Application of Cyrene solvent for the fabrication of polymethyl methacrylate, polyethyl methacrylate and composite films containing hydroxyapatite and diamonds

AbstractCyrene is a new biodegradable solvent, which represents a green alternative to many traditional toxic solvents for advanced polymers. Therefore, this investigation is motivated by interest in applications of Cyrene for polymer processing. The feasibility of solubilization of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) in Cyrene is demonstrated. The ability to form relatively concentrated solutions of the high molecular mass polymers is an important factor for the formation of PMMA and PEMA films by a dip coating method. It was found that the polymer coatings provide corrosion protection of stainless steel in 30 g L−1 NaCl solutions. Another important finding is that the use of Cyrene facilitates the fabrication of stable suspensions of hydroxyapatite (HAp), microdiamond, and nanodiamond particles. Therefore, the problems of the dispersant selection for dispersion of chemically inert diamond and development of biocompatible dispersants are avoided using Cyrene. For the fabrication of composite films, HAp nanorods with reduced particle size are obtained using rutin as a chelating capping agent. Composite films containing HAp, microdiamond and nanodiamond in the PMMA or PEMA matrix are obtained. The composite films are promising for biomedical applications. It was found that the film morphology, composition and microstructure are influenced by the solvent–particle–polymer interactions and processing conditions.

Improvement in inhibition performance of anti-corrosion coatings using polyolefin matrix embedded with modified TiO2 nanoparticles

Corrosion remains a critical issue for steel structures, leading to costly repairs and potential failures in industrial sectors. This study presents the development and characterization of polyolefin coatings for enhanced corrosion protection. Initially, the porous TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel method, followed by their modification through the encapsulation of sodium benzoate (SB) as a corrosion inhibitor. Modified Polyolefin coatings were prepared by incorporating modified nanoparticles (TiO2 loaded with sodium benzoate) into the polyolefin matrix, and an unmodified/blank polyolefin coating was prepared without any additive in the polyolefin matrix. The loading of the inhibitor into porous TiO2 was 10 % analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis. Furthermore, the electrochemical analysis revealed significant improvements in the corrosion resistance and barrier properties of the modified coatings compared to the unmodified blank coatings. Specifically, after 7 days in a corrosive environment, the blank coating pore resistance dropped from 1 × 1010 Ω·cm2 to 5 × 108 Ω·cm2, while the modified coating maintained a high pore resistance of 5 × 1011 Ω·cm2. A localized corrosion study for scratched blank polyolefin coatings showed growing corrosion activity from 5 h of immersion, while modified coatings ceased the detectable activity before 4 h of immersion, which evidenced the improved corrosion inhibition efficiency of the modified coating. This stability in corrosive environments was attributed to the successful loading of modified nanoparticles (TiO2/SB), where SB served as an active agent by forming a protective film on the steel substrate. Which inhibits the corrosion processes along with Ti-based compounds and prevents corrosion propagation under the damaged coating. The enhanced hydrophobic nature of 99° and electrochemical properties support the suitability of these coatings for corrosion protection of steel in various industries.

Corrosion Protection of Mild Steel in Simulated Offshore Environment Using Ocimum gratissimum Leaf Extract

The inhibitive action of Ocimum gratissimum leaf extracts on mild steel corrosion in 1M HCl and 0.5 NaCl solutions was studied using the Gravimetric technique. Four weighed well-polished coupons suspended into sample bottles labeled 200mg/l, 400mg/l, 800mg/l, 1200mg/l and the blank respectively was used. The results shown in Tables 1 to 5 is the weight loss data of mild steel in 0.1 M HCl and the effects of Ocimum gratissimum introduction and how the mild steel corroded progressively thereby increasing the weight loss value over immersion time as seen in Fig. 1. Fig. 2 shows the effects of Ocimum gratissimum extract concentration on the corrosion rate of mild steel in HCl, it is evident that increase in the concentration of the extract led to the decrease in the value of weight loss leading to appreciable inhibition efficiency. The plot in Fig. 3 showed that the values of the inhibition efficiency increased with the concentration of Ocimum gratissimum extract in the acidic environment except the value for 9 days which decreased with concentration. These results led to decrease in the values of inhibition efficiency over time as shown in Fig. 4. Tables 6 to 10 shows the weight loss data for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M NaCl and the effects of Ocimum gratissimum introduction. The result showed that mild steel corroded, leading to fluctuations in the inhibition efficiency. Figs. 5-8 showed the variations of efficiency with time with different concentrations of Ocimum gratissimum in 0.5 M NaCl. Addition of Ocimum gratissimum extract synergistically increased the efficiency of the inhibitor and helped reduce the corrosion rate. A mechanism of adsorption is proposed to explain inhibition behaviour.

Nanosilica from canary seed husk for corrosion protection of structural steel

AbstractAn alternative technique is presented for the corrosion protection of the A36 structural steel (A36SS) in acid medium (H2SO4) using silica obtained from canary seed husk (CSH). The silica was obtained in a solid amorphous state with a particle size of 10–22 nm. The anticorrosive properties of nanosilica (NS) were studied using potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), linear polarization resistance (LPR), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Before carrying out the corrosion tests, the A36SS was subjected to a treatment with NaOH solution without and with the presence of NS. The A36SS treated with NS presented the lowest current density values and the noblest corrosion potential values, indicating that the corrosion rate decreased. The surface morphological study of the tested systems using SEM/EDS showed that the NS‐treated A36SS had a more efficient physical barrier against corrosive species.

Self-forming barrier layer for carbon dioxide corrosion protection of mild steel in NaCl solution containing hydroxychavicol isolated from Piper betle L. leaf

Hydroxychavicol compound was isolated from Piper betle L. leaf and identified via preparative high performance liquid chromatography (Prep-HPLC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Hydroxychavicol compound was demonstrated to be a potential inhibitor for mild steel corrosion in carbon dioxide-containing environments due to the formation of a barrier layer on the steel surface. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) results indicated that the inclusion of hydroxychavicol in the aggressive environment made steel surfaces more homogeneous and smoother with a rough mean square roughness of 7.78 nm, whereas the steel surface was severely corroded in the blank solution. Moreover, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed an enrichment of hydroxychavicol species combined with iron oxides and hydroxides on the mild steel surface. This can lead to the creation of a protective layer on the mild steel surface, thereby enhancing corrosion protection and localized inhibition. The work suggested a novel approach to isolate corrosion inhibitors from natural products, particularly agricultural by-products for mild steel in carbon dioxide and chloride ion environment with high inhibition performance.

Corrosion Protection of Q235 Steel Using Epoxy Coatings Based on Polyaniline Loaded with Benzotriazole

Polyaniline (PANI) doped with hydrochloric acid and phytic acid are prepared as benzotriazole (BTA) inhibitor carriers, and their anticorrosion properties are studied on epoxy resin-coated Q235 steel. The structure and morphology of the prepared PANI materials are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal stability of PANI and its release rate of corrosion inhibitor are measured, and the test results indicate that hydrochloric acid-doped PANI can accommodate a larger amount of corrosion inhibitor. The results of contact angle and water absorption tests show that the PANI loaded with BTA can improve the hydrophobicity and reduce the water absorption of the coating. The anticorrosion performances of epoxy coatings with 0.6 wt% PANI are investigated in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution using electrochemical tests. The experimental results reveal that PANI loaded with BTA shows a good anticorrosion effect in the epoxy coating. Particularly, phytic acid-doped PANI loaded with BTA has a better inhibition efficiency (93.6%), which is superior to hydrochloric acid-doped PANI loaded with BTA (86.4%).

High‐potent trifunctional polybenzoxazines coatings for superhydrophobic cotton fabrics and mild steel corrosion protection applications

AbstractNew trifunctional polybenzoxazines were developed and utilized as a high‐potent coating material for superhydrophobic cotton fabrics and mild steel corrosion protection applications. New trifunctional benzoxazines resin have been synthesized using trihydroxytriphenylmethane (TTM) with dimethylaminopropylamine (dmapa), 1‐(3‐aminopropyl)imidazole (ipa) and aminoethoxyethanol (aee) as amine sources with paraformaldehyde through Mannich condensation. The structural confirmation of synthesized benzoxazines was ascertained by spectral studies. The ring opening polymerization of TTM‐Bzs was studied using DSC analysis. All the three TTM‐Bz monomers show curing temperature lower than 210°C. The thermo‐stability and water contact angle (WCA) of polybenzoxazines were studied using thermogravimetric analysis and goniometer, respectively. Among the TTM‐PBz studied, the poly(dmapa) exhibit better thermo‐stability and hydrophobic behavior when compared to rest of the synthesized polybenzoxazines. Poly(TTM‐dmapa)‐coated cotton fabric exhibits the superhydrophobic behavior and mild steel (MS)‐coated specimen possesses the higher charge transfer resistance value of 3.47 × 107 Ω cm2. It was also inferred that all the TTM‐PBz‐coated MS specimens exhibit higher corrosion protection behavior as well as good thermo‐stability and hydrophobic nature. Further, the obtained results suggested that these materials can be suitably exploited for hydrophobic anticorrosion applications with improved performance and enhanced longevity.

Co-electrodeposition of superhydrophobic NiCo/CeO2 coating with hierarchical nano/micro structure for corrosion protection of plain carbon steel

This study aimed to develop an effective corrosion protection strategy for carbon steel by employing a superhydrophobic NiCo coating modified with CeO2 nanoparticles through the co-electrodeposition method. The superhydrophobicity was achieved by adjusting the composite coating's morphology and surface roughness. The synergistic impact of CeO2 and EDA crystal modifier on the coating's morphology, composition, topography, corrosion protection performance, and wetting properties was systematically investigated. The SEM results revealed the formation of a flower-like nano/micro morphology in the presence of EDA, and this morphology was preserved with the addition of 4 g/L CeO2 into the electrolyte. Surface wettability was significantly influenced by the hierarchical nano/micro structure of the deposited coating, with an enhanced superhydrophobicity observed in the presence of CeO2. The increase in surface roughness and compaction, achieved by incorporating CeO2 nanoparticles into the hierarchical structure of the NiCo coating, played a pivotal role in creating a superhydrophobic surface. Furthermore, polarization and EIS tests demonstrated that the superhydrophobic NiCo-EDA/CeO2 coating exhibited excellent anti-corrosion performance for the carbon steel substrate. In this case, Ecorr shifted towards positive values, icorr decreased, and both charge transfer resistance and coating resistance showed a considerable increase compared to other studied coatings. The alteration of metal wettability to a superhydrophobic state, combined with the barrier role of the coating and the presence of ceramic reinforcements (CeO2), offers comprehensive protection to the steel substrate. This approach holds great promise for effectively controlling the corrosion rate of widely used engineering metals.

Design of New Ecofriendly Schiff Base Inhibitors for Carbon Steel Corrosion Protection in Acidic Solutions: Electrochemical, Surface, and Theoretical Studies.

Corrosion poses a significant problem for several industrial sectors, inducing continuous research and development of corrosion inhibitors for use across a wide range of industrial applications. Here, we report the effectiveness of three newly developed Schiff bases derived from amino acids and 4-aminoacetophenone, namely, AIP, AMB, and AImP, as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors for Q235 steel in hydrochloric acid using electrochemical and surface analyses, in addition to theoretical techniques. The electrochemical findings of potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) demonstrated that the explored compounds serve as mixed-type inhibitors and can effectively suppress steel corrosion, with maximal protection efficiencies of 93.15, 96.01, and 77.03% in the presence of AIP, AMB, and AImP, respectively, at a concentration of 10 mM. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization results confirmed the growth of a durable protective barrier on the steel surface in the existence of the inhibitors, which is responsible for decreasing the metallic dissolution. Results were further supported by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UV-vis, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), which ascribed the development of inhibitor-adsorption films on the steel surface. The results of EDS and XPS analyses demonstrated the existence of the distinctive elements of the inhibitors on the metallic surface. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations showed the electronic structure of the examined inhibitors and their optimized adsorption configurations on the steel surface, which helped in explaining the anticorrosion mechanism. Finally, the theoretical and experimental findings exhibit a high degree of consistency.

“Exploring the Inhibitory Potential of Acetoxime-Zinc Chloride Adduct in Saline Environments for Mild Steel Corrosion Protection”

ABSTRACT In this work, acetoxime, zinc chloride and acetoxime adduct of zinc chloride, [ZnCl2.2{HON=C(CH3)2}] (ZA) were investigated as corrosion inhibitor's in 3.5%NaCl solution on mild steel. The electrochemical analysis was carried out using polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance technique and surface analysis was done by Scanning electron microscope coupled with Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Using surface analysis and electrochemical data it was concluded that an inhibition synergy was developed when ZA was taken instead of acetoxime or zinc chloride alone in solution phase. Scanning electron microscope methods were used to examine the samples surface in the presence of inhibited solutions. The efficiency of inhibition increases with the increasing concentration and attained the values of 97.18% for the 3mM concentration of ZA.

Effect of tabebuia heterophylla plant leaves extract on corrosion protection of low carbon steel in 1M HCl medium: Electrochemical, quantum chemical and surface characterization studies.

In the current study the chemical constituents of Tabebuia heterophylla plant leaves extract (THLE) evaluated as corrosion inhibitor for low carbon steel (LCS) in 1 M HCl. The major component present in plant extract was Hexadecanoic acid 2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl) ethyl ester confirmed by Gas Chromatography with Mass spectroscopic (GC-MS) analysis. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarisation (PDP) and weight loss measurements were used to evaluate the THLE ability to protect low-carbon steel surface against corrosion in 1M HCl medium. The maximum inhibition efficiency reported as 95.45%, 93.99% and 94.79% by weight loss measurements, EIS and PDP methods respectively. In the prolongation of the work, the entropy of adsorption (Δ Sa*), enthalpy of adsorption (Δ Ha*), Gibbs free energy of adsorption (Δ Ga*), and activation energy (Ea) of the reaction were calculated. In absence of inhibitor, the Ea value was found to be minimum 49.38 kJ/mol whereas for optimum concentration of THLE it was found to be 77.2 kJ/mol implies more energy is required to undergo corrosion. The surface morphological observation from Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopic (AFM) and Contact angle explored the effective adsorption of THLE. AFM values revealed that average surface roughness (Ra) value of LCS is high (188.08), where as in the presence of THLE, Ra values significantly reduced to minimum value of 37.226. Further chemical interactions between THLE and the low-carbon steel surface as well as inhibitory mechanism were further elucidated by theoretical simulations such as Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Sebacate intercalated Ca[sbnd]Al layered double hydroxide pigments for corrosion protection of low carbon steel: Anion exchange and electrochemical properties

Sebacate (SB) molecules were incorporated into CaAl layered double hydroxides (CaAL-LDH) using a hydrothermal method. The resulting products underwent characterization through X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. To investigate the release kinetics and thermodynamics of the corrosion inhibitor, total organic carbon analysis (TOC) was employed. A comparison was made with CaAl-LDH prepared without corrosion inhibitors, in which nitrates were the primary anions within the layered clay structure. An assessment of anion exchange between nitrates and chlorides was conducted using total nitrogen analysis (TN). The SB anion comprised approximately 49.2% of the total dried powder synthesized, with a maximum release efficiency of around 86.7% fitting a Langmuir model. For the evaluation of the corrosion inhibition effect on steel surfaces, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization, and scanning vibrating electrode technique were employed. The corrosion inhibition impact was ascribed to the liberation of SB anions from the CaAl-LDH pigments, accompanied by alkalinization stemming from partial particle dissolution. Additionally, the incorporation of organic molecules notably enhanced the stability of pigments in aqueous solutions compared to similar ones hosting nitrates. These findings suggested that CaAl-LDH pigments have potential as nanocontainers for organic inhibitors, showing promising prospects in the field of corrosion research.

Impact of Co3O4 nanoparticles on epoxy's mechanical and corrosion-resistance properties for carbon steel in seawater

Co3O4 nanoparticles (Co3O4-NPs) are synthesized using the facile solvothermal method. FT-IR and XRD spectroscopic analyses verify the creation of cobalt oxide nanoparticles with an average size of 13.20 nm. Furthermore, Zeta potential assessments were carried out to identify the electrical charge of the surface of the produced Co3O4-NPs, which was found to be -20.5 mV. In addition, the average pore size of Co3O4-NPs is 19.8 nm, and their BET surface area is 92.4 m/g. The study also concerned the effect of Co3O4-NPs on epoxy's improvement of mechanical and corrosion protection for carbon steel in salt solution. By including Co3O4-NPs in an epoxy (EP) coating, corrosion is effectively prevented by non-permeable protective coatings that effectively reduce the transfer of corrosion ions and oxygen.

PH-Responsive Graphene Oxide-Based 2D/3D Composite for Enhancing Anti-Corrosion Properties of Epoxy Coating.

The functionalized graphene oxide (GO)-based composites as fillers added into organic coatings are desired for realizing the longstanding corrosion protection of carbon steel. Here, the pH-responsive two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) GO-based composite (ZIF-90-AAP/GO) was developed by environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor 4-aminoantipyrine (AAP) anchored on the in situ growth of zeolite imidazolate framework-90 (ZIF-90) on the GO surface (ZIF-90/GO) through the Schiff base reaction. The active filler (ZIF-90-AAP/GO) was incorporated into an epoxy coating (EP) to obtain a high-performance self-healing coating on the surface of carbon steel. ZIF-90-AAP can greatly improve dispersion and compatibility of GO in EP. The low-frequency impedance modulus of ZIF-90-AAP/GO-EP can still reach up to 1.35 × 1010 Ω⋅cm2 after 40 days, which is about three orders of magnitude higher than that of the EP containing GO (GO-EP) relying on its passive and active corrosion protection. Meanwhile, ZIF-90-AAP/GO-EP exhibits excellent self-healing performance. The self-healing rate of ZIF-90-AAP/GO changes from negative to positive after 24 h, which results from the effective corrosion inhibition activity of ZIF-90-AAP for carbon steel based on the pH-triggered controlled release of AAP. The developed pH-responsive 2D/3D GO-based composite coating is very attractive for the corrosion protection of carbon steel.

Green inhibitor loaded functional halloysite nanotubes modified coatings for improving corrosion protection of carbon steel

In this study, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were first etched with H2SO4 or NaOH and then loaded with a green corrosion inhibitor (sodium benzoate, SB) under vacuum. Subsequently, a thin layer of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was coated for the controlled release of SB. The dispersion of the coated HNTs in epoxy resin was improved by amino functionalization with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES). The obtained S24HNTs-SB-TEOS-APTES nanocapsules were analyzed by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), showing that after etching with 5 mol/L of H2SO4 for 24 h, the pore size inside the HNTs increased, and the tubular morphology was maintained. According to the results of UV–visible spectroscopy, SB was released faster in acidic (pH=3) and alkaline conditions (pH=11) than neutral condition. Furthermore, nanocapsules were successfully embedded in epoxy coating used for corrosion protection of carbon steel. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and salt spray experiments demonstrated that the smart composite coating exhibited outstanding corrosion resistance, and the addition of 3 wt% S24HNTs-SB-TEOS-APTES having the most excellent anticorrosion performance with its impedance at 0.01 Hz maintaining 3.11 × 106 Ω⋅cm2 even after 3 weeks of corrosion immersion.

Harnessing active biofilm for microbial corrosion protection of carbon steel against Geobacter sulfurreducens

Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) caused by corrosive microorganisms poses significant economic losses and safety hazards. Conventional corrosion prevention methods have limitations, so it is necessary to develop the eco-friendly and long-term effective strategies to mitigate MIC. This study investigated the inhibition of Vibrio sp. EF187016 biofilm on Geobacter sulfurreducens on carbon steel. Vibrio sp. EF187016 biofilm reduced the corrosion current density and impeded pitting corrosion. A thick and uniform Vibrio sp. EF187016 biofilm formed on the coupon surfaces, acting as a protective layer against corrosive ions and electron acquisition by G. sulfurreducens. The pre-grown mature Vibrio sp. EF187016 biofilms, provided enhanced protection against G. sulfurreducens corrosion. Additionally, the extracellular polymeric substances from Vibrio sp. EF187016 was confirmed to act as a green corrosion inhibitor to mitigate microbial corrosion. This study highlights the potential of active biofilms for eco-friendly corrosion protection, offering a novel perspective on material preservation against microbial corrosion.

Preparation of self-healing superhydrophobic polyacrylate coatings based on silica matrix-microcapsules containing corrosion inhibitor for long-term corrosion protection

In this study, a superhydrophobic coating with self-healing properties for carbon steel corrosion protection was developed, incorporating fluorinated silica microcapsules containing corrosion inhibitor and fluorinated siloxane acrylate copolymer (FSC). Triethanolamine (TEA), functioning as a corrosion inhibitor, was encapsulated in silica matrix-microcapsules through a water-in-oil (W/O) interfacial condensation method. Furthermore, the prepared silica microcapsules underwent 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (PFDTES) fluorination modification under the catalytic action of ammonia. Upon mechanical disruption of the superhydrophobic coating, the microcapsules liberate rust inhibitors, thereby instigating the formation of a fresh passivation layer on the surface of mild steel, perpetuating its defense against corrosion. These prepared superhydrophobic coatings manifest commendable antifouling, self-cleaning, and durability attributes, collectively representing pivotal traits requisite for efficacious metal surface anticorrosion. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) assessments conclusively substantiate the pronounced enhancement in the corrosion resistance of mild steel surfaces upon application of the synthesized superhydrophobic coating. More importantly, the self-healing capability of the superhydrophobic rust-resistant coating has been confirmed through EIS testing. Specifically, following mechanical damage to the superhydrophobic coating, the corrosion resistance of specimens housing rust inhibitors markedly exceeds that of counterparts devoid of these inhibitors. The innovative amalgamation of intelligent composite superhydrophobic coatings, underscored by these findings, underscores its broad applicability in combating metal corrosion, thereby holding substantial promise in this domain.

Exploring corrosion protection for mild steel in HCl solution: An experimental and theoretical analysis of an antipyrine derivative as an anticorrosion agent

AbstractThe corrosion of mild steel in HCl solution remains a critical issue in various industrial applications. In the quest for effective corrosion inhibitors, 4‐(2‐Hydroxy‐3‐Methoxybenzylideneamino) antipyrine (HMBA) has emerged as a promising candidate. This study investigates the inhibitory properties of HMBA on mild steel corrosion in HCl solution through weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) techniques. The experiments spanned over various time periods, including 1, 5, 10, 24, and 48 h. The results reveal that HMBA exhibits exceptional inhibition efficiency (IE), with an impressive 94.7% inhibition rate. This outstanding performance underscores its potential as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in aggressive HCl environments. To elucidate the adsorption behavior of HMBA on the mild steel surface, Langmuir isotherm modeling was employed, demonstrating a strong correlation between the experimental data and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. Furthermore, the study employs density functional theory (DFT) to gain insight into the mechanism of HMBA inhibition. DFT calculations suggest that both physisorption and chemisorption mechanisms are involved in the interaction between HMBA and the mild steel surface. The calculated Gibbs free energy of adsorption () is found to be approximately , indicating a spontaneous and energetically favorable adsorption process. In conclusion, HMBA emerges as a highly effective corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in HCl solution, offering impressive IE over various time intervals. The combination of experimental techniques, such as WL, EIS, and PDP, along with computational insights from DFT calculations, provides an understanding of the inhibitory properties of HMBA. These findings hold great promise for the development of environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors in industrial applications.
