Transformation of the university course "Informatics"

The article focuses on issues related to the modern role of the university discipline "Informatics", its content and the need for transformation. The results of a survey of first-year students of SSUGT are presented, they show which sections and topics of the discipline students consider the most important, as well as an overall assessment of the quality of teaching the discipline in the Autumn semester of the 2021-2022 academic year.

Challenges confronting e-learning in higher education institutions in Nigeria amid Covid -19

PurposeThe shutdown of normal face-to-face educational method of learning caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has made the education stakeholders reconsider and rethink education anew in light of the emerging challenges and opportunities imposed on e-learning in higher education in Nigeria post COVID-19. This study investigates the challenges confronting e-learning in higher education in Nigeria amid COVID-19.Design/methodology/approach Drawing upon data collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 395 lecturers in various disciplines in private, state and federal universities in Nigeria, the study adopts a quantitative research method. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.FindingsThe findings indicate that Nigeria Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are still in the early stage of adopting the e-learning mode of study. In addition, there was no existing e-learning curriculum before the pandemic. Also, adopting e-learning mode of teaching was an uphill task for both the lecturers and the learners, given the lack of experience in information and communications technology usage and inadequate infrastructure to support e-learning.Research limitations/implications A major limitation of the study is the inability to investigate the challenges facing students in using e-learning tools due to the unavailability of access to students during the lockdown. However, the limitations create opportunities for further studies into the subject matter.Originality/value The study is timely given that HEIs in Nigeria and some other countries in Africa are yet to adopt blended teaching methods. Literature reveals that most HEIs in Nigeria are using only brick and mortar mode of teaching despite the benefit of blended learning in a pandemic situation.

An Investigation of Motives and Fear of Learning Japanese As a Foreign Language

Research showed that learners faced negative and positive factors in learning a foreign language. The negativities may be the barrier for the students to succeed in the learning process. This research examines what makes the students stay in lectures and what elements could cause the students to quit. This research aims to investigate the motives/motivations that students encounter and whether these positive elements help the students overcome the fear and anxiety they face. This research adopted the quantitative approach. A survey is used as the instrument. A questionnaire with five sections on demography profile, motivation to learn, communication and apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety was questioned by the students. Two hundred and twenty-one students from three disciplines in a public university in Malaysia participated in the questionnaire. The result shows that students do experience fear and anxiety during lectures. However, the desire to learn makes the students put in some effort to overcome the negative factors. When the desire to learn and the efforts are implemented in learning the Japanese language, students gradually feel comfortable and at ease when attending lectures. This research indicated that fun and interactive activities and an enjoyable lesson should be planned to assist students to overcome the negatives and succeed in mastering the language.

Educación viralizada desde la universidad: modelo tecno-pedagógico para trascender los límites del aula en el proceso de aprendizaje

University learning is intended to be applied and transferred to other contexts, especially in professional settings. The education-by-competence framework is designed with this in mind. Mechanisms are needed, however, that promote the communication of this knowledge effectively and reliably. This article presents the process for designing, refining and implementing a model based on an instrument inspired by the e-portfolio philosophy. This model provides a robust techno-pedagogical layer intended to facilitate the tutored of knowledge from university disciplines that lead to the creation of a network of teacher-supervised profiles and content. All this output comes from the students of the institutions themselves and their ability to generate active-knowledge networks that break with formal stagnation and teaching linearity by expanding the knowledge acquired in supervised fashion to an open and wider community. The methodology used for this study, conducted between 2015 and 2019, was Design-Based Research. The result is a conceptual tool that can reliably generate an open dialogue between the university and the contexts in which university-developed knowledge is applied. This article describes the constructs developed during the model-refinement process. This model is now being used in generalized fashion in an online university environment.

СОВЕРШЕНСТВОВАНИЕ ОРГАНИЗАЦИИ И УПРАВЛЕНИЯ СИСТЕМОЙ ФИЗИЧЕСКОГО ВОСПИТАНИЯ СТУДЕНТОВ

The article is devoted to the development of approaches to the improvement and management of the system of physical education of students. It is established that the introduction of changes in the physical training of students requires the search for new criteria for the formation of individual components of the methodological system, its content and means. It is proved that the preservation of physical education as an academic discipline in universities should be considered not as an additional academic burden on the student, but as a means that positively affects the activation of mental activity, the restoration of intellectual and physical performance. A retrospective analysis of the development and formation of the system of physical education of students in the Russian Federation was carried out, which made it possible to identify the main directions of its development based on the identification of individual positive and negative factors that cause changes in the socio-economic and cultural development of the country. It is noted that the preservation of physical education at the university now depends on the competence of the university management, the authority of the heads of physical education departments and the search for new balanced solutions. It is found out that the system of physical training is a conditioned type of physical education system, which is based on ideological, program-normative, scientific methodological and organizational principles that provide physical education of students.

Comparative study between automatic hint generation approaches in Intelligent Programming Tutors

In all engineering discipline in universities, introductory programming is an essential part of the curriculum. However, many students find great difficulty with the learning of programming without instructor assistance and it becomes a barrier to their further studies of computer science and other disciplines.Intelligent Programming Tutors (IPTs) assist students to overcome difficulties in solving programming exercises, when they don’t know how to proceed or they unable to find an error in their current state. Such a student may benefit from hints, guiding her toward a more complete and/or more correct version and allowing her to continue working on her own (Aleven et al., 2016).However, traditional IPTs take much time to create the expert knowledge because in computer programming tasks, the space of possible solutions is too large (Piech et al., 2015b). New development methods have emerged in recent years, which provide hints without an expert model. These techniques are based on data-driven approaches and/or program repair techniques and provide hints in the form of edits (such as inserting or deleting a piece of code). Students can apply these hints in their current state to change it into a more correct and/or more complete state. This paper aims to provide a best understanding of these new techniques and presents a comparative study between different approaches of automatic hint generation by presenting the forces and weaknesses of each approach.

Research on the Work Incentive and Career Development of Dance Teachers in Colleges and Universities of Hunan Province

Dance teachers are an important part of college teachers, and also an important carrier for effective teaching of art disciplines in colleges and universities. The establishment of an effective and comprehensive incentive mechanism and a broad career development platform is an important part of the development and management of college teachers' human resources. This paper adopts research methods of literature and field, through analyzing the work motivation of dance teachers in colleges and universities in Hunan Province, and according to relevant research theories, puts forward a series of incentive mechanisms and theoretical methods for professional development of dance teachers in colleges and universities in Hunan Province, which will fully mobilize the enthusiasm, initiative and creativity of dance teachers in colleges and universities in Hunan Province.

Exploration on the Teaching Method Reform of Economic Management Courses in Colleges and Universities

With the continuous promotion of the educational reform policy in recent years, many higher vocational colleges with vocational education as the core goal have achieved considerable development and improvement in the overall teaching quality, and the professional talents they cultivate have gradually been accepted by more fields and industries in the society. Reform and Research on Teaching Methods of Computer Operating System Course in Colleges and Universities

With the continuous development of information technology, computer operating system has become an important discipline in colleges and universities. In the face of the rapid development of science and technology, the teaching method of computer operating system should also be reformed accordingly, so that students can better master and use it. This paper discusses the necessity of teaching reform of computer operating system course, discusses its existing problems, and puts forward some suggestions for improvement.

A linguística brasileira nas décadas de 1960-1970: associações científicas e afiliações teóricas

The article takes up facts of the institutionalization of linguistics as a university discipline in Brazil in the period 1960-1970 and historical episodes of a movement of formation of a university culture in Brazilian linguistics are narrated. To this end, aspects of the constitution and development of a field of research and teaching are the focus of observation. The historiography of linguistics is the theoretical-methodological perspective that conducts the description and analysis of historical fragments taken up with the purpose of pointing out specificities of processes of institutionalization of knowledge about language. The formation of groups and theoretical affiliations are the elements privileged in this historiographical narrative, which points to a history of reception of theories and attempts at unification amidst a remarkable theoretical diversity.

Philosophy’ Contribution to Human Capital Development of Researchers: Current State and Prospective Agenda

The article presents the results of the study of the role of philosophy in the training of scientific personnel. It is shown that adaptation to the challenges associated with changes in the do Russian education system and global educational trends is one of the main tasks modern Russian philosophy’s facing. The participation of philosophy in the preparation of future scientists has a special place among the problems arising in that connection. The problem originates from the ambiguous relations between philosophy and, first of all, natural sciences. Although in the Soviet system of higher education philosophy was one of the leading educational disciplines, its function with respect to science was to introduce disciplinary scientists to the only true – truly scientific – worldview; in other words, it was ideological and dogmatic in nature. This reinforced the positivism’ view on philosophy that was already formed in the scientific community in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. According to this philosophy is useless or harmful for science. It has been shown that the post-soviet period has required revision of the concept of philosophy as a scientific and university discipline, which has not been fully implemented. The paper outlines the main points that may serve as the foundation for this kind of concept, namely mutual cognitive goals, philosophy's solution of cognitive tasks assumed by the existence of science, development of cognitive skills necessary for scientists, and initiation of knowledge that forms the ground for the development of non-cognitive skills within the framework of the philosophical studies. Finally, it is shown that the professional philosophical community can influence the level of philosophical education of disciplinary scientists and their perception of philosophy as part of the scientific system within the existing basic and postgraduate training courses, even in the absence of an increase in lecture and seminar courses, which is, however, also worth pursuing.

Uticaj Dr Vojislava Bakića na razvoj naučne pedagogije u Srbiji u 19. i 20. veku

Vojislav (Vuk) Bakić was born in Kordun, in the village of Perna in 1847. At that time his place of birth was in the space never precisely defined by a consistent border between Kordun and Banija as a part of Vojna Krajina which was then and a few decades later still under the direct jurisdiction of Vienna. That is how he had an early opportunity to learn German language. That fact together with his natural talents and other opportunities gave him a chance to improve his studies in Leipzig and Heidelberg. He received his PhD in Leipzig. Apart from professional literature in German, Bakić regularly used literature in French, English and Italian language. He also spoke Latin and Czech. He followed closely development of education in Serbia, surrounding countries and Europe in general. His pedagogical work took place in times when pedagogy and psychology were separating from philosophy. In that time, system of education was established as a part of modern social system. That is why the work of Vojislav Bakić must be regarded in the context of history of pedagogical science in Serbia, and at a lower level as an impact on the development of pedagogy as a science in Serbia in those times. He is an extraordinarily prolific writer of valuable pedagogical works. He was considered a pioneer in a number of pedagogical disciplines within the pedagogical science. He advocated for the high education of secondary school teachers in Serbia. He turned pedagogy into a university discipline. He organized studies of pedagogy in Serbia at the European level at the time.

The study of the creative directions of the art of the twentieth century in the classes of the theoretical cycle of disciplines in music universities and colleges

The music of the twentieth century is characterized by multidimensional concepts, a variety of composing techniques, a complex content context, which makes it difficult to master the studied material in the lessons of theoretical disciplines of music educational institutions. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the specifics of studying the musical art of the twentieth century within the disciplines of the theoretical cycle of the modern multilevel system of music education. The main method of research was a complex, requiring an interdisciplinary approach (art history, musicology, cultural studies, pedagogy, music pedagogy). The scientific novelty of the study consists in identifying optimal approaches to mastering one of the most difficult periods of composer creativity for students to perceive. As a result, a thesis formulation of the categorical and conceptual apparatus of the studied creative trends, trends and compositional styles with an accompanying illustrative series, both auditory and visual, is proposed. The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that the methodological approaches presented in the work in the study of musical art of the twentieth century will be in demand within the framework of theoretical disciplines at different levels of musical education. The materials are addressed primarily to top-level teachers (bachelor's degree, within the framework of studying the disciplines "History of Foreign Music" and "Music of the twentieth century"), however, they may be in demand, including fragmentary, and in college, and with some adaptation in high schools of music and art schools when studying the composition of the twentieth century centuries.

INVESTIGATION OF THE PROBLEM OF DESIGNING THE CONTENT OF GENERAL PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINES IN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES

Currently, a teacher is assigned new roles, that of a designer, an organizer, a mentor. He/she is presented with academic freedom in designing and selecting the content of academic disciplines. The relevance of the research lies in the unresolved issue of how to design the content of education in higher education. The purpose of the research is to study the real state of the problem of pedagogical research related to the design of the content of general professional disciplines in technical universities. For this purpose monitoring of students studying general professional disciplines at a technical university has been organized and carried out. The main tasks are to identify students' ideas about the relationship between the content of general professional disciplines and the future profession, to determine the means to motivate students to study, to determine the forms and methods of teaching demanded by students. The research methods used are questionnaire, analysis, synthesis, generalization. The Yaroslavl State Technical University was the experimental base. As a result, the data obtained will be used to identify conditions that will allow the formation of the content of general professional disciplines that correspond to the focus of training and allow students to effectively master the disciplines. Key conclusions: for further research on the problem of designing the content of a general professional discipline, it is advisable to pay attention to the following: mastering the discipline will be effective and fruitful if students have an awareness of the importance of new knowledge in their future professional activities; students need to show a visible connection between the discipline being studied and the rest of the disciplines of the curriculum; to increase the interest of students and orient the content to the direction of training, it is required to involve an employer in the educational process.

Russian insurance market: Current state and prospects for development

The review describes the content and main results of the work of the traditional annual international insurance conference, which was organized by the All-Russian Union of Insurers, the only self-regulatory organization in the insurance market, and St Petersburg State University for teachers of economic disciplines of universities and colleges of the Russian Federation and neighboring countries. The conference was attended by representatives of the legislative (State Duma of the Russian Federation) and executive (Ministry of Finance of Russia) authorities. In addition to the current state of the insurance market, both global and Russian, forecasts and models of its development in modern conditions, a wide range of problems regarding certain types of insurance and reinsurance was also considered. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the principles of sustainable development in the activities of insurance companies in the Russian economy. The consequences of the general digitalization of society for organizing the efficient operation of insurance companies, improving the quality of services provided to customers, developing fundamentally new insurance products, methods and channels for bringing them to consumers were comprehensively analyzed. The participants also discussed the problems of teaching students insurance disciplines and training personnel for insurance, organizing the educational process in the system of secondary vocational education, interaction between universities and colleges, educational institutions and insurance companies, and improving the financial literacy of the population. During the work of the postgraduate seminar, presentations were made by both young scientists from Russia and representatives of the People’s Republic of China and the Syrian Arab Republic.

Looking back, looking forward: taking stock of teacher education at (another) crossroad

ABSTRACT Teacher education in the time of the covid is unpredictable indeed. Fifty years ago, a major political overhaul of initial teacher education removed control from state education departments and began the transition of ITE to a university discipline. This led to the emergence of the teacher education professional, and the need for an association such as ATEA to maintain self-regulation and development of the field. While “on the ground” the daily practice of teacher education may not feel the same as it did in 1971, when we think about our possible futures, we argue that we must always take account of our pasts – and how they have shaped the social, political, and educational contexts we do and will experience. The things we do as teacher educators, along with how we do them, where we do them, and even who we do them with, are always changing: attention to our history is essential as we imagine shaping our future. We are indeed in an unpredictable position. We revisit our history here to argue that there is benefit now, in listening to advice from the past – and considering the possibilities of a road not yet taken.

Studying Islam and Its Adherents in Australian Universities

Islamic Studies is a relatively new, yet growing phenomenon in Australian universities. With an increased focus on Islam and Muslim in the age of War on Terror and with Australian Muslim population fast increasing, Islamic Studies is an important intellectual tool to better understand, Islam and Muslims and many challenges facing them. This paper is an investigation of the recent trends and developments in Islamic Studies as an academic discipline in Australian universities. This is an important intellectual task because Islamic Studies continues to play a significant role in Australian academia. The data were collected from literature review and are analysed descriptively. The findings of the study show that the intellectual tools developed in Islamic Studies can be deployed to build relationship between fragmented Muslim communities and between Muslims and non-Muslims particularly in multicultural Australia. Islamic Studies draws on a variety of fields making it a crossdiscipline. As such, it offer a rich and analytic investigation of world’s second largest religion and its multiple expressions. Australian universities offer Islamic studies ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate program. The topic studied include Islamic philosophy, jurisprudence, education, history, and Arabic.
