Statistical Analysis of Students’ Learning Effectiveness in Online Courses Offered by British Partners in China-UK Joint Education Program

In the context of internationalization, China-UK Joint Education Programs are receiving increasing attention from universities. Based on the difficulties faced in China-UK Joint Education Program, this paper adopts a questionnaire survey method to study the learning effectiveness of students majoring in digital media technology in the China-UK Joint Education Program at Guangxi University of Finance and Economics, focusing on four aspects: learning materials, learning content, teacher conditions, and student learning outcomes. The research analysis in this paper not only provides strong support for the construction of China-UK Joint Education Program but also offers references for other China-UK Joint Education Programs.

Transcending failure: A study on the “failed domestication” of online news for young visually impaired people in China

Drawing on the triple articulation framework, this study explores the “failed domestication” of online news consumption among young visually impaired people (YVIP), focusing on technological objects, symbolic environments, and individual texts. The findings suggest that “failed domestication” is not merely a consequence of limitations in technical design or social contexts but rather the result of “negotiation” between individuals and media. YVIP develop unique media usage strategies by simplifying operational procedures, foregoing updates, filtering out news irrelevant to their daily lives, and personalizing their interpretation of texts. In contrast to the notion of “failure” rooted in ableism, these behaviors reflect a deep understanding by the visually impaired of their capabilities and specific needs, constituting a form of “alternative success.” The use of digital media by people with disabilities is a process of autonomous choice rather than the “enforcing normalcy.” Therefore, this study advocates for creating a more flexible and human-centric media ecosystem that enables people with disabilities to choose appropriate media usage patterns based on their individual needs and preferences, thus promoting genuine digital inclusivity.

Competing strategies between public and private self: separation and diffusion of the entrepreneurial identity of solo entrepreneurs on social media

Social media are gaining significance in organizations and their business strategies. Therefore, the self-presentation of solo entrepreneurs on social media requires a strategic analysis and concept due to their specific business structure. Solo entrepreneurs work on their own without having any employees in their company. In other words, they stay as the personification of a one-(wo)man-firm. The business structure of solo entrepreneurs is particular since they operate in the most decentralized form of a firm, which is a one-person firm. In some way, solo entrepreneurs can be regarded as independent (self-employed) laborers. When presenting themselves online, they must decide which characteristics of the private self should be emphasized and which should be incorporated into the entrepreneurial identity to be useful to the business. Our qualitative study conducted twelve semi-structured interviews with solo entrepreneurs to understand how they present themselves on social media and how the solo entrepreneur offered online differs from the private self. We have found that there are features of the personal self that are kept strictly out of the entrepreneurial sphere, but there are areas that make a mix of personal and entrepreneurial selves. Our results help to understand the group of solo entrepreneurs and their unique characteristics in an increasingly important field of digital media.

From Individual Disconnection to Collective Practices for Journalists’ Wellbeing

Journalists are increasingly experiencing the negative consequences of online news transformations, such as trolling and harassment, as well as audience distrust. Despite acute need, intra-organisational efforts to support journalists’ online wellbeing have so far been limited. More recently, research has explored how journalists have turned to individual practices of disconnection, such as blocking, muting, or small breaks from online media to mediate the impacts of their everyday online labour (Bossio et al., 2024). Building on this research, this study explores how these individual practices are moving toward collective practices of disconnection. Using interviews with 21 journalists, this study traces how emergent collective practices might contribute to systemic change in journalism. We argue that in lieu of intra-organizational support, journalists seek to disconnect through informal sharing of experiences and support as well as collective efforts toward inter-organisational training and intra-organisational formalization mentoring programs.

The Impact of Digital Media on Private Sector Investment in Uttarakhand's Tourism Industry

In this research paper, I have thoroughly described about the topic “The Impact of Digital Media on Private Sector Investment in Uttarakhand's Tourism Industry.” The study investigates the substantial influence of digital media on private sector investment in Uttarakhand's tourism industry, emphasizing the increasing significance of digital marketing, social media, and online platforms in investment decisions. The total investment in Uttarakhand's tourism industry increased from ₹1,200 crores to ₹4,000 crores between 2018 and 2022, indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25%. The survey results indicated that social media platforms have become an essential factor in investment decisions, with 70% of private sector participants reporting that they used social media to inform their investment decisions in 2022. The study also identified opportunities for digital media to further enhance private sector investment. 80% of participants believed that digital marketing would play a critical role in attracting visitors to Uttarakhand in the next two years. The increasing significance of digital media in investment decisions was underscored by the data collected through semi-structured interviews and surveys. Tourism businesses in Uttarakhand have significantly increased their use of digital media over the past five years. The study's results indicate that private sector investment in Uttarakhand's tourism industry has been significantly influenced by digital media. The industry's investment decisions are expected to continue to be influenced by the increasing significance of social media and digital marketing.

Nutritional guidance through digital media for glycemic control of women with gestational diabetes mellitus: a randomized clinical trial.

To compare the effectiveness of outpatient nutritional guidance supplemented by digital media with exclusively standard outpatient nutritional guidance in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This was a randomized, patient-blinded clinical trial conducted at the Diabetes and Pregnancy outpatient clinic from February 2021 to January 2023. Pregnant women with GDM were randomly allocated into two groups: the control group received exclusively outpatient nutritional guidance, and the Intervention Group received outpatient nutritional guidance along with reminders via WhatsApp. Dietary intake (calories, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and fibers) was evaluated using 24 h dietary recalls. Glycemic control and the need for pharmacological treatment were also assessed. A total of 81 women were included, 34 allocated to the control group, and 47 to the intervention group. Patients were followed for a period of 4-8weeks. Significant differences were observed in some points of glycemic control between the two groups over the follow-up period. There were no statistical differences in pharmacological therapy (p=0.498); 188 24 h dietary recall were conducted inthe control group and 290 in the intervention group. Astatistically significant increase in lipid intake was observed in the intervention group over the follow-up period compared to the control group (p<0.001). No changes in calorie intake, other macronutrients, or fiber consumption were noted. Glycemic control was significantly improved with the addition of frequent text reminders about dietary choices, and a significant increase in lipid intake was seen in all women, more so in the reminder group.

Digital addiction and its impact on the mental wellbeing of adolescents

Digital addiction has become an intriguing concern over the recent years because of the rapid explosion of gadgets and other online platforms attracting youth to spend most of their time online. Excessive use of digital platforms has been associated with many psychological issues. The results revealed significant correlations among digital addiction, depression and stress among both males and females. Males were more likely to be digitally addicted than females were. In contrast there were females on the depression scale. The study emphasizes the need to implement robust policies for schools and other educational institutes to make healthy practices for using digital media and to create alertness regarding the adverse effects of digital addiction over mental health.

The Influence Of Digital Marketing And VAT (Value Added Tax) Literacy On Consumer Purchasing Behavior

This study aimed to examine the impact of digital marketing and VAT (Value Added Tax) literacy on consumer purchasing behavior. It investigates how marketing through digital media, along with VAT literacy, can affect respondents as consumers across both online and offline platforms. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing primary data collected through questionnaires and multiple linear regression techniques. The population consists of 387 students from “Universitas Advent Indonesia,” who graduated in 2023, with a sample of 151 students from the economics faculty. The sampling method used is probability sampling, resulting in 82 respondents. The independent variables are digital marketing and VAT (Value Added Tax) literacy, while the dependent variable is consumer purchasing behavior. This study utilizes SPSS 27 software. The findings indicate that digital marketing and VAT literacy, when considered together, influence consumer purchasing behavior. Additionally, the results of the study shows that effective digital marketing strategies can strengthen consumer relationships and enhance loyalty, making them essential in today’s digital age. However, VAT literacy has little impact on purchasing behavior since the surveyed respondents already have high VAT literacy.

Digital Dis/Connection as Everyday Boundary Work Among Hong Kong BN(O) Migrants in the UK

While digital media can be seen to keep alive social connections among migrants across borders, the impact of how digital disconnection has redrawn migrants’ boundaries has not been adequately researched. Migrants subjected to the dual border-and-boundary work of Western host countries and their non-Western home countries make for complicated self–other boundary narratives. This study explores the everyday boundary work of migrants originating from Hong Kong, a former British colony, who have chosen to relocate to the UK through the British National (Overseas) (BN[O]) visa scheme. The scheme was catalysed by the 2019 political upheaval in Chinese Hong Kong and the UK–Hong Kong colonial affiliation. Through the lens of dis/connection assemblage, we conceptualise digital dis/connections as a form of boundary work and conduct in-depth interviews and thematic analysis of 14 BN(O)s. We demonstrate that digital disconnection can be seen as a socio-political practice related to identity regulation by situating BN(O)s’ digital media practices within the political projects of belonging in the UK, Hong Kong, and China. Through a matrix of disconnected approaches, BN(O)s shape boundaries around identity politics in terms of social positions, a sense of belonging, and social relations. The political meaning of digital disconnection is highlighted through its fracture of connected space-time and resilient management of social relationships&lt;strong&gt;.&lt;/strong&gt;

TABARRUJ: SAYYID QUTHB'S PERSPECTIVE IN TAFSIR FI ZHILAL AL-QUR’AN

This study focuses on the concept of Tabarruj as interpreted by Sayyid Quthb in his Tafsir fi Zhilal al-Qur’an. The research explores the essence, existence, and impact of Tabarruj from Quthb's perspective, offering an in-depth analysis of how this concept is related to faith, social behavior, and gender roles in Islam. The essence of Tabarruj is linked to the weakening of faith and human morality, influenced by destructive social environments, and the fading of one's spiritual essence. Its existence manifests in specific behaviors, particularly among women, such as leaving the house without necessity, excessive social interaction with men, flirtatious behavior, and immodest dress. The study identifies significant impacts of Tabarruj, including the rise of social ills, the erosion of women's dignity, and the diminishing blessings of Allah in human life. The research contributes to the scholarly understanding of Islamic teachings on modesty, faith, and gender by examining Quthb’s interpretation of Tabarruj and its relevance to contemporary issues. Future research could compare Quthb’s views on Tabarruj with modern interpretations of modesty across different cultural and historical contexts, as well as examine the influence of digital and social media on the concept of Tabarruj among younger generations in Muslim societies.

Buddy4Study: Technology-Driven CSR Initiative

Buddy4Study, under the leadership of Burnwal, aimed to extend its reach to thirty million students across India, mainly targeting those in remote and underserved regions. Recognizing the challenges of reaching such a vast and diverse population, Burnwal enlisted the expertise of Mr Gitesh Sharma to develop a strategic plan. Sharma’s approach involved leveraging traditional and digital media to maximize visibility, including newspapers, television, radio and internet marketing. He also proposed innovative grassroots initiatives, such as engaging MBA students in internship programmes to lead village educational awareness campaigns. Additionally, Sharma recommended forming partnerships with NGOs to further amplify these efforts in rural areas, where access to educational resources is often limited. Digital marketing was identified as a key tool, focusing on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn and on mobile-based ads to reach a broader student audience. Sharma also emphasized the importance of meticulously planned digital platforms—such as mobile apps and websites—that offer clear, detailed guidance for scholarship applicants. Burnwal considered whether these strategies would effectively help Buddy4Study reach its ambitious target and impact the educational landscape in India.

Social Media as a Tool for Cultural Preservation among Diaspora Communities

Social media has become a vital tool for diaspora groups to preserve their cultural legacy in an globally connected world. This study examines how distributed communities preserve and spread their cultural customs, languages, and practices through the use of digital media. It looks at how diaspora communities use social media to maintain their cultural identities and cultural heritage via particular case studies. The study highlights how social media may effectively promote cross-cultural communication, facilitate in the development of communities, and help close the gap between the old and new worlds. The study's findings provide understanding on the dynamics of cultural preservation in the digital era and the ways in which social media might promote a variety of cultural environments throughout the world.

Interlopers by choice, or interlopers by circumstance? Alexey Navalny and alternative journalistic projects in contemporary autocratic Russia

In February 2024, Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalny died in a Western Siberian prison aged just 47. Known as a vocal opposition leader in Russia in the 2010s, he was regularly trying to be elected but also organised the largest mass anti-establishment and anti-corruption protests in Russia before his untimely death. Deprived of access and coverage in the Russian mainstream media, Navalny and his associates established their own media channels, including personal YouTube channels and online media outlets such as Navalny LIVE to avoid censorship and expose the corruption and abuses of power of high-ranking officials in Russia. However, at the same time, Navalny and his colleagues cannot be labelled as ‘journalists’ in a normative sense. They were not professional journalists and had not gone through the processes of journalistic socialisation, but rather ‘tried on’ journalistic roles and investigative journalism practices to expose corrupt elites. In this sense, Navalny and his team can be called (explicit) interlopers who adopt journalistic identities and force a reconsideration of what journalists are and journalism is. In this study, we look at the case of Navalny and his team and their investigative documentaries on YouTube. We relate his practice to the journalistic concept of (explicit) interlopers, analyse how their unique and alternative journalistic project has diversified a largely monopolised and authoritarian Russian public sphere, and propose extending the notion of interlopers by differentiating between interlopers by choice, and interlopers by circumstance.

Digital post/colonial feminism: Poetics and politics of digital literary activism by Arab women

ABSTRACT This article proposes digital post/colonial feminism as a viable theoretical and conceptual framework to understand and analyse Arab women’s literary resistance to patriarchal and post/colonial powers in light of the new communicational paradigm shift of digitality. It provides an interdisciplinary and contextual engagement with digital literary works to transcend monothematic approaches, considering the role of digital tools and techniques in enabling new forms of feminist literary activism. It is motivated by the absence of a robust theoretical framework that adequately encapsulates Global South women’s digital literary resistance – particularly Arab women – in the broader context of postcolonial feminism. It aspires to fill this gap by tracing Arab women’s literary resistance practices in digitality, arguing that the digital media helps female artists challenge dominant narratives, amplify marginalized voices, and reclaim collective memory. Two digital literary works by Arab women are investigated to capture their new digital aesthetics and tools of resistance.

The 2024 presidential election is an important moment in the political life of a country. This study aims to analyze the role of various aspects of political communsication in the presidential election, including political campaigns, political propaganda, public opinion, political marketing and advertising, and political negotiations. The research methodology uses a holistic approach with quantitative and qualitative data collection through online surveys, interviews, and media content analysis. Key findings highlight the significance of social media in shaping public opinion and the political communication strategies used by candidates. Practical implications of these findings include recommendations for more effective political campaign strategies and the development of more transparent communication policies.

Community learning for marketing management and digital marketing of Jasmine Rice by Nong Hin Housewives Group, Ratchaburi Province

Background and Aim: The Nong Hin Housewives Group has been instrumental in cultivating and marketing Jasmine rice, a product renowned for its quality. However, the group faces challenges in adopting modern marketing strategies, particularly in the digital realm. This study aims to analyze the current marketing practices, identify gaps in digital marketing skills, and develop a framework for effective community learning. By leveraging digital tools, the group can enhance its marketing efforts, reach a broader audience, and increase product sales. Materials and Methods: This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Surveys were distributed to 200 community members across different generations to assess their digital media usage and preferences. In-depth interviews were conducted with key members of the Nong Hin Housewives Group to understand their marketing challenges and aspirations. Data were analyzed using statistical methods for the survey responses and thematic analysis for qualitative data. Results: The findings reveal a significant disparity in digital media usage among different generations, with Facebook emerging as the most popular platform. The data indicate that 66.50% of respondents actively use Facebook for marketing purposes. The study also identified challenges related to digital literacy within the community, affecting the effective use of online marketing tools. Despite these challenges, there is a strong interest in learning and adapting to digital marketing strategies. Conclusion: The research underscores the importance of community learning in enhancing the marketing management and digital marketing capabilities of the Nong Hin Housewives Group. By investing in digital literacy training and developing tailored marketing strategies, the group can significantly improve its outreach and sales of Jasmine rice. The study emphasizes the need for ongoing support and resources to facilitate the transition into effective digital marketing practices.

Participatory Community Learning to Develop a Digital Market Management System for Community Enterprises and Stable Occupation Groups Nam Phrik Kaeng Krua Khanong, Song Khanong Subdistrict, Sam Phran District, Nakhon Pathom Province

Background and Aim: Digital Marketing Management is critical for successfully promoting products and services in the digital age. It allows businesses to reach a larger audience, interact with customers in real-time, and tailor strategies based on data insights to boost growth and brand awareness. This study investigates the digital marketing practices of the Song Khanong Occupation Group in Prik Kaeng Krua Khanong, Nakhon Pathom Province, aiming to enhance customer engagement, brand awareness, and sales outcomes by focusing on Generation Z and Baby Boomers. Materials and Methods: A mixed-methods approach was utilized, combining surveys of 200 community members on digital media usage, content preferences, brand perception, and customer satisfaction, along with interviews with key stakeholders about marketing strategies. Data analysis involved calculating mean scores to assess satisfaction with digital marketing elements. Results: Results showed high satisfaction among Generation Z, with Facebook as the preferred platform (mean score: 4.86). Infographics and videos received the highest scores (4.93 and 4.80, respectively), while Baby Boomers valued brand aesthetics (overall score: 4.77). Tools like Chatbots and QR Codes enhanced user experience significantly. Conclusion: The study underscores the need for effective digital marketing strategies in community enterprises to boost engagement and brand recognition. High satisfaction levels indicate that tailored content and a robust online presence are essential for customer retention. Future efforts should focus on continuous improvement and leveraging technology for better communication, enabling sustainable growth for community enterprises in Song Khanong.

“It is the best Tool we have, but that doesn’t mean it’s a Good Tool”: Czech Civically Engaged Youth Actors on Tackling the Ambiguity of Using Digital Media

This paper explores the ambiguities of using digital media in youth’s civic engagement, acknowledging the unprecedented transformation of the senses of public and private, and the pivotal role of the digital context in shaping citizenship. It presents results from a thematic analysis of post-sorting interviews conducted within a Q research among civically engaged youth actors aged 13-18 (n=20) from Czechia, mapping their experiences with digital media. The study identifies six key themes that point to the ever- present balancing of the risks and opportunities in pursuing the participants’ agendas online. The results reveal a high level of online resilience and digital literacy of the participants, exposing coping strategies they adopt while navigating the online spaces. The study also reports on the transformed notion of sociality, pointing to the glocal implications for active engagement in the digital age, which allows garnering support from peer groups and communities on a transnational basis.

Pushing Boundaries—Hybrid Advertising in Digital News Media: A Content Analysis of Media Kits

Hybrid advertising, such as native ads or advertorials, is a vital revenue stream for digital news media, but is normatively challenging, since it blurs the boundaries between advertising and journalism. We lack an overview of the types of hybrid advertising that news organizations deem acceptable, and insight into how they discursively legitimize blurring boundaries by publicly promoting such advertising. News media list and promote the advertising forms they offer to advertisers in their media kits, but communication scholars have overlooked this rich information source. In a quantitative content analysis of media kits, we examined portfolios of hybrid advertising offered by digital news media and how openly they promote the hybrid nature thereof. The results show that digital news media most commonly offer sponsored editorial content mimicking articles but also various other forms. We develop a taxonomy of the types of hybrid advertising based on their label, media format, and type of hybridity. News organizations openly promote the boundary-blurring nature while rarely highlighting disclosure policies. The bold promotion of ever-more forms of hybrid advertising discursively contributes to normalizing transgression of the iconic wall separating journalism from advertising and makes it increasingly difficult for audiences, regulators, and scholars to keep track.
