The article brings to light the way modern Ukrainian author O. Drobakha displays a deep philosophical sense of the social changes in life of Europeans in XVIII century in his historical fictional travel essay “Ukrainian secrets of France” which are certain to have influenced the national identity of Ukrainians as well as examines the phenomenon of the Great French Revolution in the context of the general development of Ukrainian society. From the perspective of the character of Napoleon Bonaparte not corrupted with the imperial colonial discourse the writer covers the role of a personality in history reflecting on the relations between French and Ukrainian peoples for centuries. Speaking about the spiritual closeness of both peoples – blood brothers, in a form of contemporary Ukrainian travel prose the author thinks over the reasons of transgression of Ukrainians’ awareness in precarious social life since after the military political activity of Napoleon France chose its own geopolitical way of development which is somewhat different from Ukrainian one. An attempt to gain an understanding of complicated historic events in each country’s destiny makes the writer examine the reasons of their different path of development and at the same time create characters of those people who can become coordinators of qualitative changes in society.
