The subject of the "too tall child" has been discussed. Excessively tall stature is overwhelmingly frequently a physiologic variant, but it must be considered in the context of a young preteenager's life-style, goals, and apprehensions. Decisions as to whether intervention will be appropriate often cannot be made until considerable insight has been gained and perceptive inquiry undertaken. In view of the complexity of the problem, expert endocrinologic consultation is often sought in order to assure the most rational and appropriate treatment decisions.
