Taking urban residents in Shanghai as an example, the residents’ choice of air-conditioning, usage habits, and basic information such as age, family situation, etc. are surveyed by questionnaires. More than 500 residents are questioned randomly, the characteristics like service time, switch status, temperature settings of household air conditioning and so on are analyzed. The results have shown that among the urban residents in Shanghai, air conditionings are mainly used in summer for refrigeration, and more than 90% residents take ventilation into consideration. The average time reported for air conditioning used every day is 3h to 6h or 6h to 10h. The temperature of air conditioning commonly set according to residents’ feelings in summer, usually from 25℃ to 27℃. Based on the residents’ housing characteristics, family members, a typical household air conditioning usage patterns are set up. Building energy consumption is simulated and calculated under different air conditioning usage pattern in DeST software. This study will provide a basis for the calculation and analysis of household air conditioning energy consumption.
