Developing critical thinking among children and bibliotherapy in the library

Purpose. The paper aims to point out the possibilities of developing critical thinking in children by conducting bibliotherapy workshops in the library based on the template of a traditional children's story. The work is based on a course that the authors run at the Croatian Training Centre for Continuing Education of Librarians to encourage critical thinking in children, develop reading habits and create a critical reader. It is based on workshops that were an integral part of the international project TRACE. Approach/methodology. The paper will present the workshops the authors conducted as part of the Erasmus+ project Traditional children's stories for a common future – TRACE. Workshops are shared with librarians through the Croatian Training Centre for Continuing Education of Librarians. We encourage children to think and create their own opinions using different methods, most of which are based on the modernized Socratic method. Results. Children often do not get to express their opinions by questioning their attitudes. The conducted workshops showed one of how it is possible to use stories with different ethical themes to stimulate critical thinking in children and teach them how to be active participants in their society. Practical use. Considering the possibility of using /combining several methods and conducting workshops in "continuations", it is possible to apply them both in school libraries and children's departments of public libraries. Originality and value. The paper points to the importance of developing critical thinking in children and highlights the value of traditional stories that influence children's awareness of their personality and shaping of their attitudes, contributing to the ability to solve life's problems and the development of a value system and the improvement of interpersonal relationships.

The Main Research Directions in the Study of Regional Book Culture: on the Example of the Republic of Buryatia

In recent years, the number of research on regional book culture has increased. This trend can be traced in Buryatia, where, on the contrary to the consistency of surveys carried on during the Soviet period, they are scattered today. The lack of the holistic idea of the main directions to study Buryatia book culture in different historical periods dictates the need to summarize information on the research carried out, to determine the degree of development of the scientific problem. The purpose of the article is to analyze published sources reflecting various aspects of the development of Buryatia book culture. As a result, a historiographic analysis of scientific works devoted to the history and modern state of book publishing, book distribution, printing industry, republican periodicals was carried out, the research activities of the Department of Library and Information Resources of VSGIK in this direction were described. Summing up the results of many years of work on the study of the topic made it possible to identify gaps and determine the prospects for its further development.

Using WhatsApp as a medium of postgraduate instruction in a private university in Nigeria: fall-outs of the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a global lockdown and the cessation of all academic activities on-site. Higher education in Nigeria was not exempt, as a paradigm shift was required for university officials to explore non-conventional teaching methods to prevent students from wasting time and to keep them intellectually engaged. During the pandemic, our research examines how a private institution in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, utilised the social networking platform WhatsApp for Ph.D. student seminars. The study obtained data from ten doctoral students in the Department of Library and Information Science at Adeleke University via online interviews. The difficulties faced by the students and the benefits of utilising ICT were highlighted. Due to the constant insecurity and poor road network in Nig eria, as well as the risk of long-distance travel, especially for postgraduate students who are not always resident on campus, we recommend the continued use of E-learning platforms in Higher Education Institutions as a solution to reducing transportation costs.

Environmental sustainability: Awareness and practices among library professionals in University of Calicut

Although environmental sustainability is not a novel concept, society does not give much attention to protecting the environment. Protecting our environment for future generations is everyone's responsibility. Academic institutions should include green movement activities. In this investigation, environmental sustainability related awareness, attitudes, and practices of the Calicut University library professionals were examined. The study was conducted among the library professionals working at University of Calicut central library, 35 department libraries, and 20 study centers. Data were gathered via questionnaires. A total of 83 questionnaires were distributed but only 70 were returned. The majority of library professionals are not very knowledgeable about environmentally friendly procedures. However, they have a positive attitude toward environmental sustainability in libraries. The degree to which librarians are aware of environmental issues and the library's current green activities/practices are positively correlated.

Patent search tools as a strategic resource for management decision

Introduction: The article examines the modern competencies of a specialist in the field of library and IT.Purpose setting. Competence-related issues in vocational education today are associated with the highly restricted demands of the environment for future specialist. Besides, soft skills challenge the hard ones in contemporary professionalism.Methodology and methods of the study. The role of competencies related to analysis and processing of information are in focus.Results. The immensely increasing amounts of research result in a coherent need in a well-organized information operation and analysis. Particular attention should be paid to patent research, since it directly answers the questions whether it is worth developing, or whether this topic is already taken up by competitors.Conclusions. The authors proposed the creation of cooperation between the information and analytical departments of libraries with specialized professionals, for example, scientists, patent experts, marketologists, etc., in order to optimize decision-making process for the relevant branches of science and business. This approach will upgrade the work of specialists and provide an opportunity to conduct a deeper analysis using modern tools.

Practical Use of ICT course in Libraries: Perspectives of MLISc graduates in Nepal

Although the Central Department of Library and Information Science (CDLIS) was founded in TU 27 years ago, the Masters in Library and Information Science (MLISc) program is less popular among recent graduates. The MLISc program's reputation and significance are dependent on how successfully it has adapted to emerging information and communication technology (ICT). It is an early attempt to assess the MLISc ICT course material, primarily focusing on how applicable it is to real-world professional situations.Working librarians from Nepal participated in a focus group discussion to assess how well the MLISc ICT course applied to their line of work. Participants have suggested that the basic and advanced ICT course topics in the MLISc curriculum should be distinguished clearly. Library automation, digital library software, and other advanced ICT courses are available. However, the library profession places a high value on graduates with a complete understanding of information system architecture, library automation, and digitization services.

«Book Culture in the Digital Era»: the Results of the All-Russian (with International Participation) Scientific and Practical Conference. The Republic of Buryatia, November 24-25, 2022

The results of the All-Russian (with international participation) scientific and practical conference “Book Culture in the Digital Age”, organized by the Department of Library and Information Resources of the East Siberian State Institute of Culture within the framework of the implementation of the comprehensive scientific topic, are summarized. The reports presented at the plenary and sections sessions, panel discussion are characterized, and the recommendations formulated by the participants of the event are summarized.

Need for Research Colaboratuion among Librarians of Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure and Federal Polytechnic Daura

The study investigated need for research collaboration among librarians of Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure and Federal Polytechnic Daura. The goal of research collaboration among the librarians is to come together in conducting research and discover new ideas as a group in order to improve research, knowledge-sharing, effective support, and services among the teeming patron community. Survey research design was used for the study and the target population of the study is the librarians of the two polytechnics who are working in the services library and the department of library and information science. The total number of population is 22 and the entire population of the study was sampled because the number can management to be use. The instruments used for the data collection was questionnaire which consist of three sections. Section A. was sought to obtained information about the demographic data of the respondents. Section B. contain questions related to the variables of the study and section c. covered question related to the challenges associated with the partnership and research collaboration. A descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data such as simple percentage, frequency count and mean score with use of table. The study found that there are shortages of librarians in the two federal polytechnic under study, there is dire need for the research collaboration between the two polytechnics but at present, the collaboration is very low. The followings are some of the recommendation of the studyThe management of the two polytechnics under study should educate librarians on the need for research collaboration.. Development of academic libraries in Smolensk region in the early 20-th century (the case study of Smolensk first university

The author describes in detail the first years of the main scientific library in Smolensk Guberniya in the early 20-th century, namely Smolensk State University Library. The author was motivated by the absence of the complete picture of academic librarianship in the region; the issue is also insufficiently covered in the literature. The author applies the methods of comparative analysis and synthesis. The research is based on published and unpublished materials: documents in the State Archive of Smolensk Region; Rare Collection of Smolensk University Library; and scholarly papers. The author writes about the librarians who worked for the Library in 1918–1922, and its first director, privat-dozent I. E. Egorov. She also analyzes the history of the book collection development during the campaign of 1918–1921 in Smolensk Guberniya when the landed property and many manorial libraries were nationalized. She describes nationalized private collections in the Rare Collection of Smolensk University Library, and individual books from academic, public, scientific, estate, commercial, departmental, military and confessional libraries of prerevolutionary Smolensk. The role of Smolensk University Library as the richest book depository of the region and the value of its rare collections are emphasized. The vectors of the academic library activities of the above are explored. The research findings will contribute to the discipline “Library history” studied in the library higher schools and will be useful for modern academic libraries.

تطبيق منهجية الستة سيجما في أقسام المكتبات وعلم المعلومات في جامعات المملكة العربية السعودية: دراسة تحليلية

ملخص هدفت الدراسة إلى تحديد مدى تطبيق مبادئ منهجية الستة سيجما في أقسام المكتبات وعلم المعلومات من وجهة نظر أعضاء هيئة التدريس، ومعرفة أهم متطلبات تطبيق الستة سيجما، كذلك التعرف المعوقات في حالة تطبيق الستة سيجما، قد تم استخدام المنهج المسحي الوصفي، واعتماد أداة القياس الرئيسة الاستبانة، مع اختيار عينة الدراسة المكونة من 165 عضو هيئة تدريس بأقسام المكتبات وعلم المعلومات في جامعات المملكة العربية السعودية. وقد توصلت الدراسة إلى أن هناك موافقة بدرجة كبيرة من قبل أعضاء هيئة التدريس على محور "تطبيق مبادئ منهجية الستة سيجما في أقسام المكتبات" بنسبة 69.8% من عينة الدراسة وهناك موافقة بدرجة كبيرة على محور "متطلبات تطبيق الستة سيجما" حسب الوزن النسبي 70.8%، وهناك موافقة بدرجة كبيرة على محور "معوقات تطبيق الستة سيجما في أقسام المكتبات والمعلومات" حسب الوزن النسبي 68.6%، وأوصت الدراسة التأكيد على أهمية تطبيق منهجية الستة سيجما بأقسام المكتبات وعلم المعلومات، والتأكيد على الاعتماد على الأدوات الإحصائية والحقائق والبيانات الدقيقة التي تُسهم في تحليل منظم للمشاكل، والعمل على التطوير المهني لجميع الهيئة التعليمية لتحسين جودة الأداء.

ПЕДАГОГИЧЕСКИЕ ТЕХНОЛОГИИ В ПРЕОДОЛЕНИИ КЛИПОВОГО МЫШЛЕНИЯ СТУДЕНТОВ

The author’s experience of teaching students conceptual, critical thinking, building cause-and-effect relationships of the ethical and communicative phe-nomena under study, respect for the personality of the Other, need for self-development, etc. at the department of library and information resources of the FSBEI HE «East Siberian state institute of culture» is described. The attention is focused on the pros and cons of the students’ clip thinking.

MATERNAL MORTALITY IN INDIA: PREVENTION AND ITSSTRATEGIES

Introduction: Maternal health is an important aspect of any countrys development in terms of equity and poverty reduction. The health of women before and during pregnancy, during childbirth, and after childbirth is referred to as Maternal Health. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is an important indicator of the quality of the countrys health-care system. India has made remarkable progress in reducing maternal mortality over the last two decades. Methods: Relevant articles were searched using both electronically and print sources. Electronically from search engines such as PubMed and Google Scholar, as well as the WHO, CDC, and MoHFW websites. Print sources for the database included newspapers, the central library, and the departmental library of the Community Medicine, which included a variety of journals and standard textbooks. The following keywords were used in the literature search: maternal health, maternal death, maternal mortality and vaccination for pregnant women. Articles that did not contain these keywords were excluded from consideration. The search was not limited by publication year, and original articles, review articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses were all considered. Recommendation:Early detection and timely management of High-Risk Pregnancy (HRP) are critical factors in reducing maternal mortality.

Zachowania informacyjne czeskich i słowackich studentów w czasie pandemii COVID-19 z naciskiem na Hoaxes i Misinformation

The Institute of Czech Language and Library Science of the Faculty of Philosophy and Science of the Silesian University in Opava (Czechia), in cooperation with the Department of Library and Information Science of the Faculty of Philosophy of Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), conducted comparative research on information behavior of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns. The Czech data collection was made possible within the framework of an internal student grant competition at Silesian University (SGS/2/2021 and SGS/2/2022). In the first phase, data was gathered through online question-naires with open-ended questions emphasizing self-reflective thinking of the respondents. In the second phase, the data was collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with selected participants from the first phase. The data collection in Slovakia was supported by the Agency for Research and Development Support under contract APVV-19-0074 and was also part of the project VEGA 1/0360/21 - Social Representations of Ethical Challenges of the Digital Information Revolution. With a particular focus on the area of hoaxes and misinfor-mation, a comparison of the results showed that the experiences of students from different countries are very similar despite the adjusted method, time gap, and different sample size of the respondents.

Digital services at the affiliate libraries of the Russian Academy of Sciences to provide information support of science (the case study of Pushchino Central Library)

The national strategy for Russian libraries up to the year 2030 was approved by the RF Government in 2021. The development vectors extend to every library in the country, including scientific and academic ones. The author reviews the library system of the Russian Academy of Sciences and evaluates the possibility to implement digital technologies. For this purpose, she analyzes the existing computerized information library systems in centralized library networks ( CLN). T he R AS l ibrary s ystem h as t he p otential t o i mprove i nformation support of research. The structure of the RAS library network replicates the regional and discipline-oriented organizational RAS structure. Based on the experience of Pushchino Central Library – department of the RAS Library for Natural Sciences, the author concludes that despite incongruous software, hardware and technology, the scientific libraries have the potential to improve library services to support research. Each library must support services demanded by its users and corresponding to their specific research goals

THE FUTUE OF LIBRARIES IN THE MENA REGION TREND, CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES

Libraries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) are affected by the repercussions of globalization, especially the "phenomenon of accelerating changes", which has become one of the most prominent features of the twenty-first century. To avoid confusion and loss of control, librarians must face the questions of the future. Depending on the analysis of specialized intellectual production, we aim to define a set of prospective questions: • What are the future roles of librarians and professional associations? • What are the amendments that should be made to the librarian profession to handle new trends? • What is the future of employment in the library sector? • What will the “over smart libraries” look like? • How will the libraries be affected by the equation of the dilemma of a printed book versus an electronic and a “TikTok’s” book? The study also aims to identify the most dominant trends that library and information experts expect and the serious problems that should be prepared for, based on the classification of the Center for the Future of Libraries of the American Library Association (ALA). These challenges are mainly about: • The impact of anticipated crises (epidemics, wars, etc.) on the financial capabilities related to employment and the risk of closing many libraries. • The growing phenomenon of the information explosion and its effects on the mechanisms for retrieving data and documents in libraries • The growing phenomenon of smart cities and the consequent emergence of smart and postsmart libraries. The growing phenomenon of artificial intelligence and the consequent destabilization of the library science identity as a human science discipline (integrating library departments in faculties of computer engineering). Moreover, we are reviewing opportunities that libraries can size to prove their position in the social and economic modern systems: • Libraries and services marketing to attract communities towards the practicing of information awareness as a strategic need required by knowledge economies. • Conducting educational curricula towards adopting libraries as a tool for building selflearning skills. • The use of positive psychology to improve life at workplaces of a library staff. The add-value of the current study is about the scarcity of similar studies related to the MENA region, especially those related to public libraries

Axiological aspects of transforming library profession in the aspect of professional education

Technological evolution of the civilization have been increasingly define the integrated global landscape and contribute to political, economic, social and ecological changes. Innovative high-speed communication systems and wide access to information consolidate the states, economies and businesses in the more sophisticated way one can envision. This global interdependence bears the risks of increasing social and economic inequity; in particular, due to instability and social unsustainability of the weaker economies. The authors discuss the problems of the library profession digitalization affecting the transformation of library education as the condition for preserving and developing human resources in librarianship. They insist that training librarians should comply with the requirements to modern libraries. They specify the key professional competences for library specialists of a new breed, and suggest prospective vectors of training at library departments.

Abstract:The study reviewed the publication growth and identified key players and traced the evolution of research themes on “RSV Infection in Children”. Using Scopus database, a keyword search was undertaken, which yielded 917 research records during 2002 to 2021. The retrieved research data was analyzed using a bibliometric analysis techniques and MS-Excel software. The co-authorship network visualization of authors, organizations and countries and cooccurrence network visualization of all keywords are visualized using VOSviewer software. The 917 papers were written by 4902 authors employed at 710 organizations based in 104 countries/territories and were published in 273 journals in the field. The top journals ranked by publication productivity were Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, Journal of Infectious Diseases and PLOS One and by citation impact per paper were American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Therapy and Journal of Pediatrics. Authors from countries contributed the most publications were USA, U.K. and China, and those contributing the most impactful publications were France, Japan and Spain. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, USA, University Medical Center Utrecht, Netherlands, and MedImmune LLC Inc. USA are the three organizations with the most productive publications and Kenya Medical Research Institute, South African Medical Research Council, South Africa and University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa are the organizations with most impactful organizations. Authors contributing the most were O. Ramilo (USA), E.A.F. Simoes (USA) and R.A. Karron (USA) and the most impactful papers were D.J. Nokes (U.K.), K.M. Edwards (USA) and C.B. Hall (USA). Based on collaboration network maps, there were significant collaborations based on common interests. According to the keyword co-occurrence diagram, the most frequent keywords are “Respiratory Synctial Virus”, “Respiratory Syncytial Pneumovirus”, “Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus”, “Hospitalization”, “Respiratory Tract Infection” and “Brochiolitis”. Analysis of 44 significant keywords showed that the research was distributed into 4 clusters, which indicates the most significant areas of current research. With the acceleration of the child diseases, the number of articles on “RSV in Children” is increasing rapidly. Bibliometric analysis of global research in this area for the last 20 years can provide useful information and meaningful reference to funding agencies and researchers, enabling them to explore current research status and identify the future areas and hotspots. The last Mohican of the Soviet library science. (On the occasion of the 90-th Anniversary of Professor A. A. Khalafov)

The founder of library science in Azerbaijan “The founder of library science in Azerbaijan”, Abuzar Aly oglu Khalafov was born on December 25, 1931, in the village of Jil, located on the territory of Goych in Western Azerbaijan. In 1938–1945 he studied at a seven-year general education school, in 1945–1946 he worked on the collective farm named after Ali Bairamov. From 1950–1955 he studied at the library department of the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan State University. Over the years, he worked as a teacher, senior lecturer, associate professor at the Library Faculty. In 1961 he defended his candidate’s thesis on the topic “From the history of librarianship in Azerbaijan” (1920–1932)”, and in 1975 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “From the history of librarianship in Azerbaijan” (1933–1958). In 1978 he became a professor. These works, being significant and relevant, reflected the dynamics of the development of librarianship in Azerbaijan. He scientifically substantiated the goals and objectives of library activities, and carefully studied its pressing problems, and proposed his own ways to solve them. Abuzar Khalafov was the first to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences in library science. The authors emphasize the role of the prominent scientist in the scientific, pedagogical and cultural life of Azerbaijan by providing numerous examples. Abuzar Khalafov devoted seventy years of his s life to the librarianship of his country.

Journal Visibility and Indexing of Faculty Journals in Delta State University, Abraka Nigeria

This study investigated journal visibility and indexing of faculty journals in Delta State University Abraka. The objective of the study is to determine the influence of visibility on indexing of faculty journals in Delta State University Abraka. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a correlational research design. The population of the study is 12 editors-in-chief of the various faculty journals in Delta State University, Abraka. Since the population is small and manageable, the researcher selected the entire population. The instrument that was used for this research study was a questionnaire and checklist. The face and content validities of the questionnaire were determined by experts in the Department of Library and Information Science in Delta State University, Abraka for thorough scrutiny and checking of the instrument to make sure that the questionnaires were relevant to the study. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using the Split-half reliability method, which gives a measure of internal consistency. Coefficient of determination was used to answer the research questions. The Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient was used to test the hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there is no significant relationship between visibility and indexing of faculty journals in Delta State University Abraka. In view of the findings, it recommended amongst others, that the journals’ editorial board should focus on improving the academic quality of the research published in the journals.

УКРАЇНСЬКІ ПАРЕМІЇ В ЕТНОГРАФІЧНОМУ ДОРОБКУ СТЕПАНА НОСА

The article, based on the study of the updated works of S. D. Nos and archival documents, analyzes the scientific work of the scientist in the field of ethnography and folkloristics on the example of the study and use in his works of Ukrainian folk proverbs, which are systematized according to genre: proverbs and sayings, beliefs and omens, riddles, fairy tales. It is noted that proverbs and sayings, which the scientist used when preparing his scientific works, were the most used in the work of the ethnographer. It is emphasized that numerous proverbs and sayings are used in works on traditional calendar and family rites, ethnology, ethnomedicine, national cuisine, in particular in his works such as «About diseases and how to prevent them», «To the ploughman», «In every nation own nature» etc. It has been established that the largest number of proverbs, sayings, parables, superstitions and fairy tales are available in the handwritten researches of S. D. Nos, which are stored in archival institutions and library departments, as well as on the pages of the journal «Osnova» and «Chernihiv provincial gazettes». Prose and poetic paremies, which reflect the everyday life and traditions of the Ukrainian people, song creativity, ritual art, which testify to the ethnographer’s deep knowledge of Ukrainian society, its history and culture, are considered.
