Naval Engineers JournalVolume 81, Issue 4 p. 101-110 INTEGRATED LOGISTIC SUPPORT (ILS) IMPLEMENTATION IN THE NAVAL SHIP SYSTEMS COMMAND RICHARD DANGEL, RICHARD DANGEL THE AUTHOR: was born in New York City in 1933, he received his Bachelor's degree from the school of Industrial Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955. He has also completed all course work for a masters in Engineering Administration at George Washington University. Since graduation he has spent 11 years in private industry with companies in the DOD engineering research and development area. His last position before coming to the Navy in 1966 was with the Washington Technological Associates in Rockville, Md., as a Program Manager responsible for engineering development of training weapons, weapon handling equipment, and logistic policy. This position involved engineering direction of project engineers and department managers, budget control and work authorization, negotiation and contract administration. Since joining the Navy in August 1966 he worked as an engineer in the Talos/Terrier weapons installations branch for approximately 6 months. He then joined the LHA Project as an Assurance Engineer on the staff of the Project Manager responsible for the development of requirements, contractor direction and monitoring of the Reliability, Maintainability, System Safety Engineering, Value Engineering, and Quality Assurance Programs throughout the LHA's contract definition phase. In October of 1968 he became head of the Integrated Logistic Support system development section of the Technical Concepts Office.
