Those who oppose the treatment do so largely on the ground that large amounts of alkali are contraindicated, and that the results do not justify the time and trouble which the treatment entails. Its enthusiastic advocates maintain that complete neutralization of the gastric contents can be obtained if the treatment is carried out properly and that better results will follow this therapy.
