Assessment of Caregivers and Their Children With Cancer Regarding Information Provided by Healthcare Teams: Advancing Stages Toward the Creation of a Structured Education Program at the National Level.

The dissemination of information to caregivers of pediatric cancer patients in Chilean hospitals is now sporadic and contingent upon available time, underscoring the need for a systematic education program. This study assesses caregivers' perceptions of the information provided by healthcare teams to support the development of a national education program tailored to their needs. A descriptive, prospective, multicenter study was conducted from June 2021 to March 2022 across six public hospitals in Chile. The study included caregivers of children undergoing cancer treatment. Caregivers completed a survey assessing the education received and their preferred educational methods. Data were analyzed using STATA 18 and Graph Pad 6.0, with qualitative responses analyzed through an iterative coding process. Of 173 respondents, 94% rated the education received as very good or good. While 51% felt well-informed at hospital discharge, 28% desired more information. Caregivers preferred information from healthcare teams (88%), websites (55%), and written materials (51%). Significant differences were found in preferred educational content based on cancer type and the time elapses since diagnosis. Caregivers generally rated the education provided positively but expressed a need for more structured and targeted information. The findings inform the design of a national education program, emphasizing the need for tailored content and improved communication strategies to enhance caregiver support.

Interventions to improve patient health education competence among nursing personnel: A scoping review.

To determine what intervention strategies have been used in interventions aimed at improving the patient health education competence of nursing personnel. There is a growing body of research on educational interventions for improving nursing personnel's patient health education competence, but there are significant differences in the teaching objectives, content and methods of these studies, as well as a lack of standardized educational strategies. The scoping review was based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. In this study, six databases and the gray literature source, the Google search engine, were searched. A search strategy was developed based on the three-step search method recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Two researchers independently performed study selection and data extraction. 22 articles reported on the specifics of educational interventions. The duration of these interventions ranged from a minimum of 1.5 hours to a maximum of 3 months. Most interventions employed face-to-face courses as the teaching model. The studies included a variety of teaching methods, with the most frequently mentioned being lectures, discussions, demonstrations, simulations and role-playing. However, most studies lacked specific teaching objectives and none described the educational content of the implementation process. Additionally, none of the studies developed educational content based on a competence framework for patient health education. Few studies reported on long-term effects. The diverse intervention strategies demonstrated in these studies could serve as valuable evidence to guide the development of relevant educational programs and facilitate the design of future high-quality educational interventions.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence for Non-Psychomotor Skills Training in Health Professions Education: A Scoping Review.

This study explores uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in health professions education for non-psychomotor skills training at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing health professions education levels for education program development, delivery, and evaluation. This scoping review was conducted in 5 stages: (1) planning and research, (2) search strategy, (3) screening and selection, (4) review and recording data, and (5) synthesis. Seven bibliographic databases were searched using the main search terms artificial intelligence and continuing health professional education for articles that used AI for the purposes of non-psychomotor skills training for health professions education and involved health care professionals and/or trainees. Databases were searched for articles published from January 1, 2001, to March 26, 2024. The original searches were performed on July 26, 2021, and again on March 26, 2024. Two reviewers independently screened, reviewed, and extracted data. Data extraction was performed using Kern's 6-step curriculum development framework to guide analysis. In total, 9,914 studies related to AI in health professions education for non-psychomotor skills training were screened. Of these, 103 studies were identified that met inclusion criteria. Of these 103 studies, 52 (50%) were cohort studies. The most common learner population was health care professional students (67 studies [65%]). Most studies (76 [74%]) were set in nonclinical settings. Sixty-eight studies (66%) fit under step 6 of Kern's criteria (evaluation and assessment), illustrating that AI is predominantly being used for the purposes of evaluation and assessment of learners and programs. Most studies in the literature illustrate that AI is being applied in a non-psychomotor context to evaluate health professional education programs and assess learners. Additional opportunities to use AI in curriculum design and implementation could include identification of learning needs for training, personalizing learning with AI principles, and evaluating health care professional education programs.

Effects of Neuromuscular Training on Performance and Injury Prevention in Youth Team Sports: Development of an Evidence-Based Educational Program

Introduction Team sports have become increasingly fast-paced and athletic, particularly at the elite international level. Over the past 15 years, a widening performance gap in explosiveness and speed has been observed between Swiss youth and elite athletes in team sports. Promising talents with deficits in these areas face growing difficulties in establishing themselves at the elite level. Concurrently, there has been a rapid increase in scientific publications demonstrating the positive effects of neuromuscular training on explosiveness, speed, and in addition on injury prevention. Objective: To develop an evidence-based educational program for coaches to optimize neuromuscular training in youth team sports, addressing the challenges of complex knowledge transfer, diverse stakeholders, and heterogeneous training approaches. Methods The "Power to Win" project was initiated by the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen in collaboration with Swiss national sports federations and Swiss Olympic. A multi-step approach was employed: Formation of a project group comprising scientists, practitioners, and stakeholders Development of an impact model focusing on optimizing athlete training through improved coach knowledge, awareness, and motivation. Analysis of training content, coach knowledge, and educational courses. Creation of a roadmap based on scientific evidence and expert knowledge. Definition of key concepts and models (e.g., performance model, long-term athlete development model). Structuring of knowledge according to educational levels (Jugend+Sport, national federations, coach education) and along the talent pathway (FTEM model, F1 to T4). Stage-specific adaptation of knowledge transfer considering available time for education and existing knowledge. Results The project resulted in the development of five digital learning courses for self-study and for integration into existing training programs. These courses are freely accessible online and designed to facilitate blended learning approaches, allowing for increased practical training time during in-person courses. The online content covers Bloom's taxonomy levels 1-3, while levels 4-6 are addressed in face-to-face training sessions. Discussion/Conclusion Translating scientific evidence into practical applications presents significant challenges due to various external influences. This project demonstrates a systematic approach to developing an evidence-based educational program for neuromuscular training in youth team sports. By addressing the complexities of knowledge transfer and considering the needs of diverse stakeholders, this program aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in enhancing performance and preventing injuries among young athletes in team sports. Future research should evaluate the effectiveness of this educational program in improving coach knowledge and behavior, as well as its impact on athlete performance and injury rates in youth team sports.

Adoption of financial literacy: Systematic literature review and proposal of a theoretical model

The term “financial literacy” is used to describe an individual’s capacity to comprehend and utilise financial concepts in their everyday lives. These include, but are not limited to, the management of personal finances, financial planning, saving, investing, and the analysis of financial products. Notwithstanding the considerable attention it has received in the academic literature, there remain significant research gaps. The objective is to examine the research trends in the adoption of financial literacy. The methodology employed was a systematic literature review, utilising Scopus and Web of Science as the data sources, in the 2018–2024-time window. The most frequently employed instruments were identified as surveys and questionnaires. The majority of studies are situated within the geographical contexts of Asia and Europe, with a particular focus on countries such as India, China, and Ukraine. Furthermore, the most pertinent target populations are adults who have undergone business training and cancer patients. The most frequently employed models were the self-model, the technology acceptance model (TAM), and the theory of planned behavior (TPB). The key variables identified were behavioral intention, perceived usefulness, and subjective norm. This study identified that the main research gap is the lack of geographic diversity in existing studies, which hinders a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the adoption of financial literacy globally. The practical and theoretical implications highlight the necessity for the development of educational policies and programmes that address cultural and socioeconomic differences. Furthermore, this study puts forth an integrative model that synthesizes these theoretical frameworks and variables to inform future research and practice in the domain of financial literacy.

Development of a Navigator-Delivered Health Insurance Education Program for Hispanic and Latine Communities.

Equitable access to health care services for Hispanic and Latine populations requires that systems go beyond working to increase enrollment in health insurance but also addressing health insurance literacy-the knowledge, ability, and confidence to find and use health insurance. In collaboration with a local health policy organization, individual interviews were conducted with Hispanic and Latine community members. Group engagement sessions were conducted with key professionals. Interviews and engagement sessions focused on the adaptation of an existing health insurance education program (HIEP) to Spanish-speaking Hispanic and Latine individuals. An outline of the proposed HIEP content was provided prior to each interview or engagement session. Qualitative content was analyzed using an inductive thematic analysis guided by the intervention adaptation literature. A total of N = 20 professionals participated in an engagement session, while N = 21 community members took part in an interview. Professionals worked in both health care systems (55%) and community organizations (45%). Community members were on average 41 years of age (SD = 13), 81% female, and 100% Hispanic or Latine. Qualitative analysis revealed that participants overwhelmingly supported the adaptation of the HIEP and approved of the proposed topics. Participants also provided recommendations to improve the intervention content and characteristics including a focus on controlling costs, tailoring to the population, ensuring accessibility of content, and specifics regarding the HIEP delivery and facilitator. Overall participants were supportive of the proposed HIEP adaptation and provided a variety of recommendations. Health insurance literacy was perceived as an important next step to enrollment in health insurance.

Prevalence of Malnutrition in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease at the Guayaquil Naval Hospital, 2017-2020

Objective: To determine the prevalence of malnutrition in patients with CKD not requiring dialysis treatment at the Hospital Naval de Guayaquil (HOSNAG) during the period January 2017 to December 2020. Theoretical Framework: The research focuses on the prevalence and factors associated with malnutrition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who do not yet require dialysis. It is based on the premise that malnutrition is a common problem in patients with CKD, despite recommendations for low-protein diets. The research aims to explore whether the VGS, a subjective nutritional assessment tool, is useful to identify these malnourished patients and whether BMI can be a predictor of malnutrition in this population. Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, prevalence-type study. Malnutrition was considered as two definitions: a BMI <20; a GSV B/C. Results and Discussion: 205 cases were recovered, with a median age of 64 years, being 95 (46.3%) female. There were 12/205 (5.9%) cases which presented a BMI <20, equivalent to malnutrition. Subjective global assessment A, B and C was estimated in 95 (46.3%), 87 (42.4%) and 23 (11.2%), respectively. The prevalence of malnutrition in CKD patients not requiring dialysis treatment at HOSNAG between January/2017 to December/2020 was 5.9% (95% CI 3.3 - 10%) estimated using a BMI <20, and 53.6% (95% CI 46.8 - 60%) using a B/C VGS. BMI is not a useful marker in the prediction of malnutrition in patients with CKD not requiring dialysis treatment, according to the VGS. Research implications: By more accurately identifying malnourished patients and the factors associated with this condition, more effective nutritional strategies can be implemented to improve their quality of life and survival. In addition, the results of this study can serve as a basis for the development of public policies and health education programs that promote better nutritional care for these patients. Originality/value: This research presents a remarkable originality by focusing on a segment of the chronic kidney disease (CKD) population that has been less explored in previous studies: those patients who do not yet require dialysis.

The role of AI adoption in transforming the accounting profession: a diffusion of innovations theory approach

Purpose This study aims to examine the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption on Tunisia’s accounting profession, using the diffusion of innovations theory (DIT) to explore opportunities and challenges. Design/methodology/approach A survey of 400 academics and professional accountants in Tunisia was conducted, focusing on three key areas: the effect of AI on professional roles and tasks, the enhancement of digital work environments and the development of educational programs. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the relationships among these variables, providing robust statistical insights. Findings The results indicate that AI adoption leads to a 75.7% improvement in the functionality and responsibilities of accounting professionals, a 72.1% enhancement in digital workplace productivity and a 58.4% increase in educational program effectiveness. Despite these positive outcomes, the study identifies significant challenges, including a 63.2% concern related to change management and a 59.8% need for substantial training and technical resources investment. To address these challenges, the findings advocate for targeted professional development programs, collaborative policymaking to establish implementation guidelines and a curriculum overhaul to equip future accountants with AI competencies. Research limitations/implications The findings suggest Tunisian organisations should invest in AI to achieve substantial efficiency and risk management gains. Practitioners, instructors and students are expected to increase their technology expertise to develop more effective accounting procedures in light of AI issues. Collaboration among policymakers, regulators and practitioners is essential to establish clear implementation guidelines. Originality/value This study offers theoretical contributions by applying the DIT to AI adoption within an emerging economy, providing a unique perspective on how AI drives digital transformation in the accounting sector. In addition, it delivers practical implications by identifying strategies for overcoming barriers to AI adoption, such as fostering organisational readiness, ensuring access to training resources and enhancing professional collaboration to enable successful AI integration.

Problems of Using the Poetic Corpus of Abay For Pedagogical Purposes and Ways to Solve It

The use of the Abai poetic corpus for pedagogical purposes represents a unique opportunity to deepen students’ knowledge of Kazakh literature, culture, and history. However, the introduction of this tool into the educational process faces a number of challenges that limit its potential. This article examines the main difficulties associated with the use of the corpus, including the lack of information awareness among teachers, the shortage of teaching materials, and the low level of technical training of teachers. Attention is also paid to pedagogical skepticism and the lack of time to master innovative methods. An important part of the study is the proposed solutions to these problems. Among them are the development of educational programs for teachers, the creation of adapted materials based on the poetic corpus, and the provision of technical and methodological support to schools. The author emphasizes the importance of integrating Abai’s poetic heritage into school education as a means of forming national identity and developing students’ analytical skills. This work is addressed to teachers, methodologists, and education specialists interested in using modern teaching tools.

The development and effects of an online parent sexuality education programme for preschool children in Türkiye

ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop an online sexuality education programme for the parents of children aged 3–6 years, by enhancing their knowledge of sexuality education, their attitudes towards sexuality education, their use of positive communication during sexuality education, and their awareness of sexual abuse. A quantitative semi-experimental design, using a Solomon four-group model, was adopted. The sample consisted of 410 parents in Ankara, Türkiye. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Sexual Development Knowledge Scale, the Sexual Education Attitude Scale, the Sexual Communication Scale, and the Child Sexual Abuse Knowledge/Attitude for Parents Scale. The data were analysed using paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-test, and ANCOVA. The online Parental Sexuality Education Programme for the Preschool Period was found to have a significant effect on the sexual knowledge levels, attitudes, communication, and awareness of sexual abuse of the parents. According to findings of a follow-up test performed 12 weeks later, the programme exhibited retention in sexual development knowledge, positive attitudes towards sexual education, and sexual communication. Retention was not achieved in relation to sexual abuse knowledge/attitudes.

Objectives This study aims to analyze research trends in university AI-based education and provide implications for future university AI-based education research. Methods This study was conducted from August 2024 to October 2024. This study analyzed previous studies to set analysis categories and collected 60 domestic academic journals as analysis target papers. This study analyzed and described the research period, research type, research content, major field, related variables, class type, class period, AI tools, etc. Results First, the most research on university AI utilization was conducted in 2023 and 2024. Second, the trend by research type showed that quantitative research was highly weighted, followed by qualitative research, mixed research, and literature research. Third, in terms of trends by major field, ‘Korean language and literature’ was the most utilized. Fourth, in terms of trends by research content, the most research was conducted on the development and effectiveness of AI-based education programs. Fifth, in terms of trends by related variables, AI-utilizing education was the most utilized independent variable, and academic achievement was the most utilized dependent variable. Sixth, in terms of trends by class type, the proportion of subject areas was high, and the proportion of majors was higher than that of liberal arts. Seventh, the trends by class period were most frequent in 4 and 5 weeks. Eighth, in terms of AI-utilizing tools, ChatGPT was highly utilized. Conclusions The significance of this study lies in its analysis of research trends in university AI-based education and its suggestions for future research directions.

An analysis of knowledge, attitudes, practice and influencing factors for tuberculosis prevention and control among Hainan University students.

To assess the current status of knowledge, attitude, and practice pertaining to tuberculosis prevention among college students in Hainan Province, China, and to identify influential factors. The findings of this study are intended to provide valuable insights for the development and implementation of effective health education programs aimed at tuberculosis prevention and control. A convenient sampling method was employed to conduct a questionnaire-based survey among college students at a university in Hainan Province using the Wenjuanxing platform from January to February 2023. The survey evaluated students' general information and their knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding tuberculosis prevention and control. The scores of correct knowledge, attitude, and practice were compared based on students' demographic characteristics. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the influencing factors of students' knowledge, attitude, and practice related to tuberculosis prevention and control. A total of 280 questionnaires were distributed, of which 265 valid responses were collected, resulting in a valid response rate of 94.6%. The study found that medical students exhibited higher levels of correct knowledge, attitude, and practice compared to non-medical students (5.92 vs. 5.17, 3.17 vs. 2.57, 3.48 vs. 2.78, respectively). Moreover, students who had received tuberculosis education had higher correct scores compared to those who had not (5.92 vs. 5.31, 3.08 vs. 2.65, 3.31 vs. 2.93, respectively). Additionally, students in higher grades demonstrated higher scores in attitude. Three variables were found to influence students' knowledge, attitude, and practice related to tuberculosis prevention and control, accounting for 33.4% of the explanatory power (F = 11.930; p < 0.001). Grade, major, and whether they had received tuberculosis education included. The study revealed a generally poor level of awareness among college students regarding tuberculosis prevention and control knowledge and the importance of regular physical exercise. Grade, major, and whether students had received tuberculosis education were identified as influencing factors. These factors should be prioritized in university tuberculosis education programs. Moreover, the implementation of physical education in schools is crucial in promoting students' health.

Developing Speaking Skills in Arabic Learners who are Non-Native Speakers: A Descriptive and Analytical Study

This study explores the development of speaking skills among Arabic language learners who are non-native speakers, considering it a fundamental skill for achieving effective communication that allows learners to participate confidently in various life situations. The research emphasizes the importance of the interactive aspect of teaching, drawing on social and cultural theories that view interaction as a key means of language acquisition. The study presents the various challenges faced by learners, including linguistic difficulties, cultural gaps, and the fear of making mistakes, and proposes a range of solutions to address these challenges, such as adopting interactive activities, promoting active listening, and providing constructive feedback. It also recommends the use of modern technology to create a communicative environment that transcends the limits of the traditional classroom, offering learners opportunities to interact with native Arabic speakers in diverse ways. The study further advocates for the development of educational programs that consider cultural diversity and integrate Arabic culture into the educational content, aiming to enhance learners' understanding of the linguistic and cultural context, which in turn helps build their confidence when speaking, in line with the guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Cultivating resilience through a community of inquiry: how academic emotions impact the professional growth of pre-service teachers

ABSTRACT This research investigates the academic emotions of pre-service primary school teachers in Hong Kong and the influence of these emotions on professional resilience. It can inform the development of teacher education programmes that address holistic emotional competencies. Applying the community of inquiry (CoI) framework as a conceptual lens, we focused on the cognitive, social and teaching presence of seven first-year Postgraduate Diploma in Education students. Data were collected through reflective journals and interviews and subjected to thematic analysis. We adopted an interpretivist paradigm and used the CoI framework as a scaffold to identify themes related to cognitive, social and teaching presence. The qualitative analysis indicated that the participants’ practicum experiences were characterised by the complex interplay of the three forms of presence, which contributed to professional growth and resilience. They encountered cognitive challenges that elicited strong emotional responses, found strength in their social connections and received guidance from experienced teachers. This study provides valuable insights for teachers, policymakers and teacher educators who aim to enhance support systems and foster professional resilience among pre-service teachers.

Qualitative assessment of primary care providers' attitudes toward genetic services and genetics education.

As the role of primary care providers (PCPs) in genetic medicine increases, there is a need for training related to the integration of genetics into primary care. However, little is known about PCPs' attitudes towards and perceived needs for such training. We conducted semi-structured interviews with nine PCPs to capture information about their perceptions of their role in genetics and their continuing medical educational needs related to genetics in primary care, and we conducted thematic analysis. The identified themes fell into the following topics: perceptions of genetics, PCPs' roles in genetics, common reasons for referrals to genetic services, barriers to referrals to genetic services, genetic tests ordered by PCPs, and PCPs' educational needs regarding genetics. The most common perception of genetics was for the indication of personal or family history of cancer. PCPs' self-described role in genetics fell into two categories: recognition for when a referral for genetic services is warranted and education of families. Participants were divided in their opinion as to whether they should order genetic tests. PCP's education needs fell into four main categories: how and when to refer to genetic services, test interpretation, basic genetics, and co-management of genetic conditions, with a particular emphasis on cancer. While PCPs expressed an interest in further genetics education, they also questioned the applicability of genetics to their practice. The information obtained in this study can help inform the development of successful education activities and programs in genetics for PCPs.

Problems of forming political literacy of youth

In the modern world, political literacy of young people is becoming one of the most important factors determining their active participation in socio-political life. The relevance of this topic is due to the fact that young people, representing a significant part of the population, often face problems of low political awareness, which affects their activity and influence on the processes taking place in the country. The purpose of this study is to analyze the main problems that affect the formation of political literacy of young people. The main findings show that a low level of political literacy negatively affects the degree of involvement of young people in political processes, which requires the development of effective educational programs and initiatives aimed at raising their awareness. Prospects for further research include the need for a thorough study of the influence of mass media on the formation of political literacy of young people, as well as the development of new approaches to educational strategies that could contribute to more active participation of young people in political life. The authors propose various forms of work with young people to improve the level of political literacy of young people (holding debates and election simulations, involving young people in volunteer initiatives and projects aimed at solving social problems).

Developing a Psychiatry Residency Program in a Low- and Middle-Income Country: Botswana's Experience.

Like many other low- and middle-income countries, Botswana has struggled to address the shortage of doctors, particularly specialists. In 2009, the country's first medical school offering an undergraduate medical program was established. A needs and feasibility assessment was conducted with relevant stakeholders to explore the need for specialty training programs in all medical school departments. As a result, three residency programs were established a year after the undergraduate program, but psychiatry was not included in this first crop of residency programs. Existing strengths in the university and healthcare systems were leveraged to successfully establish a four-year Master of Medicine residency program in psychiatry, which began in January 2020. The program aims to produce psychiatrists who are familiar with the local mental health needs. The first batch of students completed their training in December 2023. This paper reflects on and describes the development of a psychiatry residency program in Botswana and contributes a process grounded in educational program development models and educational theories that others can utilize. Botswana's experience may be helpful to other low- and middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, that want to establish and run a locally developed residency program in psychiatry.

Knowledge and Attitude among Nurses Towards Pressure Ulcer Prevention at Palestinian Hospital

Background: Pressure ulcers (PU) remain a serious complication of immobile patients and a burden for healthcare professionals. The incidence and prevalence remain alarming. Knowledge and attitudes of nurses play a fundamental role in prevention. Aim of the study to assess knowledge and attitude towards pressure ulcer prevention in Palestinian hospital. Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted at fourth hospitals in Jenin and Nablus for one month from 1-4-2023 to 1-5-2023, a sample size was 150 participant, who met inclusion and exclusion criteria, data was collected by three section, first section was nurse’s demographic characteristics, second section was PressureUlcer Prevention Knowledge Assessment Instrument (PUPKAI), and third section was Attitude towards Pressure Ulcer Prevention Instrument (APUP) Result: The main result on our study shows that the level of nurse’s knowledge regarding PrUs preventive measures at Palestinian hospitals is low, and the level of nurse’s attitude regarding PrUs preventive measures at Palestinian Hospitals is high, and there is no significant relationship between knowledge and attitude regarding PrUs preventive measure among nurse’s at the Palestinian Hospitals. Conclusion: Results showed insufficiencies in the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards PU prevention. Therefore, it is essential to focus on general education and continuing education and practice of nurses. Further development of educational programs and frequent measurement of these two parameters can lead to a significant improvement in the quality of care provided
