Exploration of Case Teaching Mode in Software Engineering Course

Software engineering is a highly practical core course in computer related majors. The traditional teaching model focuses on teaching theoretical knowledge, while the case teaching model introduces practical cases and drives teaching activities with actual project cases, combining practice with theory to cultivate students' practical and problem-solving abilities. The paper analyzes the background and necessity of teaching reform in software engineering courses, and designs a software engineering case teaching mode, and provides practical suggestions. This teaching mode helps to enhance students' interest and understanding of the knowledge they have learned, cultivate their innovative thinking and comprehensive qualities.

Exploring the Applications of EduCoder Platform in Blended Teaching for Computer Major

With the increasing demands of computer science-related human resources, universities have gradually adjusted the curricular scheme of undergraduate students, incorporating more computer-oriented courses, such as data mining, Python programming, and database application. Conventional off-line teaching is limited to imparting theoretical knowledge to students, failing to enhance their practical abilities, which are crucial in the realm of computer-oriented courses. Therefore, based on our practical teaching experience about data mining course, we analyze the benefits and requirements of blended teaching, then leverage the distinctive characteristics and flexible features of EduCoder platform, and propose its various application approaches for computer-related majors, encompassing three aspects, i.e., daily class management, online experiment designing, and statistical analysis of studying performance. Benefiting from these application approaches, it could reduce repeated labors, alleviate teachers’ workload, enhance teaching efficiency, and improve the overall quality of practical teaching.

The Study on AI Curriculum for Non-Computer Majors

Thanks to the advances made in the field of artificial intelligence, which is a key technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution, society is changing into one that is driven by intelligent information. In an intelligent information society, talent with digital literacy and AI literacy capabilities is needed to utilize artificial intelligence technology. Digital literacy refers to the ability to solve problems using digital technology. In this type of society, AI literacy supported by the right ethical consciousness should be cultivated in applying and utilizing AI technology. Talent with digital literacy and AI literacy capabilities is required regardless of computer-related majors, and education regarding this sort of content is required in all academic fields.<br/> Currently, at domestic SW-centered universities, non-computer major students are also being provided with essential basic education to cultivate digital literacy and AI literacy. In this paper, digital literacy and AI literacy capabilities were proposed through related research analysis and analysis of the current status of basic domestic liberal arts courses conducted for non-computer majors. In addition, through the analysis of the current curriculum, the basic curriculum that should be aimed at in the future for non-computer majors was discussed.<br/> The results of this study show that basic data for designing a curriculum for AI literacy education for non-computer majors is necessary.

Utilizing Structural Equation Modeling and Social Cognitive Career Theory to Identify Factors in Choice of IT as a Major

In the United States, the number of students entering into and completing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) areas has declined significantly over the past decade. Although modest increases have been shown in enrollments in computer-related majors in the past 4 years, the prediction is that even in 3 to 4 years when these students graduate, there will be shortages of computer-related professionals for industry. The challenge on which this article focuses is attracting students to select an information technology (IT) field such as computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or information systems as a major when many high schools do not offer a single computer course, and high school counselors, families, and friends do not provide students with accurate information about the field. The social cognitive career theory (SCCT) has been used extensively within counseling and career psychology as a method for understanding how individuals develop vocational interests, make occupational choices, and achieve success within their chosen field. In this article, the SCCT model identifies factors that specifically influence high school students to select a major in an IT-related discipline. These factors can then be used to develop new or enhance existing IT-related activities for high school students. Our work demonstrates that both interest and outcome expectations have a significant positive impact on choice to major. Interest also is found to mediate the effects of self-efficacy and outcome expectations on choice of major. Overall, the model predicts a good portion of variance in the ultimate outcome of whether or not an individual chooses to major in IT.

A LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF ENROLLMENT TRENDS AND GRADUATION GPAS FOR MEN AND WOMEN IN CIS PROGRAMS

Despite expanding opportunities, women are increasingly demonstrating a lack of interest in computer-related majors at the undergraduate level at virtually every American university. This research study focuses on enrollment characteristics of females entering computer studies (IT /IS) over a period of 12 years at a mid-sized university. The salient factors being tested by gender are the incoming SAT (Math, Verbal and Total) scores and the final outgoing GPA scores at the conclusion of the student academic experience. Thus aptitude is correlated with performance for a direct statistical comparison by gender. Pattern differences, also by gender, are examined at the enrollment stage. Additionally, salient factors such as demographic and professional characteristics, work-life balance, contextual influences, positive experiences, family and teacher influences, stereotypical connotations, prior usage, and negative life-style aspects are woven into the fabric of the research endeavor.

프로그래밍 언어들 간의 인지적인 거리측정에 관한 연구

컴퓨터관련 교육기관들은 시대의 변천에 따라 다양한 프로그래밍 언어들을 교육시켜 왔으나 많은 학생들은 컴퓨터 활용의 측면에서는 능숙하지만 프로그래밍은 배우기 어려운 분야로 인식되고 있다. 프로그래밍에 대한 거부감은 컴퓨터관련 전공에 대한 기피현상으로 이어졌고, 전 세계적으로 프로그래머 인력의 부족 문제가 대두되고 있는 설정이다. 본 연구는 프로그래밍 언어들에 대해서 프로그래머들이 지각하고 있는 언어들 간의 유사성올 조사함으로써 각 언어의 상대적인 위치를 파악하고, 좌표평면 상에 나타내어 각 차원이 의미하는 바를 추정하고 규명하였다. Although the educational institutions of computers have evolved to train students in pace with the changes of computing, many students still believe that computer programming is hard to be mastered. The reluctance of students toward programming languages have been tied to the decrease of computer-related majors and now many countries are in short of computer programmers. By investigating the similarities among eleven popular programming languages, this research is intended to measure the relative distances and understand the dimensions that scattered the languages.

Trends in Names of Undergraduate Computer-Related Majors in Aacsb-Accredited Schools of Business in the Usa

Information systems, management information systems, computer information systems, business information systems, and information technology are some of the names referring to a relatively new discipline in traditional business school offerings. Professionals and educators in this discipline want to assure that such programs continue to meet the needs of their stakeholders. As a first step in researching the trends in IS education, the authors investigated the incidence of computer-related majors in accredited business schools and their names, then compared the data with that of three years ago. The results provide evidence that although information systems programs remain common, there is no move toward standardization of the majors' names.

Women in Computer-Related Majors: A Critical Synthesis of Research and Theory From 1994 to 2005

In this article, the authors review, critique, and synthesize the emerging research literature from 1994 to 2005 on women’s enrollment and persistence in computer-related majors. A thorough examination of 44 empirical studies in scholarly journals reveals that this literature primarily relies on exploratory and descriptive analyses, individualized measures, and implicit theoretical frameworks. Findings are grouped by four themes: (a) enrollment patterns, (b) gender differences in self-confidence and performance, (c) gender differences in computer use, and (d) academic environments. An explicit gender theory of women in computing is needed to reconceptualize diverse women’s experiences and to direct future research on women’s enrollment and persistence patterns in computer fields.

Program quality with pair programming in CS1

Prior research on pair programming has found that compared to students who work alone, students who pair have shown increased confidence in their work, greater success in CS1, and greater retention in computer-related majors. In these earlier studies, pairing and solo students were not given the same programming assignments. This paper reports on a study in which this factor was controlled by giving the same programming assignments to pairing and solo students. We found that pairing students were more likely to turn in working programs, and these programs correctly implemented more required features. Our findings were mixed when we looked at some standard complexity measures of programs. An unexpected but significant finding was that pairing students were more likely to submit solutions to their programming assignments.

Pair-programming helps female computer science students

Pair-programming has been found to be very beneficial in educational settings. Students who pair in their introductory programming course are more confident, have greater course completion and pass rates, and are more likely to persist in computer-related majors. Although pairing helps all students, we believe that it is particularly beneficial for women because it addresses several significant factors that limit women's participation in computer science. We provide reasons for our belief that pair-programming helps women persist in these majors. We also repeat, with special emphasis on the impact on women, some details published elsewhere regarding our experiments on pair-programming with college and university students. Additionally, we provide new data that supports our original findings.
