Teaching free improvisation: European higher music education teachers’ conceptual tools

In higher music education (HME) contexts, free improvisation is currently a rapidly evolving field across musical genres. Previous research indicates that teaching and learning improvisation can be challenging, depending on students’ experience and how improvised music-making is facilitated, but few studies address free improvisation in HME. Our study has explored this field by utilising qualitative interviews with teachers of free improvisation in European HME institutions. Results provided insight into teachers’ motivation and the educational aims which informed their approaches to teaching improvisation. Some teachers referred to a canon of free improvised or experimental music and well-known improvisers, interpreted as a need amongst the teachers to position and legitimise a potentially marginalised subject within institutions. Teachers in our study used different types of frameworks to develop students’ ability to interact and listen. Focusing on musical parameters, limitations of choices or language metaphors were often used as tools for acquiring such aims. Results further indicate that free improvisation should be a safe space, enhance democratic values and disrupt hierarchies of knowledge. In sum, our study contributes to mapping and understanding contradictions and complexities of this developing area of pedagogy.

Cultivating a capability for empathy in the Bologna system—the shortcomings of economics and the importance of the civil

Abstract A central aim of the original Bologna Declaration in 1999 was to give the opportunity of advancement in education to every European citizen. According to the Declaration, this goal is worth achieving not simply in order to provide better-qualified workers within the European Union, rather, the aim of higher education within the European Union is understood in a holistic sense as a prerequisite for the composition of a well-functioning European civil society. How can such an ambitious goal be achieved? In this article, we propose that the core capability at stake is that of empathy which, for this reason, should be central to programmes of European higher education. Empathy is not regarded as just a property of specific individuals but as an attribute which must be ascribed to specific forms of civil intercourse. Therefore, what is needed in European higher education is the provision of a social environment for students which allows for civil-cultivation, and for processes of self-cultivation. Self-cultivation, as described here, means more than a refinement of manners; rather, it refers to the development of a civil mode for approaching others: a mode that is sensitive and self-aware at the same time, and which can be regarded as arising out of a shared European heritage interconnecting rhetoric and sociability.

The child's character is closely related to the upbringing received from his caregiver, in other words, good parenting will also have a positive impact on the child and the character of a child is a reflection of the parenting style provide by the caregiver. In order to prevent character deviantion from occurring in children, good caregiver need several methods in farming religius charater children. This reseach aims to analyze the parenting stlye applice by the Aisyiyah Putra Bukittinggi Orphanage in children. This reseach uses qualitative descriptive research which draws from observasi and interviews at the Putra Muhammdiyah Orphane in Bukittinggi. The results of this research show that the Muhammadiyah Putra Bukittinggi. Orpahanage uses the exemplary method, and other methods in inviting people to form worship, education (indriting congration prayers , Providing schedules for congregation prayers and taking tursn in adhan) , Sosial interaction . This method adheres to principles of the Asyiyah Putra Orphanege’s caregiving patters which is based on the Qur’an.

Evaluating the Reliability of YouTube as a Source of Information for Meniscal Ramp Lesions.

Videos uploaded to YouTube do not go through a review process, and therefore, videos related to medial meniscal ramp lesions may have little educational value. To assess the educational quality of YouTube videos regarding ramp lesions of the meniscus. Cross-sectional study. A standard search was performed on the YouTube website using the following terms: "ramp lesion" and "posterior meniscal detachment" and "ramp" and "meniscocapsular" and "meniscotibial detachment," and the top 100 videos based on the number of views were included for analysis. The video duration, publication data, and number of likes and views were retrieved, and the videos were categorized based on video source (health professionals, orthopaedic company, private user), the type of information (anatomy, biomechanics, clinical examination, overview, radiologic, surgical technique), and video content (education, patient support, patient experience/testimony).The content analysis of the information on the videos was evaluated with the use of the DISCERN instrument (score range, 16-80), the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria (score range, 0-4), and the Global Quality Score (GQS; score range, 1-5). A total of 74 videos were included. Of these videos, 70 (94.6%) were published by health professionals, while the remaining 4 (5.4%) were published by orthopaedic companies. Most of the videos were about surgical technique (n = 36; 48.6%) and all had an educational aim (n = 74; 100%). The mean length of the videos was 10.35 ± 17.65 minutes, and the mean online period was 18.64 ± 13.85 months. The mean DISCERN score, JAMA benchmark score, and GQS were 31.84 ± 17.14 (range, 16-72), 1.65 ± 0.87 (range, 1-4), and 2.04 ± 1.21 (range, 1-5), respectively. Videos that reported an overview about ramp lesions were the best in terms of quality for DISCERN and JAMA benchmark score, while biomechanics videos were the best according to GQS. The worst category of videos was about surgical technique, with all having lower scores. The educational content of YouTube regarding medial meniscal ramp lesions showed low quality and validity based on DISCERN score, JAMA benchmark score, and GQS.

Level of pupils´ map skills in Slovakia

The aim of geographical education is to enhance the level of geographical literacy among pupils, enabling them to acquire, comprehend, analyse, and interpret geographic information so they are able to apply it effectively. One approach to improving this literacy level involves utilizing map skills, through which pupils can read, analyse, interpret map content, and even create maps. This research aimed to assess the level of selected map skills among Slovak pupils at the end of lower secondary education (ISCED 2). A self-constructed research tool was used as the research instrument. Analysis of the acquired data revealed an average level of map skills among the pupils. The highest proficiency was observed in tasks focused on utilizing skills associated with map reading. Conversely, the lowest proficiency was found in tasks requiring the application of skills related to map analysis. The data collected suggest that although pupils at the end of lower secondary education possess skills enabling them to obtain necessary information from a map, they encounter challenges in analysing and subsequently interpreting this information.

Designing a Model of Teaching-Learning Culture in Schools

Objective: One of the significant aspects of education is the teaching and learning process. In other words, all educational activities aim to create a suitable environment for the realization of this process. The goal of this study is to design a model of teaching-learning culture in schools. Methodology: From an objective standpoint, this research falls within the category of applied studies. It also follows a qualitative approach and utilizes ethnography as its methodology. The study population includes educational science professors, all administrators, and teachers in the city of Noor. For gathering information on theoretical foundations and literature, a review of books, journals, theses, and other documents available in specialized libraries was conducted. The research tools used were interviews and non-participant observation. Findings: The findings indicate that assessment in Noor's schools is of two types: continuous and final. In most of the public schools, teaching methods are traditional and teacher-centered, whereas in schools for gifted students, they are student-centered, with the teacher playing a supervisory role. The teaching and learning culture in these schools is considered weak. Loss of motivation is one of the influential factors in reducing the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process in Noor. Due to financial issues and resource limitations in schools, facilities are also inadequate. Conclusion: Overall, it can be inferred that current education is not aimed at lasting and standard learning but rather merely at achieving grades.

Challenges and Interventions in the Teaching and Learning Process in Public Secondary Schools in Ilemela Municipality, Mwanza, Tanzania

The study aimed to examine challenges and intervention in teaching and learning process in government schools at Ilemela Municipal, Mwanza Tanzania. Primary aim of education is to enhance both individual and national development by imparting relevant knowledge, fostering positive attitudes, and equipping individuals with the necessary skills to address existing challenges. Through the process teaching and learning process in schools encounter several challenges that impede their progress. The study adopted mixed research approach and convergent parallel research design. About 200 participants out of 2000 target population were included in the study subject matter. Questionnaire and Interview guide were used as instruments in which questionnaire was validated and reliability was checked using split in obtaining 0.8 Correlation coefficients. The data collected through questionnaires were analyzed by researcher using SPSS Version 23 to summarize data, while data gathered through interviews were thematically analyzed. The findings revealed that most of the public secondary schools face in-depth challenges throughout the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, the findings indicated that school feeding programs appear to be essential for enhancing effective teaching and learning, leading to improved academic performance among students. The study recommends that the government should ensure the availability of teaching and learning resources and emphasize the establishment of school feeding programs to enhance students' academic performance.

НАСТАВНИЧЕСТВО В КОНТЕКСТЕ НЕПРЕРЫВНОГО ПРОФЕССИОНАЛЬНОГО РАЗВИТИЯ

The issue of continuous professional development was put on the agenda of the global academic community nearly half a century ago though the saying “live and learn” goes back to ancient times. A fundamental change in the approach towards the precept of our ancestry is the fact that now the party interested in the continuous education of an individual turned out to be not just the individual but his/her employer and nation. And the focus of their interests in the implementation of continuous education aims at the retention and increase of human capital- national economy, its key sectors, separate business entities, and at strengthening and enhancement of their competitive power on global markets. The present article projects the above focus on continuous professional education of teaching staff. It shows that their traditional discrete-in-time professional development often sporadic, spontaneous and not connected by a single channel does not meet any longer the challenges of knowledge economies being shaped in the world in developed and developing nations. The article also justifies in real practice the efficiency of informal continuous education with its rich instrumentation, variability and adaptability to the needs of each separate employer and each separate teacher.

Project Based Learning (PJBL) Learning Model on Creativity of Practical Learning Outcomes in Vocational Schools: Meta Analysis Study

The aim of education is to increase the effective and efficient values ​​of both teachers and students. Curriculum renewal is needed to develop learning models that are maximally effective and efficient for students to achieve optimal learning outcomes. The Project Based Learning learning model is an innovative learning model that refers to student skills through complex learning activities so that it can encourage student creativity to improve learning outcomes. However, based on the results of field analysis in several practical subjects, it was found that there were obstacles or barriers to being able to implement the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model. This research using analytical studies looks at the effects obtained when implementing the Project Based Learning learning model. The conclusion from this meta-analysis study is that there is quite a significant influence that the Project Based Learning learning model has on student creativity in vocational high schools and has not had a significant effect on elementary schools. This means that the Project Based Learning learning model only has a significant effect on secondary school students who have good spatial abilities.

The Concept of an Independent Curriculum According to Progressivism Theory

Education is the process of developing foundational skills that are essential for both mental and emotional intelligence. Teachers are currently facing challenges in implementing the curriculum for autonomous learning. The application of progressivism ideology to the concept of an independent learning curriculum is one possible answer to this problem. This study aims to investigate curricula for independent learning from a progressivist perspective. The library research method, which employs a philosophical hermeneutic approach and includes elements of description, interpretation, and comparison through reference studies related to the problem's theme, is the technique employed in this qualitative study in order to gain a thorough understanding of the findings. Content analysis is the method employed to examine and discover support for the notion demonstrating how the curriculum idea is separate from progressivism's philosophical tenets. A number of learning principles are extensively emphasized by progressivism, including: 1) the idea that students should be at the center of the educational process from the beginning to the conclusion; 2) Students act as engaged members of society; 3) the role of the instructor as a facilitator, offering guidance and instructions; 4) educational establishments aim to create a cooperative and democratic environment; and 5) students need to concentrate on problem solving rather than merely learning material. In opposition to progressivism's philosophical tenets, the Free Learning Curriculum aims to enhance Indonesia's human resource base, particularly during the industrial revolution 4.0.

Pendidikan Politik Santri Dipondok Pesantren Jabal Rahmah Anau Kadok Talang

This research is motivated by the importance of political education among students (santri) of the Jabal Rahmah Anau Kadok Talang Islamic Boarding School. The aim of political education at this boarding school is to shape the character of the students, enabling them to become citizens with ethical and polite political behavior, as well as a deep understanding of political issues. Although there is no specific curriculum for teaching political education, it is integrated through subjects such as Civic Education (PPKN), the activities of the Student Executive Board (BES), discussions, democratic culture practices, and the study of the Prophet's biography (Siroh Nabawiyah). This research employs a qualitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews. The objective is to analyze how political education at the Jabal Rahmah Islamic Boarding School shapes the political perspectives and thought patterns of the students, as well as the role of the school leaders in forming the students' political understanding. The research findings indicate that political education at this boarding school focuses on knowledge transfer, consciousness-raising, political identity, and organizational skills development. Through democratic spaces within the Student Council (OSIS) and lectures, the students acquire an understanding of positive political values. The students are also engaged in organizational activities that allow them to develop leadership skills. The political education at this boarding school successfully shapes good behavior, teaches ethical and wise political conduct, and equips the students to respond to political issues. The conclusion drawn from this research is that political education at the Jabal Rahmah Islamic Boarding School effectively molds the character and political understanding of the students. By employing an approach that involves various aspects of knowledge, orientation, behavior, and political action, the political education at this boarding school is capable of producing students who are aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens, possess political ethics, and can approach political issues wisely. This research provides fresh insights into how political education can shape the character and political perspectives of students, and have an impact on their involvement in political and social life in Indonesia..

Description of the methodology for developing and validating the WHO’s family planning and comprehensive abortion care competencies for the primary health care workforce

A qualified health workforce is essential to receiving effective, timely, affordable, equitable and respectful family planning and comprehensive abortion care. However, in many countries, health workers lack the competencies required to deliver quality family planning and comprehensive abortion care services. Competency-based education and learning aims to train and assess competencies. The theory-supported approach focuses on outcomes, emphasizes the learner’s ability to perform, promotes learner-centeredness and links the health needs of the population to the competencies required of health workers. In 2011, the World Health Organization published a guidance document, Sexual and reproductive health - Core competencies in primary care, defining the competencies that primary care providers need to safely deliver sexual and reproductive health services at the community level and included family planning and comprehensive abortion care.In this article, we describe the methodology and process undertaken in 2020, by the World Health Organization to produce the family planning and comprehensive abortion care competencies guidance, filling gaps identified in the previous guidance document. The World Health Organization’s Family Planning and Comprehensive Abortion Care toolkit for the primary health care workforce was published in 2022 and defines the key competencies for health workers in primary health care providing quality family planning and comprehensive abortion care services, as well as support for developing programmes and curricula for education and lifelong learning. The Toolkit is useful for practitioners, managers/supervisors and employers, educators, regulatory bodies, and policymakers. It is an important advance toward strengthening family planning and comprehensive abortion care services in primary health care.

Exploring Early Childhood Teachers' Beliefs and Practice on Sexual Education

It is known how important sexual education is in the preschool period. Teachers play a key role in this process. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the views and practices of pre-school teachers about sexual education. The participants of the study, which was designed as a qualitative case study, consisted of 8 female preschool teachers working with pre-school children for 36-72 months. Observation and interview techniques were used to collect data. The data obtained were analyzed in depth with descriptive analysis and evaluated under 7 themes. As a result of the research, it was determined that preschool teachers were partially sufficient in terms of their knowledge about sexual education, the aims of sexual education, and the skills aimed to be gained. It was determined that they applied sexual education in daily life skills rather than the scope of the course. However, it was determined that the teachers of the 3-year-old group had little knowledge about sexual education. In line with these results, suggestions were made that pre-school teachers and our country's parents should be trained in childhood sexual education and that sexual education teacher activity booklets should be created to include more activities related to sexual education.

Enhancing Analytical Thinking Skills and Scientific Attitudes of Prospective Science Teacher Students through Pre-Practicum Virtual Simulation

Analytical thinking skills are important for science pre-service teachers to achieve the professional competence of science educators. The aim of national education mandates the formation of a complete human being through the development of character and attitudes in the learning process, including a scientific attitude. Data shows that students' analytical thinking skills are still below standard and scientific attitudes have not been sufficiently trained in learning. The purpose of this research is to describe the analytical thinking skills and scientific attitude of prospective science teacher students through pre-practicum virtual simulation. The research design was a post-test-only control group design with a sample of 55 prospective science teacher students. The data was taken using an analytical thinking ability test and a scientific attitude questionnaire. The instruments used are worksheets and web-based simulations. The experimental class conducted a pre-practicum virtual simulation before the field practicum. The results of the Wilcoxon test were <0,05 showing differences in students’ analytical thinking skills through practicum and pre-practicum virtual simulation learning. The highest score of the analytical thinking skills indicator is ‘organizing’ namely 71,0 in the experimental class. Scientific attitude with the highest indicator is curiosity in the experiment and control class with percentages of 97% and 88% respectively. Overall, both analytical thinking skills and scientific attitude are enhanced through virtual simulation pre-practicum.

Rethinking Student-Center Learning Approach in Indonesia's Islamic Higher Education Curriculum: A Systematic Literature Review

When developing a curriculum for Islamic higher education, it is necessary to consider a student-centered learning and emphasize pedagogical principles in Islamic education. This study aims to find out what things need to be considered when designing the curriculum and how student-centered learning is implemented in Indonesia’s Islamic higher education curriculum. The method used is a systematic literature review. This study finds that the aspects that need to be considered in designing a student-centered approach in a curriculum that is in accordance with Islamic pedagogical principles include the storytelling pedagogical method, the method of the critical dialogue, the teacher's demonstration, homework assignments, reflection and inquiry discussion methods, the question-and-answer approach, and field studies. Meanwhile, theoretically, the curriculum applied in Indonesia is relevant to the aims of Islamic education in terms of components of the learning process and the outcomes of student-centered. REINFORCEMENT OF CHARACTER VALUES IN SOCIAL SCIENCE EDUCATION AT MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH MATHLA™UL ANWAR PONTIANAK

The purpose of this research is to describe what strengthening character values looks like in Mathla'ul Anwar Pontianak-based social studies education. It is hoped that this description of the educational pattern carried out at the Mathla'ul Anwar Islamic Boarding School can contribute to a learning model that can strengthen the character values of students. This research uses a case study method using data collection techniques as a guide to observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis was carried out qualitatively based on data found through observations, interviews, and collected documents. The results of this research show that the education pattern carried out by Pesantren Pondok is quite progressive in strengthening character values. During routine recitation activities, ustadz and ustadzah highlight the latest themes in the community. Islamic boarding schools make strict rules in an effort to instill discipline and religious values, but they do not exclude modern elements. When students have good character, social intelligence is created in them so that when they enter society, they still have morals and social insight because they have social intelligence. Mathla'ul Anwar Islamic Boarding School is an Islamic educational institution in Indonesia that is widely known and has an important role in Islamic education. Like other Islamic boarding schools, Mathla'ul Anwar also emphasizes the importance of strengthening character values in the education of his students. Good character values provide a basis for decision-making. Santri who have grown up with values such as justice, sincerity, and responsibility will be more likely to make wise and responsible decisions. The aim of this character education is to form students who not only have good religious knowledge but also have noble personalities, commendable morals, and are able to contribute positively to society. By having good character and implementing positive values in their daily lives, students can create an environment that is harmonious, supports each other, and allows them to develop holistically.
