Trends in Colorectal Cancer Peritoneal Metastases Research: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) stands as the third most prevalent malignancy globally and is recognized as the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Notably, nearly 50% of individuals diagnosed with CRC ultimately develop metastatic disease, with the peritoneum emerging as the second most frequent site for metastatic spread. Recent advancements in therapeutic frameworks have enhanced both survival rates and quality of life metrics for patients afflicted with colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases (CRCPM). This study endeavors to facilitate an in-depth review of the current scientific landscape surrounding CRCPM, ultimately aiming to delineate future avenues for investigative research in this realm. Employing R software through the Bibliometrix package, alongside analytical tools such as CiteSpace and VOSviewer, we performed a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. This enabled us to assess pivotal keywords, prominent authors, influential countries, notable institutions, relevant literature, and key journals pertinent to the field of CRCPM research. Our findings illustrate a significant uptick in the volume of publications addressing CRCPM, with the USA leading in overall contribution, complemented by substantial input from distinguished scholars in the Netherlands and France. The author Ignace H. J. T. de Hingh emerged as the most prolific contributor. Current research endeavors have predominantly focused on the characterization of primary malignancies with peritoneal metastases, therapeutic interventions for CRCPM, and the orchestration of clinical trials. This analysis culminates in a systematic encapsulation of the prevailing research findings concerning CRCPM, underscoring current hotspots and predicting future trends within the global research spectrum. The exploration of treatment modalities for CRCPM remains vibrant, and ongoing multicenter clinical trials are anticipated to further enrich our understanding and management of this challenging clinical issue.

Research Trends and Development Dynamics of qPCR-based Biomarkers: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis.

Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is a vital molecular technique for biomarker detection; however, its clinical application is impeded by the scarcity of robust biomarkers and the inherent limitations of the technology. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 4063 qPCR-based biomarker studies sourced from the Web of Science (WOS) database, employing VOSviewer and CiteSpace to generate multi-dimensional structural insights into this field. The results reveal a growing trend in research within this domain, with gene expression analysis playing a central role in the identification of potential biomarkers. Among these, cancer-related biomarkers are the most prominent, while research on biomarkers for other diseases remains limited. Liquid biopsy biomarkers, including microRNA (miRNA), circulating free DNA (cfDNA), and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), are increasingly being explored. The integration of bioinformatics, omics analysis, and high-throughput technologies with qPCR is accelerating biomarker discovery. Furthermore, large-scale parallel sequencing is emerging as a potential alternative to relative quantification and microarray techniques. Nevertheless, qPCR remains essential for validating specific biomarkers, and further standardization of its protocols is necessary to enhance reliability. This study provides a systematic analysis of qPCR-based biomarker research and underscores the need for future technological integration and standardization to facilitate broader clinical applications.

Future horizons: a bibliometric analysis of autonomous shipping technologies

ABSTRACT Autonomous ship technology is a transformative force in the maritime industry, poised to revolutionise maritime operations. With growing interest in this field, the number of scientific publications on autonomous shipping has surged in recent years. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on autonomous ship technologies to assist researchers in understanding current trends and future directions. Using data from 2,015 articles indexed in the Web of Science, we applied Bibliometrix (R-based) and VOSviewer software for the analysis. The results reveal a sharp increase in research activity on autonomous shipping technologies, particularly in the late 2010s, with most studies originating from researchers in the Far East and Europe. Key trending topics, such as ‘collision avoidance’ and ‘trajectory tracking’, were identified through content analysis. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for researchers and stakeholders, helping them navigate the rapidly evolving field of autonomous shipping technology.

It Is a Catch-22 Situation! A Decade of Research Trends on Gay Wellbeing in China: A Bibliometric Analysis.

The wellbeing of gay men in China is shaped by a combination of cultural, social, and political factors, yet research on this topic remains fragmented despite growing global interest in LGBTQ+ health. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research trends on wellbeing of gays (MSM) in China, using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines for a systematic search strategy and VOSviewer for bibliometric mapping. Data from Scopus were analyzed to examine publication output, top journals, and authors, along with a co-occurrence analysis of keywords and co-authorship networks across countries and authors. Results show a steady rise in publications over the past decade, particularly after 2015, revealing strong domestic collaboration and emerging international partnerships. The study identifies key contributing journals and themes, while revealing that most research remains narrowly focused on HIV/AIDS, leaving gaps in understanding gay wellbeing from broader societal and cultural perspectives. Surprisingly, very few studies specifically examine or measure overall wellbeing, whether using quantitative or qualitative approaches, and there is limited exploration of how cultural factors influence the experiences of gay men in China. These findings underscore the need for more holistic research approaches that move beyond public health and HIV prevention to address the psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of wellbeing.

Comprehensive bibliometric analysis of pharmacotherapy for bipolar disorders: Present trends and future directions.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe mental illness characterized by significant mood swings. Effective drug treatment modalities are crucial for managing BD. To analyze the current status and future trends of global research on BD drug treatment over the last decade. The Web of Science Core Collection database spanning from 2015 to 2024 was utilized to retrieve literature related to BD drug treatment. A total of 2624 articles were extracted. Data visualization and analysis were conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Pajek, Scimago Graphica, and R-studio bibliometrix to identify research hotspots, key contributors, and future trends. The United States, China, and the United Kingdom have made the most significant contributions to research on BD drug treatment and formed notable research collaboration networks. The University of Pittsburgh, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Michigan have been identified as the major research institutions in this field. The Journal of Affective Disorders is the most influential journal. A keyword analysis revealed research hotspots related to clinical symptoms, drug efficacy, and genetic mechanisms. A citation analysis identified the management guidelines published by Yatham et al in 2018 as the most cited paper. This study provides a detailed overview of the field of BD drug treatment, highlighting key contributors, research hotspots, and future directions. The study findings can be employed as a reference for future research and policymaking, which may enable further development and optimization of BD pharmacotherapy.

Inclusive and supportive aging: mental health and social care strategies for India’s elderly

Purpose As population aging accelerates globally, understanding the multifaceted needs of elderly individuals has become increasingly crucial. This paper aims to bridge significant research gaps in elderly well-being, particularly in the Indian context, by conducting a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review. While existing studies on aging primarily emphasize financial aspects like pensions and health insurance, this review identifies other essential yet underexplored dimensions impacting elderly well-being, such as emotional support, social connections, financial security beyond traditional income sources and spiritual well-being. Design/methodology/approach The data methodology for this paper involves a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The authors identified recurring themes, research gaps and emerging areas within the literature through thematic analysis. The combined insights from the bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review inform the development of a research agenda. Findings The findings of this study suggest that family and social support play an integral role in reducing loneliness, anxiety and depression among the elderly. However, urbanization and migration trends are diminishing traditional support structures. Financial security remains a concern, as many elderly individuals lack access to financial literacy resources and emergency funds, impacting their confidence and autonomy. Additionally, spiritual practices, which have shown positive correlations with mental health and cognitive function, are rarely incorporated into existing health-care programs for the elderly. Originality/value This paper provides several policy recommendations, advocating for integrating community-based social programs, financial literacy initiatives and culturally sensitive spiritual support in elderly care frameworks. These measures foster the aging population’s emotional resilience, financial independence and holistic health. Moreover, this study highlights the importance of future research focusing on specific subgroups within the elderly population, including differences by geographic location, educational background and socio-economic status. Ultimately, this research supports the development of inclusive and sustainable policies that promote health, independence and quality of life for the aging population.

Unveiling hotspots of emerging research in the miRNA-related mechanism underlying cancer through comprehensive bibliometric analysis with implications for precision medicine and non-invasive diagnostics

Background and objectiveMicroRNAs (miRNAs) are implicated in cancer by exerting roles in tumor growth, metastasis, and even drug resistance. The general trends of miRNA research in diverse cancers are not fully understood. In this work, miRNA-related research in colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, and brain tumors was analyzed in search of key research trends with clinical potential.MethodsA bibliometric analysis of articles, spanning from 2014 to 2024, was carried out with the major focus laid on four types of cancers. The Co-citation network analysis, keyword bursts, and the collaborative pattern were done in VOSviewer and CiteSpace, respectively.ResultsColorectal cancer had the highest publication volume, with research primarily focusing on gene expression, extracellular vesicles, and non-coding RNAs. Prostate cancer showed a shift toward clinical applications, while leukemia and brain tumor research, though less extensive, highlighted miRNA’s potential in early diagnosis and treatment. Co-citation analysis identified emerging research collaborations and key contributors.ConclusionmiRNA plays a pivotal role in cancer diagnosis, biomarker development, and therapeutic interventions. With advancements in non-invasive diagnostics and personalized medicine, miRNA offers significant potential for clinical applications. Future research should focus on miRNA’s role in drug resistance and combination therapies to accelerate its clinical translation.

Background Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent condition that significantly affects work productivity and quality of life. Despite advancements in treatment, LBP continues to pose a global health challenge, with increasing research on manipulative therapy as a non-invasive treatment option. This study aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research trends in manipulative therapy for LBP. Summary This study utilized the Web of Science Core Collection database to analyze global research dynamics on manipulative therapy for LBP from 1998 to 2023. A total of 2,879 articles were identified and analyzed using CiteSpace software, revealing key research trends, leading countries, and influential contributors. The analysis demonstrated that research on manipulative therapy for LBP has been steadily increasing, particularly between 2019 and 2021. The United States, the Netherlands, and Denmark were among the leading countries in this field. Core research concepts identified through keyword co-occurrence analysis include "low back pain," "manipulative therapy," and "spinal manipulation." Key Messages Manipulative therapy for LBP is a growing field with increasing global interest, particularly between 2019 and 2021. The United States, Netherlands, and Denmark are leading contributors to the research, with notable academic collaborations. Future research should focus on comparative treatment effectiveness, safety assessments, and mechanistic analyses to further validate the role of manipulative therapy in LBP management.

The research examines publication trends, author collaborations, and thematic focuses in the field. Findings reveal a significant publication growth, with a peak in 2020 followed by fluctuations in subsequent years. The analysis highlights the field’s interdisciplinary nature, with computer science and education emerging as dominant areas. Key research themes identified through co-word analysis include educational applications, technological integration, and broader societal impacts. The emergence of “AI literacy” as a significant keyword underscores the evolving nature of digital competence in the AI era. Author collaboration networks reveal established experts and researchers with strong collaborative ties, indicating a dynamic research community. The study identifies challenges and opportunities in AI for digital literacy, including ethical considerations, teacher preparation, and the potential for personalized learning. This analysis provides valuable insights into AI’s current state and future directions for digital literacy research, emphasizing the need for continued interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of inclusive AI literacy programs. The Role of Mobile Technologies in Tracking Cyberbullying Trends and Social Adaptation among Teenagers

This study aimed to investigate the role of mobile technologies in tracking cyberbullying trends and promoting social adaptation among teenagers through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. The study sought to identify key trends, influential factors, and potential intervention strategies in this rapidly evolving field. A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines was conducted, analyzing 64 documents from the Scopus database published between 2014 and 2024. The methodology employed bibliometric analysis techniques, including co-occurrence networks, bibliographic coupling, and keyword analysis. The results revealed a significant increase in research on cyberbullying and mobile technologies over the past decade. The analysis identified several prominent clusters, including the prevalence of cyberbullying, the role of social media platforms, and the effectiveness of intervention strategies. Gender and age emerged as influential factors in cyberbullying experiences and behaviors. The accessibility and ubiquity of mobile devices were found to play a crucial role in cyberbullying trends. The findings emphasize the importance of developing evidence-based approaches that leverage mobile technologies for intervention. Comprehensive educational programs and innovative approaches, such as chatbot-based coaching interventions, showed promise in reducing cyberbullying and promoting positive social adaptation. The study underscores the complex and multifaceted nature of cyberbullying, necessitating an interdisciplinary approach integrating insights from psychology, sociology, and computer science. The development of specialized assessment tools and the use of machine learning algorithms for detecting cyberbullying incidents highlight the increasing sophistication of research methodologies in this field. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies and the development of innovative, evidence-based intervention strategies.

Bibliometric and positivist analysis of the balanced scorecard perspective for redesigning business incubation services in the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Small business failure has been an enduring problem in developing economies such as South Africa. In view of this challenge and the crucial role of the small enterprises in the economy, small business incubation has widely been adopted to increase the success and viability of emerging enterprises. With the present turbulence and business model disruption that is prevailing in the business environment because of the technological revolution, the need to strengthen operations of small business incubators has become paramount. The purpose of this study was to explore the relevance of the balanced scorecard (BSC) perspective in redesigning the operations of small business incubators in South Africa. It considered the internal, learning, financial and customer perspectives on redesigning operations of small business incubators in the technological context. The methodology of this review follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Bibliometric analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. It employs an extensive search strategy across the Scopus database, rigorously applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, yielding a detailed analysis of 33 selected studies that concentrated on business incubation. This study therefore performs a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of existing literature to provide insight into publication trends, critical articles, research sponsorship contribution and the philosophy of positivism, based on an analysis of objective patterns of the reality of redesigning the operations of small business operators through the lens of the BSC. The study further adopted a quantitative approach based on a questionnaire that was issued to 250 incubators from several sectors across South Africa. The study established that the use of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies was low, and that many small business incubators were not sure how the BSC perspective could be adopted with the aid of 4IR technologies. The study noted a need for further research on technological adoption and how the implementation of the BSC can be strategically implemented to enhance operational efficiency among small business incubators.

Vegetable Fibers in Cement Composites: A Bibliometric Analysis, Current Status, and Future Outlooks.

The use of vegetable fibers (VFs) in cement-based composites has increased in recent years owing to their minimal environmental impact and notable particular properties. VFs have aroused interest within the scientific community because of their potential as a sustainable alternative for construction. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of VFs in cement composites using data from the Scopus database and scientometric tools to explore publication trends, influential sources, and research directions. Key findings reveal a steady increase in publications, with Construction and Building Materials identified as a leading journal in the field and China and Brazil as prominent contributors in terms of publications and citations. The analysis highlights a strong focus on mechanical properties and durability, reflecting the interest of the scientific community in optimizing VF composites for construction. Furthermore, this study includes a revision of the most influential studies addressing VF classification, durability improvements, and advanced applications of VFs in building applications. Finally, future research opportunities are outlined, emphasizing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), industry integration, CO2 absorption, and the application of machine learning techniques to advance the development of VF composites. This work provides a comprehensive overview of the field, suggesting future guidelines and promoting collaborative research.

Global research landscape and emerging trends of non-coding RNAs in prostate cancer: a bibliometric analysis.

Prostate cancer (PC) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men and continues to be a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. In recent years, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as a significant focus in molecular biology research, playing a pivotal role in the development and progression of PC. This study employed bibliometric analysis to explore the global outputs, research hotspots, and future trends in ncRNA-related PC research over the past 20years. Publications on PC-related ncRNAs from 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection. The co-operation network of countries, institutions, and authors on this topic was analyzed using CiteSpace (version 6.2. R6). In addition, co-occurrence analysis of keywords and co-citation analysis of references were performed using CiteSpace, and emergent detection was also performed. A total of 2,951 articles on PC-related ncRNAs were finally included in this study for analysis. China contributed the largest number of publications, while the United States was the most influential country in this field, with collaborative ties to 26 other countries. Fudan University was identified as the most active institution in this field. Rajvir Dahiya was the most prolific and influential author. Within the co-citation network, clusters labeled "EVs," "circRNA," and "ceRNA" represented current research directions. The cluster labeled "gene" dominated the co-occurrence keywords. "circRNA" showed the highest burst strength among keywords, with "circRNA," "EVs" and "exosome" maintaining sustained burst strength, suggesting these are the emerging research frontiers in this field. Investigating ncRNAs as pivotal research subjects in PC is essential for addressing the public health impact of the disease and advancing innovative diagnostic and targeted therapeutic strategies. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research related to PC-associated ncRNAs, delivering a scientific perspective and identifying potential research directions for scholars in this field.

Trends, challenges, and research pathways in emerging contaminants: a comprehensive bibliometric analysis.

The growing concern over environmental pollution has spurred extensive research into various contaminants impacting ecosystems and human health. Emerging contaminants (ECs), including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, nanomaterials, and microplastics, have garnered significant attention due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of EC research, aiming to detail the research landscape, highlight significant contributions, and identify influential researchers and pivotal studies. Data were sourced from the Web of Science, encompassing 62,670 documents from January 2000 to May 2024. Advanced bibliometric tools, including Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace, were employed to analyze publication outputs, citation metrics, and collaboration patterns. The analysis revealed an exponential increase in EC research, with annual publications growing from fewer than 1,000 before 2006 to nearly 7,000 by 2022. Environmental Science & Technology emerged as the most influential journal. Based on the number of publications and citations as a country, China and the United States led in research outputs. Co-authorship and collaboration networks highlighted key hubs and prominent researchers, with significant contributions from environmental sciences, chemical engineering, and toxicology. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified core themes, such as degradation, removal, and the impacts of ECs, reflecting evolving research interests and emerging topics. This bibliometric analysis provides valuable insights into the development and current state of EC research, serving as a resource for guiding future research efforts and fostering collaborations. The study indicates the critical need for continued research to address the challenges posed by ECs and develop effective regulatory policies and remediation strategies.

A bibliometric analysis of optic atrophy from 2003 to 2023: research trends and hot spots.

Optic atrophy (OA) is primarily caused by damage to the retinal pathway system, including widespread degeneration of retinal ganglion cells and axons, leading to visual impairment and blindness. Despite its clinical significance and diverse etiological factors, there is currently a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analyses exploring research trends and hotspots within this field. This study retrieved relevant literature on OA published between 2003 and 2023 from the Web of Science Core Collection database. We conducted a bibliometric analysis using tools such as CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and SCImago Graphica to examine annual publication trends, co-occurrence patterns, collaborative networks among countries and institutions, and the evolution of research hotspots of OA. A total of 5,274 publications were included in the bibliometric analysis, comprising 4,561 research articles and 713 review articles. The United States emerged as the leading country in OA research, followed by Germany and China. Over the past two decades, the primary research hotspots focused on "mitochondrial dysfunction," "hereditary optic neuropathy," "ocular hypertension" and "diagnostic techniques." Future research trends are likely to revolve around "molecular mechanisms" and "therapeutic targets." This bibliometric analysis provides an overview of research developments in OA over the past 20 years, highlighting the emphasis on the pathological basis of OA and advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Future studies should continue to explore the molecular basis of mitochondrial dysfunction to identify potential gene therapy targets for treating OA.

A comprehensive bibliometric analysis on social network anonymization: current approaches and future directions

AbstractIn recent decades, social network anonymization has become a crucial research field due to its pivotal role in preserving users' privacy. However, the high diversity of approaches introduced in relevant studies poses a challenge to gaining a profound understanding of the field. In response to this, the current study presents an exhaustive and well-structured bibliometric analysis of the social network anonymization field. To begin our research, related studies from the period of 2007–2022 were collected from the Scopus Database and then preprocessed. Following this, the VOSviewer was used to visualize the network of authors’ keywords. Subsequently, extensive statistical and network analyses were performed to identify the most prominent keywords and trending topics. Additionally, the application of co-word analysis through SciMAT and the Alluvial diagram allowed us to explore the themes of social network anonymization and scrutinize their evolution over time. These analyses culminated in an innovative taxonomy of the existing approaches and anticipation of potential trends in this domain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first bibliometric analysis in the social network anonymization field, which offers a deeper understanding of the current state and an insightful roadmap for future research in this domain.

Metabolic response to burn injury: a comprehensive bibliometric study.

Burns lead to systemic changes manifested by systemic disturbances in water-electrolyte balance and systemic metabolic and inflammatory responses. The hypermetabolic response after a burn injury relies on metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory dysregulation mechanisms. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the burn metabolism research field, identifying key trends, influential contributors, and emerging research hotspots to inform future investigative efforts. Ultimately, we conducted an extensive review of the literature, synthesizing the findings to clarify the present understanding within our field of study. We obtained 8,823 scientific publications on burn injury and metabolism from the core Web of Science (WOS) database collection. In this work, biblioshiny was used to visualize and analyze the data, and VOSviewer was used to verify the results. From a total of 8,823 publications, we found a general upward trend in annual publications and citation frequency. According to Bradford's Law, 21 high-production journals were classified as core sources based on the number of publications, and the most productive journal was Burns. The most published countries and authors in this field were the United States and Herndon DN. The most local cited document in this field was the article titled "Catecholamines: Mediator of the Hypermetabolic Response to Thermal Injury" authored by Wilmore DW. The thematic map showed that studies on injury, thermal injury, and sepsis were relatively mature. In contrast, research on metabolism, stress, and responses, and research on mortality, resistance, and management were less well-developed but were essential for the field. Research on burns and metabolism is increasing. Based on the bibliometric analysis, our study summarized the complex interplay between burn-induced systemic metabolic alterations and inflammatory responses, emphasizing the significance of hypermetabolism and its management. The role of propranolol, insulin, oxandrolone, and nutritional interventions in modulating the hypermetabolic state was discussed. Additionally, our study underscored the challenges of managing sepsis and drug-resistant infections in burn patients as an important future area of research.
