Applications of Photovoice-Based Entrepreneurial-Minded Pedagogical Interventions in the Engineering Classroom

The recent emergence of generative AI technologies is beginning to shape workforce hiring practices. The shift towards skills-based hiring over degree-based hiring has sparked concerns over the ability of college graduates to be prepared for their career roles. One approach to equip students to work with technology and adapt to rapidly changing environments is the development of an entrepreneurial mindset. One way to cultivate entrepreneurial thinking is through the participatory action research methodology, photovoice. This study explores how photovoice promotes discovery, evaluation, and exploitation of opportunities in university engineering classrooms. For this study, a literature review was conducted to identify, evaluate, and interpret available research. For the review, a five-step process was used. This process included defining a search criterion, constructing a Boolean logic search query, inserting the query into multiple academic search engines/databases, screening and selecting articles, and categorizing and mapping the literature. The review’s findings were organized based on the type of study, participants, duration of study and photovoice interventions used, study outcomes, and entrepreneurial mindset development. The results discussed in this paper offer insights, guidance, recommendations, and future directions for engineering education research.

The stimulation of the BTS Students Entrepreneurial Mindset through Entrepreneurial Education — Case of BTS students at the Lycée El Kindy in Casablanca, Morocco

Our study focuses on the effect of entrepreneurship education on the development of entrepreneurial Mindset among students in the Brevet Technician Specialize (BTS) at the Lycée El Kindy in the provincial directorate of Hay Hassani, Regional Academy of Education and Training of Casablanca -Settat (AREFC-S). Our choice of BTS students comes from the fact that they are high school graduates who opt for a specialised higher education in fields related to business management, outside of academic institutions. Our aim is to study the development of the entrepreneurial mindset through entrepreneurship education among these students. In order to do so, and after a diversified bibliographical study in relation to our subject, we opted for a field study by carrying out two surveys, spaced out by one year, on the same students. - Our first survey is conducted in February 2022 on a sample of 50% of the total number of students in the first year of study at the BTS; - Our second survey is carried out in February 2023 on the total number of these same students who are in their second year of study at the BTS. The results of our surveys showed that the more students receive entrepreneurial training and participate in business-related seminars, the more entrepreneurial spirit among BTS students increases. This explains why students in the second year of study at the BTS have a higher intention to become entrepreneurs or business managers.

Business and professional communication courses hold special opportunities to contribute to students’ development of entrepreneurial mindsets through the use and extension of classical rhetorical theory and praxis. We situate pedagogical activities within the context of the entrepreneurial venture pitch by using Rhetorical Canons of invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery to develop oral discourse while recognizing and developing entrepreneurial mindsets. We utilize elements of entrepreneurial mindset development presented by Kuratko et al. and Daspit et al. to introduce business and professional communication instructors to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional aspects contributing to the establishment of entrepreneurial mindsets.

An analysis of strategies to improve financial sustainability of revolving loan fund programs: a case of world vision Burundi hiv/aids project in gashoho adp

Financial sustainability for revolving loan fund programs has been a topic of utmost interest especially to most non-profit organization (NGO) leaders, potential funders, including those communities that these programs function for. Financial sustainability makes the basis for community development which combines interventions by development-workers both from governmental and non-governmental agencies. This study sought to investigate the strategies adopted to improve financial sustainability of funding programs that related to revolving loans with one singular case study of a World Vision Burundi HIV/AIDS project in Gashoho ADP. The study is used descriptive research design to seek opinion of respondents. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to evaluate and assess quantitative information whereas the thematic analysis was utilised to evaluate qualitative information. The study found that training on fund use, reduction of corruption, increasing awareness on vision of revolving loan funds, development of entrepreneurial mindset among beneficiaries, implementation of good financial management system, proper monitoring & evaluation of the performance of revolving loan fund programs as effective strategies for enhancing financial sustainability of revolving loan fund programs in Gashoho for enhancing financial sustainability of revolving loan funds in Burundi, Gashoho ADP. The study concluded that fund- use training was related to financial sustainability of revolving loan fund programs (r=.2017; R- square = 0.0408). The study showed that financial management is effective in ensuring the financial sustainability of revolving funds programs by increasing knowledge on the utilization of financial resources (r=0.08). Similarly, the study concluded that monitoring and evaluation is a key to achieving the financial sustainability of revolving loan funds programs(r=0.116; Chi- Square=0.008; and F-Statistic = 2.72 at significance level =.100). The study concluded that training on fund use, financial management practices and Monitoring and evaluation of projects as the key strategies for the financial sustainability of revolving funds. The study recommended that revolving funds adopts these tripartite strategies to ensure the revolving remain sustainable after the donor leaves the project.

This study examines the specifics of a startup application as an innovative interactive analytical method of pro-ject-based research and simulation activities aimed at the development of entrepreneurial mindset in the pro-cess of advanced vocational training and early immersion in authentic foreign language communication in a business setting. In general, a startup is commonly understood as a new business offering a profitable innova-tive idea with the potential for rapid development. The paper considers the features of entrepreneurship educa-tion on the example of the Business English for Startup discipline proposed by the authors, relying on the prin-ciples of interdisciplinarity, modularity, interactivity, internationalization and practical-orientation. Important con-clusion dwells upon the fact that it is possible to immerse in real business foreign-language communicative activities through adaptation to the role of an entrepreneur in general and in the process of early professional self-actualization during team building and performance of key operational-functional and managerial tasks in particular. The interdisciplinary nature of a startup contributes to mastering the basic knowledge of marketing, economics, strategic, risk management, human resource management, developing a successful business plan along with an effective pitch in a foreign language.

Self-Efficacy, Resilience and Distress: Challenges in Education for Sustainable Entrepreneurship in a Health Context

The European Commission has highlighted the development of entrepreneurship competence in lifelong learning skills. In this way, the present study aims to contribute towards fostering the intrapreneurial mindset in healthcare settings. The focus of attention is on the relationship between organizational structures and processes (work-related content and content, specifically psychosocial risk factors), as well as individual wellbeing factors (distress and resilient coping) that could be relevant not only for the promotion of organizational wellbeing, but also to ensure an intrapreneurship-friendly environment (through the promotion of self-efficacy). An empirical study was conducted involving 333 formal caregivers of healthcare services. Portuguese versions of the instruments Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS), and Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III, medium version) were employed. Results show that resilience and distress (at the individual level), as well as role clarity, control over working time, and job insecurity (at the organizational level) are predisposing factors for self-efficacy, which are highlighted as essential to ensure an enabling environment for intrapreneurship and wellbeing. For practical consideration, we present an entrepreneurial mindset development strategy through the implementation of cause-related marketing as a pedagogical tool for entrepreneurship within the organization, which allows for experimentation and the necessary creative flexibility.

Factors of Student’s Entrepreneurial Intentions Implementation. Scientific Research of Faculty of Economics

In a fast-changing external environment the necessity of the development of entrepreneurial mindset among the young population is becoming increasingly relevant. The aim of the study is to identify the factors of students’ entrepreneurial intentions implementation. When deciding on the choice of an entrepreneurial career, a student evaluates the presence of three types of entrepreneurial capital, which include the competencies necessary for successful business creation. As a result of the study, a three-cluster model of entrepreneurial competencies was developed based on the critical analysis of the scientific literature. It can be used as a tool to assess the willingness of the younger generation to entrepreneurial activity. As part of an empirical study, a number of qualitative research were conducted by the method of interview. The instruments of developing entrepreneurial competencies and intentions were identified and the factors of students’ intentions to set up their own business implementation were revealed.

Impact of Risk-Taking attitude and Leadership Skills on Entrepreneurial Intentions of the Students of Business Administration in Punjab, Pakistan

Entrepreneurship education has gained global attention due to its significance regarding promotion of entrepreneurial culture among the communities. Boosting entrepreneurial intension has been prioritized around the world and entrepreneurship education plays key role in development of entrepreneurial mindset of the students through inculcating necessary skills. This quantitative research was designed to study the impact of risk-taking attitude and leadership skills on entrepreneurial intentions of the target population. Final semester students of sixteen years of education programs of business administration in public sector universities in Punjab, Pakistan, 2022 were the target population. Data collection was done through survey method. A self-designed questionnaire was distributed among 755 respondents. The sample size in this study was achieved through sampling formula presented by Yamane (1967). The respondents were recruited from five public sector universities of Punjab through multistage sampling. The entrepreneurial intension was measured through Entrepreneurial Intension Questionnaire developed by Linan and Chen (2009). It was concluded that risk-taking attitude, and leadership skills were positively associated with the entrepreneurial mindset.

The Impact of Entrepreneurship Curriculum with Teaching Models on Sustainable Development of Entrepreneurial Mindset among Higher Education Students in China: The Moderating Role of the Entrepreneurial Climate at the Institution

There has been considerable attention on the role of entrepreneurship education and outcomes from students’ sustainable development, predominantly entrepreneurial intentions. However, research has tended to overlook novel and promising, yet under-examined areas, such as the entrepreneurial mindset (EM), its link with entrepreneurship education, and the contextual factor. Drawing on social cognitive and teaching model theory, we aimed at addressing these gaps by examining the impact of entrepreneurship curriculum (EC) with different teaching models (supply, demand, competence) on EM, as well as the moderating role of the entrepreneurial climate of the higher education institution. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected in 15 higher education institutions in China. A sample of 739 students were used to test our hypotheses. The results suggest that all the entrepreneurial teaching models and mindset are positively related (though the demand model is the strongest predictor). Furthermore, the results establish that the entrepreneurial climate at the institution plays a moderating role between EC and EM, though it is the strongest for the competence teaching model. This paper contributes to the theoretical conceptualization of the EC–EM relationship and the deep understanding on “how” and “when” the teaching models in EC influence EM. Our study also expanded social cognitive theory (SCT) application in the context of higher entrepreneurship education by combining and confirming educational (specific teaching models), cognitive (EM), and institutional factors (entrepreneurial climate). Our research implies that universities and entrepreneurial program developers should pay attention to the selection of the right teaching models and provide a supportive entrepreneurial climate to optimize students’ EM, thus promoting their sustainable development.

Exploration of the Experiences That Shape Engineering Students’ Entrepreneurial Mindset Development

The overall purpose of this research is to be able to understand how engineering students believe they are developing EM throughout their higher education experiences. Is EM development attributed to the inclusion of EM based projects and activities within their engineering course work? Perhaps, EM development occurs more readily through engineering students’ participation in extracurricular or co-curricular activities? Alternatively, maybe EM development is not tied to the higher education ecosystem at all, and engineering students develop EM as a result of job or volunteer experiences. As such, this research study seeks to answer the following research questions: (1) Which types of experiences contribute to engineering students' EM development? And (2) What types of attributes of EM do engineering students perceive are developed through these experiences? The study involves a qualitative analysis of engineering student interviews to determine the experiences that have contributed to student EM development as well as EM traits that were specifically focused upon within these experiences. Through understanding engineering students’ perceptions of how they developed an EM, it will provide the necessary information to determine best practices for EM student development in the future.

Relationship Between Entrepreneurship Education, Entrepreneurial Mindset, and Career Readiness in Secondary Students

Background: Career-focused education programs in the United States increasingly emphasize 21st century workplace readiness. These programs use project-based learning to develop a holistic, noncognitive skillset linked to an entrepreneurial mindset. Purpose: This study assesses the relationship between entrepreneurial mindset development and students in entrepreneurship education programs compared with other career-focused academies. Methodology/Approach: Using a quasi-experimental design, entrepreneurial mindset was measured in two matched groups of students from underserved communities at the beginning and end of the school year. Additional analyses were conducted to assess the impact of career-focused education on student outlook of career readiness. Findings/Conclusions: Students in entrepreneurship education showed an overall statistically significant increase in entrepreneurial mindset, specifically in communication and collaboration, opportunity recognition, and critical thinking and problem-solving. Moreover, there was a positive association between entrepreneurial mindset gains and perceptions of future career success. Implications: This study paves the way for more rigorous research on linkages between career-focused education and noncognitive skills and suggests that entrepreneurship education may be effective in developing noncognitive skills linked to career success.

A Critical Analysis of Entrepreneurial Career Choice of the Youths in Mumbai City

The economic development of any country depends on the quality and quantity of entrepreneurial talent available in that country. The entrepreneur triggers the spark to economic activities by virtue of his entrepreneurial activities. To achieve this, development of entrepreneurial mindsets among the youths of the country in general and students (above 18 years of age) in particular represents an emerging priority for the higher education systems. However, this dimension is still in infancy, especially in India. This research paper aims at exploring the mindset of the students of business management discipline for ascertaining their inclination towards entrepreneurial career. Based on a cross-case analysis of 5 post graduate programs, the study explores the reasons for development of entrepreneurial mindset of the students. Implications for theory and practice include the most pressing challenges for universities and institutions involved in the transitions of students towards an entrepreneurial configuration.

Lessons Learned through Sequential Offerings of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for Sophomore Engineering Students

We provide an overview of the development and assessment of two subsequent offerings of a sophomore-level engineering innovation and entrepreneurship boot camp. The boot camp focused on the development of entrepreneurial mindset skills through the provision of curricular content on idea generation and the customer’s role in the design and technology transfer process. Students also participated in an experiential component which involved an iterative design process culminating in a business pitch made to a panel of faculty and entrepreneurship community members. Entrepreneurial mindset is a term that has varied definitions based on the reference source. This paper provides an overview of these definitions and a basis for the entrepreneurial mindset development that was sought as part of this boot-camp experience. Results demonstrated that the bootcamp environment can successfully provide an environment for the learning of innovation and entrepreneurship concepts and lay the foundation for skill sets that can be further developed within students’ academic careers. 75% of student respondents thought the skills they initially identified as being important to innovation and entrepreneurship had changed as a result of the boot camp. Student perceptions of important innovation and entrepreneurship skills that had changed can be related back to the engineering viewpoint of the entrepreneurial mindset. Specifically, creativity and customer focus were stated most frequently as skills that had changed. In addition, the “muddiest points” related to innovation and entrepreneurship were reported by 97% of participants to have been made “clearer” as a result of the boot camp.
