An Analysis of Library Management System Development in South Sulawesi

Website-based library services have been implemented in various libraries in Indonesia, especially those in South Sulawesi. Almost every librarian employee (librarian) routine is greatly helped by the presence of this technology. This research method was carried out with the aim of conducting a survey of 33 libraries that have implemented a library automation system. While the rest also adopted a similar system. The research method uses qualitative descriptive method through questionnaire surveys and direct visits to several libraries in South Sulawesi. We first do further exploration. The survey results showed that of the 33 libraries that filled out the questionnaire, 24 of them had used the library automation system because of the convenience provided by the use of this technology. The results of the analysis of the data obtained during the research show that the use of the Library Management System in the library fulfills two main aspects of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory. Utilization of the Library Management System is considered useful to help work in the library, including to assist users in the process of searching for information, the library provides services to users more quickly.

The Level of Awareness, Knowledge and Perception of Linked Data by Library and Information Science Professionals in Nigeria

The internet is the most compelling capacity building tool, as it exposes various forms of human knowledge. This has resulted into an overwhelming use of the search engines by digital generation in their social, education and research activities. Surprisingly, only a very little fraction of libraries’ digital collections are available on search engine results. Linked Data (LD) is an emerging set of standards and technologies that can potentially enable information systems such as libraries to publish their highly treasured wealth of knowledge, and interlink their hidden data on the web for better global accessibility. Linked Data having been presented as the future for library and information data management has triggered many institutions to experiment with it, and to learn more about the technology. Although technical challenges are paramount obstacles to the spread of LD across libraries, but the biggest issue can be attributed to lack of awareness on its potentials. This research focused on investigating the level of awareness, knowledge and perception of linked data by library and information science (LIS) professionals in Nigeria. The study made use of Survey research design, consisting of structured and open ended questions, distributed to LIS professionals in Nigeria. A total of 71 LIS professionals that spread across 17 institutions in Nigeria formed the participants for the study. The study portrays that LIS professionals in Nigeria perceive LD technology as a welcome innovative idea to facilitate records accessibility, and further move librarianship in Nigeria to the global best practices. But there is a drastic low level of knowledge on the subject of LD amongst the professionals, which is an impediment to the speedy implementation. To this effect, every institution in Nigeria needs to escalate discussions and trainings on the subject of Linked Data in order to foster the development of this powerful tool in shaping libraries collections’ management.

Introduction. This study aims to describe the collection development of the Samudra Pustaka Library.. Samudra Pustaka Library is a village library that became the best village library in 2021 nationally. The completeness of the collection is one of the indicators of the success of managing the village library management.
 Data Collection Methods. The method used was a qualitative descriptive with several data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation studies.
 Data Analysis. Data analysis was conducted by following stages of collection development developed by Evans and Saponaro 
 Results and Discussion. Samudra Pustaka Library currently does not have their own collection development policy Societal analysis was conducted based on user suggestions and identified community livelihoods.. Selection criteria focus on purchases, donations, and collaboration. Weeding activities are carried out by withdrawing collections deemed unreadable. Evaluation activities are carried out by taking into account user suggestions related to collections. Several identified constraints were found on the budget, collections, and human resources.
 Conclusion. All collection development processes are on the right track. A collection development policy should be created immediately.

Today's libraries need to be combined with technology that can simplify the tasks of librarians who are in charge of managing and serving newcomers. Because the librarian profession is less desirable. The purpose of the design to be designed is to make the librarian profession more attractive to the public. By simplifying the task of a librarian in managing the library, both the recording section and the service to the library. The method used in this study combines conventional methods with existing technology, such as creating a data processing system for outgoing and incoming books, then creating a website so that users can easily get reminders to return books from the library via email or phone number. This system has advantages in terms of book data management which is faster and easier because the data collection uses a system that has been prepared. From the user side, it is also easier to find books, borrow books and return books with the system that has been prepared. The concept of this system is to combine conventional library management systems with existing technology. In the end, this information system can help libraries to facilitate library management. In addition, it can also open and increase public interest in the librarian profession.

Learning management systems and online tools to support continuous workplace learning in academic libraries

In today’s evolving academic landscape, which has been made even more changeable by the COVID-19 global pandemic, library managers and administration must consider accessible and sustainable methods for providing continuous workplace learning programmes for library staff. Establishing sustainable continuous workplace learning and professional development initiatives is critical for library staff to remain confident in their service delivery and use of digital tools. It is possible for libraries to develop online continuous workplace learning programmes that employ an array of online tools that are already in use by the library, such as those used for course delivery, internal documentation and online communication. Specifically, as many libraries make use of learning management systems (LMS) to embed their information literacy programming for faculty and students, there is an opportunity to strategically use LMS to support professional development and continuous workplace learning for library staff. Drawing from examples for Carleton University Library, this paper explores how the use of an LMS and other online tools for continuous workplace learning can provide library staff with equitable online access to develop essential technical and practical skills, while helping to build a workplace culture that prioritises learning and skill development. Employing these tools in continuous learning and training programmes can allow libraries to become ‘learningful’ workplaces where staff at all levels are supported and are confident in their work.

The Correlation of Library Personnel Motivation Work Attitude and Work Motivation to Job Performance in Nigeria

The purpose of this study was to reconnoiter the effects of library personnel work attitude and motivation as correlates of job performance in a survey of public libraries in Kwara state, Nigeria. This study employed a descriptive survey method of correlational type. This study applied an enumeration survey technique or total census to all library personnel in a nominated public library in Kwara State of Nigeria. This study employs three objectives to guide the study. Findings showed that library personnel had a good attitude about their jobs, and library personnel work motivation showed that employees in the library are provided with good working materials, and their workplace's management provides library personnel with opportunities for training and development. Also, the study on the job performance of library personnel found that library personnel set reasonable priorities for task completion, and personnel is always on time for deadlines and completion of tasks. Conclusively, years of experience at a job correlate significantly with job performance, whereas work attitudes and motivation do not correlate significantly. Based on the results, this study suggests a good relationship between library management and personnel to ensure a positive working attitude. Also, the library personnel should be able to establish a good working relationship to reduce the possibility of turnover.

The purpose of writing is to describe the management of the SLiMS application (senayan library management system) in the madrasah tsanawiyah library in Banyumas. The result is that SLiMS is an application used to enter library book data, manage and control it. The benefits of SLiMS are speeding up work in the library, improving job performance, increasing work productivity, achieving optimal work effectiveness and making work easier. With the SliMS application, librarians can improve the performance of librarians effectively and efficiently. Everything can be seen from the preparation, service, management and even control can be carried out effectively and efficiently.

Work motivation, job satisfaction, work-family balance, and job commitment of library personnel in Universities in North-Central Nigeria

Increasingly, organizations are facing turbulent and competitive times. Hence, the need for universities to capitalize on the robustness and diversity of their employees to maximize their success by attracting and developing an engaged, healthy, and high-performing workforce through the provision of stimulating work environments that will promote work-family balance, work motivation, job satisfaction and overall job commitment. This study was designed to investigate the effects of work motivation, job satisfaction, and work-family balance on job commitment as well as work motivation and work-family balance as they affect job satisfaction of library personnel in universities in North-central Nigeria. The total enumeration technique was used to cover all the 926 library personnel in the universities in North-central Nigeria. The validated questionnaire was used to collect data on 926 library personnel out of which 842 responded. The response rate achieved was 91 %. The study found that work-family balance, work motivation and job satisfaction had significant effect on the job commitment of the respondents. Job satisfaction has the most significant effect (41 %) on job commitment. It is therefore, recommended that university administrators, library managers and most especially policy makers in the education sector should give adequate attention to work-family balance, work motivation, and job satisfaction when planning to improve job commitment of their employees. In addition, they should consider work motivation and work-family balance to improve job satisfaction of the library employees.

Impact of social media addiction on librarians' performance: mediating role of task distraction, moderating role of effective self-control

PurposeThe study was initiated to test the relationship of social media site addiction on librarians' performance. Furthermore, the study also tested the mediating role of task distraction and moderating role of effective self-control in aforesaid relationship.Design/methodology/approachThis was an empirical study, and data for the research were collected through a standardized questionnaire from 503 librarians who were having Facebook accounts and are questionnaire developed through “Google Forms” and the link of the questionnaire was distributed using Facebook groups. Data was analyzed using descriptive analysis, correlation, Baron and Kenny's approach, and Normal Test Theory.FindingsResults indicate that social media addiction is an important factor for that is reducing librarians' performance. At the same time task distraction also adds to negative impact of social media addiction on librarians' performance. However, effective self-control can reduce the negative impact of social media addiction on their performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis research has some important theoretical as well as practical implications for librarians, library management, and well as for policy makers and government.Originality/valueSocial media is commonly used for communication but when it becomes addiction, it can reduce the employees' performance. Most of existing researched focused on positive aspects of social media; only few researches explored the negative impacts of social media. The proposed relationship was never tested on librarians. This study filled this literature gap and proposed as well as empirically tested a model for evaluating negative impact of social media on librarians' performance.

THE ROLE OF LIBRARIES IN THE LEARNING PROCESS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

The library is an integral part of a school, as well as a source of learning and a medium of self-development for students in literacy activities. But in practice, it still has problems, such as a lack of a sincere understanding of the role and function of school libraries in the quality learning process. This study aims to describe the role of libraries as learning resources for elementary school students. In addition to the quality of student literacy at SDN 011 Bangko Bakti, Rokan Hilir Regency. This research uses a descriptive quality approach, with interview techniques to students, library managers, principals, and class teachers. Data analysis techniques used with data collection, data reduction, displaying data and drawing conclusions. Test the validity of the data, namely by triangulation technique. The results of the study revealed that the role of school libraries as a source of learning for elementary school students has a close relationship between the two, libraries with a good management system tend to influence students' interest in visiting and using the library as a means of learning and also refer to the quality of the impact of literacy. This is studied through the results of interview analysis data and observations.

Service Quality Methods and Practices to Improve Library Administration: A Pilot Study

The aim of this study is to identify the differentiated services university libraries are able to offer students by prioritizing service quality factors using the various dimensions and factors of service quality. The paper proposes a study that adopts the Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (PZB) service quality model to construct a model for measuring the service quality of a university library. The study conducts analysis using an expert questionnaire and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to identify students’ needs with respect to the library’s service quality. This study covered 44 different graduate institutes, but it is aimed at postgraduate student-oriented university libraries, which may not reveal the real status of different types of libraries. The five dimensions of service quality identified in this study by order of importance are responsiveness, tangibility, reliability, assurance, and empathy. The first three criteria of the twenty-two assessment criteria are “The staff is unwilling to help students”, “The library’s facilities match up with the type of services” and “Students are unable to receive fast services from staff”. This article seeks to provide innovative methods for previous library management in the university library and the research results could also provide useful references with social implications and novel value to the university library’s management team to improve the library’s service quality.

Extent of Accessibility and Utilization of Reference Materials by Nigerian University Undergraduates

The reference section of every library remains an important arm of such library. It contains materials needed for teaching, learning, community development and research. However, studies have shown that most of these materials are rarely consulted by library users, hence, the rationale of the present study which investigated the extent to which reference materials are accessed and utilized by the undergraduates of library and information science (LIS), Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo. Six research objectives with corresponding research questions were considered and answered. The descriptive survey method was adopted using a total population of 133 final year undergraduates of LIS, TSU, Jalingo. Furthermore, the complete census technique was employed to study the entire population. A fifty-eight (58) items questionnaire was used for data collection. 133 copies were distributed, but 127 (95.5%) copies were returned and found suitable for data analysis. The data analysis was done using descriptive statistics of mean scores and frequency counts. Findings revealed a high extent of accessibility of a good number of reference materials. Few of these materials were reported to be utilized to a high extent leading to a relationship between the extent of accessibility and utilization. However, numerous challenges were identified to be facing the accessibility and utilization of reference materials by the undergraduates. The study concludes that the extent of accessibility determines the extent of utilization which all proved to be high in the library studied. It was, however, among other things, recommended that the management of university libraries should intensify efforts to improve the number and quality of reference materials provided and make them accessible to their users.

Pengaruh Perbaikan Pelayanan Perpustakaan Dalam Peningkatan Minat Baca Siswa-Siswi Di SMP Kartini Taman

Libraries play an important role in determining how the academic climate in schools is formed. To maximize scientific activities, the library is organized as a hierarchical system with many purposes and functions. The main reason why the goals and functions of libraries cannot be implemented effectively is because most of the school libraries in Indonesia currently do not meet the demands, both in terms of convenience and selection of library materials. Therefore, steps must be taken to restore proper library operations. The impact of better library services on the reading interest of SMP Kartini Taman students was one of the topics raised. This project is just one of many that Kampus Merdeka is undertaking as part of the Teaching Campus initiative. The service period in 2023 lasts from February 20 to June 16. Serving at the Junior High School which is located on Jl. Ki Suryo Jati Utara, Kedungturi Village, Taman District, Sidoarjo Regency, is the responsibility of our team. Through the implementation of school library management reform initiatives, this program seeks to restore the function of the school library in accordance with its vision and mission. The planning stage (Planning), the organizing stage (Organizing), the implementation stage (Actuating), and the control stage are the first steps in improving the administrative services of the implemented school library. Collecting data in this service is carried out using a qualitative descriptive methodology which includes interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Based on the initiatives made and the findings, the children's enthusiasm for reading in class increased. Thus, efforts to improve library services are ensured to be successful and right on target.

Information management in school libraries: a systematic review of the literature

The study approaches information management focused on the context of school libraries through a systematic literature review carried out in the following databases: CAPES, EBSCO and SciELO journals, using the descriptors "information management" AND " school library. Thus, the general objective of this research proposes to carry out a systematic literature review on studies related to information management in school libraries. Therefore, we intend to discuss the concept of information management in the context of school libraries; carry out a mapping of articles that deal with the object of study; and analyze the works that approach the proposed theme. The searches resulted in 9 articles, from which the information considered relevant for analysis was extracted. The results point to the importance of information management in the context of school libraries so that knowledge and information can be managed in a planned, organized, interdisciplinary and intentional way.

Development of an Integrated Library Management System (ILMS)

Abstract— This document presents the design and development of an integrated library management system based on the needs assessment conducted in response to technology, infrastructure, existing condition, facilities, technology readiness of human resources, automation sufficiency level, and support of technical staff among ninety-eight (98) respondents using the descriptive developmental method. Developing a system based on research is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the system. This approach addresses specific problems or challenges by incorporating evidence-based practices and the latest advancements in the field. The findings include the need to mentor the respondents on how to use technology and the influence of others as a factor in using technology. There is a difficulty encountered in navigating schools’ virtual libraries, unavailability of materials, and visiting it is not enticing anymore since information is available from the internet. The rarity of introducing new technology and the absence of 3D printers are common pain points. However, improvements on the library website, email/chat with a librarian, online research guides, online book reservations, and book delivery service were noticed. Research gaps and recommendations from the selected Library Management System were also employed as additional input in the development of the system. A deeper understanding of the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Robotics, and Embedded Systems through training, webinars, and workshops are necessary for the librarian. These technologies could be applied in library operations and transactions. Procurement of the latest equipment which includes 3D printers and the development of integrated library systems are steps to take to improve the library's services and operation. By combining the results of assessments and incorporating new knowledge derived from research gaps and recommendations, provided a stronger foundation for the system. It also provides validation and grounding in scientific principles, ensuring that the system is well-informed and effective in its implementation. Ultimately, developing a system based on research leads to more informed and effective solutions to pain points and challenges.

(1) Libraries play an important role in all institutions, particularly schools. Libraries in schools exist and must serve as a driving force in realizing and creating the best learning environment possible. To support this, library management services must be revolutionized by developing or applying information technology. (2) Understanding the significance of putting in place an automated system in the school library. (3) The method for writing this article was developed through a review of the literature. (4) stated that there are six important reasons why library automation must be implemented, the first being demands on the number and quality of library services, the second being demands on shared use of collections, the third being demands to streamline human resources, the fourth being demands for time efficiency, the fifth being demands for accuracy information services, and the sixth being the diversity of information managed by the library. (5) The Industrial Revolution, which affected many fields, including school libraries, enabled better service and management. If you pay attention to the legal basis, needs, and rapidly developing technology, library acceleration, particularly good library management, can be carried out by any school library. Management, service, and information accessibility will be more effective and efficient for school library managers and users if the six reasons for the importance of implementing automation in libraries are considered.
