Usability and Challenges of Cloud Storage: Perspectives of Academic Staff at Mzumbe University, Tanzania

This study aimed to explore the perspectives, preferences and challenges of Mzumbe University faculty regarding cloud storage adoption. Utilizing a case study design, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of 15 faculty members to capture diverse viewpoints. The study used the thematic analysis approach to analyse the data retrieved from interviews. Based on the findings, the study concluded that cloud storage systems have several advantages, such as easily accessibility features, robust security protocols, service compatibility and intuitive user interfaces. These benefits encourage academic personnel to collaborate and increase productivity. However, some challenges existed. These related with internet access, cost, lack of formal training and security. The study recommends that enhancing the university internet infrastructure is critical to guaranteeing reliability and fast connectivity for effective utilization of cloud storage. The university may also thing of offering financial assistance for supplementary storage requirements to academic staff.

Diverse viewpoints on tactical urbanism in vacant lots: a collaborative design with young planner candidates in Türkiye

ABSTRACT Urban design and planning require collaborative processes that integrate diverse user perspectives. Tactical urbanism involves small, temporary interventions in public spaces to meet daily needs through the collaboration of various stakeholders. This paper aims to foster tactical urbanism in vacant lots, emphasising the significance of incorporating diverse perspectives. The study, based on participatory action research, discusses the individual viewpoints of young city planner candidates assuming diverse roles across three themes: belonging, aesthetics, and usefulness, and to evaluate the results of two-method exercises applied in the Karşıyaka case study in İzmir. Participants, consisting of students from various universities in Türkiye, expressed their individual opinions and collective viewpoints through the techniques of photovoice and six thinking hats, respectively. Comparing two methods for evaluating vacant lots within three themes of tactical urbanism demonstrated that the photovoice technique enabled students to search for meanings of spaces and express their thoughts through photos. Meanwhile, the six thinking hats technique facilitated empathy towards diverse perspectives. The findings underscore the essentiality of adopting a holistic approach to urban design that encompasses aesthetics, functionality, and inclusivity, integrating diverse opinions. Young planner candidates in this study acknowledged the importance of collaboration and diverse perspectives in urban design and planning.

Integrating frontiers: a holistic, quantum and evolutionary approach to conquering cancer through systems biology and multidisciplinary synergy.

Cancer therapy is facing increasingly significant challenges, marked by a wide range of techniques and research efforts centered around somatic mutations, precision oncology, and the vast amount of big data. Despite this abundance of information, the quest to cure cancer often seems more elusive, with the "war on cancer" yet to deliver a definitive victory. A particularly pressing issue is the development of tumor treatment resistance, highlighting the urgent need for innovative approaches. Evolutionary, Quantum Biology and System Biology offer a promising framework for advancing experimental cancer research. By integrating theoretical studies, translational methods, and flexible multidisciplinary clinical research, there's potential to enhance current treatment strategies and improve outcomes for cancer patients. Establishing stronger links between evolutionary, quantum, entropy and chaos principles and oncology could lead to more effective treatments that leverage an understanding of the tumor's evolutionary dynamics, paving the way for novel methods to control and mitigate cancer. Achieving these objectives necessitates a commitment to multidisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration at the heart of both research and clinical endeavors in oncology. This entails dismantling silos between disciplines, encouraging open communication and data sharing, and integrating diverse viewpoints and expertise from the outset of research projects. Being receptive to new scientific discoveries and responsive to how patients react to treatments is also crucial. Such strategies are key to keeping the field of oncology at the forefront of effective cancer management, ensuring patients receive the most personalized and effective care. Ultimately, this approach aims to push the boundaries of cancer understanding, treating it as a manageable chronic condition, aiming to extend life expectancy and enhance patient quality of life.

In the field of social anthropology, the concept of tolerance plays a pivotal role in understanding the interactions of human societies. Tolerance, which is the acceptance and respect for different beliefs, practices, and opinions, is not only a moral virtue but also an important element of social cohesion. This article highlights the understanding of the importance of tolerance in an anthropological context, and its role in strengthening social bonds from a social anthropological perspective. Tolerance in the field of social anthropology includes the acceptance and respect for cultural diversity and individual differences. It is a fundamental concept that has evolved over time in human societies. Throughout history, many civilizations have struggled with the concept of tolerance, and these civilizations were often shaped by social norms and cultural practices. Tolerance was an integral part of societal values that prioritized harmony and cooperation among their members. This historical perspective highlights the fundamental relationship between tolerance and social cohesion and emphasizes the role of cultural norms in shaping attitudes toward diversity. Tolerance works to promote social cohesion by strengthening understanding and acceptance of diverse viewpoints. When individuals embrace tolerance, they are more likely to engage in constructive dialogue and break down communication barriers with others who hold opposing beliefs. Fostering Intellectual Competence through Dialogic Learning in Islamic Boarding Schools

This qualitative case study investigates the development of intellectual competence through dialogic learning at an Islamic boarding school. Employing participatory observation, the study explores the process of fostering intellectual competence through discussions within and outside formal learning activities, encouraging critical thinking towards diverse viewpoints, promoting confident expression grounded in literature, and active participation in scientific competitions. Results demonstrate that dialogic learning enhances students' critical thinking skills and encourages active engagement in scholarly pursuits, both locally and nationally. This research underscores the significance of dialogic pedagogy in nurturing intellectual competence within Islamic educational contexts, offering implications for fostering critical thinking and scholarly engagement in diverse educational settings. Different diversities: Policies and practices at three European public service VoD services

While globally operating SVoDs have discovered identity-based diversity as a branding strategy, diversity has a longer history and broader meaning in public service media (PSM) tied to the foundational ideals of universality and pluralism that oblige PSM to speak to all members of a society and to offer diverse programmes and viewpoints. We investigate: How are these two understandings of ‘diversity’ expressed 1) in legal and policy requirements to the PSM, 2) in strategy papers and audits issued by PSM, 3) in the presentation and exposure of content in VoD interfaces? And 4) How can PSMs' practice around diversity on VoD be tracked methodologically? The article examines these questions by comparing: BBC iPlayer (UK), DRTV (Denmark) and ARD Mediathek (Germany). A document analysis examines how legal remits and strategies governing these institutions talk about diversity. We analyse the presentation and exposure of ‘diversity’ in VoD content via longitudinal datasets that document the three VoD landing pages daily between early 2022 and late 2023, recording the position of every programme title at the VoDs’ front pages, as well as deck titles. We test four approaches to this dataset: Spotting diversity in deck titles, looking for content tagged as diverse on IMDb and by Chat GPT, calculating diversity of exposed content with the Gini-Simpson-Index and assessing diversity through a manual coding of deck titles and sampling content displayed in selected decks. The article shows how differently diversity can be conceptualised and operationalised in VoD practice and concludes that multi-dimensional methodological approaches are needed. This article is a report on different publishing strategies for ‘diversity content’ in PSM VoD interfaces; a discussion of the conflicting relation between public service ideals and the notion of identity-based ‘branded diversity' of globally operating VoDs; and a contribution to developing methods for monitoring diversity on VoD.

Jewish Spaces in Egypt as Sites of Memory

This article explores Jewish spaces in Cairo as repositories of memory and their role in shaping a collective understanding of the Jewish past among non-Jewish Egyptians. By examining these sites through the perspectives of engaged observers, it uncovers their multifaceted reflections of Jewish life and culture. Interactions with these sites reveal the intricate interplay of internal and external factors, such as the dynamics between Jews and Muslims, the reverberations of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and societal responses to Jewish culture. These sites evoke a sense of patriotism among Egyptian Jews and their fellow citizens, marked by the fusion of Arabic, Hebrew, Judaism, and Islam. Understanding this perspective necessitates considering the roles of various stakeholders, including the remaining Jewish community, state institutions, conservationists, and scholarly professionals. It also requires an examination of ongoing societal debates and official decisions regarding the preservation or demolition of Jewish sites. Diverse viewpoints emerge from these discussions, reflecting issues like anti-Semitism, anti-Israel sentiments, distrust of the Egyptian state, and prioritizing the preservation of inhabited spaces over abandoned ones. By shedding light on these contradictions within Egyptian public discourse, this article underscores the significance of acknowledging and celebrating Egyptian Jewish heritage, which continues to shape society today.

Determining Need: Opportunities for Connecticut Invasive Plant Programming

The University of Connecticut Extension Sustainable Landscapes program seeks to develop an invasive plant training program to equip stakeholder groups of varied experiential backgrounds with the information needed to evaluate, manage, and mitigate populations of invasive species in Connecticut. A mixed methods needs assessment was conducted to explore diverse viewpoints about invasive plant education. Data were collected from 233 survey respondents and three focus group interviews. Landscape professional/contractors and municipal employees totaled 41.1% of respondents when combined, and home gardeners totaled 27.9%. The greatest programmatic need identified by survey respondents was invasive plant management options and strategies, with Japanese knotweed considered the most problematic invasive plant from a list of 16 species. Focus group participants expressed enthusiasm about targeted educational programming, such as efforts focused on land management principles, species identification, state regulatory agencies, and pesticide application. Many shared the need for enhanced public education efforts and resource availability. A hybrid approach, including virtual and in-person components, was recommended as the ideal delivery modality for an invasive plant training program.

The findings suggest that a balanced approach, considering diverse viewpoints and ethical implications, is crucial for the future of space exploration.

Defining “success” in large-scale agricultural investment: a typology based on different stakeholder perspectives

In 2007/2008, a triple crisis of food, fuel and finance sparked a global rush for agricultural land; tens of millions of hectares were acquired, primarily by foreign investors, within countries in the Global South. Amidst those transactions, intergovernmental organizations, national governments, investors, and community members envisioned what “success” of such investments entails. Although not explicitly defined, each stakeholder had different conceptualizations and measures of it, based upon the descriptions used and desired outcomes sought. Despite a large amount of literature analyzing the global rush for land, as far as we are aware no one has analyzed the diverse viewpoints about what success entails. This paper compares conceptualizations among four key stakeholder groups, based on ideal types from dominant narratives, and develops a typology of ideal stakeholder framing of success to allow comparisons of uses and thereby provide a foundation for researchers who are assessing the global land rush. This paper provides clarity about widely used, but inconsistently defined, framing providing an important foundation for clarity of meaning and comparative differences between stakeholders. The typology advances the discourse on the land rush by providing nuance to this widely used framing and makes explicit its diverse meanings.

Embodying Space

Space is neither a “passive, three-dimensional container” nor a “backdrop for something more dynamic” (McCormack, 2013, p. 2). Space is a process, and so is the body; especially, since the body itself—or the soma, the living body—contains inner spaces, which can and do relate to the spaces outside the body. How do we perceive space and embody space on this multiple scale? How do we feel space, objects, and other bodies while we co-exist? What do those inside spaces transmit while the performers move or stand still through their presence? How can the director envelope and contain these dimensions and be “holding the space” in and around the process? Using Body-Mind Centering® vocabulary, how to be the membrane around the fluid space? The BMC® embryological development studies open a new and even closer perspective to this space within “because it is the embodiment of space versus the embodiment of structure” (Bainbridge Cohen, 2012, p. 163). How to move from this multilayered/multiscale space utilizing diverse viewpoints of embodiment: taking actions from embodied spaces while holding the space and letting intuition enter the creative process because “space holds the information.” This article seeks to answer these questions and explore the relationship with space, particularly from the perspective of performing art and sculpture.

Departing from traditional academic approaches I navigate through anecdotes and reflections, highlighting the dangers of a singular perspective. In the article structured into three sections—introduction, discussion, and conclusion—I examine the transformative potential of embracing diversity. From cultural exchanges to historical figures like Christopher Columbus, each narrative underscores the importance of diverse viewpoints. The aim is to provoke thought, inspire introspection, and spark meaningful dialogue, ultimately advocating for a more inclusive and empathetic society.

Identification of indicators of urban affordable housing location choice for low-income households: a Delphi analysis

ABSTRACT The rapid growth of urbanization has resulted in an unprecedented housing crisis, particularly in developing nations. Tackling housing challenges is essential for the sustainable development of cities. One of the prime challenges in this domain is the identification of suitable locations for developing affordable housing projects. This research aims to identify the indicators that affect the choice of affordable housing locations for low-income households. Through exploration of relevant literature, a comprehensive list of 48 indicators was identified and classified into five categories; neighborhood embedded characteristics, urban characteristics, economic context, and social and housing characteristics. The Delphi method was adopted to gain consensus on the parameters identified. To encompass diverse viewpoints, experts were chosen from five metropolitan cities, including Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Mumbai, and Chennai, representing five geographical zones across India; criteria for selection included expertise in affordable housing, low-income housing, or sustainable development. 36 indicators gained consensus through a two-round Delphi survey with 0.71 as the value of Kendall’s coefficient of Concordance. The parameters of mobility, high employment opportunities, and proximity to various facilities were found to be significant when considering location choice. The indicators determined can help identify the relative locations of affordable housing development in urban areas.

Streamlining Faculty Evaluations: A Web-Based System for Enhanced Efficiency and Data-Driven Insights

Faculty evaluation is critical for improving teaching and student learning. Traditional methods, often reliant on student surveys, lack detail, and miss perspectives. This paper explores a Web-based Faculty Evaluation System (WFES) that leverages collaborative feedback to enhance teaching quality. The proposed WFES goes beyond traditional methods by incorporating multiple sources. It facilitates online student feedback through targeted surveys, self-reflection tools, and potentially integrated peer observation. This enriches the evaluation process with diverse viewpoints. A key benefit is efficient data collection. Online surveys and self-reflection tools reduce administrative burdens and streamline evaluation. Data analysis can identify areas for improvement, inform professional development, and target feedback for faculty. The collaborative nature fosters a culture of continuous improvement. By incorporating student, potentially peer, and self-reflection feedback, the system provides valuable insights for faculty, leading to more informed teaching practices and ultimately benefiting student learning. This research evaluates the implemented WFES using the ISO/IEC 25010 model. A web-based survey gathered feedback from a diverse group. The evaluation yielded promising results, with the WFES achieving a high overall score. However, areas for improvement in resource utilization and user interface design were identified. This research informs future development strategies to refine functionalities, enhance user experience, and ultimately strengthen faculty evaluation effectiveness.

This study examines the role of history education in shaping the complex self-identifications of high school students, highlighting its significance in the broader context of democratic education principles and human rights. Recognizing the transformative power of history education, the research investigates how historical narratives and teaching methodologies influence students’ identity formation and their perception of societal roles. Through a mixed-methods approach, involving surveys and observations from 300 high school students across ten schools in the Dnipropetrovsk region, this study explores the interplay between historical education and student self-identity, focusing on the integration of multiple perspectives, critical thinking, and ethical reflection in the curriculum. The findings reveal that exposure to diverse historical viewpoints not only enhances students' understanding of history but also actively supports their personal and social identity development. Critical engagement with historical content, especially involving ethical dilemmas and social injustices, encourages deep reflection and aids in forming a nuanced personal and social identity. Moreover, the study addresses the challenges posed by global educational dynamics and the media, which often contrast with the objectives of historical education, suggesting that an enriched historical curriculum can serve as a counterbalance to external influences. The research underscores the need for history educators to adopt inclusive and reflective pedagogical strategies that foster a critical understanding of history while supporting complex identity formation among students. By doing so, history education not only contributes to the academic development of students but also plays a crucial role in preparing them for active and informed citizenship in a democratic society. The study’s recommendations advocate for continuous teacher development and curricular adjustments to better meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring that history education remains a pivotal element of modern educational systems.

BERTopic for Enhanced Idea Management and Topic Generation in Brainstorming Sessions

Brainstorming is an important part of the design thinking process since it encourages creativity and innovation through bringing together diverse viewpoints. However, traditional brainstorming practices face challenges such as the management of large volumes of ideas. To address this issue, this paper introduces a decision support system that employs the BERTopic model to automate the brainstorming process, which enhances the categorization of ideas and the generation of coherent topics from textual data. The dataset for our study was assembled from a brainstorming session on “scholar dropouts”, where ideas were captured on Post-it notes, digitized through an optical character recognition (OCR) model, and enhanced using data augmentation with a language model, GPT-3.5, to ensure robustness. To assess the performance of our system, we employed both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Quantitative evaluations were conducted independently across various parameters, while qualitative assessments focused on the relevance and alignment of keywords with human-classified topics during brainstorming sessions. Our findings demonstrate that BERTopic outperforms traditional LDA models in generating semantically coherent topics. These results demonstrate the usefulness of our system in managing the complex nature of Arabic language data and improving the efficiency of brainstorming sessions.

Critical Discourse Analysis of G30S Representations in Grade XII Indonesian History Textbooks: A Comparative Study Across Different Curricula (1994-2013)

This paper presents a critical discourse analysis of the Gerakan 30 September (G30S) event's portrayal in Indonesian Grade XII history textbooks across various curricula from 1994 to 2013. By analysing four textbooks, the study reveals an evolving narrative of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) from a predominantly negative portrayal in earlier curricula to more nuanced and multiperspective representations in later editions. Early textbooks, aligned with the New Order's anti-communist ideology, depict the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) as a malevolent force, whereas later texts, especially under the 2013 curriculum, offer diverse viewpoints, reflecting a shift toward critical thinking and balanced historical understanding. This shift indicates changing political ideologies and educational approaches in Indonesia, highlighting the role of textbooks in shaping historical perception and national identity. The findings illuminate the transformation in educational narratives, emphasizing how these changes in textbooks are indicative of broader societal and political shifts and their significant impact on shaping collective memory and national consciousness in Indonesia.

BRICS expansion in the news coverage of member countries: a political economy perspective

PurposeThe purpose of this research is to examine the dynamics of news coverage within Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) nations, aiming to uncover patterns and critical factors influencing political and economic development policies. By providing a comprehensive overview of macro-level and sector-level economic trends reported by member country newspapers, the study seeks to understand problem-driven analysis schemes and proposed solutions to challenges. Additionally, it aims to evaluate the economic implications of political decisions as portrayed in news coverage, scrutinize the promotion of meaningful dialog and assess the role of news in encouraging coherence among stakeholders for effective pursuit of economic development goals within the BRICS nations.Design/methodology/approachThis qualitative research involves conducting a content analysis on 11 newspapers, each published by a BRICS member country, including established and recent members. The current study analyzes the national interests, economic implications of media frames, leaders’ statements and geopolitical contexts in light of the coverage of the newspapers under study and the BRICS' inclusion of new members from a political economy perspective.FindingsAll eleven newspapers emphasize the significance of the BRICS Summit and its role in shaping economic and geopolitical dynamics. They consistently highlight the cooperative and multilateral nature of BRICS, focusing on collaboration among member nations. All newspapers emphasize the importance of the BRICS Summit as a key event in global geopolitics. For instance, they discuss the 2023 BRICS Summit in South Africa as a focal point for member countries to discuss various global issues. Each newspaper discusses BRICS' role in advocating for equitable global governance and challenging Western dominance in international affairs. Economic aspects, such as trade, financial cooperation and economic growth within BRICS, are mentioned in the coverage of all eleven newspapers, underlining the economic dimension of the group. All eleven newspapers explore the expansion of BRICS and its implications, including differing member opinions and the introduction of new member countries. However, The Buenos Aires Times (Argentina) provides an in-depth focus on Argentina’s admission to BRICS and its significance, reflecting its unique perspective as a potential member. All newspapers recognize the media’s role in shaping awareness and discourse related to BRICS, but The Buenos Aires Times specifically focuses on Argentina’s perspective and how it informs its readers about global developments. Also, unlike other newspapers, The Buenos Aires Times mentions domestic political factors, including presidential elections in Argentina and opposition to Argentina’s BRICS membership, which impact the country’s stance. The newspapers' coverage of BRICS reflects their national interests, priorities and perspectives. While geopolitical and economic aspects are prominent, the depth of analysis, the emphasis on specific economic trends and the extent of problem-driven analysis vary. These diverse viewpoints provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of BRICS and its global impact. When comparing the 11 newspapers' coverage of BRICS-related topics, it’s evident that each publication brings its unique perspective and priorities to the forefront.Research limitations/implicationsWhile this research provides valuable insights into news patterns and their influence on political and economic development in BRICS nations, certain limitations should be acknowledged. The study’s scope primarily relies on newspaper coverage, potentially omitting perspectives from other media sources.Practical implicationsThe practical implications of this research are profound. Online Student Monitoring and Evaluation System using Apriori Algorithm for Predicting Student Academic Performance

The study investigates the current student monitoring and evaluation system of Saint Michael College of Caraga with the goal of easy tracking of student academic performance and progression. The research employs a mixed-methods approach through the conduct of interview and utilizing online survey questionnaire. The perspectives of young female students regarding the current system and their suggestions for improvement were examined and analyzed using descriptive statistical method such as frequency distribution, weighted mean score, and standard deviation. The key findings indicate a generally positive perception of the existing system but highlight areas for improvement including addressing technical issues, accommodating diverse learning styles, ensuring system security and privacy, and providing personalized support to students. By engaging stakeholders and incorporating diverse viewpoints from the respondents, the research output contributes to the development of a robust monitoring and evaluation system capable of optimizing academic performance assessment and enriching the educational experience.
