DICTIONARIES OF EDUCATION TERMS AS A MEANS OF REFLECTION EDUCATIONAL REFORMS

Dictionaries of education terms are analyzed as a means of reflecting modern educational reforms, which are certified by legislative and regulatory documents. The prerequisites for the creation of the latest lexicographic publications are considered. Features of modern dictionaries of education terms are outlined as a significant source of fixation, systematization, unification and codification of new terms and concepts in the field of education. The latest dictionaries designed to guide educators in the understanding and correct use of special words were analyzed, namely: “National Educational and Scientific Glossary” (2018), “Dictionary-handbook of vocabulary in the field of education: national-European identity” (2018), “Dictionary of terms and concepts of modern education” (2020), “New Ukrainian school: dictionary of terms and concepts” (2022), “Dictionary of the latest educational terms and concepts” (2021) and “Explanatory dictionary of educational terms” (2022). The signs of the uniqueness of these dictionaries and the expediency of using them in the process of improving the professional and terminological competence of educators, increasing their professional, general cultural level and pedagogical skill are highlighted. Unique examples of dictionary articles are presented, which contain definitions of relevant terms of the educational and scientific domestic and world space, definitions of concepts that were first recorded by the compilers, as well as illustrative material, the source base of which is the texts of public and political, educational and student media. The reason for the appearance of new educational terms and concepts is substantiated, and extralinguistic factors influencing the renewal of the semantics of established term lexemes are established. SUBSTANTIATION OF THE IMPACT OF SOCIO-CULTURAL FACTORS ON THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The article examines the theoretical and applied foundations of the impact of socio-cultural factors on the modern business environment under the influence of external and internal factors. The article shows the two-aspect relationship between the macroeconomic and microeconomic environments in the context of taking into account the socio-cultural impact on them. Based on the analysis of approaches to the concept and structure of the socio-cultural component of a business entity, the author offers her own vision of its main elements: organizational (corporate) and managerial culture; motivation; communication; diversity, equality and inclusiveness (DEI). Accordingly, the main directions of research on the socio-cultural factors of the business environment are highlighted and ways of their implementation in the domestic space are proposed. The least researched in Ukrainian science and domestic practice are issues related to the formation of a managerial culture that takes into account diversity, equality and inclusiveness. The necessity of an in-depth study of motivation and communication as important socio-cultural factors is substantiated. This is primarily due to the change in priorities during the military aggression of the rf in favor of the needs for protection, psychological, physical and mental health, opportunities for professional and personal self-realization, etc. Communication processes in a business environment are designed to focus on an individualistic approach to each employee with an appropriate reward system based on their needs and motivations. The socio-cultural factors proposed by us in their interaction most fully correspond to the current global and domestic trends in the functioning of the business environment on the basis of adaptation and innovation management. In the context of searching for ways of post-war recovery of Ukraine and its sustainable development in the system of global partnership, the need to form a professional management system capable of managing the socio-cultural component of an enterprise to increase its success and competitiveness is actualized. Priorities for further research and ways to introduce socio-cultural factors into the domestic business environment are substantiated. The author proves the necessity of improving the management of an economic entity on the basis of formation of a professional management system, in which an employee is considered as a personality and the highest value capable of self-realization, quality of teamwork, and ensuring the competitive advantages of an enterprise in the real business environment.

Households in Transition: Persistence and Change of Dwellings in the City of Old Dongola (Sudan, 14th–17th Century)

The period between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries in Old Dongola, Sudan, marks a significant political and religious transition. The Makurian kingdom collapsed, and in the sixteenth century, the city became subordinate to the Funj Sultanate. Simultaneously, domestic architecture exhibited a high level of uniformity, with urban space dominated by two-room houses clustered in compounds with a shared courtyard. In these transformative conditions, the seeming persistence of household requires explanation. This paper examines residues of human actions, applying a multielemental analysis of domestic floors of four house compounds dated from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. It allowed us to understand domestic space in intensive terms, as created by everyday domestic activities. The analysis of macro- and micro-residues resulted in the identification of various ways particular households engaged with domestic space. In this study, the role of heterogeneous domestic space played in the persistence and changeability of households was discussed, particularly how the striated residential units coded relations of dwellers, while the smooth open spaces had creative potential. Lastly, it is proposed that the temporality of households did not align with the temporality of the political changes in the city.

‘Mike, Bob, Bill, Jim, Thom’: queer communal life and poetic form in Thom Gunn’s ‘Jack Straw’s Castle’

ABSTRACT This article establishes a relationship between Thom Gunn’s experience of queer domestic space and his use of poetic form through a close analysis of ‘Jack Straw’s Castle’. Drawing on queer historical scholarship, I outline the context of queer communal dwelling in the United States that led to Gunn’s Cole Street residence. Through a close reading of his letters, I set out the ways in which Gunn was invested in remodelling the heteronormative household model. Drawing on literary spatial theorists such as Bachelard, I argue that the form of ‘Jack Straw’s Castle’ is answerable to the domestic space in which it was written. I conclude that the poem formally absorbs and refracts the queerness of the mode of dwelling that engendered it.

Resisting and transgressing cisheteronormativity at home: LGBT+ youths’ active strategies

Many of the struggles and advances in LGBT+ rights are fought in domestic spaces. However, the political and emotional complexity of the home in relation to gender and sexual dissidence has received limited attention. This research aims to explore the discrimination and coping strategies of young LGBT+ youth in their family and personal home. Through a qualitative methodology, I examine how 27 LGBT+ youth from Bages (Catalonia) experience different home spaces according to their age, gender, and sexual orientation. The results show adultism and pressure to conform to cisheteronormative expectations at the family home. However, these norms dissolve in the personal home, allowing the free development of their LGBT+ identities. The study reveals the resistance and transformation strategies they use to tackle cisheteronormativity, highlighting home as a place of politics, negotiation, power, and complex emotions.

Boxed In: Pandemic TV as Intersectional Renegotiation of Feminist Attitudes Toward the Home

In pandemic TV, the horror of the home was not only part of the narrative in several shows that depicted pandemic-related plots, but also a result of the tension between the textual and the contextual. As people were feeling trapped indoors, even the most colorful televised living room stood as a symbol of the inability to leave the spatial confines of domesticity. In this paper, I show how pandemic television added an ominous layer to the representation of the home, either directly through narrative means or indirectly through text-versus-meaning dissonance. Intersectionalizing feminist analysis of the domestic space, I argue that texts that attempted to sidestep pandemic-related content often emphasized it even more so, through format and framing, therefore negating the escapism they were trying to achieve.

Imperfections for the calculation of steel structures by the finite element method. Part 1

It is well known that imperfections are always present in structural elements. Imperfections can significantly affect the behavior and bearing capacity of steel structures, especially in the case of stability-related tasks. Therefore, inconsistencies must be taken into account in the loadbearing capacity model and their correct application (setting the shape and value) is a key point in the numerical analysis process. In recent decades, much attention has been paid in the domestic scientific space to updating imperfection models for use in numerical models, including taking into account modern more accurate manufacturing and installation technologies for steel structures. The purpose of this study is an analytical review and analysis of scientific research and technical literature, followed by synthesis and elaboration of recommendations on imperfections in relation to the calculation of steel structures using computer modeling technology, including the finite element method. The results of the study contain instructions on how to set the shapes and values of imperfections for different groups of imperfections. The article consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to the study of geometric imperfections, residual stresses and rules for the combination of imperfections, the second part of the article is devoted to equivalent imperfections.

Strategi Keluarga Burhanudin Mohamad Diah Dalam Memperkuat Solidaritas Keluarga Di Negara Sosialis, 1959-1962

This article discusses the strategy of Burhanuddin Mohamad Diah's family as an ambassador's family in strengthening family solidarity when assigned to two socialist countries, namely Czechoslovakia and Hungary from 1959 to 1962. This article analyzes why family solidarity became so important for their lives in diplomatic posts, the channels and media used to strengthen this solidarity, and the role of women in it. This article was carried out using historical research methods which utilize various primary sources, ranging from ego documents, contemporary publications, oral history, to a number of official archives. This article reveals that family solidarity at diplomatic posts was part of the comfort conditions for the B. M. Diah family. This is due to two factors, namely historical factors and family psychological factors. To build and strengthen family solidarity, the B. M. Diah’s family used a number of channels, spaces, and media, including the family's domestic space, arts, sports, and tourism. This article also reveals that the presence of family solidarity issues has encouraged the emergence of women's agency and activism in the B. M. Diah family. To be precise, B. M. Diah’s wife, Herawati Diah, was present as a driving force, leader, and decision maker in the family in order to strengthen their internal solidarity.

This paper proposes a change in the conceptualisation of home, as part of a wider paradigmatic transformation in the understandings of the boundaries between humans and animals, and nature and culture. A new concept of multispecies homescapes is suggested, building on recent work on human–animal relationships as well as writings on the home in human geography. Multispecies homescapes are approached as imaginary spaces, including experiences of sharing home with other species, the limits and liminalities of homeness, and the loss of a multispecies home. Imagining home as multispecies will widen the scope of research beyond anthropocentric understandings of domestic space.

Experimental parametric evaluation of adsorption characteristics for silica gel - water based open-bed system for seasonal thermal energy storage

This study aims to investigate the potential of using commercial silica gel as an energy storage material in a bulk-scale open bed adsorption-based system to achieve efficient domestic heating using renewable energy sources. Designing an efficient thermal energy storage (TES) system for practical use requires understanding of the sorption properties of the adsorbent and the effects of different operating and physical parameters on the sorption process. One critical parameter that significantly affects the energy storage density when scaling up from a laboratory to a prototype system is the amount of adsorbent in the reactor. Surprisingly, this aspect has been overlooked in previous studies. To address this research gap, a laboratory-scale test rig was designed and constructed. This rig enables the evaluation of the effects of different operating parameters (such as relative humidity, flow rate, and regeneration temperature) and physical parameters (such as the quantity of adsorbent and particle diameter) on the energy storage density of silica gel and the temperature lift in the process. The water adsorption capacity of the silica gel was measured in-house to assist in future theoretical modelling of a prototype TES system. Optimum operating conditions were determined for the system, with a relative humidity of 80 %, an air flow rate of 100 L/min, and material regeneration at 120 °C. The system's performance in terms of material energy storage density and maximum temperature lift was observed for varying amounts of adsorbent, particle diameter, and regeneration temperature at these optimal operating conditions. Finally, the required storage volume to meet domestic space heating demands was estimated based on optimal discharging conditions and compared to other experimental and theoretical studies involving silica gel-based energy storage systems.

Changes to Domestic Spaces and Home-Based Business in Ho Chi Minh City: A Case Study of Nguyen Thien Thuat Apartment Blocks

This article examines the impact of home-based business on spatial changes and architectural transformation in old apartment buildings, locally called Chung Cu, an under-studied housing typology in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). This article elucidates how looking into local ideas and practices of domestic spaces with home-based businesses can broaden existing scholarship on home culture. The term ‘home-based business’ is used in this article to describe commercial and business activities run by local residents in their homes. This article analyzed and presented first-hand data in both textual and visual forms and suggests that given the historical and social changes, particularly since the 1960s, the resilience, and persistence of home-based business, as a constituent of local life in HCMC, have significantly contributed to the making and transformation of domestic spaces in the city.

Child Marriage In Niger: New Insights on Mental, Psychological and Other Indicators

This research paper discusses one of the most prevalent issue of Child Marriage in Niger and concretely analyses if there were any societal norms and expectations associated with child marriage. It further examines the various forms of violence in domestic spaces across different regions of Niger and most importantly, provides a detailed study of the impact of mental health on child marriage. These aspects were studied by using quantitative and qualitative measures mostly using an interview method and secondary sources. The secondary sources included various files, documents, articles and previous research done on certain aspects of child marriage. It was found in the research that the societal norms played a crucial role in early marriage, they strongly believed in the ideals of upholding family honor and securing an honorable position in the society. Further, sexual and economic violence secured the highest rates of abuse and it was associated with lack of awareness and poor economic status in the society respectively. When analyzed about mental health, it was seen that anxiety, depression and a poor psychological well being had a positive correlation with the age of marriage. To conclude, despite certain limitations that this paper poses, it calls for effective working and implementation of policies and programmes by international organizations - calling for an end to early marriage in Niger.

Enabling free movement but restricting domestic policy space? The price of mutual recognition

AbstractFree movement of goods within the EU is guaranteed via mutual recognition: any product lawfully produced in one member state must also be accepted in all other member states. While unleashing economic benefits from trade without regulatory barriers, mutual recognition potentially limits member states' ability to address societal concerns with regard to production conditions. This hypothesis is addressed via the case of farm animal welfare in Germany, combining a thorough policy analysis with 20 elite interviews. The results demonstrate how the discourse of inner‐European competition has discouraged policymakers to adopt stricter legislation over the past three decades, exemplifying the impeding effect of mutual recognition on member states' policies. Understanding these mechanisms is vital for handling regulatory diversity within integrated markets and offers insights into similar policy areas. This research contributes to the broader issue of national sustainability standards in a globalized world, where collective preferences increasingly collide with economic goals.

Alienation, Ferocity, and Rhetoric of Confusion in Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party

Printer’s ‘The Birthday Party’ has received considerable recognition among literary critics over the last decade. This is mostly due to the fact that Pinter abandons the traditional portrayal of characters. Many critics, however, scarcely paid attention to the significance of the characters’ linguistic style, particularly, the extent the players’ rhetoric is used as a means for confusion and manipulation. As this research explains, Printer’s play exposes the ferocious and confusing functions of language beyond its normal function as a means of productive communication. To do so, the research concisely analyses the rhetorical style of the two main antagonists in The Birthday Party as they try to control and manipulate the main protagonist linguistically. The play also, as the research explains, reveals the link between the lack of communication among characters in a domestic space and the development of a sense of loss and alienation by the main protagonist.

Decreasing the Return Temperature in District Heating Networks Thanks to a Switch to Alternative Substation Architectures

District heating networks (DHN) are key systems for managing heating and reducing carbon emissions at a large scale. Therefore, increasing their efficiency is a key to reduce climate change. DHNs with centralized production are supplying hot water to building substations (interface between the DHN and the buildings) for domestic hot water (DHW) production and space heating (SH) using heat exchangers. Colder water is returned to the centralized district heating system by the return pipe. One of the crucial factors to improve the efficiency of DHNs is to decrease the return temperature in the network to keep the same amount of energy transferred to the buildings while reducing the thermal losses and the flow rate, leading to more savings. In this paper, we model and simulate two of the most common DHN substation architectures used in a typical third-generation DHN to identify their flaws and propose new district heating substation architectures that can increase the DHN efficiency. The main result from our study is the consistent reduction in the average return temperature across all scenarios when implementing our proposed architectures. The reduction ranged between 3.7 °C and 10.2 °C. We also found that the lower the heating temperature, the greater the reduction. This is particularly beneficial as buildings are increasingly equipped with low-temperature heating systems, especially new constructions. Moreover, these architectures showed optimal efficiency with new buildings that have a high water heating demand compared to heating demand. This is due to the higher impact of cold water preheating.

The Cultural Construction of the Domestic Space in France: Women’s Lived Experience and the Materialization of Customs

This article explores the intersecting processes of construction of the home, social, and individual identities through domestic practices inside French housing. It examines the design and occupation of French homes as crucial moments for the consolidation of subjectivities, beliefs, and ideologies manifested through daily actions that are influenced by normative cultural systems. In specific, it looks at codified domestic behaviours and their aesthetic dimension, focusing on how the French “art of living” has influenced taste, design, appropriation, and decoration of domestic interiors. Architectural treatises along with etiquette manuals are analysed as they both represent—through the written word and architectural drawings—cultural and gender stereotypes as well as societal norms and expectations that inform housing design and domestic practices. These documents directly assist in the cultural construction of the domestic space, uncovering mechanisms of reproduction and representation that inform the use and design of residential architecture. By focusing on women’s lived experiences, this research looks at the consolidation of feminine domestic cultures and how they fostered small-scale physical transformations of dwellings’ interiors through daily negotiations that define self-identity and interpersonal power relations. These dynamics are referred to as “cultural domesticity.” The latter frames this study along with feminist literature, situating women’s contribution to the aesthetic and spatial development of French apartments. What emerges from this study is that the French state historically exercised a regulatory power that impacted daily life and housing design.

NaI as suitable alkali halide hydrate for domestic thermochemical heat storage

The limits and potentials of alkali (Li - Cs) halides (F - I) as salt hydrate-based thermochemical heat storage materials are studied. Most alkali halides are found unsuitable, and only the hydrates of sodium iodide (NaI) and sodium bromide (NaBr) were investigated experimentally. We confirmed that both have high energy densities of 1.5 GJ/m3 and 1.6 GJ/m3 respectively, based on the crystal structures of the dihydrate phases. NaI demonstrated full cyclic stability at water vapor pressures of 12 and 14.5 mbar, but NaBr did not show rehydration at these conditions. Therefore, NaBr was deemed unsuitable for domestic applications. For the NaI – H2O system, we have measured the p,T equilibrium line between the hydration states and constructed p,T and T,x – phase diagrams. This showed that the hydration temperature is 42 °C for 12 mbar water vapor pressure which is enough for domestic space heating. Additionally, the phase diagrams revealed an incongruent melting point where the NaI·2H2O is in equilibrium with the anhydrate and a saturated aqueous NaI solution. This melting can overlap with dehydration and thereby hinders the cyclability, since in the melting process part of the salt is dissolved which blocks the pores formed during dehydration. Therefore, the performance of NaI can be improved by ensuring dehydration is completed below the incongruent melting point of 68 °C. We also found that pre-cycling can prevent deliquescence which is expected to occur at 25 °C and 12 mbar. Overall, NaI could be a candidate for low temperature heat storage.
