Gender Differences in Usage of Pathao’s Two-Wheeler Services

The study tests the significant difference in usage patterns of Pathao Services between two different groups: male and female. In this context, the Independent Samples t-Test has been used to test equality in the mean usage of Pathao Services for both groups with and without the assumption of equal and unequal variances. We tested the sample of 397 participants, and the variance between these groups was found to be unequal by the Levene's Test showing the significant difference. The results reveal a statistically significant mean difference in the use of Pathao Services between the two groups. Precisely, the average of difference for 0.199, at 95% confidence interval, falls within a range of 0.087 to 0.310 when variances are considered to be equal and within a range of 0.073 to 0.325 when variances are taken to be unequal. As a matter of fact, the p-values for both tests were below the conventional alpha level of 0.05, meaning the differences observed are significant. The results derived from unequal variances tests were considered more reliable because of the significant F-value obtained from Levene's Test. These results therefore indicate that one group is using Pathao Services more than the other. The significant differences of usage would require further examination of demographic, socio-economic, or even behavioral reasons responsible for these differences and might be useful in service provision and intervention. This thus calls for more research to find the root causes of such and perhaps inform strategies to help improve service engagement across diverse user groups.

Ethnicity and outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal disorders attending an emergency department serving a multi-ethnic population

BackgroundEthnic inequalities in acute health acute care are not well researched. We examined how attendee ethnicity influenced outcomes of emergency care in unselected patients presenting with a gastrointestinal (GI) disorder.MethodsA descriptive, retrospective cohort analysis of anonymised patient level data for University Hospitals of Leicester emergency department attendees, from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021, receiving a diagnosis of a GI disorder was performed. The primary exposure of interest was self-reported ethnicity, and the two outcomes studied were admission to hospital and whether patients underwent clinical investigations. Confounding variables including sex and age, deprivation index and illness acuity were adjusted for in the analysis. Chi-squared and Kruskal–Wallis tests were used to examine ethnic differences across outcome measures and covariates. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine associations between ethnicity and outcome measures.ResultsOf 34,337 individuals, median age 43 years, identified as attending the ED with a GI disorder, 68.6% were White. Minority ethnic patients were significantly younger than White patients. Multiple emergency department attendance rates were similar for all ethnicities (overall 18.3%). White patients had the highest median number of investigations (6, IQR 3–7), whereas those from mixed ethnic groups had the lowest (2, IQR 0–6). After adjustment for age, sex, year of attendance, index of multiple deprivation and illness acuity, all ethnic minority groups remained significantly less likely to be investigated for their presenting illness compared to White patients (Asian: aOR 0.80, 95% CI 0.74–0.87; Black: 0.67, 95% CI 0.58–0.79; mixed: 0.71, 95% CI 0.59–0.86; other: 0.79, 95% CI 0.67–0.93; p < 0.0001 for all). Similarly, after adjustment, minority ethnic attendees were also significantly less likely to be admitted to hospital (Asian: aOR 0.63, 95% CI 0.60–0.67; Black: 0.60, 95% CI 0.54–0.68; mixed: 0.60, 95% CI 0.51–0.71; other: 0.61, 95% CI 0.54–0.69; p < 0.0001 for all).ConclusionsSignificant differences in usage patterns and disparities in acute care outcomes for patients of different ethnicities with GI disorders were observed in this study. These differences persisted after adjustment both for confounders and for measures of deprivation and illness acuity and indicate that minority ethnic individuals are less likely to be investigated or admitted to hospital than White patients.

Study On Relationship Between Social Media And Its Usage By The Teachers Of Higher Education Institutions

The purpose of the study is to analyze the relation that exist between time, age and gender of the employees of higher education institutions and differences in usage pattern of social media and any relationship if exits between the perceived usefulness and productivity of employees with respect to social media platforms. Employees from reputed higher education institutions from 4 cities of Uttar Pradesh namely Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow and Prayagraj were taken as population. Primary data was collected from teaching faculty of the given institutions through random sampling. The aggregate number of respondents for the research work 524. Hypothesis testing was done by using Spearman’s Rho formula. The study provides an insight about how the mentioned factors affect the social media usage as it has always been a matter of debate.

Effect of age on U.S. gynecologic patients’ use of social media for women’s health information

ObjectiveTo compare use, timing, and perceived benefit of social media for women’s health information between different aged gynecologic patients. MethodsWe performed a cross-sectional survey of patients presenting to a U.S. academic gynecology clinic over three months in spring 2021. We compared social media use for women’s health information among patients of different age groups. ResultsMost respondents use social media to learn about women’s health (57.0 %), believe women’s health information should be available on social media (92.4 %), and find it helpful in making health decisions (58.5 %), without significant differences by age group. With each increasing decade of age, patients increasingly reported actively searching for women’s health information rather than passively finding it on a feed (p = 0.024 for overall comparison) and using social media for health information specifically around doctor’s visits (p = 0.023 for overall comparison), and less commonly reported trusting social media influencers (p = 0.030 for overall comparison). ConclusionReproductive and non-reproductive aged patients all highly utilize social media for women’s health information, however there are differences in usage patterns by age. Practice ImplicationsUnderstanding social media use patterns can facilitate direction to and creation of accessible, medically-accurate and patient-friendly content.

Sex-related differences in medical cannabis use: A nation-wide database study

IntroductionCannabis use is associated with mental illness among men and women, especially induction or exacerbation of psychosis, anxiety, and depression. Although safety and efficacy of cannabis in most medical conditions have not been established, use of medical cannabis is growing exponentially. In particular, albeit sex-related differences in the activity of the endocannabinoid system in animals and humans, differential effects of cannabis on men and women have rarely been sought.ObjectivesTo characterize patterns of use and adverse effects experienced by men and women using medical cannabis.MethodsData from the Israeli national database of patients licensed to use medical cannabis in Israel from January 2014 to December 2021 was analyzed. The database includes indications for cannabis use, monthly cannabis quantities, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) concentrations, and reports of adverse effects. Comparative statistics were used to evaluate the sex related differences.Results161,644 persons (62% men) were issued a license to use medical cannabis during the study period. Men are significantly younger than women (50.5±19.1 vs. 56.5±18.4). The leading indications among both men and women are chronic pain (58% of men, 57% of women), symptoms related to oncological disease and chemotherapy treatment (21% of men, 24% of women) and post-traumatic stress disorder (9% of men, 6% of women). Men consume significantly higher monthly quantities at the beginning of treatment compared to women (31.6 gram vs. 29.3 gram) with a higher THC concentration (13.9% vs. 11.6%) and lower CBD concentration (5.3% vs. 6.7%). Over two years of use, there is an increase among both men and women in the amount and THC concentration, and a decrease in the CBD concentration. The differences between men and women remain significant throughout the whole period. Data on adverse effects are available for 28,629 men and 17,204 women (28.6% of men, 28.0% of women). Women report significantly more physical adverse effects (RR 1.48 [95%CI 1.39-1.57]), anxiety (RR 1.45 [95%CI 1.35-1.56]), depression (RR 1.36 [95%CI 0.95-1.96]) and derealization (RR 3.44 [95%CI 2.42-4.89]).ConclusionsAlthough the prevalence of medical conditions for which medical cannabis is indicated are similar for both genders, approximately 60% more men consume medical cannabis. While consuming lower cannabis amount and THC concentration, women report more physical and psychiatric adverse effects than men. Understanding the differences in usage patterns and adverse effects between men and women will enable more accurate policy determinations and more effective and safer treatment strategies.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

Impact of Using Online Health Management Tools on Patient Perception of Healthcare Quality: A Multiple Chronic Conditions and Generational Perspective

While access and adoption issues related to online health management tools (OHMT) have been studied in healthcare contexts, questions remain about whether and how their use impacts patients’ perceptions of healthcare. Drawing on technology affordance and media synchronicity frameworks, we explore how the existence of multiple chronic conditions (MCC) and differences in usage patterns due to a patient’s generation impact these relationships. Utilizing HINTS data, this study provides empirical support for a positive relationship between the utilization of electronic personal health records (e-PHRs) and healthcare quality perceptions, albeit with a caveat that patients with greater healthcare needs as well as millennial and younger generations do not seem to enjoy the same benefits from increased use of e-PHRs. Furthermore, asynchronous patient-provider electronic communication is yet to achieve positive perceptions of better healthcare quality for most users. This research bears implications for the personalization and customization of OHMT to account for variations in patient’s healthcare needs and usage patterns.

Prevention of Skin Cancer: Healthy Sun Exposure and No sunscreen for Intense Intermittent Exposure; Photoaging Theories Questioned and New Strategies

Currently the FDA adopts a zero-tolerance policy toward sun exposure in order to prevent skin cancer and premature skin aging (photoaging). This is apparently based on classical concept that damage from sunlight, a carcinogen, is cumulative and un-reparable. Such concept is apparently flawed both theoretically and in reality. The nature’s design to achieve genomic stability of body health and appearance for smooth passage of generations in our normal daily lives would require virtually complete repair of damages of DNA and other tissue components from daily Exposure to Non-Burning Sunlight (ENS). In other words, ENS is generally not expected to cause skin cancer and photoaging. Such notion is evidenced by, for example, low worldwide skin-cancer incidences, severe sunburn as overwhelming skin-cancer etiology, and intrinsic aging as overwhelming skin aging. Since ENS can provide numerous health benefits, such exposure can be regarded as healthy sun exposure and used to help prevent skin cancer. Due to unintended sunburn effect, use of sunscreens for intense intermittent exposure is strongly discouraged. As photoaging and skin cancer may be closely related, some questions related to conventional theories and practices in photoaging are also raised. They include the following: Schuster’s pioneering study in 1975; invalidation of accelerated aging theory; questionable theory on etiology of wrinkles and age spots; Fisher’s studies on metalloproteinases; bolus doing vs constant-rate dosing in irradiation; moisturizers as anti-photoaging/anti-cancer agents; inclusion of blood and water in skin-aging exosome; wind effect; differences in usage pattern between countries in sunscreen evaluation; replacement of UVA in tanning beds.

Transforming Mathematics Instruction Via Primary Historical Sources: A Study of Influential Factors on Implementation of a Curricular Innovation at the Tertiary Level

Abstract The TRansforming Instruction in Undergraduate Mathematics via Primary Historical Sources (TRIUMPHS) project is producing primary source projects (PSPs) for use in teaching core topics from the tertiary mathematics curriculum and investigating the resulting teaching and learning experiences. This article examines factors related to attributes of PSPs, TRIUMPHS’ dissemination and implementation support strategies, and characteristics of individual instructors that have influenced the incorporation of PSPs into their ordinary practice via case studies representative of two types of end users: those who have thus far limited their PSP usage to a single course and those for whom PSP usage has permeated their instructional practice. Findings affirm that pedagogical orientations within individuals’ instructional practices were critical to both initial use and eventual adoption of PSPs, while the observed differences in usage patterns between the cases were influenced by the perceived relative advantages offered by the core features of PSPs and individuals’ intrinsic motivation. What Can L2ers Tell Us about Codeswitching? Mood Selection in Spanish

An increasing amount of research shows that bilinguals that engage in codeswitching (CS) may show different patterns of usage and sensitivity to particular linguistic structures depending on community norms. Additionally, proficiency may play a different role in sensitivity to code-switched utterances depending on speaker background, as well as the structure investigated. In this study, we aim to examine how bilinguals not exposed to CS in the community rate CS vs. unilingual sentences involving mood selection in Spanish. In an online acceptability judgment task (AJT), 20 Spanish L2ers rated sentences containing verbs in the indicative and subjunctive mood in restrictive relative clauses manipulated for the specificity of the antecedent in two separate sessions: a Spanish monolingual mode and a CS session. The L2ers did not show evidence of a CS effect and maintained a mood distinction according to the specificity of the antecedent both in unilingual and codeswitched sentences. These results are in contrast with the results previously reported for Spanish heritage speakers (HSs), where a CS effect is attested in the loss of preference for the subjunctive in nonspecific relative clauses in the CS vs. the monolingual Spanish condition. Additionally, this distinction is found at both lower and higher proficiency levels. The differences between these speakers and HSs are consistent with data from previous research on CS effects on phonology and Det–N switches. We argue that exposure to community norms is necessary for the acquisition of patterns not related exclusively to the grammaticality of switch junctures (I-language).

Open access to scholarly contents has grown substantially in recent years. This includes the number of books published open access online. However, there is limited study on how usage patterns (via downloads, citations and web visibility) of these books may differ from their closed counterparts. Such information is not only important for book publishers, but also for researchers in disciplines where books are the norm. This article reports on findings from comparing samples of books published by Springer Nature to shed light on differences in usage patterns across open access and closed books. The study includes a selection of 281 open access books and a sample of 3,653 closed books (drawn from 21,059 closed books using stratified random sampling). The books are stratified by combinations of book type, discipline and year of publication to enable likewise comparisons within each stratum and to maximize statistical power of the sample. The results show higher geographic diversity of usage, higher numbers of downloads and more citations for open access books across all strata. Importantly, open access books have increased access and usage for traditionally underserved populations.

Utilizing Instagram Data to Identify Usage Patterns Associated With Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders.

Background and Objectives: Prior research has successfully identified linguistic and behavioral patterns associated with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) from user generated social media activity. Few studies, however, have explored the potential for image analysis to inform psychiatric care for individuals with SSD. Given the popularity of image-based platforms, such as Instagram, investigating user generated image data could further strengthen associations between social media activity and behavioral health.Methods: We collected 11,947 Instagram posts across 68 participants (mean age = 23.6; 59% male) with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD; n = 34) and healthy volunteers (HV; n = 34). We extracted image features including color composition, aspect ratio, and number of faces depicted. Additionally, we considered social connections and behavioral features. We explored differences in usage patterns between SSD and HV participants.Results: Individuals with SSD posted images with lower saturation (p = 0.033) and lower colorfulness (p = 0.005) compared to HVs, as well as images showing fewer faces on average (SSD = 1.5, HV = 2.4, p < 0.001). Further, individuals with SSD demonstrated a lower ratio of followers to following compared to HV participants (p = 0.025).Conclusion: Differences in uploaded images and user activity on Instagram were identified in individuals with SSD. These differences highlight potential digital biomarkers of SSD from Instagram data.

Usage Patterns of CT and MRI in the Evaluation of Otologic Disease.

To evaluate the current trends and usage patterns of radiographic imaging for otologic disease by specialty, length of practice, practice setting, geographic region, and pediatric volume. Cross-sectional study. Survey of physicians. General Otolaryngologists and Otologists/Neurotologists (O/N) of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS). An electronic questionnaire was distributed to AAO-HNS members. Respondents were separated into groups by specialty, length of practice, practice setting, region, and pediatric exposure. Chi-square tests were performed for the determination of significance. The survey was sent to 5,168 members of AAO-HNS. The response rate was 10.6% (n = 546) and 18.1% for only O/N (n = 143). Most respondents were generalists (74%), in practice >20 years (51%), with a primarily adult practice (95%). O/N were more often academics (44 versus 17% combined, 40% private; p < 0.001) and saw fewer children (80 fewer than 25%; p < 0.001). Compared with generalists, O/N were more likely to respond with more frequent and earlier magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilization in the workup of the majority of otologic diseases. Significant differences in usage patterns for various conditions were demonstrated across all categories, but specialty training was the most common. Generalists (34 versus 12% of O/N; p < 0.001), physicians practicing >20 years (32 versus 18% of < 5 yrs; p = 0.006), and private practice physicians (34 versus 14-20% of others; p < 0.001) relied more heavily on the radiology report to interpret MRI scans. Subspecialty training seems to be the main variable correlating with significant differences in the use of MRI and computed tomography imaging in patients with otologic disease.

Student use of common online resources in a multi-campus medical school.

Background: Multi-campus medical schools can differ in medical curriculum delivery due to location specific factors, creating different learning contexts. Common online learning may reduce perceived inequities. Using a shared curriculum structure, we developed two learning resource components (topic-based learning objects and multiple-choice question banks) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for students in our 3-campus medical school. Objective: We evaluated common learning resource use across different learning contexts. We hypothesised that students with fewer structured learning hours would make greater use of topic-based learning resources due to their perceived utility value. We also explored an alternative hypothesis; that resources more closely linked to assessment (MCQ banks) would encourage a strategic approach to learning and would be used most highly at all campuses. Methods: We assessed student opinion of the value of the resources through a cross-campus online survey, and quantified usage of the resources by analysing learning management system logs. Comparisons of response and usage patterns for the two resource components were conducted to identify if context influenced usage. Results: Survey results (RR = 70%) showed that students across campuses rated the resources as valuable. Usage logs partially supported our hypothesis that learning object usage would be highest at the campus (Campus 3) with the lowest structured learning hours in both the proportion of users (p <0.006) and frequency of access for 16 of the 26 topics (p<0.05). However, the reverse was found to be true for the question bank, with lowest usage of question banks at Campus 3 (p< 0.001). Conclusions: We interpret the results as evidence of difference in the perceived utility value of the learning resources across campuses. Clear differences in usage patterns provide evidence that different learning contexts can influence online resource use, and these contexts should be considered when evaluating the effectiveness of online learning resources.

To Express or to End? Personality Traits Are Associated With the Reasons and Patterns for Using Emojis and Stickers.

Emojis and stickers are becoming increasingly popular in computer-mediated communications. The present study examined the associations between personality traits and people’s reasons and patterns for using both emojis and stickers. Participants (n = 312) completed three online questionnaires assessing shyness, the Big Five personality traits, and why and how they used emojis and stickers. Results revealed that shyness, neuroticism, extraversion, and agreeableness were correlated with different reasons of usage. Moreover, some participants exhibited a tendency to adjust frequency of usage depending on who the target person was and whether they were in a private or group chat. People who showed such tendencies were found to differ in personality with those who did not. Some differences in usage patterns were also observed between emojis and stickers. Together, the present study has produced more insight into how emojis and stickers can help people with different personality traits to achieve different purposes in their daily communication.

An empirical evaluation of different usage pattern between car-sharing battery electric vehicles and private ones

As a non-ownership business mode, a car-sharing service system has received an extensive popularization recently. Many related studies based on the theoretical and questionnaire analyses have confirmed the existence of differences in usage patterns between car-sharing users and private users. Nowadays, usage data provides a new way to analyze and understand the usage pattern of vehicles, which can improve user experience. To study the usage of car-sharing cars and private ones, namely, to study their usage patterns, this paper proposes an evaluation indicator system for usage pattern based on the battery electric vehicle (BEV) data. The evaluation indicator system is based on the state transition approach and describes the usage pattern of BEVs from three dimensions. The travel temporal and travel spatial dimensions describe the time and space characteristics of usage pattern. The decision-making dimension, as a cause of state transition at the micro level, describes the decision-making pattern according to a conceptual psychological model. Finally, an empirical study using the promotion is undertaken to explore differences in the performance of the two BEV types using the real-world usage data. Results show that the evaluation indicator system can identify the differences in usage pattern between car-sharing BEVs and private ones effectively and objectively from different perspectives.

Spatio-Temporal Usage Patterns of Dockless Bike-Sharing Service Linking to a Metro Station: A Case Study in Shanghai, China

The dockless bike-sharing (DLBS) system serves as a link between metro stations and travelers’ destinations (or originations). This paper aims to uncover spatio-temporal usage patterns of dockless bike-sharing service linking to metro stations for supporting scientific planning and management of the dockless bike-sharing system. A powerful visualization tool was used to analyze the differences in usage patterns in workdays and weekends. The travel distance distributions of using dockless bike-sharing near metro stations were investigated to shed light on the service area of the dockless bike-sharing system. Agglomerative hierarchical clustering was applied to analyze differences in usage patterns of metro stations located in different areas. The results show that the usage patterns of dockless bike-sharing on weekends are different from those on workdays. The average travel distance using the dockless bike-sharing system at weekends is significantly larger than that of workdays. The travel distance distribution could be nicely fitted by the Fréchet distribution of the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) distribution family. The usage characteristics of shared bikes are correlated with land use and population density around metro stations. No matter in urban or suburban areas, there is a great demand for bike-sharing in densely populated areas with intensive land development, such as university towns in suburban areas. This study improves the understandings regarding the usage patterns of the DLBS system serving as a link between the final destinations (or originations) and metro stations. The results can be helpful to the operation and demand management of DLBS.

The theoretical and empirical analysis of the concepts of coping strategy, locus of control (internality-externality) and achievement motivation is provided in the article. Various points of view on coping strategies, as well as on achievement motivation, social intelligence and internality as professionally important personality characteristics of leaders of the real sector of the economy are considered. The structure of the relationship of socio-psychological characteristics and coping strategies of leaders is revealed. The correlation of coping strategies and locus of control, achievement motivation is investigated. The results of the study of the relationship of coping strategies, locus of control, achievement motivation and socio-psychological characteristics among managers allowed us to draw the following conclusions. 1. Two types of leaders were obtained: “Internal” and “External”. 2. Each type of leader has his own combination of coping strategies. 3. Within each of the two types of leaders, subtypes are distinguished. As a result, we get a two-level typology, the second level of which includes five types of leaders, depending on their socio-psychological characteristics and preferred coping strategies. 4. All types are characterized only by their inherent features of coping behavior. The greatest differences in usage patterns were found in strategies such as Confrontational Coping, Positive Reappraisal, Self-Control, Distance, and Emotional Coping. All types of executives have the greatest preference for strategies such as Problem Coping and Problem Solving Planning. 5. The greatest contribution to the psychological characteristics of types was made by such qualities as aggressiveness, friendliness, dominance, altruism and authoritarianism. In addition, the level of internality (including general and relative to one’s own failures and achievements), personality traits (courage, suspicion, high normative behavior, dominance).

Patterns of PowerPoint Use in Higher Education: a Comparison between the Natural, Medical, and Social Sciences

PowerPoint is one of the most widely used technological tools in educational contexts, but little is known about the differences in usage patterns by faculty members from various disciplines. For the study we report in this article we used a survey specially designed to explore this question, and it was completed by 106 faculty members from different disciplines. The results suggest the existence of different patterns in the use of PowerPoint. In addition, the importance of habit in its use is highlighted. Those professors who reported greater dependence on PowerPoint tended to use PowerPoint primarily as study material for their students. We discuss the practical relevance of these results.

Urban mobility in the sharing economy: A spatiotemporal comparison of shared mobility services

The influx of micro-mobility services, such as dockless scooter-share and e-bikes, in many cities are contributing to a substantial change in urban transportation with adoption rates reminiscent of other shared-mobility services, such as ride-hailing, years prior. Touted as a solution to the last mile problem, a multitude of micro-mobility companies have situated themselves in urban centers promising low cost alternative transportation options for short, urban travel. The rapid arrival of these companies, however, has left little time for city officials, transportation planners, and citizens to assess the demand for these services and compare them to existing transportation options. In this work, we investigate two key aspects of these micro-mobility services. First, we identify the spatial and temporal differences between these mobility companies and highlight the nuanced differences in usage patterns. Second, we compare these new services to an existing mode of transportation, namely automobile-based ride-hailing, with regards to differences in travel time within a city. The results of these analyses indicate that while many micro-mobility companies are spatiotemporally similar, there are notable differences in where and when these services are used. Similarly, we find that automobile travel is not always the fastest means of transportation within an urban setting. During periods of heavy traffic congestion, e.g., rush hour, micro-mobility services offer a faster means of travel within the city. The findings presented in this work offer evidence on which to inform urban planning and transportation policy with respect to shared mobility services, free floating vehicles, and alternative urban transportation.
