Analysis and prediction on carbon emissions from electrical and electronic equipment industry in China

This research employs the IPCC methodology to assess carbon emissions from China's Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) industry for 2012–2020, utilizing the GM (1) model to predict emissions for the next decade. Six scenarios evaluate emissions, guiding strategies for reduction. Key findings reveal the usage phase as the highest emitter, while WEEE dismantling incurs the lowest. In 2020, emissions from production, sales, transportation, usage, recycling transportation, dismantling, and recycling were projected. Scrapping imported EEE from 2012 to 2020 results in 1.88 million tons of emissions. Projected 2030 emissions, under current policies or low-carbon measures, are 136 million tons and 72 million tons, respectively. Urgent actions, especially in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and stakeholder roles, are essential. The study advocates for consumer awareness on energy conservation and reducing dependence on imported products. Manufacturing emissions highlight the need for eco-design, emphasizing sustainable practices. Recycling and dismantling phases also contribute emissions, necessitating optimized routes and advanced technologies. In addition, the study explores the potential for carbon reduction by incorporating the organic combination of carbon trading markets, evaluating the carbon emission reduction potential of recycling enterprises. The proposal suggests replacing government subsidies with the sale of carbon credits, not only to stimulate companies to actively promote green dismantling but also to address the current inadequacy of subsidies. Establishing a comprehensive life cycle management system is crucial to minimizing the EEE industry's carbon footprint and promoting a sustainable future.

Does Japanese Manufacturing FDI in ASEAN5 Facilitate Trade?

manufacturing companies, but their expansion slowed in the early 2000s due to the rise of China. However, since the 2010s, amid tensions between Japan and China, as well as between the US and China, the ASEAN region has gained attention as an alternative destination. The paper analyzes the impact of changes in Japanese FDI in the manufacturing sector on trade between Japan and target countries. The analysis focuses on FDI in all 12 sectors of manufacturing in the five major ASEAN countries from 2007 to 2019 and estimates using gravity equations. Given the importance of distance variables in gravity equations, a random effects model is used for estimation. The results indicate that Japanese FDI in the transportation equipment, electronic equipment, and chemical and pharmaceutical industries had a positive correlation with trade with ASEAN5 countries, but no significant results were found in other sectors. Moreover, in transportation equipment and chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the import effect was greater than the export effect. With the Japanese government providing subsidies to manufacturing companies relocating production hubs to ASEAN from 2020 onwards, an increase in trade volume between these countries and Japan is expected in the future.

A Review Study of the Feasibility of Piezoelectric Fan Techniques for Cooling Electronic Components

The electronic equipment industry has developed rapidly in recent years. The amount of heat emitted from such equipment is seriously increased. Increasing the temperature of the electronic devices degrades their performance and as a final result their failure. Therefore, the requirements for an effective cooling system have become more important than ever. One of the most important methods of heat dissipation that the researchers focused on is the use of piezoelectric fans (PE). The current study reviews most of the developments that have taken place since its discovery nearly 40 years ago and focused on reducing power consumption. Most of the improvements and developments have been focused on obtaining optimal designs for these piezoelectric fans, which are used in different applications. This review clarifies the foundations and concepts of designing piezoelectric fans by comparing the data presented in previous studies. Furthermore, in the last ten years, numerical simulation has entered as an effective tool in predicting the optimal design of piezoelectric fans. The design of piezoelectric fans is in two forms, either single or multiple. The single fan system is used within a limited range of applications, as large cooling systems cannot be replaced by it. Therefore, the cooling system consisting of multiple piezoelectric fans is promising as a unique solution to effectively dissipate heat in electronic devices. The percentage of experimental studies is about 32 % while the studies of CFD is about 21 %, and the combined one is about 47 %.

Cross-sectoral production links of Central and Eastern Europe with China after the introduction of the Digital Silk Road China increasingly marks its presence in the global economy through services that enrich traditional manufacturing (servitization of manufacturing). In this article, the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region is analysed in the context of this phenomenon. Because of the ongoing development of the relevant economies, only advanced services were examined, equating these with ICT services. The aim of the article is to assess the share of Chinese ICT services in the industrial production of CEE, in particular in the computer, electronic, and electrical equipment industry after the introduction of the Chinese Digital Silk Road. The study confirms that China is increasingly enriching CEE manufacturing with its services; however, the intensity differs depending on the economy considered.

Sustainability, resilience and innovation in industrial electronics: a case study of internal, supply chain and external complexity

AbstractThe electrical and electronic equipment industry is key to climate and energy transitions, but its activities have a significant environmental footprint. Tangible improvements in the sustainability of this sector are difficult because of the layers of complexity that characterize this industry’s products, processes and supply chains. This article analyzes the different facets of complexity relevant to sustainability in the industrial electronics sector, by implementing an in-depth longitudinal case study of a leading Italian business-to-business multinational company. We identify three core dimensions of complexity management that are pivotal for corporate sustainability: internal complexity, supply chain complexity and external complexity. We find that handling sustainability in complex production systems with multitier and multiproduct value chains presents organizational and managerial challenges but also offers new competitive opportunities for resilience and innovation. Once the appropriate metrics, know-how and information flows are established, our results highlight the transferability of sustainable innovations in these complex environments.

A Study on the Effect of Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Measures on Imports from China and Employment in Korea

Purpose - The number of Korea’s Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) notifications is increasing, and TBT is recognized as a form of trade barrier. Furthermore, Korea is highly dependent on trade, and the proportion of imports from China is large. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of TBT on imports from China and Korea’s employment.
 Design/Methodology/Approach - This study aimed to analyze the impact of TBT in Korea on imports and employment in China. Therefore, TBT and other data from 1995 to 2017 were collected to form panel data. A gravity model was used to analyze the import effect of TBT, and import competition was used to analyze the employment effect. A Hausman test was performed to increase the accuracy of the panel analysis.
 Findings - TBT had no effect on the import of the entire manufacturing industry and of manufacturing intermediate goods. However, as a result of analysis by detailed industry, TBT decreased the imports of electronic parts, electrical equipment, and steel industries. However, TBT had no effect on the plastics industry, and TBT rather increased the imports of the chemical industry. TBT had a positive effect on the number of employees of the manufacturing industry.
 Research Implications - While previous literature conducted in Korea mainly focused on the impact of TBT by trading partners on exports, this study focuses on imports and employment. It is expected to fill gaps in existing studies.

LMDI decomposition analysis of change in energy consumption in the non-energy industrial sector: The Algerian case

The reduction of energy consumption is an important key not only to improving the performance of the Algerian economy but also to contributing to the effective mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. This study provides a decomposition analysis of a set of sub-sectors belonging to the non-energy industry in terms of energy use. The Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) is used to identify the factors affecting the change in energy consumption between 2002 and 2015. It is estimated that the energy consumption of Algeria's non-energy industries has increased from 4904 ktoe in 2002 to 8818 ktoe in 2015. The findings reveal that the increase in energy consumption in Algeria’s non-energy industry was due to the activity effect, whereas the structure and intensity effects contributed to the decrease. The increase in energy consumption due to the activity effect is largest in the construction materials industry. The intensity effect has a significant impact on energy consumption in the iron and steel, mechanical, electronic, and electrical equipment industries. Furthermore, the construction materials industry had a large share of the total change in energy consumption for the entire non-energy industry during 2002–2015, accounting for 136%.

Transforming E-Waste into Opportunities: Driving Organizational Actions to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

With technological advancements, there has been a significant increase in the generation of electronic waste (e-waste), leading to severe environmental consequences. Inadequate e-waste management poses obstacles to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and results in detrimental effects such as pollution, health risks, and resource depletion. Recycling and reusing are vital due to the presence of toxic and valuable elements in e-waste. However, several barriers impede effective management, including limited collection points, insufficient awareness, and inadequate policies. For this reason, this paper aims to propose drivers for developing and improving organizational actions that enhance e-waste management, enabling companies to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. Content analysis was employed as the research method to identify booster elements and systematize e-waste management drivers. Thirty-six booster elements related to SDGs 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, and 17 were identified based on 30 relevant scientific articles from Scopus and 16 sustainability reports from well-ranked companies on the New York Stock Exchange. The systematized drivers encompass recycling and treatment techniques, sustainable manufacturing and consumption, e-waste management technologies, and cooperation networks. The scientific contribution of this work lies in incorporating empirical elements into the literature and enriching the theory of sustainable practices in the electronic equipment industry. In an applied manner, this article contributes to managers who can use the proposed drivers to improve the management of e-waste, thus reducing costs and enhancing the socio-environmental performance of their companies.

The Impact of Corporate Governance on Financial Performance in Aggressive Strategies - A Case Study of 3C Industry of Chinese Listed Companies

This paper selects the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment industry for the study from 2019 to 2021 to explore the impact of corporate governance performance on financial performance in the current period versus the next period under aggressive strategies. They are summarized as five research findings. The first is, good corporate governance performance has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance of both the current and the future. Secondly, the greater the growth of company revenue has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance of the current period, and the more stable the organizational structure of the company has a negative and significant impact on the financial performance of the current period. The joint effect of increasing the number of employees and better corporate governance will have a significant effect on the current year's financial performance; the joint effect of less capital-intensive and better corporate governance also has a positive and significant association with the current year's financial performance. The third is, the increase in the number of employees has a positive and significant effect on the current year's financial performance but does not have a significant effect on the following year's financial performance, however, the more the number of employees and better corporate governance. The forth is, the greater the expansion of the organization, the more it has a significant negative impact on the financial performance of both the current year and the following year, but with good corporate governance, the negative impact can be eliminated in the following year. The fifth is, the smaller the capital intensity, the less it has a significant impact on the financial performance of the current year, but if the capital intensity is small and the corporate governance is good, it has a significant impact on the financial performance of the current year. However, if the capital intensity is small and the corporate governance is good, it has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance of the current year; the smaller the capital intensity, the negative and significant impact on the financial performance of the next year; but if the corporate governance is good, it will turn the negative and significant impact into a positive and significant impact. This paper also makes recommendations based on the findings of the study.

Game theory-oriented approach for disassembly line worker assignment and balancing problem with multi-manned workstations

Multi-manned workstations, where a worker team synchronously executes different operations on the same product, have the potential to increase disassembly line performance. Despite focusing on main objectives such as workload imbalance and worker performance, existing disassembly line balancing studies have not addressed worker satisfaction. This study addresses the disassembly line worker assignment and balancing problem by considering not only multi-manned workstations with heterogeneous workers, but also workers' preference and performance. A novel multi-objective mixed integer linear programming model is formulated with the following objectives: minimizing the number of workers, the number of workstations, workload imbalance, maximizing worker satisfaction, and worker performance. Moreover, this study is proposing heuristics to utilize game theory-oriented approaches in the context of the addressed problem. Some comparative studies were carried out to compare the performance of the proposed heuristics. The effects of the factors were revealed by the statistical analysis conducted on the solutions for newly generated test problems. After the superiority of the proposed heuristics was indicated through comparative studies, they were applied to a washing machine disassembly system in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) industry. The application indicated the performance improvement for the disassembly lead time (65%) and the space requirement (64%) compared to a classical disassembly system design.

Circular economy practices in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) industry: A systematic review and future research agendas

Circular economy is a sustainable economic development model. It replaces the traditional economic development model that relies heavily on resource consumption and waste generation. Circular economy is particularly important to the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry as e-waste contains toxic substances and precious metals. While previous review studies focused on specific aspects of the WEEE industry (e.g., “4R” circular economy strategies), these studies offer little details on how circular economy practices affect the development of the environment and economy in the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry. This study examines “10R” circular economy strategies to advance knowledge of the existing literature that focuses on “4R” circular economy strategies. To improve the methodology used in the previous review studies that apply subjective methods (e.g., content analysis), this paper conducts a systematic literature review on 208 studies and uses citation network analysis to examine specific circular economy practices in the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry. The citation network analysis identified five major research domains (i.e., “e-waste management systems and practices”, “e-waste legislation and its components”, “extended producer responsibility schemes”, “recycling critical materials from e-waste”, “circular economy strategies for the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry”). Based on these results, this study conducts a main path analysis to reveal ten major topics (i.e., e-waste recycling system; exploring untapped e-waste; compliance assurance of stakeholders; e-waste reverse logistics; reward and punishment mechanisms in extended producer responsibility system; verifying the rationality of product classification; recycling critical materials from urban mines; setting a specific target for preparation for reuse; “10R” strategies applied in the smart factory; consumer attitude toward remanufactured/refurbished/repurposed strategies and the resultant products) in the identified research domain. Methylene blue adsorption derived thermal insulating N, S-co-doped TiC/carbon hybrid aerogel for high-efficient absorption-dominant electromagnetic interference shielding

The development of absorption-dominant electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with high-efficiency EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) and low reflection (R) is crucial but challenging for next-generation electronics devices and telecommunication. In this regard, a facile and environmentally friendly approach was proposed to fabricate N, S-co-doped TiC/carbon hybrid aerogels with hierarchically porous architecture through MXene/cellulose hybrid hydrogels as precursors for adsorbing dyes, followed by freeze drying and carbonization process. Profiting from the synergistic effect of highly interconnected three-dimensional (3D) porous structure, heterogeneous conductive network with greatly conductive difference as well as heteroatoms-doping induced dipole polarization, the resultant aerogel with an ultra-low density (47.1 mg/cm3) achieves a highly efficient EMI SE of 84.3 dB at 12.4 GHz (average 81.8 dB in the X-band) and a superior absorption coefficient of 0.68 simultaneously. Meanwhile, the highly porous structure endows the prepared aerogels with outstanding thermal insulating capacity, which is essential to provide infrared stealth and radar stealth for military equipment and to protect sensitive electronic devices from high-temperature attacks. This work offers a prospective strategy for constructing high-performance absorption-dominated EMI shielding materials with excellent thermal insulation properties, and the obtained aerogels present broad application prospects in the fields of aviation, portable electronic equipment and national defense industry.

Analysis on the innovation efficiency of China's electronic and communication equipment industry

The development of electronic and communication equipment industry is the driving force of economic growth, and innovation is the basic motivation for the development of electronic and communication equipment industry. The evaluation of innovation efficiency of electronic and communication equipment industry (IEEC) is conducive to economic growth and better development of electronic and communication equipment manufacturing industry. The existing researches mainly focus on the efficiency evaluation of high-tech industry, and there is few study on the IEEC. To fill the gap, based on DDF model and Global-Malmquist index, this paper estimates the IEEC in 20 provinces of China from 2009 to 2018. The results show that: (1) From the perspective of time dimension, China's IEEC shows an overall growth trend in the past decade from 2009 to 2018. (2) From the regional perspective, IEEC exists differences among regions. Under the meta-frontier and group frontier, the value of IEEC in the central region is higher than the value of IEEC in the eastern region and western region. (3) From the decomposition index, the growth of IEEC depends more on technological progress, rather than efficiency improvement. Combined with the above conclusions, some policy implications are proposed.

Research on the Application of Interaction Design in the Revival of Old Brands

Economic development and technological upgrading have given birth to a revolution in the production industry and affected consumer behaviour and habits. This article focuses on how to find a new direction for the old brands that are fading in the competition. Interaction design technology is gradually prevailing in all walks of life along with changes in network methods and consumer needs. It has unique advantages in improving user experience and optimizing product display. Market survey data shows that 83% of consumers are willing to accept interactive product experiences and think that this form of experience is better; the intelligent electronic equipment industry has already implemented 100% of the industry's interactive experience, and the application rate of tourism industry intensive design Up to 70%. Therefore, this article takes the old brand as the main research object, uses SWOT analysis to analyse the situation of the old brand enterprises, explores the important role of interaction design in the road of the revival of the old brand, further puts forward application suggestions, and promotes the new vitality of the old brand.

A review on recent development of nanofluid utilization in shell & tube heat exchanger for saving of energy

The principal goal of this paper is to provide a generic review of the utilization of nanofluid in shell & tube heat exchangers for energy-saving. Shell & tube heat exchanger is used in many industries like the aviation industry, renewable energy, heating and cooling of electronic equipment, oil and gas industries, automotive industries, thermal power plant, etc because of its smaller area and high heat transfer rate. The utilization of nanofluid in such equipment increases heat transfer rate very rapidly due to better thermophysical properties as compared to other fluids. In this research article, first, a brief introduction of shell & tube heat exchanger is provided after that nanofluid, properties of nanofluid and preparation of nanofluid are presented and then utilization of different nanofluid in shell & tube heat exchanger has been examined. This paper also provides the comparative results of utilization of different nanofluids in shell & tube heat exchangers. Finally, it is found that nanofluids enhance the heat transfer rate, reduces the size of the heat exchanger, and ultimately saving energy.

How do investors in Chinese stock market react to external uncertainty? An event study to the Sino-US disputes

This paper examines the impact of the Sino-US trade and non-trade disputes on Chinese stock market. By employing the event study methodology, we investigate the abnormal returns in Chinese stock market and identify the actions which are in favor of and against bilateral relations between US and China. We find that: (1) The negative actions of the United States and positive actions of China exert significant negative effects on Chinese stock market, while the positive actions of the United States and negative moves of China are opposite. (2) The effects of Sino-US non-trade disputes are similar to that of trade disputes, but the impact of non-trade disputes is statistically significantly greater than that of trade disputes. (3) China's moves incur a greater impact than the United States. We also find that most of the industries affected by the US actions are directly sanctioned by the United States, such as media, computer application and computer and electronic equipment industries, while the industries affected by China's actions are mostly related to people's livelihood such as energy, media, food, beverage and tobacco and utility industries. Our findings are statistically robust and have economic significance for investors to make trading strategies and Chinese policy makers to maintain financial market stability.

Measuring spatial access to the recovery networks for WEEE: An in-depth analysis of the Italian case

The regulation of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) industry is of priority importance in the environmental and circular economy agenda of the EU. Within the EU legislation, the Member States must undertake appropriate policies to increase the amount of waste reintroduced in the supply chain. To this end, as the literature suggests, the design of adequate collection infrastructures and geographical proximity to dedicated facilities, named Collection Centers (CCs), are key factors affecting users' willingness to deliver WEEE. In this work, we propose a systematic approach to evaluate the users’ spatial access to WEEE networks. Specifically, we introduce a dashboard of quantitative indicators to assess the presence of sufficient CCs for the take-back service given the demand in a given area (availability) and at measuring the proximity between consumers and CCs (accessibility). We perform an extensive application to the Italian case, which proves the capability of the proposed indicators to: (i) allow comparative analysis among different areas of the country; (ii) shed light on the impact of spatial dimensions on the amount of collected waste; (iii) support decisions concerning the optimal location of new CCs. In this latter regard, we also discuss, formalize and test possible strategies for expanding the network.

Research on the impact of R&D investment on the international competitiveness of communication and electronic equipment industry in Hubei Province

R&D investment has always been one of the most active factors in the economic development of China’s manufacturing industry. Therefore, this paper analyzes the communication and electronic equipment industry in Hubei Province from all aspects of R&D investment, explores the competitive advantages in the development process of the industry, and looks for the future development direction of the industry in Hubei Province, so as to better complete the transformation and upgrading of the industry. Based on the current international competitiveness evaluation index system, the research on the development status of the communication and electronic equipment industry can be analyzed from the perspective of industrial international competitiveness. The industrial R&D investment is divided into three parts: personnel, capital and efficiency. R&D personnel investment and R&D capital investment have a positive impact on the international competitiveness of the industry, and R&D input-output efficiency has a positive impact on the international competitiveness of the industry There is a slight negative effect. It is pointed out that the future development direction of Hubei electronic technology industry in R&D investment should focus on personnel investment and capital investment.

АНАЛИЗ ТЕКУЩЕЙ СИТУАЦИИ С ПЕРЕРАБОТКОЙ ОТХОДОВ ЭЛЕКТРИЧЕСКОГО И ЭЛЕКТРОННОГО ОБОРУДОВАНИЯ ВО ВЬЕТНАМЕ

Today, in world practice, a rapid increase in the rate of generation of household and industrial waste is noticeable, and Vietnam, as a developing country, this problem is especially tangible. With the development of industry and technology, one of the most problematic industries in terms of waste generation is the electrical and electronic equipment industry. The products of this industry are tightly integrated into all other sectors of human life, whether it is production (refrigeration equipment, machine tools, computers, monitors, communications, etc.) or everyday life (household appliances, mobile phones, game consoles, smart appliances, etc.). This article provides an analysis of the current situation with the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment in Vietnam, and provides recommendations for solving this problem.
