The importance of sociological research conducted in Serbia for the development of systemic family theory and therapy

This paper aims to present the idea of using domestic sociological studies as educational material for future systemic family therapists and resources for systemic family theory and therapy development in Serbia. The paper presents domestic scientists studies dealing with different forms of families and family relatinons. The thesis we tried to defend in this paper is that in the emergence and development of systemic family theory and therapy, sociological insights have had a significant place and that in the further evolution of this psychotherapy modality, their findings cannot be shortened. In the field of developing systemic family therapy theory, the scientific evaluation of the impact of social factors on families and individuals through scientific production is of considerable benefit. We believe that an important step has been made in the foundation of the course Introduction to Systemic Family Theory and Therapy, at the Master?s in Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, the University of Belgrade, which is intended for sociologists and future systemic family therapists.

Innovative potential of environmentally motivated female entrepreneurship for sustainable development in the Republic of Serbia

The role of women is extremely important for the economic development of every country. The objective of this paper is to study and understand how important business women are for achieving sustainable economy in Serbia, and how their skills can be utilized in that respect. A descriptive research methodology was used, with the questionnaire as a survey instrument, to demonstrate the momentous role of women entrepreneurs in promoting sustainable practices in economy, social system and ecology. The research shows that women entrepreneurs in Serbia introduce ecology into their business intuitively, but it states that in addition to the ecological component, the economic and social components must be involved in the business operations, in order that the female entrepreneurs contribute to the growth of the national economy. The paper concludes that given the positive impact made by women on the economy and development in Serbia, women entrepreneurship is pivotal in promoting sustainable practices in business socially, economically and environmentally.

Razvojni potencijal visoko tehnološke industrije u Srbiji

The development and deployment of high technology is a key driver of economic growth, a source of competitiveness, high value-added creation and the creation of well-paying jobs, both in developed countries and in countries in different stages of development. With this in mind, the paper follows the implementation of the sectoral approach followed by the High-technology industry to measure economic performance and the current contribution of the High-technology industry to economic development in Serbia. First, the economic importance of the high-tech industry in the European Union is explored, and then the development of the high-tech industry in Serbia from a development perspective in the future. The concluding part of the paper outlines the measures of active economic policy that must be implemented in order to accelerate the development of the domestic High-technology industry and to make it really the basis for the economic and overall social development of Serbia in the coming decades.

Intraregional inequalities in Serbia - testing the club convergence

Not only are all the regions in Serbia underdeveloped in comparison to EU-28 average, but there are also relatively large regional disparities in our country. Nevertheless, the largest part of the uneven spatial development in Serbia lies in pronounced and growing inequalities within the regions ? intraregional disparities are greater than the interregional ones. This paper aims to investigate the existence of club convergence on NUTS 3 level in Serbia. While a common approach is based on a priori dividing units of observation into individual groups based on some of their particular characteristics, we use a method that allows identification of clusters of convergence by using an algorithm that is data-driven and thereby avoids a priori classification of the data into subgroups. We use data on GVA per capita for NUTS 3 level in Serbia, for the period 2001-2016. Our results show that there are three convergence clubs in Serbia, while two districts - Belgrade district and South Backa district show no signs of convergence with any of the other clubs or between themselves.

New Tendencies in Development of Kinetography in Serbia and the Region

Play and music are an inseparable phenomenon of human expression, encompassed by the single term – dance. Recording of dance performances, as well as transcription of dance music, are the primary tasks of ethnomusicological analysis in Serbia, and in Europe as well. This enables the understanding of the process of inner constitution of dance and dance music, and the path is opened for their observation in the sphere of the contextual. To this aim, the main tool of analythical observation of dances is kinetography, and the basic object of ethnomusicological analythical thinking are the kinetographs.
 The system has been developed and perfected over time, mainly in ballet and modern dance. Ethnochoreologists and recorders of traditional dances also use kinetography, but a problem is encountered in the process, since the traditional dances include the movements not existing in ballet and modern dance. Therefore in the recording of traditional dances the creation of new signs is needed. The paper focuses on the renewed interest in kinetography, since on the grounds of the analysis of the responses of the informants on the subject it has been established that the recording of dances, and even of the stage movement, has its potentials. The author raises the issue of the redefinition of the term kinetography and its affirmation, pointing to the necessity of its further development in Serbia and the region as well.

Regional Retail Sector Development in Serbia – Key Performance and Development Indicators’ Gap

Abstract Are there significant regional differences in regional retail development in Serbia? This was the main research question at the beginning of writing this paper. The main goal of this paper was to analyse regional differences in retail development based on existing statistical data. The idea was to point out regions with underdeveloped retailing and the one with endangered retail competition. Thorough desk research has been performed. It included both literature review and data collection from available official sources. Existing retail data have been analysed. However, the lack of data at lower levels of aggregation (regional and local) prevents the authors from getting strong conclusions. In addition, the lack of data also altered the main research question, which has now become adequacy of data in the retail sector and potential solutions for that problem. The noted lack of crucial data and solutions for solving this problem were the main purpose of this paper. The main finding is that decision makers in Serbia do not have adequate information about retail network. This is a problem because it is very hard to prove anticompetitive actions or to plan (stimulate) retail development without relevant data from both government and business point of view. Retail census would help getting key indicators about development of retailing in certain regions and municipalities. However, the solution needs to be sustainable. Therefore, some legislative requirements should provide information for census update.

New Market Segmentation Knowledge in the Function of Bioeconomy Development in Serbia

Sustainability of companies in modern market conditions greately depends on the knowledge. In order to improve their business processes and satisfy the needs of their customers, managers have to rely on new marketing knowledge, especially in new sectors such as bioeconomy. The aim of this paper is to investigate potential added value to Serbian organic food market segmentation researches (belonging to preconditions of further bioeconomy development) when implementing new marketing knowledge – food-related lifestyle market segmentation and scales’ testings. The results point out to adventurous consumers as the most important current and future market for organic food. Besides being the most educated (what was already established for consumers accepting organic food well in previous domestic researches), it is the first time that consumers accepting organic food in larger extent are brought in connection to their inclusion of the whole family in the preparation of meals and acceptance of novelties in cooking. It is also the first time to identify that there is a segment in domestic conditions for which price is not the greatest obstacle for increasing organic food consumption. That can be of the great importance for all actors (both national and foreign) operating at domestic food market.

Role and Significance of Agriculture and Food Industry Exporting in the Development of Serbia

This paper analyzes agriculture and food industry as key sectors of export in Serbia. The goal of the research is to point to the role and the significance of export of agriculture and food industry in the development of Serbia. The results show that the development strategy of Serbia must be based on the increase of export of agricultural and food products (more intense production) and the change of production structure in accordance with demand (especially with the demand for environmentally safe foods), with a higher level of finalization, in order to increase competitiveness and add value. Published data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia was used in the paper, and the charts represent the derivatives the authors prepared based on these original data. Research period included 2000 to 2015. The goal of the research of role and significance of export of agriculture and food industry in the development of Serbia was achieved by application of descriptive and comparative analysis, using statistical and mathematical method – linear trend of export and import of economy and agricultural and food products.

Coal mining and preparation in Serbia

Coal reserves in Serbia represent an important strategic energy raw materials on which in the coming decades will be based energy development in Serbia. Coal mining in Serbia is performed by surface, underground and underwater mining, and within each of them there are also the coal preparation facilities. Underground mining is done in the scope of the JP PEU Resavica, which includes eight active mines: Bogovina, Rembas, Vrska cuka, Stavalj, Ibar, Soko, Jasenovac and Lubnica. Surface mining is carried out as part of a JP EPS. Mining operation is done in mining basin Kolubara and Kostalac which are supplier of three thermal power plants: Kolubara, Nikola Tesla and Morava. Underwater mining and preparation of coals in Serbia has been done in Kovin coal mine. Coal production, processes of preparation and quality for all active mines in Serbia are presented in this review paper.

Menadžment zdravstvenog i medicinskog turizma - mogući pravci razvoja u Republici Srbiji

In this paper, we define the importance of management for the development of medical and health tourism, with a focus on the possible directions of development in Serbia in the function of faster economic development of the country. Medical or health tourism is not a new concept, although there is still no international consensus on a phenomenon that has been manifested for thousands of years. An even smaller difference is between medical and health tourism, with the tendency that it will not be in the future, that is, it is to be expected that these two areas of tourism will integrate into one. The paper focuses on the possibility of developing spa tourism in Serbia, because only a quarter of this natural wealth is used.

Stručno usavršavanje profesora poslovnog engleskog jezika - perspektiva profesora

This paper looks at the professional development of Business English teachers at institutions of higher education in Serbia. The current situation regarding the possibilities for improving these teachers' competencies is unsatisfactory, and in view of this, the study sought to analyze their attitudes and needs in order to suggest guidelines for creating an adequate model of professional development. The sample comprised 30 teachers, and a questionnaire was used as a research instrument. The results indicate that teachers' attitudes coincide with contemporary trends in the area of professional development, at the same time highlighting deficiencies in the current system of professional development in Serbia. A new model of professional development should make it possible for teachers to improve their general and professional competencies as identified through needs analysis; it should be based on collaboration not only between teachers but between all actors in education, should include mechanisms of monitoring the application of new knowledge, and make more extensive use of virtual forms of development. The value of the paper is in its potential for practical application, since it provides crucial information for creating a relevant and effective model of professional development for Business English teachers. The paper can also be used as a starting point for further research in the area of professional development of teachers of foreign languages for specific purposes more generally.

Development of derivative trading on financial market and agribusiness sector in Serbia

Transactions with futures and other derivatives began their development in the XIX century on the exchanges in USA and other developed countries, but fnancial market in Serbia is still underdeveloped with exchange materials, volumes and number of participants. Investors on the Belgrade Stock Exchange mostly trade with stocks and government bonds. Also, Agrar Product Novi Sad has organized only spot trading of agricultural products. The paper goal is to present all relevant assumptions and signifcance of derivative trading development in Serbia with discussion about choice to start derivative trading on the already existing exchanges or to establish a new futures exchange that is going to be specialized for derivative trading. As the research method authors use content analysis and comparison of signifcant national and foreign literature with analyses of trading volumes on international and domestic exchanges. Authors recommend that Agrar Product Novi Sad be the frst in expansion of market listing with commodity futures and options. On this way market is going to be deeper, creating effcient mechanisms for investor’s protection from price risks, creating conditions for safer and long term production planning, with increase in market attractivity that could set the Agrar Product Novi Sad as a leader in commodity derivative trading in the South-East Europe.

Regionalne strukturne neravnoteže Srbije kao posledica primenjenih tranzicionih modela privrednog rasta

One whole cannot develop unless all its parts develop. Regional development has direct implications for overall economic and social development! Regional transition in Serbia takes its toll on key development dimensions - demographic, spatial, economic, social, security and political. The state was not aware of the regional consequences of the transition. Regional policy was in the second plan, the focus of state instruments was dominantly placed on the process of transferring the planned economy into a market-oriented economy, regional imbalances were developed and intensified spontaneously and uncontrollably, the individual actions of the state were uncoordinated and selective, mainly initiated from particular political interests. State instruments were not in the function of depreciation of transitional consequences. The key message of the paper is that a more balanced regional development in Serbia cannot be implemented without building an efficient institutional framework, consisting of institutions and instruments, various policies that ensure stability, continuity and harmonization in the development process. In addition, the author points out the importance of affirming the integrative function of strategic regional development planning, the decentralization process and polycentric regional development. In regional theory and practice, it is generally accepted that a higher efficiency of implementation of regional development policy and planning is ensured through hierarchically differentiated decision-making systems.

Spatial demographic inequalities and regional development in Serbia

The study provides a comprehensive data analysis of demographic and socio-economic characteristics in Serbian regions as factors of uneven regional development. The data were provided by the official population censuses from 1953 to 2011. The study uses the following demographic indicators: population; the index of population change; population density; the share of migrants in the total population; the share of 65+ population; and the average age of the population. The indicators of the regions’ socio-economic development were as follows: the level of development of cities and municipalities; the share of uneducated population; the share of the population with secondary and higher education; the share of welfare recipients; the share of employed population; the share of computer illiterate persons; and the share of the unemployed. The research results have shown significant regional discrepancies: Belgrade, Kosovo and Metohija regions are economically prosperous regions, attractive for migrants from other parts of Serbia, the situation is quite the opposite in Southern and Eastern Serbia, characterized by the outflow of the population and economic underdevelopment, especially in the border areas. The other two regions are within the two extremes, Vojvodina being closer to Belgrade and Sumadija and Western Serbia, to Southern and Eastern Serbia.

Strane direktne investicije, izvoz i ekonomski rast u Srbiji

In the last decades, foreign direct investments and export have generally been considered key drivers of global economic integration. This paper pays special attention to analysis of possible impact and relationship between foreign direct investment, exports and economic growth of countries. When looking at Serbia as a country that is still in the process of transition, due to its characteristics in terms of impact on long-term economic development, the main purpose of this paper is the research and analysis of connectivity between foreign direct investments, export and economic growth measured by gross domestic product of Serbia in the period from 1998 to 2016. With the use of statistical-quantitative analysis, the paper has produced the results that indicate that foreign direct investments and export positively influence the economic growth of Serbia. Having in mind that the impact of foreign direct investments and export is positive, the conclusions of the research can be useful in creating appropriate policies and strategies for further economic growth and development of Serbia.

Poslovni inkubator u funkciji razvoja preduzetništva mladih

The redevelopment of entrepreneurship has become a core issue for strengthening the economic development of Serbia. It is particularly important to develop a generation of young entrepreneurs as soon as possible in order to reduce the high rate of youth unemployment. Presented case study of a competition of young people with entrepreneurial ideas under the organization and support of Business Incubator Subotica (BIS) offers an example of successful initiatives in the development of cooperation of interested young people and their involvement in the economy. With the applied method of stakeholder analysis and social networking considering the functions and roles of participants in competition, the essential communication channels are detected providing recommendations for the expansion of cooperation within the circle of interested parties. Results prove the assumption that business incubators with their established business communication lines and built-in position are suitable for launching such initiatives and to motivate future young entrepreneurs. Based on the results, as a social implication, the broader social interests are clearly visible. The experience is worth for attention of every potentially involved actor in forming the future of the youth.

Going global - acting local: Marketing strategy of Siemens in Serbia

When a company has been operating in the world for 170 years, and for 125 years in one specific country, it more than surely deserves to have its business and marketing strategy considered. There are not so many companies that have achieved this and not so many companies can serve as an example of how a global company can be domestic. This is the case with Siemens in the world and Siemens in Serbia, and there is probably no company which has influenced the industrial and economic development of Serbia in such a powerful way as Siemens. This is a sufficient reason for studying the marketing strategy of Siemens, with the focus of this paper on studying the business and marketing strategy of Siemens in Serbia, in order to identify the marketing strategy that has brought this company to global success and which can be used by other companies in their presentation in the global market.

The challenges of planning in the field of cultural heritage in Serbia

Serbia is characterized by a rich cultural heritage and cultural diversity, as well as by a developed system of protecting cultural property. The current trend is that of a constant increase of the number of registered cultural properties under protection. Urban settlements in Serbia are characterized by specific typological characteristics and recognizable architectural typologies that are valuable architectural heritage as well as an urban identity factor. Together, protected cultural property and architectural heritage belong to a wider concept of urban heritage in the sense comprised in the modern charters on the protection of cultural heritage (HUL). The primary starting point of the paper is that the law and plans in Serbia must become more sensitive to the context. In addition to protecting registered property, the protection of buildings and other structures that are not cultural heritage should also be introduced. However, current planning practice in Serbia does not sufficiently recognize cultural heritage in the wider sense of urban heritage, nor does it affirm it as an important resource for sustainable development. By analyzing the planning context, the problems and challenges in terms of institutional, legal and governance frameworks, as well as planning methodologies, can be identified. The paper is a contribution to the contextual analysis within the National Strategy for the Sustainable and Integral Urban Development of Serbia (currently developing within a wider team of experts), with the aim of affirming the cultural potential of Serbia and incorporating the topic of cultural heritage as a resource for sustainable development into Serbia?s development programs and projects.

Key Aspects of a Balanced Regional Development of the Republic of Serbia

Abstract The main goal of the research presented in this paper is to point to the benefits of a balanced regional development, as well as the mechanism of its implementation, based on the analysis of the current situation relating to the regional development of the Republic of Serbia, which is characterised by the greatest regional disparities in Europe, that even show the tendency of further deepening. The importance of a consistent and comprehensive development strategy of the country that would include reindustrialisation and full employment policy as a means of initiating dynamic economic growth and achieving sustainable development of the national economy and its regions is emphasised. This position is justified, primarily, due to the fact that, despite its crucial importance, regional development has never been understood as an integral part of the overall socio-economic development, therefore, this issue, owning to a lack of institutional and systemic approach is constantly being marginalised. In the analysis of the key aspects of a balanced regional development in Serbia, based on the study of different theoretical views and practical experiences regarding this important social and economic development issue, the method of the analytical description was primarily used.

УЛОГА И ДОМЕТИ ИНФОРМАЦИОНО-КОМУНИКАЦИОНИХ ТЕХНОЛОГИЈА У ИСТРАЖИВАЊИМА УНИВЕРЗИТЕТСКИХ НАСТАВНИКА У СРБИЈИ

The Strategy for Higher Education System Development in Serbia up to 2020 presupposes a certain level of digital literacy of all participants in education. Knowledge and skills in the area of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) are basic requirements. University teachers (UT) are also expected to develop skills to use ICT for both teaching and scientific research because they are both lecturers and researchers. This research is based on the primary assumption that UT would apply ICT to a greater extent if they were provided with actual possibilities to do so. The aims of this paper are to enable preliminary insight into (1) how UT understand the role of ICT in their research and which aspects of the scope of ICT they are familiar with; and (2) what UT believe could facilitate their scientific research. A survey was conducted with 166 UT in Serbia based on a mixed questionnaire. The data analysis confirmed that UT are familiar with both the role and scope of ICT but they lack the objective possibilities for a broader application of ICT. The respondents clearly stated that access to data bases, referenced journals and other sources, and the application of available programs and solutions, as well as training to use them in a proper way, should be enabled. The general conclusion is that solutions are needed at all levels of the entire education system to provide UT in Serbia with a better environment for both teaching and research based on ICT.
