Construction of women's empowerment index for Bangladesh.

This study is dedicated to refining and enhancing the measurement model of women's empowerment in Bangladesh. Women's empowerment, a crucial and multifaceted aspect of societal growth, is often hindered by gender disparities. This is particularly evident in societies like Bangladesh, where women face inequalities in education, economic opportunities, and decision-making power. To address these disparities effectively, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of women's empowerment. Therefore, this study aims to refine and enhance the measurement model to capture the multifaceted nature of women's empowerment accurately. To gather data for this study, a structured questionnaire was administered to married women of reproductive age (15-49) in eight Mouza/Mohalla in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This unique approach allowed us to capture a diverse range of perspectives. We used thirty-three indicators across economic, socio-cultural, household, and psychological dimensions to measure women's empowerment. The sample data were then randomly divided for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to identify and validate a comprehensive multidimensional framework. Out of 625 respondents, only 36% of women worked, and ~39% married before age 18. Employing thirty-three items in EFA led to identifying eight critical factors (economic independence, control over household financial decisions, household decision-making, reproductive decision-making, freedom of movement, media exposure, positive self-esteem, and negative self-esteem). These factors, which explained 72.661% of the total variance in the data, provide a practical framework for understanding and addressing women's empowerment. Each component was then divided into two sub-dimensions to acquire a better understanding. The CFA indicated a good model fit for each dimension, and convergent and discriminant validity assessments were used to establish reliability and validity, further enhancing the practical implications of our findings. The results of our rigorous exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses not only confirmed the sample structures and internal consistency but also provided significant insights. The findings suggested an adequate fit for all CFA models, indicating the robustness of our measurement model. According to the CFA results, each dimension's variables are satisfactory, and all the dimensions can be combined to create a single index measuring women's empowerment. This comprehensive understanding of women's empowerment, with its specific dimensions and factors, equips policymakers and practitioners with the knowledge to develop a wide range of interventions appropriate to particular facets of empowerment, thereby fostering societal growth and gender equality.

Self-determination and perceived learning in online learning communities

This study explores the interplay between Self-Determination (SDT), relatedness, and teaching presence and CoI’s presence (teaching, cognitive, and social) in the context of online educational settings within China. Specifically, the study employs the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to investigate the interaction between SDT (Self-Determination, relatedness, and competence) and the perceived learning outcomes (autonomy, competence, and perceived learning). The underlying structure of the study’s conceptual framework was analyzed through the measurement model and the discriminant validity assessment. The results show that cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence are significantly associated with autonomy, competence, relevance, and perceived learning. Moreover, cognitive presence and social presence can potentially augment cognitive processes, amplifying the mediating role of relatedness between cognitive presence and learning outcomes.

A typology of validity: content, face, convergent, discriminant, nomological and predictive validity

PurposeResearch serves to elucidate and tackle real-world issues (e.g. capitalizing opportunities and solving problems). Critical to research is the concept of validity, which gauges the extent to which research is adequate and appropriate in representing what it intends to measure and test. In this vein, this article aims to present a typology of validity to aid researchers in this endeavor.Design/methodology/approachEmploying a synthesis approach informed by the 3Es of expertise, experience, and exposure, this article maintains a sharp focus on delineating the concept of validity and presenting its typology.FindingsThis article emphasizes the importance of validity and explains how and when different types of validity can be established. First and foremost, content validity and face validity are prerequisites assessed before data collection, whereas convergent validity and discriminant validity come into play during the evaluation of the measurement model post-data collection, while nomological validity and predictive validity are crucial in the evaluation of the structural model following the evaluation of the measurement model. Additionally, content, face, convergent and discriminant validity contribute to construct validity as they pertain to concept(s), while nomological and predictive validity contribute to criterion validity as they relate to relationship(s). Last but not least, content and face validity are established by humans, thereby contributing to the assessment of substantive significance, whereas convergent, discriminant, nomological and predictive validity are established by statistics, thereby contributing to the assessment of statistical significance.Originality/valueThis article contributes to a deeper understanding of validity’s multifaceted nature in research, providing a practical guide for its application across various research stages.

Pain in Dementia: An Empirical Test of a Common Assumption

Numerous, and often largely overlapping, observational pain assessment tools have been developed specifically to assess pain in older adults with dementia under the assumption that a specialized approach is necessary to evaluate pain in this population. However, this assumption has never been tested empirically. As an empirical test of this implicit assumption, our goal was to compare existing tools for people living with dementia (with respect to psychometric properties), not only against each other, but also against a tool developed for a different population with cognitive impairments. Videos of older adults with severe dementia recorded in long-term care settings were coded for pain behaviors in the laboratory. Trained coders coded pain behaviors in video segments of older adults with dementia during a quiet baseline condition as well as during a physical examination (designed to identify painful areas), using various observational pain assessment tools. An observational measure of agitation was employed to facilitate the assessment of discriminant validity. Consistent with our expectations, all pain tools (including the tool developed for younger people with cognitive impairments) successfully differentiated between painful and nonpainful states, with large effect sizes. This was the first study to compare tools specifically developed to assess pain in people living with dementia to a tool developed for a different population. Given that all tools under study showed satisfactory psychometric properties when tested on persons with dementia, this study suggests that the assumption that different tools are necessary for different populations with cognitive impairments cannot be taken for granted. PerspectiveThis article challenges an implicitly held assumption that specialized tools are needed to assess pain in different populations with cognitive impairments. Given commonalities in pain expression across populations, further research is needed to determine whether population-specific tools are needed.

Examining the Reliability and Validity of Measuring Scales related to Informatization Instructional Leadership Using PLS-SEM Approach

During the COVID-19, university teachers’ informatization instructional leadership (TIIL) was adopted in many countries. This attracted widespread attention. This research derived six factors from the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) including performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC) and behavioral intention (BI), added two new internal elements related to the individual teacher which are computer self-efficacy (CSE) and blended teaching competence (BTC). Before using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to explore the contributing factors to TIIL by assessing interrelation between constructs within extended UTAUT model in this study. This pilot study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of modified scales incorporating Use Expectancy (UE) Scale including (PE Scale and EE Scale) used to measure use expectancy, SI Scale to measure social influence, FC Scale to measure facilitating conditions, CSE Scale to measure computer self-efficacy, BTC Scale to measure blended teaching competence, BI Scale to measure behavioral intention to adopt TIIL, and the TIIL Scale to measure teachers’ informatization instructional leadership. A total of 60 teachers from the large multi-disciplinary private undergraduate universities in Xi’an city of Shaanxi province in China participated in this research. The data was collected in November-December 2022 during the middle stages of COVID-19 pandemic. The PLS-SEM approach was used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the adapted scales. The internal consistency reliability was determined by composite reliability (CR) and Cronbach’s alpha. Convergent validity was assessed by outer loading and average variance extracted (AVE). Assessment of discriminant validity was measured by Fornell-Larcker criterion, Cross-loadings and Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT). Results showed after deleting nine items with lower than .40, Cronbach’s alpha values were all higher than .70. CR values were at a satisfactory level. All item values fulfilled the criteria of AVE, Fornell-Larcker criterion, cross-loadings, and HTMT. Research results revealed all adapted scales were valid and reliable to be used in future research. This study explored the influencing factors of TIIL in Chinese context, enriched the theory of TIIL, and provided practical support for the future development of TIIL.

Reliability and validity tests of the Chinese version of the Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS-25) in tumor survivors

ObjectiveTo evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese-translated Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS-25) for the assessment of locomotive syndrome (LS) in individuals surviving malignancies. Methods393 tumor survivors at a general hospital in China were recruited. The Chinese version of GLFS-25 was utilized to conduct a cross-sectional survey to ascertain the tool's efficacy in measuring LS in this cohort. The scale's validity was examined through content, structural and discriminant validity assessments, while its reliability was investigated by determining the internal consistency (via Cronbach's α coefficient) and test-retest reliability (via intragroup correlation coefficient, ICC). ResultsThe Chinese-adapted GLFS-25 demonstrated a robust scale-level content validity index of 0.94, while item-level content validity indices ranged from 0.83 to 1.00 across individual items. The suitability of the scale for structural validity assessment was confirmed via exploratory factor analysis, yielding a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of 0.930 and a significant Bartlett's test of sphericity (χ2 = 3217.714, df = 300, P < 0.001). Subsequent confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) extracted four distinct factors: Social Activity Engagement, Daily Living Ability, Pain Experience and Physical Mobility. These factors accounted for 72.668 % of the variance, indicating substantial construct validity for measuring LS among this population. CFA supported the model's fit with the following indices: χ2/df = 1.559, RMSEA = 0.077, GFI = 0.924, CFI = 0.941, NFI = 0.919, and TLI = 0.933. The factor loadings for the four factors ranged from 0.771 to 0.931, indicating the items corresponding to the four factors effectively represented the constructs they were designed to measure. The correlation coefficients among the four factors were between 0.306 and 0.469, all lower than the square roots of the respective AVEs (0.838–0.867). This suggests a moderate correlation among the four factors and a distinct differentiation between them, indicating the Chinese version of the GLFS-25 exhibits strong discriminant validity in Chinese tumor survivors. Reliability testing revealed a high Cronbach's α coefficient for the overall scale at 0.961, with the subscales yielding coefficients of 0.751, 0.836, 0.930, and 0.952. The overall ICC was determined to be 0.935, with subscale ICCs ranging from 0.857 to 0.941, reinforcing the scale's reliability in this context. ConclusionsThe Chinese version of the GLFS-25 exhibits strong reliability and validity for the assessment of LS in tumor survivors. It may serve as a diagnostic tool for LS, contributing to the prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorders and enhancing the prognosis for this patient population.

Assessing the reliability and validity of the Slovenian version of the Appraisal of Diabetes Scale (ADS-S) in type 2 diabetes patients.

Managing type 2 diabetes (T2D) effectively is a considerable challenge. The Appraisal of Diabetes Scale (ADS) has proven valuable in understanding how individuals perceive and cope with their condition. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Slovenian version of ADS (ADS-S). We recruited a sample of 400 adult individuals with T2D from three primary healthcare centers in Slovenia, ensuring an average of 57 cases per individual item. The psychometric evaluation included internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity, and discriminant validity. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was additionally performed to evaluate the fit of one- and two-factor models. After excluding incomplete questionnaires, 389 individuals participated, averaging 72.0±7.5 years, with 196 men and 193 women. ADS-S exhibited acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.70) and strong test-retest reliability (interclass correlation = 0.88, p <0.001). Criterion validity was established through significant correlations between ADS-S score and EQ-5D utility score (r = -0.34, p <0.001), EQ-VAS score (r = -0.38, p <0.001), and HbA1c >7.5% (r = 0.22, p = 0.019). Discriminant validity assessment found no significant correlation between ADS-S score and age, but a significant correlation with female gender (r = 0.17, p = 0.001). CFA results supported a two-factor structure (psychological impact of diabetes and sense of self-control) over a one-factor structure, as indicated by model fit indicators. ADS-S stands as a valid and reliable tool for assessing psychological impact and self-control in Slovenian T2D patients. Future research should explore adding items for capturing secondary appraisal of diabetes and studying the influence of female gender on ADS scores.

Psychometric properties of a Saudi Arabian version of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R).

Maternal outcomes are closely associated with birth satisfaction, and the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R), a concise, multidimensional self-report measure, has undergone translation and validation internationally. However, research on birth satisfaction in Saudi Arabia is scarce. The absence of valid Arabic-language tools for the Saudi population may impede critical research on this topic, necessitating the translation and use of psychometrically sound instruments for measuring birth satisfaction in Saudi women. This study aimed to translate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Saudi Arabian version of the BSS-R (SA-BSS-R). A total of 218 Saudi women participated in the study, and psychometric analysis of the translated SA-BSS-R involved confirmatory factor analysis, divergent validity analysis, and known-group discriminant validity assessment within a cross-sectional study design. The three-factor BSS-R measurement model displayed poor fit, and internal consistency fell below the threshold value. Additionally, it was observed that women undergoing an episiotomy had significantly lower overall SA-BSS-R scores. The SA-BSS-R manifested atypical measurement properties in this population. Despite insightful observations related to episiotomy, the identified measurement shortcomings highlight the need for a more robust and culturally sensitive translation to enhance measurement characteristics.

Path Analysis Using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to Examine the Moderation of Product Knowledge in the Effects of and Perceived Risk, Environmental Consciousness, and Subjective Norm on Purchase Intention

The objective of this research was to enhance the comprehension of consumer behaviour by exploring how purchase intentions are influenced by perceived risk, environmental consciousness, and subjective norms, which together create a complex interplay. SEM and PLS, focusing on the moderating role of product knowledge were employed in the study. While consumer marketing has well-established models, business marketing lacks similar references. This study contributes to the academic discourse and provides practical insights for organizations as they adapt to evolving customer preferences. The research technique included the evaluation of the measurement model via the use of reflective indicators, as well as the assessment of convergent and discriminant validity. Using bootstrapping, the structural model was then tested through the hypothesis testing, as well as the overall model quality and fit were evaluated using R square, Q square, F square, and SRMR. The results indicated that subjective norms played a more dominant role than perceived risk and environmental awareness in the context of purchase intention. However, the interaction between these factors and product knowledge did not significantly impact the purchase intention. The product knowledge is in-depth knowledge about the products marketed by a company. In this research, the product knowledge was a moderating variable, where the moderating variable could strengthen or weaken the independent variable. The R square value illustrated a high overall effect of exogenous/endogenous variables on purchase intention. The research contributes to the literature by bridging gaps in SEM application, shedding light on the complexities of consumer behaviour in business marketing, and advocating for a nuanced understanding of PLS-SEM's dual purpose. The findings offer valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in navigating the intricate landscape of consumer decision-making.

Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Chinese Version of the Authentic Nurse Leadership Questionnaire

Aims. To adapt the Authentic Nurse Leadership Questionnaire (ANLQ) to the Chinese cultural context and evaluate its psychometric properties. Background. Authenticity serves as a pivotal factor in the dynamic interaction between nurse leaders and nurse staff, exerting a profound influence on the growth of nurse individuals, healthcare teams, and organizations. However, there is still a dearth of research instruments to assess nurses’ perception of authentic leadership in China. Methods. After authorization from the original author and technical support had been secured, a systematic process of initial translation, back translation, expert panel review, and pretesting was employed to ensure cross-cultural adaptation in accordance with established guidelines. A two-stage study design was implemented. In stage 1, 189 nurses were sampled for psychometric validation, during which the internal consistency reliability, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability were tested and exploratory factor analysis was performed. In stage 2, 255 nurses were sampled for confirmatory factor analysis and assessment of convergent and discriminant validity, to further validate the constructs. Results. In stage 1, the validated instrument showed a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.973, a split-half coefficient of 0.888, and a test-retest reliability coefficient of 0.912. The exploratory factor analysis extracted five dimensions that accounted for 82.629% of the overall variance. The findings in stage 2 showed that the observed data were well fitted to the five-factor theoretical model, with acceptable levels of convergent and discriminant validity. Conclusions. The Chinese version of the ANLQ demonstrated appropriate psychometric properties, as evidenced by its good reliability and validity. Implications for Nursing Management. This study offers nurse administrators and executives a valuable instrument, enabling them to establish leadership evaluation criteria, conduct nurse leader performance appraisals, and assist in selecting new nurse leaders. Ultimately, this contributes to the cultivation and development of exceptional managers capable of providing positive leadership to their followers.

Logistics Customer Service and Sustainability-Focused Freight Transport Practices of Enterprises: Joint Influence of Organizational Competencies and Competitiveness

The paper presents the results of research on the influence of logistics customer service on sustainability-focused freight transport practices of enterprises. Additionally, the extended perspective of the key relation through the inclusion of the joint effect of selected organizational competencies of the companies and their competitiveness in interaction with logistics customer service was introduced. The adopted research procedure included the use of several different statistical methods with regard to data collected in 275 freight transport enterprises. First, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test and the Bartlett Sphericity test were determined, then a factor analysis was carried out with the intention of performing a reliability analysis and discriminant validity assessment, and finally, correlations and hierarchical multiple regression were determined. The findings of the research suggest a primal concluding explication that sustainability-focused freight transport practices are conditioned by auxiliary logistics processes realized by the enterprise within logistics customer service, joint competencies within the organization’s management, as well as peripheral circumstances of competitiveness.

Development and Validation of Instrument Measuring Perception of Healthcare Provider on Cost Containment and Related Practices in Hospital Setting

Introduction: Healthcare system is struggling to overcome challenges in cost-containment and to maintain expenditure levels conceivable for an efficient operation. A new instrument measuring cost containment practices in healthcare are essential to provide genuine information to prevent unnecessary expenses and excessive spending. Objective of the Study: To develop and validate the instruments for measuring staff perception on Cost Containment Practices (CCP) and related factors in the hospital setting in the North Region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Methodology: The study instruments consist of 11 items measuring cost containment practice (CCP), 11 items measuring healthcare quality (HQ) and 8 items measuring staff attitude (SA) were newly constructed. Otherwise, the 17 items measuring health information technology (HIT) and another 17 items for measuring organization empowerment (OE) were adapted and modified from previous studies. All items were measured using the ten-point interval scale. The instrument was developed in stages: reviewing the literature and development of the item, experts’ verification for content validity, and face validity. Later, this study employed a cross-sectional design in two phases. In the pilot study stage, 170 respondents were sampled using a stratified random sampling method. The selected respondents were given an online self-administered questionnaire for data collection. Then, the researchers conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to assess the usefulness of every item for measuring their respective construct. In the actual field study, another 247 respondents were sampled from two other hospitals to provide data for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess the instruments’ construct validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity as well as its composite reliability. Results: The EFA results showed the extraction method of Principal Component with Varimax Rotation was significant. The Bartletts’ Test of Sphericity and the sampling adequacy by KMO test confirmed sufficiency of samples. None of the items were removed as all the items in all five constructs showed factor loading of more than 0.6. The reliability of all constructs was achieved by Cronbach’s Alpha above 0.8; CCP=0.805, HIT=0.890, OE=0.890, HQ=0.834 and SA=0.910. Furthermore, the CFA results for each construct fulfilled the construct validity through acceptable factor loadings (more than 0.6) and fitness indexes values achieved the threshold for all constructs and respective items. The fitness indexes were namely RMSEA, the Incremental Fit category; the CFI, the Parsimonious Fit category, and the ratio of Chisq/df. The study also revealed all Average Variance Extracted (AVE) and Composite Reliability (CR) results exceeded their threshold values of 0.5 and 0.6 respectively, which fulfilled the model Convergent Validity and Composite Reliability. In addition, the Discriminant Validity assessment ensured that no redundant constructs occur in the model and no multi-collinearity problem. Conclusion: The study produces a valid and reliable instrument for better assessment and understanding of practices on healthcare cost based on staff perception. It potentially reflects and explains the reasons behind the success or failure of cost containment initiatives. The present findings indicate applicability of the proposed instrument to measure cost containment practices in hospitals.

Exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) and bifactor ESEM for construct validation purposes: Guidelines and applied example

The present study aims to introduce the advancement of the exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) and bifactor ESEM for construct validation purposes in second language research. It does so by applying the methods to the Basic Psychological Needs in Second Language (BPN-L2) Scale (Alamer, 2021a) to assess its factorial validity from a novel perspective. Bifactor ESEM is useful in situations where the theory postulates two layers of constructs (global and specific constructs). A comparison was made between four CFA and ESEM models, and the bifactor ESEM was the model of choice because it provided sufficient details about the multidimensionality of the BPN-L2 scale which accounted for the specific constructs (i.e., autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and the general construct (i.e., the basic psychological needs) and allowed for the assessment of convergent, discriminant, and predictive (criterion) validity from a new perspective. Predictive (criterion-related) validity was assessed using the structural bifactor ESEM by showing that the specific factors explained autonomous motivation differently compared to the global BPN factor, thus confirming the presence of imbalance at the specific factors level. The study provided guidelines in applying bifactor ESEM and presented an applied example with the syntax required to run the models in Mplus. The findings showed that the BPN-L2 scale is reliable and valid through the bifactor ESEM solution and that CFA solutions failed to support the measurement model.

Psychometric study of the SF-36v2 in hereditary angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE)

BackgroundThe generic 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36v2) has been used to assess health related quality of life in adult patients with hereditary angioedema due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) even though it has not yet been validated for use in this specific disease.ObjectiveThis study aims to validate the SF-36v2 for use in adult patients with C1-INH-HAE.ResultsThere was a very low item non-response rate (1–3.4%), with a high ceiling effect in 25/35 items and a low floor effect in 3/35 items. A moderate ceiling effect was observed in 5/8 dimensions of the SF-36v2, whereas no floor effect was noticed in any of the dimensions. Internal consistency was good to excellent with Cronbach's alpha coefficient ranging between 0.82 and 0.93 for the different dimensions. Construct validity was good: seven out of the 8 hypotheses defined on clinical criteria were confirmed, discriminant validity assessment showed significant differences among patients with different C1-INH-HAE severity, convergent validity showed a good correlation among the physical and mental component summaries of the SF-36v2 and the HAE-QoL total score (0.45 and 0.64 respectively, P < 0.001). Test–retest reliability was high with intraclass correlation coefficient varying from 0.758 to 0.962. The minimal clinically important difference was calculated by distribution methods and small differences in the domain scores and in the component summaries scores were shown to be meaningful. ConclusionsThe psychometric properties of the SF-36v2 show it can be a useful tool to assess HRQoL in adult patients with C1-INH-HAE, although with some content validity limitation.MethodsThe psychometric properties of the SF-36v2 were evaluated in an international setting based on responses from 290 adult C1-INH-HAE patients in 11 countries.

Development of a theory-informed questionnaire to assess the acceptability of healthcare interventions

BackgroundThe theoretical framework of acceptability (TFA) was developed in response to recommendations that acceptability should be assessed in the design, evaluation and implementation phases of healthcare interventions. The TFA consists of seven component constructs (affective attitude, burden, ethicality, intervention coherence, opportunity costs, perceived effectiveness, and self-efficacy) that can help to identify characteristics of interventions that may be improved. The aim of this study was to develop a generic TFA questionnaire that can be adapted to assess acceptability of any healthcare intervention.MethodsTwo intervention-specific acceptability questionnaires based on the TFA were developed using a 5-step pre-validation method for developing patient-reported outcome instruments: 1) item generation; 2) item de-duplication; 3) item reduction and creation; 4) assessment of discriminant content validity against a pre-specified framework (TFA); 5) feedback from key stakeholders.Next, a generic TFA-based questionnaire was developed and applied to assess prospective and retrospective acceptability of the COVID-19 vaccine. A think-aloud method was employed with two samples: 10 participants who self-reported intention to have the COVID-19 vaccine, and 10 participants who self-reported receiving a first dose of the vaccine.Results1) The item pool contained 138 items, identified from primary papers included in an overview of reviews. 2) There were no duplicate items. 3) 107 items were discarded; 35 new items were created to maximise coverage of the seven TFA constructs. 4) 33 items met criteria for discriminant content validity and were reduced to two intervention-specific acceptability questionnaires, each with eight items. 5) Feedback from key stakeholders resulted in refinement of item wording, which was then adapted to develop a generic TFA-based questionnaire.For prospective and retrospective versions of the questionnaire, no participants identified problems with understanding and answering items reflecting four TFA constructs: affective attitude, burden, perceived effectiveness, opportunity costs. Some participants encountered problems with items reflecting three constructs: ethicality, intervention coherence, self-efficacy.ConclusionsA generic questionnaire for assessing intervention acceptability from the perspectives of intervention recipients was developed using methods for creating participant-reported outcome measures, informed by theory, previous research, and stakeholder input. The questionnaire provides researchers with an adaptable tool to measure acceptability across a range of healthcare interventions.

APPROVAL OF THE USE OF THE SHORT FORM 19 OF THE CHILD’S ORAL HEALTH IMPACT PROFILE (COHIP-SF 19) FOR DENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH NEEDS

The aim: Is an adaptation, determination of psychometric properties, and approbation of the use of COHIP-SF 19 for the needs of dental public health in the Ukrainian sample of children and teenagers. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional validation study was conducted on a sample of 236 Ukrainian children aged 6 to 18. The psychometric indicators of the questionnaire were evaluated; analysis of the reliability and internal structure of the methodology based on correlation and factor analysis, calculation of Chronbach's alpha; reliability of re-testing (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient); assessment of convergent and discriminant validity (Mann-Whitney U test, ROC analysis, and correlation analysis). STATISTICA 6.1 (StatSoftInc., № AGAR909E415822FA) was used to analyze the results. The ethics of the study was confirmed by the conclusion of the relevant commission. Results: After cultural direct and reverse translation of the original version, the Ukrainian version of COHIP-SF 19 UK was obtained. The internal consistency of the subscales and COHIP-SF 19 UK was generally sufficient (Cronbach's alpha is greater than 0.7). Sufficient reliability of retesting, convergent and discriminant validity of the methodology was proved. The presence of a correlation between COHIP-SF 19 UK indicators and self-assessment of children's health and quality of life was determined. Conclusions: The study proved that COHIP-SF 19 UK is a reliable valid method for assessing the quality of life-related to oral health among Ukrainian children and adolescents, and its good psychometric properties are sufficient for research in the field of dental public health.

Measuring health-related quality of life in young children with physical illness: psychometric properties of the parent-reported KIDSCREEN-27.

This study examined whether the KIDSCREEN-27 was reliable and valid in young children 2-7years with chronic physical illnesses which included estimating inter-domain correlations and internal consistency; measurement invariance testing; and, discriminant and convergent validity assessments. Data come from the Multimorbidity in Children and Youth across the Life-course; a longitudinal study of individuals aged 2-16years with physical illness. The parent-reported KIDSCREEN-27 was administered. Children (2-7years; n = 106) were compared to adolescents (8-16years; n = 157). Reliability was estimated using Cronbach α for internal consistency. Multiple group confirmatory factor analysis tested for measurement invariance. Cohen's d and Pearson coefficient were used to assess discriminant validity by sex and age. Convergent validity was tested using Pearson coefficients with the WHODAS 2.0 (child functioning/impairment). Multiple regression examined associations between multimorbidity (co-occurring physical and mental illness) and HRQL. Internal consistency reliabilities were α = 0.74-0.88 (children) and α = 0.77-0.88 (adolescents). Inter-domain correlations were relatively low (children: r = 0.18-0.59; adolescents: r = 0.30-0.62) indicating that each KIDSCREEN-27 domain was measuring a unique aspect of health-related quality of life. Measurement invariance was demonstrated (scalar level). Parameter estimates of the invariant models were similar for children and adolescents. Small, non-significant correlations were found for sex and age for children and adolescents. Medium, significant correlations were found for both groups between the KIDSCREEN-27 and WHODAS 2.0. Children and adolescents with multimorbidity had significantly lower physical well-being, psychological well-being, and school environment scores compare to those without multimorbidity. Regression coefficients were similar between groups. Findings provide evidence of adequate psychometrics for the KIDSCREEN-27 in young children with chronic physical illness.

Assessing the factor structure of the Spreitzer’s Psychological Empowerment Scale among Malaysian teachers

Psychological empowerment is one of the compelling factors that drive employees to be more initiative and innovative and Spreitzer's Psychological Empowerment Scale (PES) has been widely used to measure it. Nevertheless, PES stability has not been determined in the Malaysian context, limiting its meaning and interpretation. Hence, this study examines the factor structure of the scale among Malaysian teachers. The scale structure was investigated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) simultaneously with the convergent validity, discriminant validity, and reliability assessment. CFA results of factor loadings and average variance extracted revealed significant evidence of convergent validity while the Fornell-Larcker procedure produced an outcome that supported high discriminant validity of the PES. The reasonable values of the goodness-of-fit indices show that overall, the data fit well. Also, based on the values of the composite reliability and Cronbach’s alpha, measurement using the scale demonstrated high internal consistency. Thus, the findings confirmed the stability of the factor structure and therefore provided evidence of generalizability of the scale into the Malaysian context.

Construct Validation of Self-Determination Theory in Second Language Scale: The Bifactor Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling Approach.

The present study aimed to assess the construct validity of the Self-Determination Theory in Second Language Scale (SDT-L2; Alamer, 2021). The study involved 266 undergraduate students learning English as a second language (L2) in Saudi Arabia. The factorial structure of the SDT-L2 was examined using the advanced bifactor-Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) method. The scale provided adequate composite reliability and the bifactor ESEM provided unique details about the multidimensionality of the scale which accounted for the specific constructs (i.e., intrinsic, identified, introjected, and external regulations) and the general constructs (i.e., autonomous motivation and controlled motivation), and allowed for assessment of convergent and discriminant validity. Predictive validity was established by showing that autonomous motivation significantly predicted L2 performance, while controlled motivation did not. Overall, the study demonstrated the usefulness of the bifactor ESEM for construct validation purposes and the results showed that SDT-L2 is a valid scale to assess students’ L2 motivation based on SDT perspective.
