New Insights into Aspirin's Anticancer Activity: The Predominant Role of Its Iron-Chelating Antioxidant Metabolites.

Epidemiological studies have suggested that following long-term, low-dose daily aspirin (LTLDA) administration for more than 5 years at 75-100 mg/day, 20-30% of patients (50-80 years old) had a lower risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC) and about the same proportion in developing iron deficiency anemia (IDA). In cases of IDA, an increase in iron excretion is suspected, which is caused by aspirin chelating metabolites (ACMs): salicylic acid, salicyluric acid, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, and 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid. The ACMs constitute 70% of the administered aspirin dose and have much longer half-lives than aspirin in blood and tissues. The mechanisms of cancer risk reduction in LTLDA users is likely due to the ACM's targeting of iron involved in free radical damage, iron-containing toxins, iron proteins, and associated metabolic pathways such as ferroptosis. The ACMs from non-absorbed aspirin (about 30%) may also mitigate the toxicity of heme and nitroso-heme and other iron toxins from food, which are responsible for the cause of colorectal cancer. The mode of action of aspirin as a chelating antioxidant pro-drug of the ACMs, with continuous presence in LTLDA users, increases the prospect for prophylaxis in cancer and other diseases. It is suggested that the anticancer effects of aspirin depend primarily on the iron-chelating antioxidant activity of the ACMs. The role of aspirin in cancer and other diseases is incomplete without considering its rapid biotransformation and the longer half-life of the ACMs.

Determination of red blood cell parameters for signs of iron deficiency anemia in patients with oral diseases.

A lack of healthy red blood cells such as iron deficiency frequently consequences as anemia. In expectant women, iron deficiency increases the risk of developmental delays in the fetus. It is utilized to regenerate red blood cells (RBC), which determines the storage and transport of oxygen in the body. As for oral symptoms and indications, it has an inclusive of atrophic glossitis, oral mucosa atrophy, and oral mucosa tenderness or a sensation with burning in mouth. The objective is to determine RBC parameters for iron deficiency anemia (IDA) symptoms in oral disease patients. Normal and oral disease patients' blood is collected in a 2-mL EDTA vial for the hematology analyzer. With file number SRB/SDC/UG-2155/22/493, the institutional ethical approval committee approved this study: 10 controls (without anemia) and 10 patients with oral disease (with anemia). In oral disease patients with anemia, a decreased hemoglobin level is observed. In this study, nearly all anemic patients have IDA. In IDA, the RBC count decreases, the MCV decreases, the MCH decreases, and the RDW rises. We have analyzed various iron deficiency anemia indices. Ricercari and Eshani demonstrate a significant change in it. In predicting iron deficiency anemia, our results indicate that oral patients have significant differences in hematological parameters that are individual. It demonstrates that oral disease patients are developing iron deficiency anemia than controls (healthy). Additionally, the discrimination indices reveal that they do not have hemoglobinopathies but rather iron deficiencies. Oral manifestations are more prevalent in Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) patients than in healthy patients, according to our findings.

Criteria for identifying a risk group for iron deficiency anemia from among healthy women of reproductive age

The article presents the results of a survey of healthy women of reproductive age with the definition of criteria for identifying a risk group for anemia from among them. The criteria were the indicators of peripheral blood: a decrease in the concentration of Hb (below 120.0 g/l) of blood and hematocrit, an expansion of RDW, a decrease in the volume of red blood cells (MCV), as well as a decrease in the amount of serum iron, ferritin, total protein that do not reach the lower limit of normal and the presence of a history of diagnosis of somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. The application of the identified criteria for the early diagnosis of iron deficiency will allow effective timely preventive measures to prevent the development of iron deficiency anemia in women of reproductive age.

Iron deficiency anemia among infants: a retrospective cohort study

Postnatal iron deficiency, especially from ages 6 to 24 months, has long-term consequences lasting into adolescence and adulthood. We aimed to characterize iron deficiency anemia among infants from one central Israeli district by demographic and laboratory parameters. A retrospective chart review was performed on all infants from a single district who had undergone a complete blood count as part of a routine survey for iron deficiency anemia during 2010–2021. Data retrieved included hemoglobin levels, mean corpuscular volume, and demographic features: sex, sector (non-ultraorthodox Jew, ultraorthodox Jew, and Arab), socioeconomic status, and type of residence. The study group comprised 101,650 infants, aged 9 to 18 months. Iron deficiency anemia, defined as a hemoglobin level <11 g/dL and mean corpuscular volume <70 fl was observed in 4296 (4.2%) of the study infants. Iron deficiency anemia was more prevalent among Arab and ultraorthodox Jewish infants, than non-ultraorthodox Jewish infants (6.6% vs. 6% vs. 3%, respectively). It was also more prevalent among infants of low socioeconomic status, and relatively common among infants of rural residence. We identified two specific sub-populations at risk of developing iron deficiency anemia: Arab and ultraorthodox Jewish infants. We recommend enhancing the nationwide intervention program for both clinicians and parents, thereby treating iron deficiency anemia promptly to avoid short- and long-term deleterious health consequences.

Influence of an iron dextran injection in various diseases on hematological blood parameters, including serum ferritin, neonatal dairy calves

BackgroundFeeding milk substitutes with low iron content or whole milk without iron supplementation is considered a major factor in developing iron-deficiency anemia in neonatal dairy calves. Young calves are often supplemented with iron dextran injections on the first day of life to prevent anemia. However, the effects of preventive treatment and the presence of disease on serum iron (Fe) concentrations, serum ferritin levels, and hematological blood parameters during the early neonatal stages have not been examined in detail. Therefore, we examined and evaluated the effects of iron dextran injections and health status on the development of hematocrit (Ht), red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin concentration (Hb), erythrocyte indices (mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), Fe, and serum ferritin concentrations in dairy calves within the first 10 days of life. The suitability of serum ferritin as a reliable indicator of anemia in very young calves was evaluated by correlating ferritin concentrations with known laboratory diagnostic parameters of anemia.ResultsIron supplementation significantly increased Fe levels (P = 0.048) but did not affect serum ferritin levels in neonatal calves. Fe concentrations were significantly lower in diseased than healthy calves (P = 0.0417). Iron supplementation significantly affected the health status, as observed in Ht (Ptreat=0.0057; Phealth=0.0097), RBC (Ptreat=0.0342; Phealth=0.0243), and Hb (Ptreat=0.0170; Phealth=0.0168). Serum ferritin levels did not significantly correlate with Fe levels. Both groups showed marked differences in ferritin levels, with the highest levels measured on day 2. Fe concentrations showed weak negative correlations with Hb and Ht levels on day 3 (ρ=-0.45; P = 0.0034 and ρ=-0.045; P = 0.0032, respectively). RBC count showed strong positive correlations with Hb and Ht levels (ρ = 0.91 and ρ = 0.93; P < 0.001).ConclusionIron dextran injections increased Fe concentrations but reduced Ht level, RBC count, and Hb level. The presence of diseases led to a reduction in Fe and higher values of Ht, RBC, and Hb in moderate disease than in severe disease. Due to physiological fluctuations during the first 3 days of life, serum ferritin level seems unuseful for evaluating iron storage before day 4 of life.

Maintaining Normal Serum Ferritin Levels During Pregnancy: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Daily versus Weekly Ferrous Sulfate

Background: Serum ferritin is the most reliable indication of stored iron in pregnancy, offering a noninvasive way to detect iron deficiency anemia before it occurs. Therefore, this study aimed to determine serum ferritin levels among women receiving daily versus weekly iron supplementation, with a secondary focus on comparing the proportion developing iron deficiency anemia and compli-ance rates between the two groups.Methods: This non-blinded randomized control trial involved non-anaemic pregnant women attend-ing antenatal clinics at two Teaching Hospitals in Osun State. One hundred twenty-five subjects were recruited to receive 65mg in the control group, while another 125 subjects in the active group re-ceived three tablets (195mg) of ferrous sulfate (Fesulf) once weekly for 17 weeks from the 20th to 37th weeks of gestation. The primary outcome measure was comparing mean serum ferritin levels in both groups at 37 weeks.Results: Among the 240 subjects analyzed, the 37-week serum ferritin level was higher in the daily group (73.26±26.67μg/L) compared to the weekly group (63.04±30.71 μg/L), p value=0.006. Four (3.36%) and 10 (8.26%) of our subjects had Iron deficiency anaemia. Nine subjects (3.75%) reported dyspepsia as a side effect. Daily 65 mg of Felsulf proved more effective than weekly 195mg in main-taining normal blood ferritin levels during pregnancy.Conclusions: Daily iron supplementation with 65mg ferrous sulfate was more effective at main-taining adequate maternal iron concentration in this group of non-anaemic pregnant women. This dosage is recommended for routine iron supplementation in our environment.

Latent iron deficiency in Indian women and children: A descriptive analysis

Iron deficiency is a global health concern, particularly in developing countries like India. While overt iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is well-documented, Latent Iron Deficiency (LID), a precursor to IDA, remains under-recognized. This study aims to elucidate the proportion of the Indian population with latent iron deficiency and underscore the importance of early detection of this condition.: 344624 anonymized medical records available through a personal health record (PHR) application developed by Eka Care, a health information technology company, were analysed. The ethical handling of data ensured that no personally identifiable information (PII) was accessible or utilized during the research process.: Children aged 5-15 years had a LID prevalence of 32.7% (95% CI:27.4%,37.9%) while women aged 15-49 years had a prevalence of 31.5% (95% CI:30.3%,32.6%). 9% (95% CI: 8.5%,9.5%) of men in the same age group had LID.This study revealed a significant burden of latent iron deficiency among Indian women and children. By implementing targeted screening and intervention strategies, one can improve health outcomes and break the cycle of iron deficiency in these vulnerable populations.LID poses a serious risk for developing iron deficiency anemia (IDA) during and after pregnancy. Iron deficiency can adversely affect maternal and fetal health.This burden of LID highlights the critical need for routine screening and early intervention to prevent these adverse outcomes.

Iron Deficiency Anemia in Patients with Chronic Renal Insufficiency at Tertiary Care Hospital in Northern Punjab

Anemia is a frequently encountered complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) leading to worse outcomes in terms of quality of life and premature death. However, the current prevalence of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in CKD is understudied in Pakistan. Objective: To assess the frequency of IDA in patients with CKD at Bewal International Hospital, Gujar Khan, Pakistan. Methods: A cross-sectional was executed at the Department of Nephrology, Bewal International Hospital, Pakistan from January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022. The study comprised 97 patients aged &gt;13 years of either gender having CKD (GFR &lt;60 ml/min/1.73m²) for at least 90 days. All patients were tested for serum creatinine, ferritin, and hemoglobin levels. IDA was considered if hemoglobin was ≤12 mg/dL in women and ≤13 mg/dL in men. Results: Among 97 patients, there were 57(58.7%) males and 40(41.3%) females. The mean age was 51.23 ± 12.99 years while the mean disease duration was 6.01 ± 1.610 years. 57(58.7%) patients had IDA. IDA was more frequent in women with CKD (67.5%), compared to men (52.64%). However, this association was statically insignificant (p&gt;0.05). When data was stratified, a substantial association was found between IDA and the stage of CKD (p=0.007). There was no significant association between IDA and disease duration (p&gt;0.05). Conclusions: It was concluded that anemia is common in CKD patients, with a high prevalence in females. Stage 3–5 CKD is significantly associated with developing iron deficiency anemia. Early identification and timely management can avoid unfavorable outcomes in these patients.

New options for replenishing the iron stores in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding

Introduction. The high incidence of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) (over 30%) among patients of reproductive age is accompanied by the development of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA), which, in turn, is a social problem among global burden diseases throughout the world.Aim. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and compliance with the Vojea complex regimen to prevent IDA in women with abnormal uterine bleeding.Materials and methods. A multicentre clinical observational study was conducted in 6 health care facilities and women’s health clinics in Yekaterinburg and Moscow. The study included 52 patients with latent iron deficiency (serum ferritin level &lt; 15 ng/ml) who were diagnosed with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) due to ovulatory dysfunction. All patients received Vojea complex at a dose of 1 tablet QD for 3 months while taking pharmaceutical therapy for AUB. The clinical and laboratory efficacy and medication compliance were assessed at 30, 60 and 90 days after initiation of treatment.Results. Starting from the 1st month of treatment with the study complex, positive trends in clinical and laboratory findings were observed in both groups. After the three-month therapy with Vojea, ferritin levels increased 5.4 times (a clinically significant growth was reported after the two-month intake), plasma folate levels increased 4.9 times and red blood cell folate concentrations increased by 45%. The complex therapy helped reach and maintain the average red blood cell folate concentration &gt;400 ng/ml (906 nmol/l). Side effects included isolated events of gastrointestinal dyspepsia and individual intolerance. All patients reported good and excellent tolerance of the complex, which ensured high compliance with the drug regimen (92%).Conclusion. The three-month therapy with Vojea complex as part of the combination approach to the treatment of AUB in women with latent iron deficiency showed high clinical and laboratory efficacy, as well as good compliance with the drug regimen.

The effect of Dadih for the prevention of iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls 12-15 years old

Adolescent girls are at risk of developing iron deficiency anemia. Dadih has high nutritional value and iron and probiotics. This study aimed to analyze the effect of administering Dadih to prevent iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls aged 12-15. This study used a randomized controlled trial pre-posttest group design, which consisted of an intervention and control group totalling 40 participants taken randomly at the Sumatera Thawalib Parabek Bukittinggi Islamic Boarding School from February to June 2023. In both groups, serum ferritin and hemoglobin levels were measured before and after treatment for 14 days. The intervention group was administered 100 g of Dadih 1x a day, and the control group was administered a placebo. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon statistical and Paired T-test at a 95%CI. Results: There was a significant difference in the hemoglobin levels before and after treatment (p=0,003). There was no significant difference in serum ferritin levels before and after treatment (p=0,191). In conclusion, the administration of 100 g of dadih did not increase serum ferritin and hemoglobin levels, and the independent administration of 100 g of Dadih to prevent iron deficiency anemia still needs to be considered.

To identify risk factors related to a higher prevalence of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia and propose strategies for prevention. A literature review was conducted by 22 people from the scientific departments of nutrology and hematology at SBP. The risk factors for the development of iron deficiency anemia were low maternal reserve (pregnant woman with anemia without adequate treatment, breastfeeding woman without adequate iron supplementation, short interval between pregnancies, malnutrition), decrease in iron supply (umbilical cord clamping before one minute, vegetarianism, whole cows milk), newborn with low iron reserve (prematurity, low weight) and iron malabsorption (decreased gastric acidity, malabsorption syndrome). As a strategy to prevent the repercussions of iron deficiency (cognitive alterations, short stature, frequent infections), we recommend starting iron prophylaxis in full-term children, regardless of the type of diet, at 90 days of life; and for those with risk factors for iron deficiency anemia, at 180 days of life. The laboratory diagnosis of iron deficiency should be made with serum ferritin and CRP levels (to rule out infection) and the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia with concomitant red blood cell count and reticulocyte. Pediatricians should be aware of the importance of iron deficiency anemia in Brazil and the need to prevent iron deficiency, especially at the beginning of life, avoiding the long-term consequences of this deficiency that have repercussions on child neurodevelopment.

In recent years, the number of reported cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C - Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children) in children after COVID-19 infection has been increasing. This syndrome usually manifests itself 4-8 weeks after the disease. It is necessary to learn how to diagnose it in time and prevent possible complications from the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular and other systems, and to pay attention to the prevention of children from COVID-19 infection through vaccination. Purpose - to analyze the information from the current professional literature on the peculiarities of diagnosis, course and treatment of MIS-C in children after COVID-19 infection to expand the knowledge of doctors about this pathology by presenting clinical case. We present a clinical case of MIS-C in a child after COVID-19 infection. The literature data from PubMed, Medscape, CDC, Mayo Clinic were analyzed. The peculiarity of the presented case is the long-term damage to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, skin lesions, and the development of iron deficiency anemia. During her hospital stay, the girl's condition was severe due to asthenic, anemic syndrome, and cardiovascular damage. Conclusions. The presented clinical observation confirms the complexity of the algorithm for diagnosing complications of COVID infection in children, especially in their asymptomatic course. Thus, pediatricians should be alert to the development of multisystem inflammatory syndrome MIS-C in children after COVID-19 infection and increase the level of knowledge about the correct diagnostic algorithm in such cases. The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. The informed consent of the child’s parents was obtained for the study. No conflict of interests was declared by the authors.

Possible link between statin and iron deficiency anemia: A South Korean nationwide population-based cohort study.

An extensive evaluation of disease occurrence after statin use based on a "hypothesis-free" approach remains scarce. To examine the effect of statin use on the potential risk of developing diseases, a propensity score-matched cohort study was executed using data from the National Sample Cohort in South Korea. A total of 7847 statin users and 39,235 nonstatin users were included in the final analysis. The period of statin use was defined as our main time-dependent exposure and was divided into three periods: current, recent, and past. The main outcomes were defined as new-onset diseases with ≥100 events based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision. We calculated the adjusted hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using Cox regression. We found that statin use significantly increased the risk of developing iron deficiency anemia up to 5.04 times (95% CI, 2.11 to 12.03). Therefore, the iron levels of patients using statins should be monitored carefully.

Abnormal uterine bleeding (clinical lecture)

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) not related to pregnancy has been one of the leading reasons for visiting a gynecologist for many years. The incidence of AUB is approximately 30% among patients of reproductive age and can increase to 70% during the perimenopausal period. Recurrent AUB leads to the development of iron deficiency anemia, significantly reducing the quality of life, and also resulting in additional costs for hygiene products.&#x0D; This clinical lecture provides a modern classification of AUB. It focuses on the main mechanisms of development of this pathology in adolescence and reproductive age. The causes of AUB are analyzed, and the classification, symptomatology, and clinical presentation of the studied conditions are presented. The lecture covers international criteria for pathologic uterine bleeding, clinical criteria for assessing bleeding severity according to MansfieldVodeJorgensen scale and estimation of blood loss volume according to Algover index. Detailed consideration is given to the issues of differential diagnosis, general principles of therapy, and indications for traditional, hormonal, and surgical hemostasis. The lecture also outlines the algorithm of diagnostic search for patients in the adolescent, reproductive, postmenopausal age groups, as well as for patients on the background of menopausal hormonal therapy.

Iron deficiency and sexual dysfunction in women.

Sexual dysfunction negatively affects approximately 40% to 50% of adult women across various stages of life. Common risk factors include sexual traumas, relationship problems, chronic conditions, medication side effects, and poor physical health, including iron deficiency. This review summarizes a presentation from a symposium that discussed the types and causes of sexual dysfunction at key times in women's lives, focusing on the relationship between iron deficiency and sexual dysfunction. The symposium was held at the XV Annual European Urogynaecological Association Congress, Antibes, France, in October 2022. Symposium content was identified through literature searches of PubMed. Original research, review articles, and Cochrane analyses discussing sexual dysfunction in association with iron deficiency/anemia were included. Iron deficiency in women is commonly caused by abnormal uterine bleeding, but women may develop iron deficiency anemia (IDA) because of increased iron needs or reduced iron intake/absorption. Treatment with oral iron supplementation has been shown to improve sexual function in women with IDA. Ferrous sulphate is considered as a standard of care for oral iron treatment; prolonged-release iron formulations have improved tolerability, enabling lower doses and better tolerability. IDA and sexual dysfunction are related, so the identification of sexual dysfunction or iron deficiency in a woman should prompt an investigation of the other condition. Testing for iron deficiency is an inexpensive and simple step that can be routinely included in the workup of women with sexual dysfunction. Once identified, IDA and sexual dysfunction in women should be treated and followed to optimize quality of life.

Medicines based on compounds of iron, copper and zinc occupy a certain place in the pharmaceutical market. A lack of iron in the body can contribute to the development of iron deficiency anemia, and in the case of copper and zinc, a deficiency in the immune response and inflammation caused by lipid peroxidation, which ultimately leads to various joint diseases such as arthritis. The basis of the treatment and prevention of diseases is the use of chelates of salts of iron, copper and zinc, the effectiveness of which largely depends on their stability and the degree of release of trace elements in various parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, there is a need to create new long-acting drugs with a certain solubility and sufficient bioavailability. This study is devoted to the development of the optimal composition of iron, copper and zinc humate matrix tablets for oral administration.

The role of &lt;i&gt;Helicobacter pylori&lt;/i&gt; in the development of iron defi ciency anaemia in children

A review article is devoted to the analysis of scientific and literary data published over the past 10 years, devoted to the problem of studying the role of Helicobacter pylori in the development of iron deficiency anaemia in children and adolescents. Comparative data of domestic and foreign scientists on the mechanism of exposure of Helicobacter pylori (НР) to the pathogenesis of resistant iron deficiency anaemia in children are given.It was determined that the development of iron deficiency anaemia in children with HP infection is influenced by many mechanisms, therefore, in the treatment of children with this pathology, the appointment of anti- HP bacterial therapy with ferrotherapy, taking into account age-related characteristics and needs, is justified.

Frequency of Iron Deficiency Anaemia in Exclusively Breastfed and Infants Fed on Cow’s Milk

Introduction: Iron is the most prevalent nutrient deficiency in infants and young children around the world despite its importance for healthy brain development. Infants who drink whole cow's milk or other animal milks are at a greater risk of developing iron deficiency anaemia. In our culture, cow's milk consumption is widespread. There were no local studies available on iron deficiency anemia in infants using different types of milk so need for the present study was felt. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of exclusively breastfed and cow’s milk fed infants at 3 month of age and to compare the frequency of iron deficiency anemia in exclusively breastfed and cow’s milk fed infants. Study Design: It was a cross-sectional study. Setting and Duration: Research was conducted at the Medical Outpatient Department of The Children’s Hospital and The Institute of Child Health Lahore from 08/02/2022 to 07/08/2022. Material and Methods: This study involved 220 infants of both genders at 3 months of age presenting for vaccination. Outcome variables were frequency of exclusive breast feeding and iron deficiency anemia. All patients' guardians signed an informed consent form. Results: There were 115 (52.3%) male and 105 (47.7%) female patients in the study group. The Hb of the patients ranged from 7.6 g/dl to 14.5 g/dl with a mean of 11.00±1.98 g/dl while the serum iron level ranged from 41 µg/dl to 115 µg/dl with a mean of 67.94±22.99 µg/dl. Majority of the parents (56.4%) belonged to poor class and 46.4% mothers were illiterate. The frequency of exclusive breastfed infants was 45 (20.5%). There was no significant difference in the frequency of exclusive breast feeding across gender (p=0.873), socioeconomic (p=0.900) and educational (p=0.858) status. 76 (34.5%) Infants had iron deficiency anemia. The frequency of iron deficiency anemia was higher among infants on cow’s milk (37.7% vs. 22.2%) as compared to those on exclusive breast feeding however the observed difference was statistically insignificant (p=0.051). Similar insignificant difference was observed across gender, socioeconomic and educational status groups. Conclusion: The frequency of exclusive breastfed infants was 45 (20.5%). There was no significant difference in the frequency of exclusive breast feeding across gender (p=0.873), socioeconomic (p=0.900) and educational (p=0.858) status. 76 (34.5%) Infants had iron deficiency anemia. The frequency of iron deficiency anemia was insignificantly higher among infants on cow’s milk (37.7% vs. 22.2%; p=0.051) as compared to those on exclusive breast feeding. Unusual symptoms of iron deficiency anemia (2 clinical observations)

Iron deficiency is a leading cause of anemia, the most common malnutrition worldwide, affecting 42% of children worldwide. Most often, iron deficiency occurs in children of the first year of life and adolescents; its prevalence in adolescents has pronounced gender differences. In Russia, it is much more common in girls in 17.231.0% of cases, which is 1.6 times higher than in boys. The presence of delayed adverse effects of iron deficiency at an early age has been established, therefore, timely correction of sideropenic conditions in young children is important for the prevention of long-term consequences of a childs development. The article presents two clinical cases of iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls who had iron deficiency in the first year of life. On the example of the first clinical observation, we observe the development of alopecia against the background of severe sideropenia as part of the epithelial syndrome with iron deficiency anemia of moderate severity. Iron deficiency in this case is multifactorial maternal anemia during pregnancy, spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage, shunt infection, and uncorrected iron deficiency in the first two years. The second clinical example illustrates iron deficiency anemia of mixed genesis in a teenage girl, which was the result of insufficient iron stores at birth, alimentary insufficiency, aggravated against the background of heavy, prolonged menstruation. In this case, there is no hair loss, despite the more severe course of anemia, a long refractory period with iron therapy. The data of clinical cases confirm the significance of low iron stores at birth in the risk of developing iron deficiency anemia in puberty. During the examination of children, the need to take into account the state of the gastrointestinal tract in the algorithm for diagnosing the state of the gastrointestinal tract (detection of malabsorption, blood loss) was shown.
