Systematic Literature Review Filsafat Idealisme dalam Pembentukan Karakter Siswa

The philosophy of Idealism in the formation of student character in school is a foundation in instilling moral, ethical, spiritual values that can be used as the main foundation in life in the world. In the current independent curriculum education, the concept of idealism education is needed especially in the approach and teaching in the classroom in order to achieve the educational goal of making students think critically, universally and have a character in accordance with the profile of Pancasila students. This study aims to determine the relationship between the philosophy of idealism in the formation of student character. This study uses the SRL method (systematic literature review). Data collection is obtained from the results of data collection from similar previous studies. The 15 journals obtained and used in this study are national journals from the Google scholar data base. The results obtained in this study are that there is a very close relationship between the philosophy of idealism in the formation of student character, especially in instilling religious, moral and ethical values. Another thing found in this study is the renewal of the idealism education curriculum which is included in the current independent curriculum learning.

Inovasi dan Tantangan Pengembangan Kurikulum Pendidikan Islam di Indonesia dalam Menghadapi Transformasi Digital

In facing the digital era, Islamic education needs to adapt, one of which is through curriculum renewal or development. This is important because the curriculum plays a central role as a reference and a determinant of educational success. This research aims to identify the challenges and opportunities in developing the Islamic education curriculum in facing the digital era and to provide solutions to overcome various challenges and leverage the opportunities in this digital age. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing two types of data sources: primary and secondary data. The data collection technique involves library research by reviewing literature related to the chosen topic. The challenges and opportunities highlight the importance of integrating Islamic values into the development of the Islamic education curriculum as a form of educational transformation to respond to the digital era. By understanding the various challenges, relevant and sustainable improvements can be made to enhance the quality of Islamic education. By recognizing the opportunities in the digital era, these can be utilized to improve resource quality and achieve the goals of Islamic education.

Medical teachers’ identity learning during major curriculum renewal: A landscapes of practice perspective

Purpose To explore how medical teachers navigate their professional identities when required to implement critical pedagogy during an undergraduate curriculum renewal initiative. Methods A qualitative exploratory study was conducted, using focus groups and individual interviews with twenty-six purposively selected undergraduate medical teachers at a South African university. Data were transcribed, coded, and thematically analysed. Concepts of Landscapes of Practice Theory and Teacher Identity Learning provided an interpretive framework. Results Findings show that medical teachers’ perceived capacity to implement critical pedagogy was influenced by identities that were constructed within the boundaries of a traditional biomedical curriculum. Three themes were identified, highlighting the inherent liminality of traversing a changing educational landscape: engaging in new practices: moving into the boundary space; attempting alignment: navigating identity in the boundary space; imagining the future: embracing identity in the boundary space. Conclusion Globally directed curriculum renewal imperatives may challenge the established pedagogical practices and professional identities of medical teachers. There is a need for institutional spaces that foster collaboration, dialogue, and reflection with a view to supporting the ongoing identity learning and development of knowledgeability of medical teachers responsible for curriculum transformation.

AFROCENTRIC PEDAGOGY APPROACH IN THE CURRICULUM OF EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM RENEWAL IN AFRICA: A CASE OF SOUTH AFRICA

The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize in greater detail the educational system approach that is being imposed into African countries, South Africa as a case in point. Over the past years, Sub-Saharan countries have and still experience indoctrinated educational system in which the content is mimicked from purported hegemonic states such UK, USA and other western counties inter alia. The problem of education retrogrades from the prior independence of African countries in the early 1960s wherein, the colonial masters organized and silently played a crucial role in shaping the formation of education in Africa; and not much has changed in terms of education since then. A particular concern is that the system of education might have designed to impoverish African people and perpetuate dependency to the western nations. Hence, at the core center of the educational system is the curriculum which seem to be inevitable and requires an alteration, particularly in South Africa. Therefore, the outlook of this paper is to critique and interrogate the system of education in South Africa looking at the socio-economic development and a continuous alteration in respect of the curriculum. The paper shows that for the realization of African renaissance, ideals of Africa Agenda 2063 and accelerated development, the system of education must be transformed and be Africanized to benefit the people of Africa. The paper uses literature-based approach as a methodological framework in order to analyze the status quo of education in South Africa. The paper concludes and recommends that the transformation of current educational system requires an alteration to the inclusive of indigenous knowledge to vigorously respond to socio-economic woes in Africa. Furthermore, the paper advocates for indigenous knowledge consideration in the incessant curriculum renewal.

Integrating a Longitudinal Course on the Principles of Research in an Outcomes-Based Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum.

Teaching and learning approaches can support medical students in developing the research skills necessary to be adept consumers of scientific research. Despite various influencing factors, existing literature on effective strategies in undergraduate medical education remains limited. Using a spiraled curriculum, we created and evaluated a longitudinal course to enhance medical students' research abilities. During a recent curriculum renewal at one medical school, a three-year longitudinal course on the principles of research was developed and implemented. The innovation of this course includes the sequential nature and deliberate redundancy of curriculum content, how new knowledge is linked to prior learning, and the progressive level of difficulty in knowledge application and skill development. The authors analysed faculty members' and students' satisfaction and their perceptions of each session of the course using program evaluation data collected between 2019 and 2021. Both faculty members and students recognized the benefits of revisiting concepts and highlighted learning outcomes like improved synthesis of information, explaining findings to patients, and enhanced critical thinking. The adoption of a spiraled curriculum in undergraduate medical education offers a systematic approach for developing students' research skills. The positive reception of this innovation underscores its potential to help future health professionals form a professional identity as adept researchers. However, its implications demand careful consideration and ongoing evaluation to ensure that the desired outcomes are sustained.

A comparison of approaches to teaching clinical skills

Background: The most appropriate timing and mode for teaching clinical skills as preparation for medical students’ clinical rotations or clerkships is not widely agreed upon. Increasing pressure on placement opportunities has led to a shift towards simulation-based teaching in the early years of medical training. Approach: A major curriculum renewal provided an opportunity for comparison of the effectiveness of a largely ward-based (early patient exposure) curriculum with a largely simulation-based one in preparing students for clinical rotations. Evaluation: We surveyed students from two different programs and invited them to take part in voluntary objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) to compare their skills and self-reported preparedness. Qualitative data was also collected from focus groups with a small number of students. Implications: The findings suggest that the more structured, simulation-based curriculum is at least equivalent to the ward-based approach in teaching clinical skills and preparing students for clinical rotations. Students’ clinical reasoning skills could be enhanced in a simulation-based curriculum through more explicit training to prepare them for being asked questions on clinical placement.

Two-Phase Individual Assessments: A Second-Chance Assessment Strategy With Individualized Feedback to Promote Assessment for Learning.

High-stakes multiple-choice question (MCQ) exams in medical education typically focus on assessment of learning at a single point without providing feedback for improvement. Educators can achieve a more balanced approach to MCQ exams by combining efficient assessment of learning with the feedback and improvement opportunities of assessment for learning. As part of a curriculum renewal at Baylor College of Medicine's MD program, the Two-Phase Individual Assessment (TPIA) model was launched within a 4-week preclinical Foundations of Medicine course in August 2023. The TPIA model featured weekly assessments, each consisting of 2 MCQ exams given on the same day with a 4-hour study period in between. Exams were paired, consisting of an equal number of items that addressed the same learning objectives. After the initial exam, students received an individualized feedback report indicating correctly and incorrectly answered objectives. Students applied individualized feedback reports to self-identify and remediate deficiencies in preparation for the second-chance exam. Only the highest score counted toward the final grade. Among 230 medical student participants, significant performance improvements between morning and afternoon exams were observed across the first 3 weekly TPIAs, with mean score increases of 4.93, 5.06, and 10.86. Mean change in performance in week 4 was not significant. Student end-of-course survey responses indicated a strong preference for the TPIA format. Responses highlighted the value of offering individualized feedback, providing unstructured time to address knowledge gaps, and ensuring a corresponding opportunity for improvement. Future research will extend TPIA's implementation in more clinical-oriented courses to validate TPIA's effectiveness and explore its effect on long-term knowledge retention through more cumulative examinations. Integrating TPIA-based approaches may advance educational systems toward developing a culture of feedback and embracing second chances to support learning and professional growth, thereby preparing medical professionals for the demands of 21st-century medicine.

Curriculum Updates and Their Impact on School Management Practices

Curriculum renewal influences not only educational content, but also overall school management practices. In this study, we investigate the impact of curriculum reform on school management practices with an interdisciplinary approach. Through a literature review, we identified various forms of impact, including changes in management paradigm, organizational structure, school culture, teacher skills, education quality, community involvement, management skills, resource quality, student involvement, and service quality. Our findings suggest that school management must adapt planning, training, resource provision, and community involvement to manage change. Regular evaluations are needed to develop more effective education policies and school management practices, with policy adjustments based on evaluation findings. Good communication and involvement of all stakeholders is the key to implementing significant changes in increasing educational effectiveness.

RESEARCH-ORIENTED TEACHER EDUCATION IN KAZAKHSTAN:POLICY DOCUMENTS AND LITERATURE ANALYSIS

School education is changing in response to the rapidly changing world, therefore, teacher education must change too. Modernization of teacher education in Kazakhstan is caused by curriculum renewal and a focus on research in the light of a knowledge-basedeconomy. Research capacity in teacher education at individual, organizational, and system levels ensures a quality development of the research component, which is discussed in international literature. The purpose of this article is to trace how research-oriented teacher education is discussed in the Kazakhstani context literature and captured in policy documents. Thematic analysis is employed to analyze and synthesize the data. Overall, fifteen articles by Kazakhstani and international authors and six policy documents were analyzed. The key themes drawn from the policy documents analysis include the rationale for research-oriented teacher education, the ways of research-oriented teacher education implementation, and teacher research competencies. In parallel, the literature review reveals the discussion of such topics as the readiness for research-oriented teacher education, barriers encountered, and suggestions for research-oriented teacher education development.

Curriculum renewal to enhance the acquisition of professional skills and engagement with professional practice across engineering programs

ABSTRACT Engineering students must develop professional practice skills such as critical thinking, empathy, communication, teamwork, and lifelong learning throughout their studies. These skills prepare them for addressing complex global problems in their professional careers. It is essential to systematically develop and embed professional practice skills in engineering programs and to support students through their development. Many institutions update their programs by embedding targeted interventions at strategic learning points. However, this process can be challenging as it is often done in a context with diverse stakeholder views, limited resources, and institutional processes that may not be conducive to change. This paper presents a model for curriculum renewal, developed in partnership with academic staff, professional staff, students, and industry. A significant aspect of this renewal focused on creating flexible pathways to meet professional practice accreditation requirements. The evaluation discussed in this paper examined the effectiveness of these flexible pathways. The curriculum renewal resulted in the evolution of engineering degrees, introducing a professional practice program that met accreditation requirements. This program supported students in advancing and reflecting on their professional skills and industry engagement. The results demonstrated a positive impact on students. This model could be adopted and adapted for other related degrees.

Do physical activity intensity and sedentary behaviour relate to burnout among medical students? Insight from two Canadian medical schools.

Medical school involves high expectations of medical students, which may increase their risk for burnout. Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) are modifiable risk factors for burnout. However, medical students are insufficiently taught about PA and SB and may therefore be less likely to meet guideline-recommended levels of these two movement behaviours or promote them in practice. Few studies have examined the relationships between medical students' PA intensity, SB, and burnout; such examination could help clarify educational needs for improving levels of movement behaviours and their promotion. This study investigated (1) the relationships between light, moderate, vigorous, and total PA, SB, and burnout among medical students, and (2) moderate-to-vigorous PA as a moderator of the relationship between SB and burnout, to guide future curriculum renewal. Medical students (N = 129) at two Canadian institutions completed online validated questionnaires assessing light, moderate, vigorous, and total PA, SB, and burnout. Regression analyses indicated that light PA (β = -.191, p = .039) and SB (β=-.230, p = .013) were negatively associated with burnout. Moderate-to-vigorous PA did not significantly moderate the relationship between SB and burnout. Engaging in lighter forms of PA and SB within guideline recommendations may help mitigate medical student burnout. Competencies to promote movement behaviours may dually target medical student burnout and curriculum gaps.

Reading Lists as Enablers of Learning in an Immersive Block Teaching Model

Reading lists have been described as a stalwart of the academic environment. This article explores the role of reading lists as a pedagogical tool and describes how reading lists contribute to an immersive block teaching model at an Australian university. Little has been written about the application of reading lists in block teaching models. This narrative case study explores how prescribed learning resources and reading lists were reframed as an enabling element of a student-centred, university-wide curriculum renewal project. With a limited number of readings permitted for each unit, a manageable volume of learning was fostered, reducing students’ cognitive load. This article builds on existing knowledge about the use and experience of reading lists in higher education and demonstrates how reading lists contribute to constructively aligned pedagogy in immersive block teaching models.

A doctor of pharmacy curriculum revision process focused on curricular overload

ObjectiveThe objective is to describe the impact of a curricular revision process using the 8-step Kotter change model to decrease curricular overload in a Doctor of Pharmacy program at a public, research-intensive school of pharmacy. MethodsIn alignment with the 8-step Kotter change model, the first step was to create urgency for change, which was supported by calls to action to address curricular overload. Next, a coalition of change leaders was formed, who developed 7 curriculum renewal targets to collectively address curricular overload. This vision was communicated at faculty meetings throughout the change process, with requests for feedback. Five curricular working groups were formed to empower action based on their charges. Quick wins were created by early adopters, which built momentum and led to a more streamlined course change process. Lastly, making changes stick requires ongoing evaluation. ResultsIn total, required didactic credits were reduced from 92.6 to 79 and didactic courses were reduced from 31 to 23 while ensuring that all required content remained. For many courses, contact hours were also reduced to align with allotted credit hours. Obstacles and challenges were encountered along the way, and a collaborative approach to finding solutions proved beneficial. ConclusionThe key recommendations for implementing curricular changes to address overload include having a change model in place and identifying change leaders to support change and address faculty concerns efficiently. Effective communication through repetition of messaging is critical. Although change is complex, leaning into it with patience and perseverance can lead to success.

Islamic Education Curriculum Development: Muhammad Iqbal's Thoughts on Progressive Islamic Education

This research examines Muhammad Iqbal's thoughts on the development of Islamic education curriculum with a focus on the integration of science and religion in contemporary education. The background of this research is the need for curriculum renewal that is relevant to the advancement of modern knowledge and the needs of society. The research method used is descriptive-analytical literature review by collecting and analyzing Iqbal's works and other related literature. The findings of the research show that Iqbal advocated a holistic education, combining Islamic spiritual values with scientific knowledge and humanities to create a comprehensive curriculum that meets the demands of the times. The study suggests that Iqbal's approach can serve as a basis for designing an Islamic education curriculum that produces graduates with balanced intellectual, spiritual, and social skills who are ready to contribute to the development of a dynamic and inclusive society.

Weapons of mass construction: The role of the Australian Curriculum in political discourse

AbstractNational curricula influence, and are influenced by, political agendas. Understanding political enmeshment (both overt and covert) in curriculum development is therefore vital for ensuring transparency and quality in curricula. This paper analyses how the Australian Curriculum is represented in the federal Education Ministers' media releases. Using NVivo, media releases were inductively coded into two broad themes: (a) back to basics, overcrowding and phonics; and (b) Australian ‘truth’: History, democracy and identity. By organising political discourse into the narrative presented below, I argue that the Australian Curriculum is used as a weapon of mass construction. In other words, politicians use curriculum development and renewal to enforce particular subject positions and attack the other side of government. As a result, genuine curriculum renewal is stymied, with each new government claiming that it is correcting the mistakes of the previous government while appearing to make no tangible changes. The implications of this analysis are that greater transparency of political involvement is needed in curriculum materials, greater teacher autonomy is needed to adapt curricula to localised contexts and greater student freedom to contest curricula is needed to ensure robust literacy development and meaningful engagement with subject knowledge.

Studi Literatur : Analisis Berpikir Komputasi Pada Guru dan Siswa Dalam Konteks Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka

Merdeka curriculum is a new curriculum from the Ministry of Education and Culture which is a renewal of the previous curriculum and educational changes to realize superior Indonesian Human Resources (HR) with the profile of Pancasila students. Computational thinking is a core skill needed and is considered by experts to be able to support the education sector in the 21st century, therefore computational thinking is part of the independent curriculum. For this reason, this research focuses on analyzing computational thinking in teachers and students in the context of implementing an Merdeka Curriculum. The purpose of this research is to find out, describe and to improve the analysis of computational thinking in teachers and students in the implementation of an Merdeka Curriculum. The method used in this research is the literature study method by identifying based on previous research in various literature sources to be analyzed. This research identified 5 previous journals published from 2022 to 2023. The result of this research is that the integration of computational thinking in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum has great potential and is an important step to improve the quality of learning or education in Indonesia in order to prepare or give birth to the next generation who are creative, innovative, able to solve problems and can be competitive in the digital era.

LANDASAN PENGEMBANGAN KURIKULUM PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM DALAM UPAYA MEMAJUKAN LEMBAGA PENDIDIKAN ISLAM: Kajian Kurikulum Pendidikan Madrasah dan Pesantren

The PAI curriculum development model needs serious attention, especially in its application during teaching and learning activities in educational institutions (madrasas and Islamic boarding schools), to develop students' knowledge through IMTAK and science and technology. This research aims to explain the basis for developing a PAI curriculum that is by learning models and development models based on madrasa growth. In this research, the literature study method was carried out to obtain valid and convincing data. The primary data sources used were journals, books, articles, papers, and other relevant sources based on the principles of PAI curriculum development. The analysis used in this research is descriptive data analysis objectively and systematically. Data analysis is methodical and results are taken impartially. The research results show that the curriculum is a system consisting of various components that are interconnected and linked to achieving educational goals. Implementing the Islamic Education curriculum functions as a road map that teachers must follow to direct their students toward the ultimate goal of Islamic education. So the PAI curriculum needs to pay attention to religious components, morals, then cultural aspects, and their utilization. The implications of this curriculum development include: 1) Curriculum renewal, 2) Integration of modern sciences, 3) Development of learning methods, 4) Empowerment of teaching staff, 5) collaboration with stakeholders, 6) Increasing curriculum relevance.

Assessment of the Midwifery Education Program at the University of British Columbia – A Survey of Graduates and Midwife Mentors

The Midwifery Program at the University of British Columbia is the only academic centre for midwifery education in British Columbia. The program consists of arts and science courses, midwifery theoretical and clinical courses, problem-based learning tutorials, laboratory simulations, clinical experiences in community midwifery, and a semester of interprofessional placements in a local or global setting. As university based midwifery education is new to British Columbia, critical evaluation of the curriculum is essential. Between 2005 and 2010, we examined the curriculum annually from the perspective of new graduates (n=34) and their mentors (n=21) to inform curriculum renewal and development. Overall graduates felt well prepared for clinical practice after graduating, and highly valued their clinical placements. Both graduates and midwife mentors reported competence with most clinical skills, and senior midwives noted the graduates’ fluency with both the hospital and home setting. Need for improvement was noted with respect to suturing and venipuncture. There were some discrepancies in the assessment of competencies. While all graduates felt well or adequately prepared to recognize and manage when a normal birth changes to abnormal, not all mentor midwives agreed. Conversely, midwife mentors felt that graduates were prepared in the area of client communication and counseling, yet graduates felt less confident in this area. Over the years, the Midwifery Education curriculum has evolved to address feedback received via the yearly curriculum evaluation. The academic calendar has been modified to allow students and faculty more time for preparation, integration and reflection during the introductory year, to facilitate the consolidation phase in the core clinical courses, and to facilitate senior research projects. Courses on counseling, pharmacology for midwives, lactation consultation, global maternity care, and anatomy labs have been added to the curriculum. The program continues its effort to enhance theoretical and clinical teaching by offering regular preceptor workshops.

Teaching Family? Care/Work Policy in Selected Family Courses in Canada's Research-Intensive Universities.

To what degree is explicit care/work policy taught in family courses in Canada's leading research-intensive universities? We analyze family courses in sociology departments and in political studies and women's/gender studies programs in Canada's 15 R1 universities to make a contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning. This national scan marks a methodological innovation from curriculum studies that generally adopt a single-program or single-site focus. From a Canadian universe of 74 family courses, we identify 15 whose formal course calendar description explicitly addresses care/work family policy (measures to reconcile caring for young children with employment, through early learning and childcare, parental leaves, and child benefits). Sociology predominates among courses where family policy is taught, yet care/work policy content is not common. Given growing concerns about the care crisis and the care deficit in Canada, the low profile of care/work family policy content in family courses is significant. This study sheds light on the value of national postsecondary education curricular reviews and suggests that family curriculum renewal is warranted.
