classification, and preprocessed images with ESRGAN and white balance adjustments, achieves superior performance in plant species identification from UAV imagery.

A new strategy based on multi-source remote sensing data for improving the accuracy of land use/cover change classification.

Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) plays a crucial role in sustainable land management and regional planning. However, contemporary feature extraction approaches often prove inefficient at capturing critical data features, thereby complicating land cover categorization. In this research, we introduce a new feature extraction algorithm alongside a Segmented and Stratified Principal Component Analysis (SS-PCA) dimensionality reduction method based on correlation grouping. These methods are applied to UAV LiDAR and UAV HSI data collected from land use types (e.g., residential areas, agricultural lands) and specific species (e.g., tree species) in urban, agricultural, and natural environments to reflect the diversity of the study area and to demonstrate the ability of our methods to be applied in different classification scenarios. We utilize LiDAR and HSI data to extract 157 features, including intensity, height, Normalized Digital Surface Model (nDSM), spectral, texture, and index features, to identify the optimal feature subset. Subsequently, the best feature subset is inputted into a random forest classifier to classify the features. Our findings demonstrate that the SS-PCA method successfully enhances downscaled feature bands, reduces hyperspectral data noise, and improves classification accuracy (Overall Accuracy = 91.17%). Additionally, the CFW method effectively screens appropriate features, thereby increasing classification accuracy for LiDAR (Overall Accuracy = 78.10%), HIS (Overall Accuracy = 89.87%), and LiDAR + HIS (Overall Accuracy = 97.17%) data across various areas. Moreover, the integration of LiDAR and HSI data holds promise for significantly improving ground fine classification accuracy while mitigating issues such as the 'salt and pepper noise'. Furthermore, among individual features, the LiDAR intensity feature emerges as critical for enhancing classification accuracy, while among single-class features, the HSI feature proves most influential in improving classification accuracy.

Asteroid material classification based on multi-parameter constraints using artificial intelligence

Material types of asteroids provide key clues to their evolutionary history and contained resources. The Gaia mission has released extensive low-resolution spectral observation data of small Solar System bodies. However, methods for classifying asteroids based on low-resolution space-based spectra are still inadequate, and do not fully leverage the complementary features of spectra and multiple intrinsic attributes of asteroids to achieve precise material classification. Our goal is to propose a method with a higher generalization accuracy for asteroid material classification by integrating multi-source information, identifying optimal feature combinations for model inputs, and deepening the understanding of relationships among asteroid parameters. The effective asteroid photometric, physical, and orbital parameters were screened using the information gain ratio and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Then, artificial intelligence techniques were employed to combine asteroid spectra with the selected various parameters for six-class material classification. By comparing five machine learning models, we identified network structures with higher validation accuracy and stable generalization performance. Meanwhile, feature ablation experiments were conducted to determine the input parameter combinations suitable for different scenarios. Finally, based on the statistical results and model outputs, the constraint relationships among asteroid parameters were visualized and analyzed. The proposed AsterRF model achieved a validation accuracy of 92.2<!PCT!>, an improvement of approximately 7.8 percentage points compared to existing methods that use only spectra. V-type asteroids exhibited the highest classification accuracy, followed by A-type and D-type. X-type asteroids had the lowest precision and recall, and were easily confused with C-type. The model generally showed higher classification confidence for S-type asteroids. The top five attributes that the model focused on are the phase slope parameter (G), orbital type, albedo, H magnitude, and effective diameter. Additionally, the correlations between asteroid materials and other parameters were generally below 0.4. Incorporating optimal asteroid parameter combinations can significantly enhance classification accuracy based on spectra. A dual-channel network that processes spectra and parameter inputs separately, and employs a self-attention mechanism for feature fusion is effective in combining multi-source asteroid information. Both the statistical correlations and model performance-based importance rankings of parameters contribute to understanding the constraint relationships among asteroid attributes.

Exploring multiple optimization algorithms in transfer learning with EfficientNet models for agricultural insect classification

Dangerous insects are a significant risk to the global agricultural industry, threatening food security, economic stability, and crop quality. This study investigates the impact of multiple optimization algorithms within transfer learning, employing EfficientNet models for the classification of agricultural insects. The explored optimization algorithms include Adam, Adamax, AdamW, RMSprop, and SGD, while utilizing the EfficientNetB0, EfficientNetB3, EfficientNetB5, and EfficientNetB7 architectures. Experimental results show notable performance differences between optimization algorithms across all EfficiencyNet models in the study. Among the measured metrics are precision, recall, f1-score, accuracy, and loss, the AdamW optimizer consistently demonstrates superior performance compared to other algorithms. The findings underscore the critical influence of optimization algorithms in enhancing classification accuracy and convergence within transfer learning scenarios. Additionally, the study employs various visualization techniques, such as Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) to enhance the interpretation of the image classification model’s results. By focusing on these methodologies, this research aims to improve the model’s performance, optimize its capabilities, and ultimately contribute to effective pest management strategies in agriculture, safeguarding crop yields, farmer livelihoods, and global food security.

Comparing SMILES and SELFIES tokenization for enhanced chemical language modeling

Life sciences research and experimentation are resource-intensive, requiring extensive trials and considerable time. Often, experiments do not achieve their intended objectives, but progress is made through trial and error, eventually leading to breakthroughs. Machine learning is transforming this traditional approach, providing methods to expedite processes and accelerate discoveries. Deep Learning is becoming increasingly prominent in chemistry, with Convolutional Graph Networks (CGN) being a key focus, though other approaches also show significant potential. This research explores the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical language representations, specifically SMILES and SELFIES, using tokenization methods such as Byte Pair Encoding (BPE) and a novel approach developed in this study, Atom Pair Encoding (APE), in BERT-based models. The primary objective is to assess how these tokenization techniques influence the performance of chemical language models in biophysics and physiology classification tasks. The findings reveal that APE, particularly when used with SMILES representations, significantly outperforms BPE by preserving the integrity and contextual relationships among chemical elements, thereby enhancing classification accuracy. Performance was evaluated in downstream classification tasks using three distinct datasets for HIV, toxicology, and blood–brain barrier penetration, with ROC-AUC serving as the evaluation metric. This study highlights the critical role of tokenization in processing chemical language and suggests that refining these techniques could lead to significant advancements in drug discovery and material science.

Imbalanced graph learning via mixed entropy minimization

Imbalanced datasets, where the minority class is underrepresented, pose significant challenges for node classification in graph learning. Traditional methods often address this issue through synthetic oversampling techniques for the minority class, which can complicate the training process. To address these challenges, we introduce a novel training paradigm for node classification on imbalanced graphs, based on mixed entropy minimization (ME). Our proposed method, GraphME, offers a ‘free imbalance defense’ against class imbalance without requiring additional steps to improve classification performance. ME aims to achieve the same goal as cross-entropy-maximizing the model’s probability for the correct classes-while effectively reducing the impact of incorrect class probabilities through a “guidance” term that ensures a balanced trade-off. We validate the effectiveness of our approach through experiments on multiple datasets, where GraphME consistently outperforms the traditional cross-entropy objective, demonstrating enhanced robustness. Moreover, our method can be seamlessly integrated with various adversarial training techniques, leading to substantial improvements in robustness. Notably, GraphME enhances classification accuracy without compromising efficiency, a significant improvement over existing methods. Mango leaf disease diagnosis using Total Variation Filter Based Variational Mode Decomposition

Mango leaf diseases significantly threaten mango cultivation, impacting both yield and quality. Accurate and early diagnosis is essential for effectively managing and controlling these diseases. This study introduces a novel approach for diagnosing mango leaf diseases, leveraging Total Variation Filter-based Variational Mode Decomposition. The proposed method enhances the extraction of disease-specific features from leaf images by decomposing them into intrinsic mode functions while simultaneously reducing noise and preserving important edge information. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively isolates relevant patterns associated with various mango leaf diseases, improving diagnostic accuracy compared to traditional methods. Deep learning models, DenseNet121 and VGG-19, are used for feature extraction from sub-band images, and extracted features are concatenated and fed to Random Forest for classification. Utilizing tenfold cross-validation, our model demonstrated enhanced classification accuracy (98.85 %), specificity (99.37 %), and sensitivity (98.0 %) in detecting diseases from Mango leaf images. Feature maps and Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping analysis was conducted to visualize and scrutinize the essential regions crucial for accurate predictions. Statistical analysis indicates that our proposed architecture outperforms pre-trained models and existing mango leaf disease detection methods. This diagnostic approach can be a rapid disease detection tool for imaging specialists utilizing leaf images. The robustness and efficiency of the presented work in handling complex and noisy image data make it a promising tool for automated agricultural disease diagnosis systems, facilitating timely and precise interventions in mango orchards.

Enhancing machine learning multi-class fault detection in electric motors through entropy-based analysis

Abstract In the field of electric motor maintenance, this study introduces a transformative approach by inte-grating entropy-based algorithms with machine learning for enhanced multi-class fault detection. Employing Shannon, Renyi, and Tsallis entropy algorithms on standard fault detection measure-ments, the research significantly advances predictive maintenance strategies through a robust, ear-ly-indication, system-agnostic analysis. Detailed examination is conducted, comparing results de-rived from datasets that include statistical features (excluding entropy) against the proposed entro-py-based datasets, when applied to a Multi-Layer Perceptron Classifier. Optimization of the MLPC and all compared algorithms’ hyperparameters is done using the state-of-the-art Optuna tool to dynamically explore each search space, ensuring that each methodology performs adequately in a timely fashion while allowing for adaptation. The results showcase significant enhancement in clas-sification accuracy of diverse electric motor operational states, facilitating the differentiation be-tween healthy and various levels of fault conditions under assorted load scenarios. Computational analyses reveal favorable results related to execution time and memory overhead, thereby support-ing the practicality in operations constrained by memory resources. Validation of the approach is achieved through laboratory experiments on a purpose-built test bench. Versatility of entropy-based measures through their proposed utilization in diverse fault indications is achieved by a demonstration in the field of mechanical fault detection with a focus on bearing faults through well-respected datasets.

Multi-resolution visual Mamba with multi-directional selective mechanism for retinal disease detection.

Retinal diseases significantly impact patients' quality of life and increase social medical costs. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) offers high-resolution imaging for precise detection and monitoring of these conditions. While deep learning techniques have been employed to extract features from OCT images for classification, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) often fail to capture global context due to their focus on local receptive fields. Transformer-based methods, on the other hand, suffer from quadratic complexity when handling long-range dependencies. To overcome these limitations, we introduce the Multi-Resolution Visual Mamba (MRVM) model, which addresses long-range dependencies with linear computational complexity for OCT image classification. The MRVM model initially employs convolution to extract local features and subsequently utilizes the retinal Mamba to capture global dependencies. By integrating multi-scale global features, the MRVM enhances classification accuracy and overall performance. Additionally, the multi-directional selection mechanism (MSM) within the retinal Mamba improves feature extraction by concentrating on various directions, thereby better capturing complex, orientation-specific retinal patterns. Experimental results demonstrate that the MRVM model excels in differentiating retinal images with various lesions, achieving superior detection accuracy compared to traditional methods, with overall accuracies of 98.98\% and 96.21\% on two public datasets, respectively. This approach offers a novel perspective for accurately identifying retinal diseases and could contribute to the development of more robust artificial intelligence algorithms and recognition systems for medical image-assisted diagnosis.

SCKansformer: Fine-Grained Classification of Bone Marrow Cells via Kansformer Backbone and Hierarchical Attention Mechanisms.

The incidence and mortality rates of malignant tumors, such as acute leukemia, have risen significantly. Clinically, hospitals rely on cytological examination of peripheral blood and bone marrow smears to diagnose malignant tumors, with accurate blood cell counting being crucial. Existing automated methods face challenges such as low feature expression capability, poor interpretability, and redundant feature extraction when processing highdimensional microimage data. We propose a novel finegrained classification model, SCKansformer, for bone marrow blood cells, which addresses these challenges and enhances classification accuracy and efficiency. The model integrates the Kansformer Encoder, SCConv Encoder, and Global-Local Attention Encoder. The Kansformer Encoder replaces the traditional MLP layer with the KAN, improving nonlinear feature representation and interpretability. The SCConv Encoder, with its Spatial and Channel Reconstruction Units, enhances feature representation and reduces redundancy. The Global-Local Attention Encoder combines Multi-head Self-Attention with a Local Part module to capture both global and local features. We validated our model using the Bone Marrow Blood Cell FineGrained Classification Dataset (BMCD-FGCD), comprising over 10,000 samples and nearly 40 classifications, developed with a partner hospital. Comparative experiments on our private dataset, as well as the publicly available PBC and ALL-IDB datasets, demonstrate that SCKansformer outperforms both typical and advanced microcell classification methods across all datasets.

A Comparative Study of Metaheuristic Feature Selection Algorithms for Respiratory Disease Classification.

The correct diagnosis and early treatment of respiratory diseases can significantly improve the health status of patients, reduce healthcare expenses, and enhance quality of life. Therefore, there has been extensive interest in developing automatic respiratory disease detection systems. Most recent methods for detecting respiratory disease use machine and deep learning algorithms. The success of these machine learning methods depends heavily on the selection of proper features to be used in the classifier. Although metaheuristic-based feature selection methods have been successful in addressing difficulties presented by high-dimensional medical data in various biomedical classification tasks, there is not much research on the utilization of metaheuristic methods in respiratory disease classification. This paper aims to conduct a detailed and comparative analysis of six widely used metaheuristic optimization methods using eight different transfer functions in respiratory disease classification. For this purpose, two different classification cases were examined: binary and multi-class. The findings demonstrate that metaheuristic algorithms using correct transfer functions could effectively reduce data dimensionality while enhancing classification accuracy.

A depth graph attention-based multi-channel transfer learning network for fluid classification from logging data

Fluid classification is a fundamental task in the field of geological sciences to achieve effective reservoir characterization and hydrocarbon exploration. Traditional fluid classification methods are often limited by long processing times and an inability to capture complex relationships within the data. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel deep learning approach—the Deep Graph Attention Multi-channel Transfer Learning Network (DGMT), aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy of fluid classification from logging data. This model comprises three key components: a graph attention layer, a multi-channel feature extractor, and a transfer learning module. The graph attention layer is designed to handle spatial dependencies between different logging channels, enhancing classification accuracy by focusing on critical features. The multi-channel feature extractor integrates information from various data sources, ensuring comprehensive utilization of the rich information in logging data. The transfer learning module allows the model to transfer knowledge from pre-trained models of similar tasks, accelerating the training process and significantly improving the model's generalization ability and robustness. This feature enables the DGMT model to adapt to different geological environments and logging conditions, showing superior performance over traditional methods. To validate the effectiveness of the DGMT model, we conducted experiments on actual logging datasets containing multiple oil wells. The experimental results indicate that, compared to common machine learning algorithms and other deep learning methods, the DGMT model significantly improves in accuracy and other classification performance metrics.

Advancing Iot Security: A Novel Intrusion Detection System for Evolving Threats In Industry 4.0 Using Optimized Convolutional Sparse Ficks Law Graph Point Trans-Net

With the rapid advancement of Industry 4.0, the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) strategies in industrial environments has increased exponentially. While this integration enhances productivity and efficiency, it also introduces significant security vulnerabilities. Previous research has employed several deep learning approaches for intrusion detection; however, these methods often suffer from insufficient accuracy, increased computational time, complexity, and higher error rates. To address these issues, this work proposes an innovative solution: "Advancing IoT Security: A Novel Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for Evolving Threats in Industry 4.0 using optimized Convolutional Sparse Fick's Law Graph Pointtrans-Net (CSFLGPtrans-Net)." The proposed system utilizes a comprehensive intrusion detection dataset composed of four different datasets: ToN-IoT, NSL-KDD, CSE‑CIC‑IDS2018, and IoT_bot. Initially, the input data undergoes a pre-processing stage that includes cleaning columns and rows, encoding features, and normalizing data. Following this, a hybrid optimization method, combining the Fire Hawk Optimizer with the Spider Wasp Optimizer, is applied for feature selection. This step is crucial for identifying the most significant features to enhance classification accuracy. The refined data is then classified using the CSFLGPtrans-Net model. To ensure secure data transfer, Fuzzy-based Elliptic Curve Cryptography (FECC) is employed. Experimental simulations conducted on the Python platform demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing approaches across various performance metrics, achieving a higher accuracy of 98% and a recall of 0.993. These results highlight the method's superior efficiency and potential for further advancement in securing Industry 4.0 environments.

A comprehensive review of neuroimaging-based AI models for autism classification

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication, and behavior. Traditional diagnostic methods rely heavily on behavioral assessments, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R), which are often subjective and limited by the absence of definitive biomarkers. Recent advances in neuroimaging techniques, including structural MRI (sMRI), functional MRI (fMRI), and positron emission tomography (PET), have provided valuable insights into the structural and functional abnormalities associated with ASD. However, the analysis of neuroimaging data is complex, requiring sophisticated machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) models. This paper reviews state-of-the-art machine learning approaches, such as Random Forests, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and deep learning models, aimed at improving the diagnostic accuracy of ASD. We particularly focus on multimodal deep learning models that integrate neuroimaging data with behavioral assessments. In this review, we critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of these approaches, and how emerging AI tools not only enhance classification accuracy but also hold potential for identifying biomarkers and tracking the disorder's progression. Our analysis underscores the need for advanced methods that exploit both spatial and temporal features of brain data to better understand ASD, paving the way for improved diagnostics and personalized treatments.

Deep Learning-Based Classification of Powerlifting Movements Using Mediapipe

The analysis of sports movements is of great importance for optimizing sports performance, minimizing injury risks, and ensuring that athletes work with correct techniques. Powerlifting is a power sport consisting of fundamental movements such as bench press, deadlift, and squat. These movements are inherently complex and challenging to execute. Therefore, it is of great importance to perform these movements with the correct technique and safely. The aim of this study was to classify these movements using deep learning methods to ensure that the basic movements in powerlifting sports (bench press, deadlift, and squat) are applied with correct techniques and to minimize the risk of injury. In this study, feature extraction was performed on powerlifting movements using the deep learning-based SqueezeNet model, followed by classification using machine learning methods. The dataset was compiled from 876 images of bench press, deadlift, and squat movements sourced from various online platforms. Additionally, the dataset was expanded through data augmentation techniques, and key points of posture estimation were added to the images using the Mediapipe library. The obtained datasets were classified using Neural Network, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine and Random Forest algorithms and model performances were evaluated using various metrics. The findings revealed that the Neural Network model demonstrated superior performance, achieving the highest accuracy (0.989). Additionally, the integration of pose estimation and data augmentation techniques significantly enhanced classification accuracy and overall model performance. The findings of this study show that deep learning methods are powerful tools in sports movement analysis and can make significant contributions to the evaluation of athletes' performance.

A Survey on Classifying Ocular Diseases Using Deep Learning and Machine Learning Techniques

In ophthalmology, using fundus images to identify ocular diseases early may pose challenges for clinicians. Manually diagnosing ocular conditions is time-consuming, difficult, and requires experimentation. As a result, technology was created to help computers differentiate between ocular diseases. It is possible to create a system of this type due to different learning algorithms based on visual capabilities. Recent breakthroughs in deep learning and machine learning have led to the development of intelligent systems that improve accuracy and efficiency in classifying eye diseases. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive survey of modern systems that classify ocular problems using different methods, including pre-trained deep learning networks, using the Ocular Disease Intelligent Recognition (ODIR) dataset. The goal is to build and train a model that can recognize and classify ocular disorders. Previous research indicates the increasing use of deep learning techniques. CNN-based methods have spread widely in this field, compared to traditional manual procedures, due to their outstanding results. The most prominent deep learning techniques are convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and various learning methods for increasing and transferring data. The survey highlights the potential of these systems to enhance classification accuracy and sensitivity while addressing challenges such as data availability, interpretability, and integration with clinical practice.

Optimizing Random Forest for Predicting Thoracic Surgery Success in Lung Cancer Using Recursive Feature Elimination and GridSearchCV

Abstract. Lung cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, claiming numerous lives annually. Thoracic surgery is a strategy to manage lung cancer patients; however, it poses high risks, including potential nerve damage and fatal complications leading to mortality. Predicting the success rate of thoracic surgery for lung cancer patients can be accomplished using data mining techniques based on classification principles. Medical data mining involves employing mathematical, statistical, and computational methods. In this study, the prediction of thoracic surgery success employs the random forest algorithm with recursive feature elimination for feature selection. The feature selection process yields the top 8 features. The 8 best features include 'DGN', 'PRE4', 'PRE5', 'PRE6', 'PRE10', 'PRE14', 'PRE30', and 'AGE'. Hyperparameter using GridSearchCV is then applied to enhance classification accuracy. The results of this method implementation demonstrate a predictive accuracy of 91.41%. Purpose: The study aims to develop and evaluate a Random Forest model with a Recursive Feature Elimination feature selection and applies hyperparameter GridSearchCV for predicting thoracic surgery success rate. Methods: This study uses the thoracic surgery dataset and applies various data preprocessing techniques. The dataset is then used for classification using the Random Forest algorithm and applies the Recursive Feature Elimination feature selection to obtain the best features. GridSearchCV is used in this study for hyperparameter. Result: The accuracy using the Random Forest algorithm and Recursive Feature Elimination feature selection with hyperparameters tuning GridSearchCV resulted in an accuracy of 91,41%. The accuracy was obtained from the following parameters values: bootstrap set to false, criterion set to gini, n_estimator equal to 100, max_depth set to none, min_samples_split equal to 4, min_samples_leaf equal to 1, max_features set to auto, n_jobs set to -1, and verbose set to 2 with 10-fold cross validation. Novelty: This study comparison and analysis of various dataset preprocessing methods and different model configurations are conducted to find the best model for predicting the success rate of thoracic surgery. The study also employs feature selection to choose the best feature to be used in classification process, as well as hyperparameter tuning to achieve optimal accuracy and discover the optimal values for these hyperparameters.

Smart Physiotherapy: Advancing Arm-Based Exercise Classification with PoseNet and Ensemble Models.

Telephysiotherapy has emerged as a vital solution for delivering remote healthcare, particularly in response to global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study seeks to enhance telephysiotherapy by developing a system capable of accurately classifying physiotherapeutic exercises using PoseNet, a state-of-the-art pose estimation model. A dataset was collected from 49 participants (35 males, 14 females) performing seven distinct exercises, with twelve anatomical landmarks then extracted using the Google MediaPipe library. Each landmark was represented by four features, which were used for classification. The core challenge addressed in this research involves ensuring accurate and real-time exercise classification across diverse body morphologies and exercise types. Several tree-based classifiers, including Random Forest, Extra Tree Classifier, XGBoost, LightGBM, and Hist Gradient Boosting, were employed. Furthermore, two novel ensemble models called RandomLightHist Fusion and StackedXLightRF are proposed to enhance classification accuracy. The RandomLightHist Fusion model achieved superior accuracy of 99.6%, demonstrating the system's robustness and effectiveness. This innovation offers a practical solution for providing real-time feedback in telephysiotherapy, with potential to improve patient outcomes through accurate monitoring and assessment of exercise performance.
