The Muqtadhal Haal Da’wah of K.H. Dalhar and Its Relevance in Modern Society

This study seeks to explore the format of the Muqtadhal Haal da’wah of Kiai Dalhar and its implementation and relevance for modern society. The research uses a historical and socio-anthropological approach, referring to Clifford Geertz’s “thick description” theory and Habermas’ “communication” theory. The research was conducted using the historical method. The results show that the Muqtadhal Haal da’wah is a da’wah that is carried out through communication actions that are built by placing the dai (Islamic preacher) and da’wah targets in an equal position. A dai does not deliver the da’wah material orally before the da’wah targets ask. A dai in delivering his da’wah will try to adapt the materials, methods and media to the psychological, sociological, anthropological and intellectual capacities of the da’wah targets. Da’wah is not carried out in a harsh, rigid and revolutionary way, on the contrary, it is carried out in a polite, gentle, touching manner, and proceeds according to the circumstances of the da’wah targets. The implementation of da’wah applies transcendental, contextual, sentimental and harmonization strategies. The dialectic of democratic communication in the application of the Muqtadhal Haal Kiai Dalhar’s da’wah is very effective in the development of Islam in Central Java, so that the da’wah model can be used as an alternative to da’wah in modern society today.

Museums in the age of platform giants: Disconnected policies and practices

This article explores how the British Museum and the National Museum of Australia tailor their digital cultural politics, and how this corresponds to their management of online collections and presence on social media. The article applies textual analysis to examine how the two museums discursively frame their policies; interface analysis to demonstrate how they organise their online collections; and platform analysis to scrutinise their communication on Instagram. Findings indicate that the museums’ policies align with writings on democratic, participative, and user-generated digital museum communication. In practice, however, their design of digital collections and use of Instagram does not reflect their digital cultural politics as policy. There is therefore a disconnect between their policies and practices. This disconnect does not indicate that their digital collections and presence on social media are poorly designed and executed, but rather that the democratic, engaging, user-driven and participatory discourses of new museology are overstated.

Technological developments have spread among the community, including children. Currently, not a few children have and are good at operating gadgets. Gadgets can have a positive and negative impact on children. Because it is necessary for parents to provide direction to children so as not to be affected by the negative impact of gadgets by using effective communication patterns. Communication patterns are needed to analyze how the picture of communication that occurs between parents and children as active gadget users. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative accompanied by in-depth interviews (in-depth interviews) in collecting the data needed for research. The results of this study were obtained through analysis of the recap of the results of indepth interviews with each informant. It is shown that indeed every parent has their own way of educating their children, especially in playing gadgets. Obtained from 5 families (Mother and Child), 1 family that applies permissive communication patterns, 2 families that apply democratic communication patterns and 2 families that apply authoritarian communication patterns.

What do Teachers do to Show They Care? Learning From the Voices of Early Adolescents

This mixed methods study examined how middle school students (ages 11–13) in middle-class neighborhoods in Western Canada characterized a caring teacher. Specifically, qualitative content analysis was conducted on 199 sixth and seventh grade students’ written responses to the question “What are three things that teachers do to show they care?” Guided by recent work in the area of mindfulness in teaching, we identified 19 themes: one was categorized as General Teaching (e.g., “They teach”), and 18 that were grouped into one of three thematic categories associated with mindful teaching: Calm (e.g., calm/not reactive), Clear (e.g., democratic communication), and Kind (e.g., empathy). In their descriptions of caring teachers, almost all students (97.5%) used Kind themes, while many used Clear themes (41%); with fewer students using Calm (13.6%) or General Teaching (10.6%) themes. Chi square analyses revealed that girls were more likely to mention Clear themes compared to boys, while boys were more likely to use the specific themes of nurturance and helpfulness. Additional demographic differences were also explored. This research adds to the growing body of studies aimed at elucidating the role of mindful teaching in caring student-teacher relationships, particularly from the perspectives of early adolescents.

The Digital Virus Against Democracy

AbstractThe notion of digital virus covers, in our view, two points: computer viruses that infect our computers and technological solutionism, the unreasonable passion that consists in considering that the solution to all social problems lies in the digital world. Yet the digital world is as vulnerable as the biological world. Moreover, it is dangerous because it pushes us into a digital bondage that undermines democracy. The solution to the crisis is not less democracy, but more democracy. More precisely, we will argue that digital devices do not strengthen democratic communication, they promote a digital connection that hinders deliberation and threatens the very idea of democracy

Ketika Demokrasi Membutuhkan Inklusi

Democracy is a political tool that aims to reach agreement and produce fair decisions for everyone. However, it seems that not all democratic processes and decision-making involve individuals or groups who are socially in a weak, powerless, and marginalized position. These groups, such as women, the elderly, minority groups, and the poor, find themselves in a disadvantageous situation, while political decisions made through a democratic process also impact and affect them directly. Based on this thought, Iris Marion Young, a modern feminist political thinker, seeks to dismantle the various democratic symptoms that obstruct the achievement of justice for all. One of the main problems Young identified is the attempt by those in power to ignore or override the role of communities that are not in power, thereby preventing them from taking full part in democratic processes and decision-making. Therefore, Young proposes the need to intrude on inclusion in the democratic process, through communication models which she calls communicative democracy.

Цифровые платформы государственного управления в системе национальных публичных коммуникаций

The purpose of the article is to study public communications in digital platforms of public administration in Russia. In recent years, there has been an intensive introduction of digital platforms into the practice of public administration, and communications within the platforms have become part of the national system of public communications. The object of research in this article will be public communications in two digital platforms in Russia: St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. In the period from December 1, 2019 to November 1, 2020, we collected 10993 messages from the Our St. Petersburg platform and 3758 messages from the People's Expertise platform. The main research methods were the Text Mining method and qualitative analysis of messages. The results of the study of the platforms «Our St. Petersburg» and «People's Expertise» show that the practice of communication in them is very different from the ideals of public democratic communication. The most characteristic differences are the problematic nature of communications: citizens turn to authorities to solve problems most often in the field of housing and communal services. Public communications in the studied urban communication platforms are very different from communications in social networks in their limitations; platform affordances inhibit the spread of discussions. The most important epistemic authority in public communications is bureaucratic rules and appeals to legal procedures. When analyzing the procedure of political reasoning on digital platforms, some methods of manipulative presentation of information are revealed.

Menilik Bentuk Komunikasi Antara Anak Dan Orang Tua

This type of research is a qualitative study of communication ethnography studies. Sources of data are informants and several documents related to the research topic. The data in this study are in the form of communication speech between parents and children in Kabar Village, Sakra District. The method of obtaining data uses the method of observation and unstructured interviews. Data analysis used three stages, namely data reduction, data analysis and drawing conclusions. At the results stage, three communication patterns were found: 1) Authoritarian Communication Patterns (Authotirrian), 2). Permissive Communication Patterns, and 3). Democratic Communication Pattern (Authoritative). Authors and permissive communication patterns are still dominant, while democratic communication patterns are still small. This cannot be separated from the insight, economy and parental education factors.&#x0D;

The Study of Educational Programmes as a Way of Effectiveness of Moral Education of Preschool Children

Moral education of preschool children is a focused process of their initiation of moral values of mankind (humanism, kindness, humanity, justice, mercy and altruism) and stimulation of manifestations of empathy, sympathy and support in people’ world. Moral education is of great importance in the modern, very dynamic and constantly changing world. There is an urgent necessity to understand that human community is a family, where everyone is a part of the universal whole. It is necessary to avoid conflicts and wars in unity and live in peace. To overcome disputes and solve common problems at the negotiating table rather than by means of armed conflicts. To provide political, economic and social development of society constructively. To overcome any obstacles for free, democratic communication and human interaction. Moral education of preschoolers is based on specially developed content presented in educational programmes. The development and improvement of programmes is carried out throughout the entire period of development of national preschool education. Every document of the programme is created at a certain historical stage of development of society, reflecting its political, economic and social status as well as the level of development of the theory and practice of preschool education. At the present stage of the development of national preschool education, there is a need to study the history of development of the content of moral education of preschool children in national and foreign (Russian) educational programmes, which has not been studied specifically before. This has become the goal of our study and helped to set the objectives and content of moral education of preschoolers for the new edition of the program “Child” (2016)

Evaluating conspiracy claims as public sphere communication

ABSTRACT Conspiracy theories have become a ubiquitous feature of contemporary culture. From a communication studies perspective, conspiracy theories undermine democratic communication by misleading the public. However, the normative concept of a democratic public sphere also upholds the values of giving visibility to diverse perspectives and facilitating reasoned debate. Thus, academics can acknowledge the harms of conspiracy claims while being open, in principle, to their potential contribution to public debate. The challenge, of course, is to evaluate the public sphere implications of conspiracy claims; implications that may be difficult to ascertain and may change over time as new evidence emerges. This position is elucidated through an analysis of the conspiracy claims found in mainstream and alternative media coverage of the Syrian conflict. Much of the debate centres on ideas about the trustworthiness and impartiality of journalists and experts whereby efforts to establish the facts are superseded by received ideas about the credibility of sources. Ultimately, the Syrian conflict indicates that conspiracy claims can be valuable for the public sphere provided there are impartial actors willing to investigate conspiracy claims and provide clarification to the public.

BOOK ANALYSIS WITH THEMA GEOPOLITICS “MEDIA, TERRORISM AND THEORY”, A CRITICAL THEORY RESEARCH APPROACH USING SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS

This article seeks to create a discussion space related to the Media Book, Terrorism and Theory. This book seeks to provide an understanding of the contextualization of the global cycle of violence within the framework of "military action" and "terrorism," as well as mass communication media. The author tries to view this book as a literary work by using semiotic analysis to get the meanings in this book, especially in the sections Critical Media Theory, Democratic Communication, and Global Conflict and Chapter 8 with the title Terrorism, Public Relations and Propaganda. This research finally succeeded in achieving an evaluation that some myths were generated from the meaning of denotation and connotation of Roland Barthes' semiotic technique. These myths when tested through the source triangulation technique show inconsistencies. Some of the myths are discussed by academics and the media, but some do not appear in the media.

Quarta crise do cinema e a ascensão das séries de TV na contemporaneidade

Propõe a fazer um estudo comparado entre os formatos narrativos filme de ficção e série televisiva de ficção a partir dos três pontos de crise pensados por Arlindo Machado (2014) a respeito do cinema, em diálogo com autores como Jenkins, Johnson e Mittel sobre questões éticas, tecnológicas e narrativas no audiovisual da contemporaneidade. Ainda, observamos o contexto da pandemia de COVID-19 no mercado, identificando-o como uma potencial quarta crise no setor. A título ilustrativo, fazemos uma breve análise da série e do filme homônimos Fargo. Baseados na investigação, concluímos que há influência interdependente entre os dois formatos e que existem questões éticas relacionadas aos meios, no que tange uma comunicação democrática, que o mercado parece ignorar.

Democracy, Polis and Parasite in Communication

Communication, as a social activity existing in and comprising almost any human action, cannot take place but as a mediated performance, given that it consists in the triadic relation between transmitter, message and receiver. Its goal is always the transmission of a message with the highest possible coherence and, at the same time, its simultaneous comprehension with the less possible deterioration of its original meaning. A basic assumption is that a potential difficulty in everyday communication is due for the most part to the existence of one or more parasites, which could be detected either in external factors or in the message itself. The question is whether a parasite could live in the signifier of a word and thus determine or alter its signified during an act of communication. This paper aims at exploring Serres’ view on parasite and attempting to identify its existence and function within the signifier of words we use in everyday life. To that end the terms of “democracy” and “polis” will be used as examples of hosts of parasites.
