Pedagogical Facilitation of Cognitive Development in Early Childhood

The paper gives backed-with-arguments reasons for systematic and purposeful facilitation of children’s cognitive development through adequate didactic tools guaranteeing the quality of future interactive learning. The theoretical knowledge of the phenomenological parameters of pedagogical facilitation in the discourse of early childhood education is supplemented. Emphasis is placed on the need to apply technologies facilitating the development of children’s competencies to explore environment as a children’s sovereign right to actively acquire knowledge in the context of subjective valuable meaningful activities. Early childhood development is crucial in a child's life. One of them is by stimulating children through the number bottle educational game tool. These educational game tools can develop fine motor and cognitive development in early childhood. The purpose of this community service activity is to assist in utilizing the number bottle educational game tool in stimulating early childhood development in Yasalmuna Palangka Raya Islamic Kindergarten. The method used is the service learning method through lectures and demonstrations. The subjects in the activity were 17 students at Yasalmuna Palangka Raya Islamic Kindergarten. The result of this activity is that children can demonstrate the number bottle educational game tool well. In addition, children's abilities in fine motor and cognitive development can also be seen.

THE IMPACT OF GAME-BASED LEARNING ON COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

This study aims to investigate the impact of game-based learning on cognitive development in early childhood through a literature review. Game-based learning has become a major focus in early childhood education because of its potential to stimulate children's cognitive development. Through a comprehensive literature review, this article describes various findings from previous research that reveal the impact of game-based learning on cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, critical thinking skills, conceptual understanding, and flexible thinking abilities in early childhood. These findings provide insight into how this learning approach can influence children's cognitive development at an early stage in their lives. Practical implications and future research directions are also discussed in this article. Thus, this article provides a better understanding of the importance of integrating play-based learning in early childhood education curricula to improve children's cognitive development.

Nutritional Status on the Cognitive Development of Early Childhood (5-6 Years) at TKQ/TPQ Al hafiz Medan

Research purposes are analyzing nutritional status, stimulation, psychosocial factors, and influencing factors in cognitive development in preschool children. Nutritional status of toddlers showed that 15.5% of toddlers were underweight, 5.2% were underweight, 3.4% were severely underweight, and 19% of children entered the categories of short and very short (stunted). Regression results gradually show that stimulation psychosocial (P<0.001), participation in early childhood education (P = 0.002), and nutritional status based on index height against age (P = 0.028) had an effect positive and significant on the development of cognitive child preschool (adjusted R2, 0.434; P = 0.028).

The method used in this research is a qualitative approach. Then the data collection techniques used were observation and literature study. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results of the research show that learning the art of music is very important and has an influence on children in their development process and from the results of research at the Karya Bunda Mandiri Kindergarten in Medan, teachers have implemented early childhood education music learning well and in fun and can improve children's cognitive abilities because in teacher learning always uses singing and clapping to teach new things in learning at Karya Bunda Mandiri Kindergarten.

Promoting social, emotional, and cognitive development in early childhood: A protocol for early valuation of a culturally adapted digital tool for supporting optimal childrearing practices.

The Thrive by Five app promotes positive interactions between children and parents, extended family, and trusted community members that support optimal socio-emotional and cognitive development in the early years. This article aims to describe the protocol for a prospective mixed-methods multi-site study evaluating Thrive by Five using surveys, interviews, workshops, audio diaries from citizen ethnographers and app usage data. The study activities and timelines differ by site, with an extensive longitudinal evaluation being conducted at two sites and a basic evaluation being conducted at five sites. The learnings from the more comprehensive evaluations inform the iterative research and development processes while also ensuring ongoing evaluation of usability, acceptability and effectiveness of the app and its content across varying contexts. The study evaluates: (1) the impact of the Thrive by Five content on caregiver knowledge, behaviours, attitudes and confidence; (2) how the content changes relationships at the familial, community and system level; (3) how cultural and contextual factors influence content engagement and effectiveness and (4) the processes that facilitate or disrupt the success of the implementation and dissemination. All in-country partners have been identified and data collection has been completed in Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Namibia and Cameroon. Very few digital health solutions have been trialled for usability and effectiveness in diverse cultural contexts. By combining quantitative, qualitative, process and ethnographic methodologies, this innovative study informs the iterative and ongoing optimisation of the cultural and contextual sensitivity of the Thrive by Five content and the processes supporting implementation and dissemination.

The influence of gadget usage and maternal attachment on the cognitive and motor development of early childhood in Situbondo Regency

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of device use and maternal bonding on early childhood cognitive and motor development in Situbondo Regency. In this research, the sample used was 311 respondents using quantitative methods. The multiple linear regression analysis technique was carried out using SPSS version 22 software. The data collection technique used in this research was observation, interviews, filling out Google forms and also direct questionnaires. The results of this research show a partial contribution, namely between the use of gadgets on cognitive development in early childhood, there is a partial contribution, namely between maternal attachment to cognitive development in early childhood, then there is a partial contribution between the use of gadgets and motor development in early childhood. , while there is no partial contribution of maternal attachment to motor development in early childhood. The use of devices in early childhood requires care and supervision, and also the mother’s role in the operation, as overuse of the device by the child can lead to addiction to playing with the device. This negatively affects the child’s growth and development process, especially the development of cognitive and motor skills. This study aims to investigate the improvement of cognitive abilities in early childhood by utilizing the educational game "Word Box." The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection methods including Documentation, Interviews, and Observations. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that the utilization of the educational game "Word Box" has a positive impact on the cognitive development of children through their interaction with the game. There is a significant improvement in cognitive aspects, such as memory skills, understanding, and language usage in children.

The Influence of Audio Stories on Enhancing Digital Literacy In Early Childhood: A Survey Study

Digital literacy in children is the ability to understand information from the various information they receive. Introducing digital literacy to children is very important, in this era children use digital technology more often. Therefore, it is important for parents to ensure that children have a good understanding of how to use technology properly and that it can be used in positive activities. The aim of this research is to find out how to use audio stories to improve digital literacy skills in children. This research can also see how parents participate in introducing digital literacy to children, this media can help children develop developmental aspects in children. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this research provide important knowledge about research developments related to the development of digital literacy. Children can understand listening and improving words, retelling and most importantly children can express what is on their mind and use language that is easy for children and other people to understand. Researchers can conclude that it is very important to instill digital literacy in children from a young age because this development is very important to be instilled from a young age, this development is very influential on cognitive development in early childhood.

Pengaruh Permainan Ular Tangga Terhadap Kemampuan Kognitif Anak Usia 5-6 Tahun di TK Bintang Pertiwi, Batam – Kepulauan Riau

Playing for children is a necessity like food, of course games are needed that lead children to achieve something that is useful for them in the future. Educational games are consciously designed to provide developmental benefits, but are they beneficial for children's cognitive development? This research will of course look at how children's cognitive development occurs by using the educational game Snakes and Ladders. This research was carried out in two cycles and each cycle held two meetings. This research was carried out at Bintang Pertiwi Kindergarten, Batam with research subjects being Group B aged 5-6 years, totaling 28 people. Data collection in this research used observation and documentation techniques. As many as 72% of children are in the BSH category after following a series of cycles, 17% of children are in the BSB category and only 11% are still in the MB category. Positive spike values were achieved by the subject from pre-cycle to cycle II, a progressive and consistent increase. During these cycles, it was concluded that the educational game snakes and ladders could stimulate the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years at the Bintang Pertiwi Kindergarten Batam - Riau Islands. The implication of this research is that educational games really help the learning process and also the child's development process, especially cognitive development. So, it is hoped that PAUD teachers will be more creative in developing media to optimize the cognitive development of early childhood.

The Relationship of Playing Ball Bekel Method on Improving Cognitive Development in Early Childhood

Background: children must remember information in the learning process in class, because it still often comes from the teacher, and this causes children to be lazy in thinking skills and when solving problems less than ideal. Teachers rarely use interesting media such as playing methods that make children not interested in following the learning process.Purpose: this study aims to determine the relationship of the bekel ball playing method on increasing cognitive development in early childhood.Methods: the research method used is analytic method with cross sectional approach. The population used in this study were all 41 children of Dewi Sartika 3 Kindergarten. The sampling technique used was a accidental sampling method of 30 people. Data were analyzed using the chi-square computerized technique and the research instruments used observation sheets and bekel balls .Results: the results showed that there was an effect of the bekel ball playing method on increasing cognitive development in early childhood at Dewi Sartika 3 Kindergarten because the p value < (0.02 < 0.05).Conclusion: the conclusion in this study is that there is an relationship of the bekel ball playing method on increasing cognitive development in early childhood at Dewi Sartika 3 Kindergarten.

Composite Index of Anthropometric Failure and Early Childhood Cognitive Development Based on the 2018 Indonesian Basic Health Research Data

Delays in early childhood cognitive development may have profound long-term implications on health and life expectancy. Optimal nutrition supports early life development, including a child's cognitive development. This study aimed to determine the association between the Composite Index of Anthropometric Failure and early childhood cognitive development among children aged 36-59 months in Indonesia. This cross-sectional study utilized data from the 2018 Indonesian Basic Health Research that involved 18,027 participants aged 36-59 months. This study outcome demonstrated that children who were stunted-underweight were potentially susceptible to delayed cognitive development compared to those with normal nutritional status (aOR = 1.30; 95% CI 1.12-1.51) after controlling for child’s age, sex, vitamin A supplementation, antenatal care visits, gestational age, access to drinking water and sanitation (combined risk), maternal education and mental health (combined risk), maternal occupation and number of household members (combined risk). In summary, malnourished children are vulnerable to impaired physical growth and potential delays inearly cognitive development.

Parents' Knowledge and Application of Environmental Interventions for Enhancing Cognitive Development in Early Childhood: A Qualitative Study

Purpose: This research aimed to investigate the knowledge and application of environmental interventions among parents to enhance cognitive development in children with disabilities during early childhood. Methodology/design/approach: Employing a qualitative approach, the study utilized semi-structured individual interviews to collect data from a sample of eight participant parents. The collected data underwent rigorous analysis, focusing on key themes. Results and Conclusions: The findings revealed a notable discrepancy in parents' understanding of environmental interventions, including early intervention and socialization. It also identified that while some parents implemented interventions such as cognitive stimulation and good nutrition, they did so without prior knowledge of their significance. Several factors were found to influence parents' application of these interventions, including self-development, consultation with specialists, and support groups. Conversely, some parents were aware of the importance of these interventions but faced various challenges, such as familial, child-related, and societal obstacles, which hindered their implementation. Comprehensive family and psychological support should be provided to address these challenges effectively. Recommendations: The researchers recommend organizing training workshops for parents to enhance their expertise in environmental interventions that promote cognitive development, ultimately facilitating the overall growth and development of children with disabilities.

The Effect of Early Numerical Literacy on Early Childhood Cognitive Development

The development of the times with increasingly advanced technology requires today’s people to be able to be literate in numeracy and master it. The low numeracy literacy activity in adults indicates a lack of stimulation given early on. Penggunaan Sempoa Untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berhitung Dengan Media Puzzle

Introduction: Counting is a part of mathematics that has an important role in early childhood cognitive development. in learning to count many students feel bored as a result it will interfere with concentration. In minimizing the saturation, counting can be done by using media or tools such as an abacus. Objective: The purpose of this service was To improve basic arithmetic skills in the form of addition, withdrawal, addition and division in grades II and III elementary school students using an abacus media packed with puzzles. Method: This public service was conducted by 5 students, who served as facilitators with the dedication method using education or health counseling about the use of the abacus in improving students' numeracy skills using puzzle media. the target of this counseling is grade II and grade III elementary school students. The counseling activity begins with the pre-test, then the provision of material, after that a post-test is given which ends with an evaluation and a question and answer session. Result: The result of this service is that students are able to operate the beads on the abacus, students are able to understand the concept of reading single or tens of beads on the abacus, students are able to solve advanced story questions and divide using the abacus. Conclusion: The conclusion from the implementation of this community service is counseling about the use of the abacus in improving students' numeracy skills using puzzle media, having a positive effect on students. Associations of screen use with cognitive development in early childhood: the ELFE birth cohort.

The associations of screen use with children's cognition are not well evidenced and recent, large, longitudinal studies are needed. We aimed to assess the associations between screen use and cognitive development in the French nationwide birth cohort. Time and context of screen use were reported by parents at ages 2, 3.5 and 5.5. Vocabulary, non-verbal reasoning and general cognitive development were assessed with the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory (MB) at age 2, the Picture Similarities subtest from the British Ability Scales (PS) at age 3.5 and the Child Development Inventory (CDI) at ages 3.5 and 5.5. Outcome variables were age-adjusted and standardized (mean = 100, SD = 15). Multiple imputations were performed among children (N = 13,763) with ≥1 screen use information and ≥1 cognitive measures. Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between screen use and cognitive development were assessed by linear regression models adjusted for sociodemographic and birth factors related to the family and children, and children's lifestyle factors competing with screen use. Baseline cognitive scores were further considered in longitudinal analysis. TV-on during family meals at age 2, not screen time, was associated with lower MB scores at age 2 (β [95% CI] = -1.67 [-2.21, -1.13]) and CDI scores at age 3.5 (-0.82 [-1.31, -0.33]). In cross-sectional analysis, screen time was negatively associated with CDI scores at ages 3.5 (-0.67 [-0.94, -0.40]) and 5.5 (-0.47 [-0.77, -0.16]), and, in contrast, was positively associated with PS scores (0.39 [0.07, 0.71]) at age 3.5. Screen time at age 3.5 years was not associated with CDI scores at age 5.5 years. Our study found weak associations of screen use with cognition after controlling for sociodemographic and children's birth factors and lifestyle confounders, and suggests that the context of screen use matters, not solely screen time, in children's cognitive development.
