The study aimed at studying the integrated approach in teaching language between theory and practice. To achieve the purpose of the study, the researchers designed a model of whole- language approach, Language experience approach, whole text approach, the cognitive academic approach, then, they designed a comprehensive model for an integrated approach to recognize the nature of this approach. The study relied on an analytical descriptive approach. So, it described the integrated approach, analyzed its structure, and clarified the relationship between its elements. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers recommends to curry out experimental studies and training courses to recognize the effectiveness of the integrated approach, and including the importance of integrated approach in the students’ curricula.

Fostering Social Connectedness in First Year Seminar Students: A Pilot Study

University First Year Seminar (FYS) programs are diverse in their content and pedagogy. Yet all seek to assist first-year students in the difficult college transition. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate if grouping similar academic majors into the existing First Year Seminar (FYS) courses would improve social connectedness, use of academic resources, and engagement on campus. A subset of first year students were assigned to either the control group (CON) of normal mixed major sections, or to the experimental course (EXP) with only related majors. Thirteen EXP and 36 CON students completed the data collection, including an 18-question social support survey administered at the beginning and end of the course. Additionally, two open-ended qualitative analysis questions were asked related to student expectations and perceived course outcomes. Lastly, the three instructors of the EXP and CON courses studied were interviewed using phenomenological methods approximately one week after the end of the semester. Between-groups analysis of the 18 quantitative survey questions identified that the CON group reported more personal conversations with peers and attendance of campus activities while the EXP group reported more faculty interactions. At the beginning of the course, 77% of the EXP group expected to create social connections as a primary course outcome, while only 19% of the CON group did. Academic skills were a higher expectation among the CON group than the EXP group. When asked more directly, both groups expected to make social connections in the class (86%). However, by the end of the study, the reported outcomes were equivocal. Interviews with FYS professors uncovered their own valuable perceptions of connectedness to the university and recommendations for instructor support were made.

Exploration of the Reform of Multi subject Co construction Data Structure Experiment Course under the Mixed Teaching Mode

In response to the high complexity of algorithm courses and the difficulty for students to understand, this paper focuses on the data structure experimental course and proposes a multi subject co construction data structure experimental course reform strategy under the blended teaching mode. The article first explores the problems in the content and methods of practical courses, and then proposes reform measures in teaching modes, teaching systems, and teaching methods. At the same time, on the basis of school enterprise cooperation, design differentiated experimental projects, teach students according to their aptitude, and strive for a student-centered teaching model, collaborative assistance to complete the role exchange between teaching and learning.

Exploration and Research on the Project-Driven Teaching Mode of Building Materials and Testing Experimental Course

The project-driven experimental course teaching model focuses on the cultivation of students’ practical and innovative abilities, with projects as the core. This study takes the course “Building Materials and Testing” as an example to explore and evaluate the effectiveness of specific implementation methods of the project-driven experimental course teaching model. Through practical case analysis, it was found that this teaching model effectively enhanced the student’s practical hands-on abilities, innovative thinking abilities, and teamwork abilities. In this teaching model, students are not just passive recipients of knowledge, but actively learn by participating in project practice. They need to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems and cooperate with team members to complete project tasks. This learning approach makes students more proactive and positive, cultivating their practical hands-on abilities and teamwork abilities. With this, the teaching of experimental courses in architectural majors can refer to and draw lessons from the project-driven experimental course teaching model. However, teachers need to pay attention to solving potential problems when implementing this teaching model to ensure optimal teaching outcomes.

Based on Online+Offline and Virtual+Reality Research on Unmanned Organization Teaching Model

Experimental courses are an important part of cultivating talents in drone application technology, and drone assembly courses are a highly practical discipline. This article proposes to construct an experimental course teaching model of online+offline and virtual+reality , which can effectively solve the contradiction of insufficient drone equipment resources and slow equipment updates in schools, and also provide reference for the teaching reform of drone related majors.

A predictor-informed multi-subject bayesian approach for dynamic functional connectivity.

Dynamic functional connectivity investigates how the interactions among brain regions vary over the course of an fMRI experiment. Such transitions between different individual connectivity states can be modulated by changes in underlying physiological mechanisms that drive functional network dynamics, e.g., changes in attention or cognitive effort. In this paper, we develop a multi-subject Bayesian framework where the estimation of dynamic functional networks is informed by time-varying exogenous physiological covariates that are simultaneously recorded in each subject during the fMRI experiment. More specifically, we consider a dynamic Gaussian graphical model approach where a non-homogeneous hidden Markov model is employed to classify the fMRI time series into latent neurological states. We assume the state-transition probabilities to vary over time and across subjects as a function of the underlying covariates, allowing for the estimation of recurrent connectivity patterns and the sharing of networks among the subjects. We further assume sparsity in the network structures via shrinkage priors, and achieve edge selection in the estimated graph structures by introducing a multi-comparison procedure for shrinkage-based inferences with Bayesian false discovery rate control. We evaluate the performances of our method vs alternative approaches on synthetic data. We apply our modeling framework on a resting-state experiment where fMRI data have been collected concurrently with pupillometry measurements, as a proxy of cognitive processing, and assess the heterogeneity of the effects of changes in pupil dilation on the subjects' propensity to change connectivity states. The heterogeneity of state occupancy across subjects provides an understanding of the relationship between increased pupil dilation and transitions toward different cognitive states.

The article presents the changes in the shape of karst sinkholes obtained in the course of modeling experiments during the joint operation of a cross-beam foundation bounded by a rigid vertical wall and an inclined base with a karst cavity. The regularities of transformation of the failure prism depending on the base inclination angle have been determined. The influence of the main variable factors was evaluated: the diameter of the karst cavity, the distance from the foundation footing to the center of the cavity, the distance from the center of the cavity to the retaining structure and the base inclination angle. Based on the results of model experiments, the values of the angle of deviation of the sinkhole formation from the vertical were obtained.

Negative feedback systems for modelling NF-κB transcription factor oscillatory activity

ABSTRACT Low-dimensional negative feedback systems (NFSs) were developed within a signal flow model to describe the oscillatory activities of NF-κB caused by interactions with its inhibitor IκBα. The NFSs were established as 3rd- and 4th-order linear systems containing unperturbed and perturbed negative feedback (NF) loops with constant or time-varying NF strengths and a feed-forward loop. NF-related analytical solutions to the NFSs representing the time courses of NF-κB and IκBα were determined and their exact mathematical relationship was found. The NFS’s parameters were determined to fit the experimental time courses of NF-κB in TNF-α-stimulated embryonic fibroblasts, rela −/− embryonic fibroblasts reconstituted with RelA, C9L cells, GFP-p65 knock-in embryonic fibroblasts and embryogenic fibroblasts lacking Iκβ and IκBε, LPS-stimulated IC-21 macrophages treated or not with DCPA, and anti-IgM-stimulated DT40 B-lymphocytes. The unperturbed and perturbed NFSs describing the above biosystems generated isochronous and non-isochronous solutions, depending on a constant or time-varying NF strength, respectively. The oscillation period of the NF-coupled solutions, the phase difference between them and the time delays in the appearance of cytoplasmic IκBα after stimulation of NF-κB were determined. A significant divergence between the IκBα solutions to the NFSs and the IκBα experimental courses led to a rejection of the NF coupling between NF-κB and IκBα in the above biosystems. It was shown that neither the linearity nor the low dimensionality of the NFSs altered the NF relationship and the divergence between the IκBα solutions to the NFS and IκBα experimental time courses. Although the NF relationship between IκBα and NF-κB was not confirmed in all the experimental data analyzed, delayed negative feedback was found in some cases.

Analysis of the Development Trend of Ideological and Political Education in Experimental Courses in Colleges and Universities: Visual Analysis Based on CiteSpace

In order to deeply understand the status of ideological and political research on experimental courses in colleges and universities, the relevant literature collected by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) was taken as the research object, and the analysis was carried out by using CiteSpace software. The results show that research authors of ideological and political education in experimental courses have not yet formed cross-regional cooperation, and there is no core author. The ideological and political construction of experimental courses mainly focuses on experimental courses such as medicine, chemistry, and physics. The research focus on ideological and political education in experimental courses focuses on the concept of educating people, the construction of teaching systems, teaching modes, and the combination of new experimental teaching methods and ideological and political elements. The ideological and political education of experimental courses needs more attention and support from colleges and universities.

Experimental teaching design of CRISPR/Cas9 technology in rice breeding application

The CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology has proven to be valuable in crop breeding applications. Understanding and mastering this technology will provide a strong foundation for students majoring in biology, agronomy, and related fields to engage in scientific research and work. To incorporate CRISPR/Cas9 technology into experimental teaching courses at colleges, an innovative teaching experiment entitled "Enhancing the resistance of rice plants to bacterial blight disease using CRISPR/Cas9 technology" was designed. The experiment allows students to deepen their understanding of the basic principles of CRISPR/Cas technology, acquire proficiency in its protocol, and learn to apply the technology for targeted molecular breeding of rice. It not only expands students' knowledge and skills, but also promotes the reform and innovation of experimental teaching methods.

FAM83B promotes cell proliferation via regulating the expression of CDK4/CDK6/CCND1 complex in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

FAM83B, as one of the FAM83 family members, has been closely involved in cell transformation, and a growing number of scholars have been studied its role in tumours over the years. Whereas the effect and potential mechanism of FAM83B in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) have not been investigated. In this research, we discovered that the expression quantity of FAM83B was remarkably higher in LSCC tissues (79.65 ± 35.98) than in matched adjacent tissues (59.34 ± 32.59) by tissue microarrays and immunohistochemistry. Furthermore, expression of FAM83B was knocked down in HEP-2 and TU177 cell lines via lentivirus, and in the course of intracorporal and extracorporeal experiments, FAM83B knockdown showed the inhibition of tumour growth, migration, and invasion ability. Moreover, cell cycle assay showed that FAM83B knockdown leads to an apparent accumulation of cells in the G1 phase, indicating that FAM83B knockdown can inhibit cell proliferation. Meanwhile, western blotting (WB) demonstrated that FAM83B knockdown led to a significant reduction in CDK4/CDK6/CCND1 protein expression, which may have decelerated cell cycle progression. Collectively, this study demonstrates that FAM83B serves as an oncogene in LSCC, promoting cell proliferation by controlling the protein expression of CDK4, CDK6, and CCND1, thus inducing a transference of the G1 stage to S stage in cell-cycle of LSCC cells. These results provide an academic foundation for elucidating the mechanism of LSCC occurrence and evolution and for developing treatment strategies for LSCC.

Stability of transcranial magnetic stimulation electroencephalogram evoked potentials in pediatric epilepsy

Transcranial magnetic stimulation paired with electroencephalography (TMS–EEG) can measure local excitability and functional connectivity. To address trial-to-trial variability, responses to multiple TMS pulses are recorded to obtain an average TMS evoked potential (TEP). Balancing adequate data acquisition to establish stable TEPs with feasible experimental duration is critical when applying TMS–EEG to clinical populations. Here we aim to investigate the minimum number of pulses (MNP) required to achieve stable TEPs in children with epilepsy. Eighteen children with Self-Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes, a common epilepsy arising from the motor cortices, underwent multiple 100-pulse blocks of TMS to both motor cortices over two days. TMS was applied at 120% of resting motor threshold (rMT) up to a maximum of 100% maximum stimulator output. The average of all 100 pulses was used as a “gold-standard” TEP to which we compared “candidate” TEPs obtained by averaging subsets of pulses. We defined TEP stability as the MNP needed to achieve a concordance correlation coefficient of 80% between the candidate and “gold-standard” TEP. We additionally assessed whether experimental or clinical factors affected TEP stability. Results show that stable TEPs can be derived from fewer than 100 pulses, a number typically used for designing TMS-EEG experiments. The early segment (15–80 ms) of the TEP was less stable than the later segment (80–350 ms). Global mean field amplitude derived from all channels was less stable than local TEP derived from channels overlying the stimulated site. TEP stability did not differ depending on stimulated hemisphere, block order, or antiseizure medication use, but was greater in older children. Stimulation administered with an intensity above the rMT yielded more stable local TEPs. Studies of TMS-EEG in pediatrics have been limited by the complexity of experimental set-up and time course. This study serves as a critical starting point, demonstrating the feasibility of designing efficient TMS–EEG studies that use a relatively small number of pulses to study pediatric epilepsy and potentially other pediatric groups.

Investigating the possibility of using subcritical water for extracting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from soils of the dry-steppe zone

In the course of the model experiment, extraction conditions of 16 priority PAHs in subcritical water medium were selected for soils of the chestnut-solonetz complex. For low molecular weight 2-ringed naphthalene and 3-ringed acenaphthene, acenaphthylene, anthracene, phenanthrene and fluorene, the optimal extraction conditions correspond to 10 minutes at a temperature of 200°C. For high molecular weight 4- and 5-ring benz(a)anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, chrysene, benz(b)fluoranthene, benz(k)fluoranthene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, as well as the pollutant of the first hazard class - benz(a)pyrene, the optimal extraction time reached 20 minutes at a temperature of 250°C. For 6-ring benz(g,h,i)perylene and indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene, the optimum extraction time increased to 30 minutes and the temperature to 300°C. When comparing the methods of extraction of pollutants from soils, it is shown that the extraction methods can be placed in the following descending order by the value of the extraction coefficient of priority PAHs from the studied types of soils: ultrasonic extraction (1.05) > subcritical extraction (1.13) > saponification method (1.25). Using multivariate analysis of dispersion it is shown that the efficiency of subcritical aqueous extraction decreases with increasing number of benzene rings in the PAH molecule, as well as with increasing soil salinity in the following order: Gleyic Kastanozems < Endosalic Kastanozems < Kastanozems Sodic < Solonets.

Developing a safety engineering experimental course using “Macro-Safety” discipline integration

Professional experiment courses are important to students’ understanding and recognition of professional knowledge as links to professional experiments. The University of Science and Technology Beijing’s “Macro-Safety” discipline integration approach to safety engineering was used to develop safety engineering experimental courses. Development methods were discussed. A research background in multiple dominant disciplines helped establish the cultivation mode for innovation in students majoring in safety engineering. We combined the traditional teaching mode with multi-disciplinary, innovative experimental teaching, which improved the students’ enthusiasm for studying safety engineering, enhanced their practicality and innovation, and laid a solid foundation for their comprehensive development. The research results of this paper can be used in metallurgy, materials, and other related majors.

This paper proposes to use the detonation process to solve the problem of controlling highly maneuverable flying vehicles. The goal of the work is to study a new way of the thrust vector control of a rocket engine using the effect of a detonation shock wave on the gas flow in the nozzle. It is known that the method of thrust vector control by gas injection into the supersonic nozzle area of a rocket engine features one of the lowest losses of specific momentum and a high response speed and produces a significant lateral force. However, for the current level of rocket technology, there is a need to improve these characteristics. Detonation is considered as a method to intensify processes that affect the main gas flow and produce a lateral force. Its features make it possible to develop a system for pulse trajectory correction. In order to study the features of such a system, experimental studies of the detonation wave effect on a supersonic nozzle flow were conducted. A nozzle model and a gas generator for initiating a detonation wave interacting with the main supersonic air flow were developed and made. In the course of experiments, the effect of separation of the main flow from the nozzle wall by the detonation wave during the nozzle operation in the overexpansion mode was revealed. The duration of this effect was much longer than that of the detonation product effect on the main air flow in the nozzle, thus allowing it to be used in the development of a new thrust vector control method. To better understand the experimental results, a numerical simulation of the detonation wave propagation in a supersonic flow was carried out for the test conditions. The simulation was carried out in a non-stationary 2D formulation using the Solid Works software package. The goal of the simulation was to estimate the flow structure and the value of the relative lateral force produced by the change of this structure during detonation product injection into the supersonic nozzle area. The time evolution of the pressure field was obtained. The relative lateral force produced by detonation product injection into the supersonic air flow in the nozzle was determined. The presented features and method of jet engine thrust vector control may be used in unmanned systems operating in a wide range of speeds.

An Intelligent Controller of LED Street Light Based on Discrete Devices

To combat global environmental deterioration and energy scarcities, it is crucial to implement energy-saving upgrades for urban road lighting. Comparatively, LEDs have emerged as an advanced and eco-friendly lighting option due to their low energy consumption, excellent performance, high color rendering index, and prolonged lifespan. By incorporating solar cell technology, a smart LED street light controller based on small-scale integrated circuits was developed to enable intelligent control for various lighting needs such as dimming, timing, automatic detection, and sound and light control. Through circuit simulations and experimental outcomes, it has been validated that the controller’s structure and performance parameters align with the design specifications. This design encompasses knowledge from diverse fields, including fundamentals of circuit and electronic technology, photovoltaic cell technology, power electronics, and sensor technology, showcasing robust engineering and practicality. Its utilization in the experimental course for second-year college students majoring in electrical engineering contributes to the grooming of professionals and expands the perspectives of future talents, enriching their application of knowledge and practical innovation capabilities.

Quantitative Insight into the Compressive Strain Rate Sensitivity of Polylactic Acid, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, Polyamide 12, and Polypropylene in Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing

Herein, a research and engineering gap, i.e., the quantitative determination of the effects of the compressive loading rate on the engineering response of the most popular polymers in Material Extrusion (MEX) Additive Manufacturing (AM) is successfully filled out. PLA (Polylactic Acid), ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), PP (Polypropylene), and PA12 (Polyamide 12) raw powders were evaluated and melt-extruded to produce fully documented filaments for 3D printing. Compressive specimens after the ASTM-D695 standard were then fabricated with MEX AM. The compressive tests were carried out in pure quasi-static conditions of the test standard (1.3 mm/min) and in accelerated loading rates of 50, 100, 150, and 200 mm/min respectively per polymer. The experimental and evaluation course proved differences in engineering responses among different polymers, in terms of compressive strength, elasticity modulus, toughness, and strain rate sensitivity index. A common finding was that the increase in the strain rate increased the mechanical response of the polymeric parts. The increase in the compressive strength reached 25% between the lowest and the highest strain rates the parts were tested for most polymers. Remarkable variations of deformation and fracture modes were also observed and documented. The current research yielded results with valuable predictive capacity for modeling and engineering modeling, which hold engineering and industrial merit.

Effectiveness of case study method in teacher preparation in Kazakhstan

Relevance. The research is relevant as it evaluates the effectiveness of the case study method in developing professional competencies of future teachers in Kazakhstan, where this approach is underutilized. It addresses a gap in the current teacher training system by comparing the case study method with traditional teaching approaches and providing evidence for its potential benefits. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the efficacy of the case study method in nurturing the professional competencies of prospective teachers enrolled in the �Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages� educational program. Additionally, the study seeks to compare the effectiveness of the case study method with conventional teaching methods and put the developed cases to the test. Methodology. The research relied on empirical methods to assess the participants� initial and final levels of professional competence. Results. In the course of the pedagogical experiment, the case study method was employed to introduce the revised �Educational Psychology� course content. The aim of the course is the theoretical and practical mastery of knowledge about the psychology of educational activity, the relationship between learning processes, teaching, training, and education, as well as the formation of scientific psychological thinking, professional knowledge, and skills of future specialists in the field of educational psychology. Conclusions. Using the case study method in teacher training enhances professional competencies and increases motivation for learning. Research shows significant improvement in competencies among those taught using this method compared to traditional education. The non-art project 1971: notes on the emergence of experimental studies at Brighton Polytechnic

ABSTRACT This article outlines and considers the emergence of (fine art) Experimental Studies at Brighton Polytechnic in 1971, as part of the art school modernisations after the Coldstream Report of 1960. Research, to date, suggests this was the first and maybe the longest-running experimental fine art media course in the UK. The photographic works of artists John Hilliard and Roger Cutforth are discussed as they taught the early years of the course, and Roger Cutforth’s work The Non-Art Project (1970–1971), an offsite project and small black and white photobook gives this article its title. The term non-art, as a category in art history is explored along with Information (Kynaston McShine, MOMA 1970), and both are suggested as an important underpinning for the emergence of Experimental Studies, which became Fine Art Critical Practice (FACP) and was run out to form a general fine art course 2020–2022. The end of the paper looks at a particular FACP student degree show from 2015 which resembles some noteworthy curatorial work of Roger Cutforth from 1971. This visual coincidence is taken as a marker – not of deliberate reference, but of a tradition that can still be used with agency and aesthetic purpose by later generations.

Applying augmented reality multimedia technology to construct a platform for translation and teaching system

This paper investigates the integration of augmented reality (AR) technology into English translation teaching for college students, emphasizing the pivotal role of innovative teaching methods in enhancing students' translation skills and learning experiences. To address the issue of insufficient interest in English translation teaching, the paper initially assesses the purpose and significance of learning English translation through a questionnaire survey, elucidating challenges encountered in English language acquisition. Subsequently, adhering to AR principles, a teaching demonstration platform rooted in AR technology is conceived and developed, intricately aligned with English translation instruction. The platform serves as a solution to issues in English learning, such as inadequate course comprehension, low utilization of teaching resources, and instructors' lack of experience. The research culminates in the analysis of survey results, wherein the quantitative disparities in translation ability between students utilizing the research platform and those subjected to traditional teaching methods are examined. The findings underscore the positive impact of the AR-based research platform on improving students' translation proficiency. The AR platform heightens learners' engagement in the learning process, contributes to constructing a robust knowledge framework, and enhances overall learning outcomes. The platform offers educators opportunities to optimize experimental courses and elevate teaching standards. The paper's outcomes present novel pedagogical scenarios for learners, propose technical solutions for other technical disciplines and furnish a theoretical foundation and application model for a new generation of experimental demonstration platforms.
