Patterns, local grammars, and the design of English teaching materials1

AbstractThis paper explores the applications of pattern grammar and local grammar in English language teaching, focusing specifically on the design of teaching materials. It shows that grammar patterns can be systematically analysed from a local grammar perspective, and further argues that the practice of local grammar analyses helps to raise language learners’ awareness of the patterned nature of language in use and the close association between patterns and meanings. These in turn offer insights into materials writing. A sample coursebook unit is then offered to exemplify how pattern grammar and local grammar can be applied to derive pedagogical materials for English language teaching.

The Development of educational materials in Arabic Writing Lesson at Babussalam Islamic Boarding School

Teaching material is an important aspect for teaching and learning activities, In babusasalam boarding school teaching material for writing skills is very needed. All students must be able to write Arabic language properly and correctly, but the fact there are many student can't to write it properly. This happened, because the teaching and learning activities in Arabic Writing lesson did not have any teaching materials relevant to student needs. Therefore, the researcher wants to developing teaching materials on Arabic Writting lesson with the aim teaching material be able to be reference for the teacher. In this study, researchers used Research and Development theory. For data collection, the method using are : observation, interviews, documentation, trials and test. The results from post-test and pre-test showed that the teaching material is effective for teaching arabic writing lesson. The development of teaching materials is carried out in the following stages; 1) preliminary study, 2) planning and developing material, 3) validity of experts, 4) specification of material objectives and teaching steps 5) design of teaching materials 6) Validity Test.

Fun Science Teaching Materials on the Energy Transformation to Promote Students’ Scientific Literacy

This study aims to develop fun science teaching material on the energy transformation to promote scientific literacy of junior high school students. The research is a four-D design of Research and Development. The validity of designed teaching materials had been determined by experts and science teachers. Scientific literacy achievements and student’s responds were obtained using scientific literacy test and questionnaire on 95 students. Data analysis was carried out in a quantitative descriptive. The result of this study shows the fun science design contains the concepts of energy transformation that are presented contextually in form of comics strip and science songs, the validity score from experts and teachers were 87.5% and 93.5% respectively, N-gain of 62%, and most of students agree with the use of fun science teaching materials. Thus, fun science teaching material can be used in science learning to promote scientific literacy.

Development of Mathematics Teaching Material Based on Lampungnese Ethomathematics

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang bertujuan untuk menghasilkan bahan ajar matematika berbasis Lampungnese etnomatematics. Metode penelitian terdiri dari (1) pengumpulan data; (2) perancangan bahan ajar; (3) pengembangan bahan ajar; (4) validasi I bahan ajar; (5) revisi I hasil validasi; (6) validasi II; (7) revisi II; (8) uji coba produk; (9) revisi akhir dan produksi bahan ajar. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada siswa kelas IV di SDN 3 Kemiling Permai. Hasil validasi bahan ajar dari ahli matematika dan ahli budaya Lampung memberikan skor rata-rata 3,86 yang dikategorikan baik atau layak, sedangkan validasi bahan ajar oleh guru matematika memberikan skor rata-rata 3,95 yang dikategorikan baik atau layak. Pada uji coba kelas kecil diperoleh skor rata-rata angket respon siswa sebesar 3,72 yang dikategorikan baik atau layak. Kemudian uji coba kelas besar diperoleh skor rata-rata angket respon siswa sebesar 3,89 yang dikategorikan baik atau layak. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahan ajar matematika berbasis lampungnese etnomatematics dikategorikan baik dan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran matematika di sekolah dasar.

INITIATION OF INTERACTION AS THE BEGINNING OF SOCIAL PARTICIPATION: CONVERSATION ANALYSIS OF A JAPANESE SENIOR CLUB

The rate of social participation of senior citizens in a senior club’s activities is not equal to the rate of desire for the said participation. Earlier studies mainly examined personal and social factors which influence the participation rate, overlooking the practical methods by which senior citizens can overcome barriers to participating in club activities. Our study aims to clarify the features of a club activity as a resource by analyzing the activity’s interactions. Our study is based on data extracted from videotaped recordings of a senior calligraphy club in Kanto, Japan. In September 2018, one lecturer and 11 participants were videotaped for 3 hours, and the video underwent conversation analysis, which elucidates how people organize activities under specific circumstances. We analyzed how a female newcomer to the activity initiated face-to-face interaction, which is considered the first step of social participation. She talked to other participants who were familiar with the exercise several times by inquiring how to read kanjis on teaching materials. These findings suggest that visualization of skill relative to the other creates an environment for initiating face-to-face interaction. In this case, the newcomer utilized the difference in skill denoted by teaching materials and was given the rational reason to talk to the others already engaging in the activity. Therefore, designing teaching materials that assign the learning level of each participant may be effective in promoting social participation in senior study clubs.

Mobile-Based Media as the Solution in Teaching and Learning Listening Skill

Learning listening skill is more challenging for English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Based on an investigation at several high schools in Padang, the existence of listening skill in English subject is almost neglected in teaching and learning process because of many reasons such as the limited media and less opportunity to practice listening. Teachers are difficult to prepare appropriate media to teach listening while students are difficult to find out the appropriate listening materials to practice. Innovation in using media is needed in this era because people use technology such as the computer, smartphone, internet in life. This paper uses library research method that aims to describe such as solution by utilizing mobile phone in teaching and learning listening skill considering almost all students already had their own Smartphone. Based on the study, there are several benefits in using technology especially mobile-based learning in teaching and learning process; increase teachers creativity in designing teaching materials and media, increases students’ motivation in learning, mobility, accessibility, and excellent potential for providing students with the learning materials whenever and wherever. In summary, using mobile-based learning can be a solution to solve several problems in teaching and learning listening.

Development of “Image Processing” Practical Learning Model On Diploma Program Informatics Engineering Department

This research was conducted by students of Informatics Engineering diploma program at the Teachers’ Training College in Central Java. This study uses a research model for the development of a 4D model learning system. Before the research was carried out the initial needs analysis on the Practical Image Processing learning that took place so far in the Informatics Engineering diploma program. This research aims to find out the suitability of the practice learning model needed by the industrial world. The results of the initial needs analysis show that the practical learning model is needed by students in improving the ability and skills of the Image Processing field. The stages in developing practical learning use 4D as follows: 1) defining; 2) design; 3) development; 4) dissemination. The four stages include: a) lecturer and student observation; b) designing teaching materials; c) design of practicum modules; d) designing practicum instructions; e) designing practicum tools; f) validation of teaching materials experts, practice modules, media practice tools; g) limited trial.In this study is still in the development stage, for the dissemination phase in further research. Textbook design based on multiple intelligences with the theme of earth protector

This study aims to describe the design of teaching materials of earth and space science subject on theme of Earth protector-based on multiple intelligence for high school students. The whole process consist of three steps, namely Define, Design and Develop. Our work will focus on design stage that consists of four tiers: constructing criterion-referenced, media selection, format selection and initial design. Our teaching material product is accommodating two integrated models, which are webbed and threated model. The webbed model is built based on twenty-eight Basic Competencies in the 2013 curriculum with theme on Earth Protector. Meanwhile, threated model underlies the meta-cognitive arrangement of book with that accommodate multiple intelligences. This teaching material integrates five subjects, namely Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Islamic Education and Bahasa.

Desain Bahan Ajar Berbasis Kemampuan Koneksi Matematis Siswa SMP Pada Kelas VII

The background of this research is the learning obstacle on the material of the VII grade MTs algebraic operating material. This study aims to describe how the design of didactic teaching materials based on the mathematical connection ability of junior high school students in class VII. Subjects in this study were students of MTs PUI Majalengka, 28 students of class VII A to identify learning obstacles and 10 students of class VII A were used as samples for the implementation of teaching materials. The research carried out was a didactic design research consisting of three stages, namely: (1) didactic situation analysis prior to learning in the form of a Didactic Design Hypothesis including ADP, (2) methadactic analysis, and (3) retrosfective analysis. How to collect data by tests, validation of teaching materials, and student questionnaire responses. The results showed that there were three types of obstacle learning. The validation results obtained can be concluded that teaching materials based on students' mathematical connection abilities can be used in learning algebraic form operations. The implementation of this didactic design is in accordance with predictions so that the design of this teaching material can be used as an alternative design of learning algebraic operations learning.

Improvement of student’s mathematical communication ability using M-APOS approach

Calculus course is a much needed material in the development of science and technology. Calculus is the important for learning the next many topic. Students have difficulties in understanding the calculus.The lecturers often explain subject matter by giving examples of problems and exercises,so the concepts are less meaningful. Students only learn to solve problems mechanically. Considering those problems, one way that can be used to overcome the problem is to design a learning tools. The designed teaching materials should be able to summarize the existing concepts so that students are easily understood the concept. Lecturer can use M-APOS modification approach M-APOS (Modification-action - process - object – schema). The purpose of this study was to produce M-APOS based calculus lecturing tool that valid, practical and effective to improve students’mathematical communication ability. This research is a development research. The result of this research show that the learning tools of calculus based on M-APOS aprroach are valid both in terms of content and construct. The developed M-APOS based calculus learning tools have met the practical criteria both from the aspect of implementation, ease and required time. Yet, the developed M-APOS based calculus learning tools have not been effective in improving students’mathematical communication ability.

Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Dengan Menggunakan Pendekatan Saintifik Untuk Meningkatkan Kreatifitas Siswa Di Kelas X Sekolah Menengah Atas

his study aims to produce a teaching material based on the scientific approach that is valid, practical, and effective and can increase creativity in biology learning in high school class X. The method used in this development is the 4-D Model (Four D Model) development model, which consists of four stages are: define, design, develop, and spread (disseminate). Development research is a research method for developing products and improving products. The defining stage is carried out by the determination of learning conditions by analyzing competency standards and boundaries of the subject matter that will be taught by the teacher based on the 2013 curriculum content standards. The planning stage for the preparation of instruments needed in this study and the design of prototype teaching materials. Development stage 1) expert appraisal followed by revision, and 2) development trials limited to students (developmental testing). Stage of dissemination (disseminate) by publishing teaching material that has been developed in the form of a journal. The ability of students has increased, this can be seen from the percentage of classical completeness of students in the first trial of 36%, and the percentage of classical completeness of students in the second trial was 83%. In other words an increase in the biological representation of students in the ecosystem material from the first trial to the second trial increased. Teaching materials design based on project learning to improve the students’ mathematical understanding

Project-based learning requires students to explore and combine their knowledge and skills to solve problems in groups for a certain time. Through the development of project-based teaching materials, students learn to apply theory in an activity that produces experience, so that learning is expected to be more meaningful and improve the students’ mathematical understanding. This study aimed to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching materials based on project learning to improve the students’ mathematical understanding, especially on the applied statistics course. The stages of this study consisted of design and development, product validation by 3 experts, limited testing of 10 students, and field testing of 97 students. The results show that the teaching material has fulfilled the valid, practical, and effective aspects used in learning because it increases the ability of students’ mathematical understanding by 15.8%.

The Development of E-Learning Teaching Material Based on Edmodo on Basic Competencies of National Integration at Class X of Senior High School

This research aims to determine (1) the design of E-learning teaching materials, (2) steps for using Edmodo-based learning materials (3) student learning behaviour in learning using Edmodo-based E-learning. The development model used is a procedural model adapted from the instructional design development model according to Dick & Carey while the development research model used is in accordance with Borg & Gall. The instrument used was in the form of a questionnaire instrument, interview guidelines and observation guidelines (observations). The data analysis used in this study is qualitative descriptive statistics. Noting the validation of experts and the results of trials in the field, it can be concluded that: (1) Edmodo-based E-learning teaching materials on Basic Competence (KD) of National Integration are appropriate to use for Class X (Grade 10<sup>th</sup>) SMA PPKn subjects; (2) Clarity of instructions for using E-learning teaching materials is considered good; (3) Changes in student learning behaviour are students who look very enthusiastic about learning by using E-learning teaching materials; (4) Edmodo-based E-learning materials are considered effective in achieving the learning objectives of the PPKn; (5) Edmodo-based E-learning teaching materials have a high time and place efficiency with regard to the limitations of available teaching materials; (6) Edmodo-based E-learning teaching material is a strategy for delivering messages that have high competitiveness. For research on the development of E-learning teaching materials based on Edmodo that will come to be more refined and better in order to support the smooth learning process.

Bahan Ajar Kajian Puisi Berbasis Kearifan Lokal (Piil Pesenggiri) Dengan Dukungan Media Interaktif Prezi Presentation

The legal basis for the application of learning based on local wisdom in higher education in Indonesia is contained in Permenristekdikti Number 44 of 2015concerning the National Standards of Higher Education (SNPT). This is the basis of this research article. This study is entitled "Teaching Material Based on Local Wisdom (Piil Pesenggiri) with the Support of Interactive Learning Media Based on Prezi Presentation". The research objective is to design teaching materials based on local wisdom (Piil Pesenggiri) with the support of interactive learning media based on Prezi Presentation. Based on the results of the study it can beconcluded that: 1) by internalizing the values contained in the Pesenggiri Piil in Poetry Study teaching materials, students are able to get positive values on poetry; 2) by involving local wisdom in teaching materials, students are able to absorb the norms and values contained in the Pesenggiri Piil; 3) entering theIndustrial Revolution 4.0 era, teaching materials supported by interactive learning media based on Prezi Presentation are very relevant and more interesting.

Research on the Development of Three Dimensional Teaching Materials under the Background of “Internet +”

The continuous development of educational technology and the continuous enrichment of network digital resources provide a good environment and opportunity for the development of three-dimensional teaching materials in the era of "Internet +". After three dimensional development, teaching materials are not only simple carriers of teaching content, but also carry many links in teaching, such as teaching design, teaching methods, assessment and evaluation. The article makes a comparative analysis of traditional teaching materials, multimedia teaching materials and three-dimensional teaching materials. Focusing on the new requirements of the "Internet +" era in the development of educational technology and digital resources for the development of three-dimensional teaching materials, this paper puts forward three dimensional teaching material development and design ideas, and constructs a three-dimensional teaching material content framework.

How to Design Teaching Materials to Improve the Ability of Mathematical Reflective Thinking of Senior High School Students in Indonesia?

This research is a research and development which produces teaching materials. The research method consists of stages, namely: an introduction (literature study, observation, and interviews), product development of teaching materials, test by a team of experts, and restricted trial to the eleventh-grade students of senior high school in Cimahi, West Java, Indonesia. It was concluded that the teaching materials through scientific approach with what if not strategy load some activities including observing, trying, reasoning, asking, and concluding. The activities of asking using what if not strategy involve changing the data, adding the data, changing the data with the same question, and changing the question to the same data. In the teaching materials, it is presented some contextual problems in accordance with the experience of students. The design of teaching materials consists of three parts, namely: the beginning involves cover, preface, and table of contents; the content section: containing the title of the chapter dealing with the enumeration rules as a representation of the contents of the chapter; and closing: as a reflection and evaluation of the material presented on teaching materials for the next revision. Teaching materials can enhance the ability of reflective thinking of the students with medium criteria.

PERAN PENDIDIK DALAM MENGHADAPI KERAGAMAN GAYA BELAJAR MURID

Pemahaman tentang gaya belajar murid sangatlah penting bagi guru, pendidik atau dosen. Hal ini bertujuan membangun pembelajaran yang efektif dan kreatif dalam meresponi keunikan gaya belajar peserta didik. Selain itu, disain bahan ajar dan pemakaian metode mengajar haruslah relevan dengan kebutuhan peserta didik. Namun realitanya pemahaman ter­sebut masih belum maksimal. Oleh karena itu diperlukan kompetensi pendidik dalam menyiapkan hal tersebut sehingga proses pembelajaran di kelas menjadi bermakna, menginspirasi, mence­rahkan, kreatif, transformatif dan produktif. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah metode kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa bila pendidik kurang pema­haman tentang gaya belajar anak dan gaya belajar dirinya dapat mengakibatkan pembelajaran tidak efektif dan kreatif. Sedangkan pendidik yang memahami gaya belajar yang berbeda dapat menciptakan proses pembelajaran yang efektif, kreatif dan produktif.

Scientific Literacy-Based Chemical Teaching Materials Design of Chemical Solution Materials on Sea Pollution Context

Abstract: The science teaching materials needed today are teaching materials that can make students literate in science. One way is to develop teaching materials based on scientific literacy. To produce good teaching materials, certain designs are needed to achieve learning goals and can improve students' scientific literacy. Students who have studied chemistry should be able to analyze natural phenomena in scientific chemistry, one of which is marine pollution. This research was conducted to design high school chemistry teaching materials in connecting the context of sea pollution with chemical solution material. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative which refers to the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER). The instruments used were standard competencevalidation sheets, text analysis sheets, and teaching material validation sheets. The results showed: a) The results of the indicator standard competencevalidation and learning objectives cognitive and attitude aspects, the results of text analysis and the results of the validation of teaching materials, all obtained valid categories, with the average value of each CVI was 0.91; 0.93; 0.94; and 0.95, b) The design of teaching materials include the contact stage, the curriculum stage, the elaboration stage, the decision-making stage, and the Nexus stage. The scope of autonomy when teaching computational thinking in primary school

Abstract During the 21st century, there has been an increased interest in the field of computational thinking as a consequence of the ever faster technical development. However, educating future generations in programming and computational thinking is not trivial. Many different platforms and teaching approaches can be used for this purpose. Inspired by the UK initiative with BBC micro:bit, this paper strives to identify what may be important to consider when designing teaching materials with the BBC micro:bit for training Swedish primary school learners’ computational thinking skills relating to mathematical and technical school subjects. This has been investigated in an iterative process, by conducting 21 workshops with the goal to support primary school teachers in developing BBC micro:bit teaching materials. The contribution of this paper is the Scope of autonomy model, which is based on the relation between learning potential, the risk of feeling overwhelmed, and the amount of choices provided in exercises. The model aim to support teachers in developing and appropriating material for teaching programming and computational thinking with individual progression in accordance with the new curriculum.
