Employee Perceptions of Institutional Quality of Tourism Area in Jumiang, Pamekasan District

The Jumiang tourism area is located in Pademawu Subdistrict, Pamekasan District, which is one of the tourism areas that can be built as educational tourism. This is based on natural conditions and the potential possessed by this tourism area. Since the tourism awareness group (pok-darwis) was formed, the tourist area of Jumiang is now making many improvements, especially in the availability of tourist facilities and attractions. This is aimed at attracting the number of tourists that declined in the past few years. The existence of Pok-Darwis is certainly the spearhead of the sustainability of the management of the Jumiang tourist area. This study uses qualitative analysis with a focus on institutional perception analysis. This analysis is expected to provide an evaluation to the relevant parties so that the management of Jumiang tourism area will be better so that the concept of sustainable tourism and education tourism can be achieved. The results of the analysis show that the institutional quality of Pok-Darwis for the Jumiang Tourism Area still has weaknesses, such as in terms of institutional strengthening. However, the institutional effectiveness of the Jumiang tourism area can be said to be effective.

The Challenge of Generating Sustainable Value: Narratives About Sustainability in the Italian Tourism Sector

Tourism is capable of distributing wealth and participating substantially in the economic development of many countries. However, to ensure these benefits, the planning, management, and monitoring of a sustainable offer become crucial. Despite the increasingly widespread attention to sustainability in this sector, however, the concept of sustainable tourism still appears fragmented and fuzzy. The theoretical frameworks used in many studies often reduce sustainability to its environmental or social aspects and consider such pillars as separate issues. Furthermore, although most studies acknowledge that a potentially wide number of stakeholders play a role in sustainable tourism production, they have so far focused on host communities, tourism producers, or tourists themselves independently. Fewer explorations have addressed simultaneously different stakeholders, their perceptions of sustainable tourism experience, and the various concerns and tensions that may arise. This study aims to investigate sustainability issues in tourism by considering the voices of two relevant stakeholders involved in “co-producing” the tourism experience: tourists and tour operators. Based on a qualitative study conducted in Italy, the article critically discusses how travelers and tour operators craft the sustainability idea, the implicit assumptions that rely on their different perspectives, and their practical implications. The results highlight four different narratives on sustainable tourism, which are related to different assumptions on sustainability and actions legitimated to generate sustainable value. Finally, the article offers insights into how to develop a more holistic and critical approach to sustainable tourism through education and communication.

Mapping the Potential and the Development of Kendran as a Tourism Village Model in Bali

Purpose: (1) Compile a baseline study of the potential of tourist objects and attractions as well as the readiness of community participation in the Community Based Tourism development model and forms of collaboration with relevant stakeholders; (2) Strengthening institutional and community empowerment in developing Kendran Tourism Village, as a community-based tourism village; and (3) Establishment of cooperation models and policies that can be developed by local governments and related stakeholders.
 Research methods: the method of documentation, questionnaires, interviews, and FGD. The collected data was then analyzed using existing condition analysis techniques, ADO-ODTWA assessment, participatory rural analysis (PRA), SWOT analysis, MACTOR analysis, and MULTIPOL analysis.
 Findings: Kendran Village as a tourist village, as well as its readiness for development were quite potential. The main policies that need to be prioritized include increasing the capacity of rural communities, strengthening village tourism institutions, packaging attractions / attractions for creating branding, and expanding and maintaining markets.
 Implications: the development of a single destination tourist village is the creation of branding, while the policy to increase the capacity of rural communities has the highest value in the multiple destination tourist village scenario. Tourism development policy in the Province of Bali refers to the concept of sustainable and quality tourism, through various multi-sector policies.

SUSTAINABLE TOURIST VILLAGES MANAGEMENT BASED ON JAVANESE LOCAL WISDOM ‘MEMAYU HAYUNING BAWONO’ BEST PRACTICE OF DESA WISATA PENTINGSARI, YOGYAKARTA

Purpose of the Study: This study aims to identify the potential of Pentingsari Tourist Village and tourist characteristics and analyze the presence of local wisdom Memayu Hayuning Bawono in Pentingsari Village, especially its implementation in the sustainable Tourist Villages management. Methodology: This research uses a "multi-method" or mixed-method approach. In addition to conducting non-participant observation in the Pentingsari tourism village, researchers also conducted in-depth interviews with a purposive sampling method. While the accident sampling method was adopted to distribute questionnaires involving 72 respondents (tourists). Main Findings: This research found that tourism and local wisdom have become unity and seem to strengthen one another. In other words, harmonization between the environment, arts and culture, and community life aspects through local wisdom, can become a tourism commodity. On the other hand, tourism provides economic and social impacts to preserve the local sense of the community. Implication/Applications: This case study can be useful as a role model of sustainable tourism management based on local knowledge. Besides, this study can enrich references related to the concept of sustainable tourism based on local wisdom. Originality of the study: The paper is original, and this is the current study to examine the local wisdom Memayu Hayuning Bawono in Pentingsari Village, particularly related to tourism issues.

Sustainable Tourism Concept to Revitalize Ocarina Area in Batam City, Indonesia

The purpose of this research is to explore the concept of revitalizing the coastal tourism area with a sustainable tourism approach. Ocarina area is one of the tourist destinations in Batam city. Its strategic location is right in the center of Batam and is surrounded by several areas with different functions, among others there are housing (housing Regata, housing Monde Residence, housing Avante, Monde Signature housing, etc.), a school (Mondial school), a commercial area ( Pasir Putih shops, Mahkota Raya shops) and also the location of Ocarina area is close to the international ferry. The phenomenon that occurs in this tourist area has long been built and managed but has decreased visitors so that needs to be revitalized by using the concept of sustainable tourism. This strategic location is not accompanied by the success of the development of the Ocarina area as a public space that offers a variety of game facilities and culinary venues. The phenomenon that makes the need for revitalizing measures both physically and economically to make the Ocarina area can attract visitors to come and enjoy the facilities that are in it. The research method was a qualitative method of direct observation in the field. Analysis process is conducted to identify the problems that exist in the field today especially in the area of Ocarina Phase 1 so that the area of Ocarina Phase 2 can make Ocarina Phase 1 to be revitalized area and can be one of the sustainable tourism Batam city that can improve the economy of Batam city. How Can Rural Tourism Be Sustainable? A Systematic Review

This investigation reviewed articles associated with sustainable rural tourism found on the Web of Science database over a 10-year span from 2009 to 2019. The 76 articles that were selected for their inclusion of the concept of sustainable rural tourism were listed in a comprehensive table, thereby revealing the research purpose, topics, detailed topics, research methods, and data source of the articles. The findings indicate that many papers on sustainable rural tourism were written from a holistic sustainability perspective without being biased towards any one of the environmental, economic, and social aspects. In the field of rural tourism, it is essential to pay attention to interactions in all aspects of the environment, economy, and society, and to analyze them overall. In addition, this study confirmed that efforts to understand sustainable rural tourism from the customer perspective have been increased since customer loyalty is considered important for sustainability. This study is significant in that, since it evaluated the knowledge status for the first time through systematic review and applied content analysis to academic literature related to sustainability in the sector of rural tourism, it can expand and deepen the knowledge and understanding of related topics and raise awareness of a new research direction.

Environmental effects of tourism and its seasonality on Mediterranean islands: the contribution of the Interreg MED BLUEISLANDS project to build up an approach towards sustainable tourism

The Mediterranean basin is amongst the world’s main tourist destination, and its islands are a major attraction, being sites of historical, cultural and naturalistic importance. This is beneficial for the local economies, but it may also represent a great burden on the coastal environment, where other human pressures are concentrated. The awareness of detrimental side effects of tourism together with the importance to take into account social and economic facets has led to the concept of sustainable tourism, which, however, represents a goal far from being attained. A good opportunity to promote sustainable tourism was provided by the Interreg MED BLUEISLANDS project, whose main aim was to identify, address and mitigate the effects of the seasonal variation of waste generated by tourism on Mediterranean islands. Here, we present the methodological framework of the project aimed at biomonitoring coastal seawater in highly touristic sites using macroalgae as valuable bioindicators of seawater quality and improving its status through the implementation and assessment of mitigation measures that included also the involvement of stakeholders. Outcomes of the project highlighted the effectiveness of such an integrated approach, confirming the importance of choosing proper indicators and tools that can support the development of management plans aiming to mitigate environmental impact and foster sustainable tourism.

From threat to opportunity: sustainability and tourism in Koli National Park

Across the globe, conservation has been increasingly in conflict with other human activities. National parks are an important concept in nature protection and probably the most recognized institution in nature tourism worldwide. The concept of sustainable nature tourism became a part of the planning and management of Finnish national parks at the beginning of the new millennium. We analyze the environmental conflict and the idea and practices of sustainable nature tourism from a historical perspective in one Finnish national park: Koli. The main research question is how has the concept of sustainability been used to resolve the conflict between tourism and nature protection? Our perspective is based on the essence of sustainable nature tourism as humanity’s interaction with the environment. The main data of the study consists of interviews with park managers and planners and archival material from local newspapers. In Koli, the history of the founding of the park and tourism development were strongly affected by diverse nature relationships between different actors. In the human-nature relationship perspective, it was a matter of how the land was to be utilized, on an anthropocentric or eco-centric basis. From the park management point of view, sustainable nature tourism was a conceptual and practical tool to diffuse the conflict. Experiences in Koli show how eco-utilitarian perspectives toward nature conservation can help to resolve conflict. Today the idea of sustainability has been adapted by large-scale tourism developers and earlier failed vast plans for Koli are alive again, only reconceptualized with the idea of sustainability. This kind of economy-based sustainability in turn pushes the idea of sustainable nature tourism further from nature itself and eco-centric perspectives and provides foundations for a new conflict.

Independent Community Building Model through Environmental-based Tourism Management in “Masdarling” Program

Village tourism program is one of programs that can boost positive contributions to community development. This study aimed to design an independent community building model through environmental-based tourism management. Using primary and secondary data, the researchers used qualitative descriptive analysis to obtain a model of independent community building through environmental-based tourism management by forming a group named environmental awareness community group or Masdarling. In this way, regional potential can be used maximally, while masdarling tourism development was done using Community Based Tourism (CBT). A participative community empowerment became the main instrument to increase environmental living standard and preservation. Based on the mapping of problem patterns, the crucial programs to develop covered tourism awareness community, joint business group and integrated waste management efforts. It was expected that the development of tourism village through several kinds of village groups could explore various and sustainable tourism concepts. As a result, this development could fulfill the criteria of access, attraction, amenities. Upon this achievement, new tourism spots in Bontang City and the increase in community income can be obtained. Also, village economy and environment quality were resulted through the indirect effects of this development.

Responsible processing of crowdsourced tourism data

Online tourism crowdsourcing platforms, such as AirBnB, Expedia or TripAdvisor, rely on the continuous data sharing by tourists and businesses to provide free or paid value-added services. When adequately processed, these data streams can be used to explain and support businesses in the early identification of trends as well as prospective tourists in obtaining tailored recommendations, increasing the confidence in the platform and empowering further end-users. However, existing platforms still do not embrace the desired accountability, responsibility and transparency (ART) design principles, underlying to the concept of sustainable tourism. The objective of this work is to study this problem, identify the most promising techniques which follow these principles and design a novel ART-compliant processing pipeline. To this end, this work surveys: (i) real-time data stream mining techniques for recommendation and trend identification; (ii) trust and reputation (T&R) modelling of data contributors; (iii) chained-based storage of trust models as smart contracts for traceability and authenticity; and (iv) trust- and reputation-based explanations for a transparent and satisfying user experience. The proposed pipeline redesign has implications both to digital and to sustainable tourism since it advances the current processing of tourism crowdsourcing platforms and impacts on the three pillars of sustainable tourism.

Carving the Future of Nature Ecotourism in Indonesia: Case of Taman Wisata Alam Telogo Warno Telogo Pengilon

Indonesia has potential ecotourism spots that are need to be utilized as well as to increase the value of forest benefits from the aspect of environmental services while maintaining the function of the area. However, there are contraints in managing natural tourism in conservation areas according to the concept of sustainable tourism. This study focuses on the performance of sustainable nature tourism management applied in Taman Wisata Alam Telogo Warno Telogo Pengilon (TWA TWTP) that is carried out in the form of a partnership between the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Jawa Tengah (Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Office; BKSDA) and PT. Alam Indah Bonbin Lestari (AIBBL) as the holder of Ijin Usaha Penyediaan Sarana Wisata Alam (Business License for the Provision of Nature Tourism Facilities; IUPSWA). The results show positive improvement in the management of TWA TWTP. However, several issues that require immediate improvement still remain. In general, all of the aspects are categorized in to four scopes: (1) management of effective sustainable tourism destination, (2) the optimization of economic benefits for local communities, (3) the optimization of cultural preservation for the communities and visitors, and (4) environmental conservation.

PEST Analysis Model dalam Pengembangan Potensi Wisata Pulau Benan, Kabupaten Lingga, Kepulauan Riau

The core problem of tourism sector on empowerment and natural resource development is the mapping to the potency and development strategy of tourism has not yet been maximized. This article, focus to use the PEST Model analysis to identify the growth of Benan Island as tourism destination. This research conducted through library study, and data analyzed through content analysis. The result, political, economic, social and technology factors has impacted broadly to development of Benan Island tourism in the long run. The author also purpose the alternatif model of development of priority scale tourism potential with the concept of sustainable tourism and community empowerment by involving tourism industry actors. The use of PEST Model Analysis of the tourism potential of Benan Island can also be applied to several other islands in Lingga Regency.

Beyond certification: an empirically expanded quality control tool ‘multiverse’ for sustainable tourism

Sustainable tourism quality control tools (ST-QCTs) are voluntary mechanisms essential for translating sustainable tourism concepts into practice. Recent scholarship, synthesizing the extant literature, revealed a complex ‘multiverse’ of 15 ST-QCT types and seven critical variability parameters. Our empirical investigation of this multiverse in the diversified, year-round destination of Park City, USA, involving 27 semi-structured interviews with business informants representing three sectors, revealed another 11 ST-QCT types and the two additional critical variability parameters of formality (formal-to-informal) and dependence (dependent-to-independent). The results, indicating multiple alternative ST-QCT pathways with idiosyncratic merit at the operational scale, provide incipient evidence of a transition from conventional, standardized ‘Fordist’ modes of sustainable tourism practice to ‘post-Fordist’ modes conferring greater flexibility and customization.

Architectural Tourism Development Model as Sustainable Tourism Concept in Bandung

Bandung is famous tourist destinations in Indonesia which experiences rapid tourism development. It is supported by city’s diverse tourism potential, include in: nature, culture, heritage building, culinary, fashion, recreation, and entertainment. Moreover, infrastructure and public facility improvement increase tourism attractiveness of Bandung. Two major infrastructure projects, namely Cipularang Toll and Jakarta - Bandung Fast Train will support Bandung tourism development. This condition is benchmark of Bandung tourist attractions. To maintain such potential, it is necessary for Bandung to have programmed, structured, and controlled tourism development model. Current tourism model is inclined to sustainable industrial concept preserving environment and local culture. Tourism programme is directed to generate income and green employment, with regard to conservation. This study aims to assist planning and management of sustainable tourism development by increasing level of understanding on how tourist destinations develop and change. Results of this study can be taken into consideration for stakeholder to develop a framework for strategic planning toward economically, environmentally and culturally sustainable tourism.

Community leader perspectives on the utilization of seagrass ecosystem for marine tourism in Toli-toli, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

Seagrass ecosystem and dugongs (Dugong dugon) are significant features of the northern coastal areas of Toli-toli and its adjacent small islands. Local communities are familiar with the dugongs for some reasons, including activities threatening its population. Therefore, Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project-Indonesia initiated conservation of the seagrass ecosystem and the dugongs in Toli-toli. Local communities, with supports from local governments, are keen to develop tourism to gain economic benefit from the conservation. Accordingly, the project allowed some local leaders an opportunity to learn from the Seribu Islands, an extraordinary location of marine tourism. This paper describes their learning process and immediate responses expressing perspectives on how their tourism should be developed. After being introduced to some key features of Seribu Island, local concerns, problem solutions, and discussed a concept of sustainable tourism in a small workshop, they concluded the tourism objects in their home are much better. They also were confident with the importance of conservation and aware of some negative impacts of tourism. The outcomes of this visit should be carefully noted by anyone who wants to involve in the tourism development that uses Toli-toli’s nature and culture as objects.

Using Bibliometric Methods to Shed Light on the Concept of Sustainable Tourism

The publication of the Brundtland report in 1987 introduced the concept of sustainable development, placing “sustainability” as a unifying idea for all academic disciplines. Consequently, in the tourism sector, sustainable tourism emerged as a new approach to research in the field. Since then, the body of literature on sustainable tourism has only increased, as has the discussion around the conceptual structure of sustainable tourism among academics and professionals. The aim of the study is to complement this theoretical discussion with an inductive approach to the limits of the conceptual structure of sustainable tourism. To do so, we identify the main research topics in the field and their evolution in the past 32 years through bibliometric methods such as evaluative techniques, relational techniques, and visualization of bibliometric data techniques using the VOSviewer program. The results of the study reflect that the sustainable tourism has reached a complexity that is reflected in its current polyhedral content to function as a conceptual umbrella. In addition, it demonstrates that the bibliometric analysis is an adequate and useful methodology for academics and professionals involved in the academic debate around this field of knowledge.

The Research on Sustainable Tourism in the Light of Its Paradigms

This study investigates the nature and specificity of the concept of sustainable tourism against the background of the paradigm of sustainable development (with regard to the conditions for the implementation of its practices in Polish conditions). The study assumes the hypothesis that researching sustainable tourism as a category within a new scientific concept—i.e., an emerging paradigm of sustainable development—requires the use of an appropriate scientific methodology. This study, in its essential part, has an overview and theoretical character. A critical analysis of the literature on the subject from books and journals, as well as Internet sources, is used in the study. Documentary and observation methods are applied, and the results of qualitative research based on case study research methodology are presented; thus, the empirical part of the paper has an exploratory nature. Research on sustainable tourism as a category within an emerging paradigm of sustainable development shows that researchers use an appropriate scientific methodology, which is compatible with the interpretive paradigm in the highest degree. In case studies, the research is often limited to the analysis of one example. Due to the prevalence of studies applying qualitative methods, an interpretivist approach is prevalent, while a functionalist approach, associated with quantitative research and model testing, is less frequent.

Birdwatching Potential Based on Distribution of Bird Diversity in Protected Forests RPH Sumbermanjing Kulon KPH Malang

Areas with natural forest potential that are still preserved have the potential to birdwatching activities, a concept of sustainable tourism to preserve the environment and increase the participation of local communities. Protected forests in the South Malang area are natural forests which are still protected by habitat conditions for wild animals, especially for bird species. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential development of a birdwatching track based on the distribution of birds in the Protected Forest Area of Sumbermanjing Kulon KPH Malang. Make a path of observation and identify the types of birds found in protected forests. Knowing the community's response to birdwatching activities around protected forests through interviews. Data analysis was done by making a map of the distribution of maps and the potential of the observation pathway using the ArcGis 10.3 program. There are 51 species of birds with 3.4 species diversity (H ') in the high category. The potential of 22 birdwatching routes with mostly flat road conditions (59%), sloping (23%) and steep (18%). Bird species that can be found in 6 species of birds for each observation pathway. Knowledge of respondents related to the ability to recognize 3-5 species of birds 40%, recognize 70% birdwatching activities, and 83% of respondents' agree with the development of birdwatching as a tourism. Tingkat Pemahaman Masyarakat Lokal sebagai Pemangku Kepentingan Kunci di Tebing Breksi Yogyakarta Terhadap Prinsip-Prinsip Pariwisata Berkelanjutan Berdasarkan SUSTDI

Tourism has involved the local communities as a key stakeholders in many tourism destination in Indonesia that are growing due to the phenomenon of digital tourism. In Tebing Breksi Yogyakarta, the growth of tourism sector as a result of the digital tourism phenomenon has made the local people relying on tourism as the main sector to ful l economic needs after the mining ban from the local government. This research conduct the SUSTDI (Stakeholder Understanding of Sustainable Tourism Development Index) method as a tool to asses level of understanding of local communities about sustainable tourism concepts. According to Timur & Getz (2009: 223) about the theory of key stakeholder role, three groups of local community has identi ed such as: host community group, local authority group and tourism industry group. The proportional sampling and strati ed random sampling conducted to determined the amount of representative respondent. The result showed that the local communities as the key stakeholder in Tebing Breksi have a high overall level of understanding about the sustainable tourism concept at the scale 4,19 out of 5,00. Despite of that, the level of understanding on the three of the group respondent on question number 23 implies that the “economic development funds should to be used to promote tourism” as “Medium”. Moreover, tourism planner can use this results to develop a precise education and training program to improve their knowledge about sustainable tourism development.

Kestävän luontomatkailun uhat ja mahdollisuudet Kolin ja Urho Kekkosen kansallispuistoissa

In the past few decades, sustainable nature tourism has become one of the most growing and debatable fields of the tourism industry. This article focuses on analyzing the possibilities and threats regarding sustainable nature tourism of two Finnish national parks: Koli in North Karelia and Urho Kekkonen National Park in Lapland. The main data of the study consists of the interviews of the park managers and planners and of the survey study of the companies and societies cooperating with the parks. The main findings of the study suggest that the entrepreneurs operating in the national parks have adapted to the sustainability thinking and are developing their businesses in that regard. From the park management’s point of view, the concept of sustainable nature tourism and local cooperation by that means has been an effective tool to improve tourism and the positive attitudes towards the parks. Nevertheless, the concept of sustainability is complex, and there are multiple factors setting different expectations for tourism and the parks. This means that reaching a compromise between the park and tourism development and the limits of sustainability is more or less debatable.
