Yield Gap Analysis and Impact Assessment of Rapeseed- Mustard through Cluster Front Line Demonstrations in Khowai District of Tripura, India

The present study was carried out by KVK Khowai Tripura to know the yield gaps between improved practices under frontline demonstration and farmers practice of rapeseed- mustard crops. The productivity ranged from 8.00 to 10.50 q/ ha with average yield under demonstration recorded 9.24 q/ ha under improved technology on farmers field as against a yield ranged from 5.50 to 6.50 q/ ha with a mean of 5.88 q/ ha recorded under farmers practice. However, in the demonstration plot the yield enhancement due to technological intervention was 36.21% over the farmers practice. An average net returns of Rs 18,644/- at demonstrations plot, while the average net returns from farmers practice is Rs 7046/-. The additional cost of Rs 5565/- gave additional net return; it is Rs. 11,510/- per hectare, respectively. The increase benefit cost ratio was also estimated; it ranged from 1.38 to 1.87 in recommended practices and 1.22 to 1.47 in farmers practice. An extension gap of 3.36 q/ ha was found between demonstrated technology and farmers practice, technology gap was observed 3.23 q/ ha, whereas technology index 24.86%. Therefore, CFLD of rapeseed- mustard was an effective for increasing the productivity and cropping intensity (%) of rapeseed- mustard and changing the knowledge, attitude and skill of the farmers. This created greater awareness and motivated the other farmers to adopt improved practices of rapeseed- mustard.

Assessing the Performance of Chickpea Cultivars in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh, India

This study assessed the yield gaps of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh where a total of 240 trials on improved chickpea cultivars viz. GNG 1581, GPF 2 and Himachal Chana 2 along with best practices were conducted by KVK in Mandi for three consecutive years under the Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLDs) program during Rabi 2015-16 to Rabi 2017-18. The study revealed that the demonstration yield of chickpea cultivars viz. GNG 1581, GPF 2 and Himachal Chana 2 were significantly better than the farmer's practice. Overall, a seed yield of 616 kg ha-1 was achieved in the three years of data collected in the demonstration plot, which was 40.32 percent higher than the farmer's practice. The technology and extension gap in the data collected under the three-year CFLDs program were 1546.5 kg ha–1 and 177 kg ha–1 respectively. The improved technology package not only improved water use efficiency, chickpea profitability in terms of gross and net returns, but also improved the benefit-cost ratio (BC). The overall technology index of 71.51 percent revealed a satisfactory performance of technology interventions, which can be further strengthened in the region by bridging the gaps through more effective research and extension services.

Performance of sesame variety YLM-66 (SARADA) under Cluster FrontlineDemonstrations in Andhra Pradesh

A total of 1530 Cluster frontline demonstrations were conducted in farmers’ fields with sesame variety YLM-66. The demonstration yields with YLM-66 and recommended package of practices ranged between 7.37 q ha-1 to 8.13q ha-1 with average yield of 7.71 q ha-1 which was 30.08% higher than the farmer’s practice (5.93 q ha-1). The average net returns of 39201 Rs. ha-1 and benefit cost ratio of 2.81 were recorded with improved technology against net returns of 26573 Rs. ha-1 and benefit cost ratio of 2.34 in farmers’ practice.

Yield Gap Analysis of Field Pea (Pisum sativum L.) through Cluster Front Line Demonstration under NFSM Pulses Scheme in Khowai District, Tripura, India

Enhancing the production potential and socio- economic level of farmers, altogether 325 front line demonstrations on field pea were laid out comprising 325 farmers covering the total area 160 ha with demonstration plots ranging from 0.20 to 1.0 ha during the year 2015- 16 to 2022- 23 in 14 different villages of Khowai district of Tripura to disseminate the production technology of improved varieties viz., Malviya Matar- 15 (HUDP- 15), Prakash (IPFD 1-10), Aman (IPF 5-19). Field diagnostic visits, regular inspection, farmer’s trainings, group discussion, field days ensured application of balanced and optimum doses of nutrient, and timely plant protection measures. The productivity ranged from 11.50 to 13.50 q/ ha with average yield under demonstration recorded 12.21 q/ ha under improved technology on farmers field as against a yield ranged from 6.75 to 8.50 q/ ha with a mean of 7.52 q/ ha recorded under farmers practice. However, in the demonstration plot the yield enhancement due to technological intervention was 62.15% over the farmer’s practice. An average net returns of Rs 24,441/- at demonstrations plot, while the average net returns from farmers practice is Rs 7218. The additional cost of Rs 5440 gave additional net return of Rs. 17,223/ ha. The increased cost benefit ratio was also estimated; it ranged from 1.56 to 1.97 in recommended practices and 1.11 to 1.36 in farmers practice. An extension gap of 4.69 q/ ha was found between demonstrated technology and farmers practice, technology gap being observed 12.41 q/ ha, whereas technology index 49.87%. Therefore, cluster front line demonstration of field pea was effective for increasing the productivity of field pea and changing the knowledge, attitude and skill of the farmers. This created greater awareness and motivated the other farmers to adopt improved practices of field pea.

Enhancing Sesame Productivity and Profitability with Cluster Front Line Demonstrations in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore District, India

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the most important oil crops grown in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh along with groundnut. Sesame productivity in the district is low and efforts have been made to increase productivity and area by using high-yielding varieties along with integrated crop management (ICM) practices. In the farmer's field, ICM practices like sowing of improved variety (YLM 66), seed treatment, providing sticky traps to monitor sucking pest vectors, application of neem oil at flowering, spraying of monocrotophos at capsule development stage are used. Insect control and carbendazim spray for leaf spot control have been demonstrated. The results showed that in 2021-22 and 2022-23, seed yield improved by 9.9 and 11.2 percent compared to farmers' practices. Economically, demonstration practices have been found to produce higher net profit per hectare over the years compared to farmer practices. In 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, the B:C ratio was 2.76 and 3.08. To increase oilseed production, farmers in Nellore should adopt economically viable techniques based on the technology rate percentage, which ranges from 21.0% to 27.0%.

Pulse Productivity and Profitability as Influenced by Cluster Frontline Demonstrations in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir, India

The cluster frontline demonstrations (CFLDs) on Rajmash and Greengram were conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kupwara, J&K at farmers’ fields during the year 2021. Through farmer meetings and group discussions, the crucial inputs in the production technology were identified. The results for Rajmash and Greengram showed that overall yield trends of demonstrations varied from 7.00 q/ha to 11 q/ha and 6.00 q/ha to 9.00 q/ha, respectively, with yield increase of 57.14% and 50% over the yield of local practices. Due to significant heterogeneity in the extent of adoption of recommended technology based on the level of risk associated in terms of cost,convenience, skill, and information regarding the concerned practise, the yield levels were much lower under local practices. Rajmash and greengram's average extension gap, technology gap, and technology index, respectively, were found to be 4.00, 1.00 q/ha and 8.33 percent and 3.00, 1 q/ha and 10.00 percent. The demonstration's average gross and net returns for the rajmash and greengram crops, respectively, were 44.44 and 145.33 percent, 70.00 and 289.55 percent greater than the farmer’s practices. In rajmash and greengram, the average benefit-cost ratio was higher with 44 and 145 percent respectively. Variations in agro-climatic factors, soil fertility, biotic stresses, economic status, and management practices were found to cause variations in the technology gap and index percentage. By encouraging farmers to use sustainable technical practices for increasing the yield and productivity of pulse crops, this variation can be reduced. With the application of pesticide, the performance of enhanced technology was shown to be most successful in controlling the smallest number of afflicted plants/m2 as well as the smallest number of pods/plants. Under demonstrations, production was higher than local practice. In order to increase the area and production of pulses in the Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir, pulse production and protection technology has a wide range of potential applications.

Impact of Cluster front-line Demonstrations on Productivity and Economics of Groundnut in Southern Transition Agro Climatic Zone (Zone-7) of Hassan District, Karnataka, India

Groundnut is a important commercial legume cum oilseed crop growing in Hassan district of Karnataka and there is a notable yield gaps found between the farmers and demonstration plots due to non adoption of improved agronomic technological practices and use of local varieties. Integrated crop management (ICM) practices in groundnut under cluster front-line demonstration were conducted by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hassan during Summer seasons of 2018-19 to 2022with active participation of 250 groundnut growers with a objective of practicing improved agronomic practices over a 100 ha area in 5 consecutive years.The highest groundnut pod yield was achieved in demonstration plots with an mean of 1842.8kg/ha as compared to farmers practices with an mean of 1254.80kg/ha; which was 22.24 per cent higher yield as compared to farmers practices. The demonstration plots average mean of extension gap, technology gap and technology index were calculated as 281.20 kg/ha, 564 kg/ha, 26.75 per cent, respectively. The higher mean net returns of 62592.60/ha with B:C ratio of 2.35 was exhibited in improved agronomic practices demonstrated plot as compared to local practices (Rs.43897.60/ha). So it’s concluded that improved agronomic technological practices have high potential to increase the groundnut productivity through cluster front-line demonstration.

Enhancing Production of Berseem through Integrated Crop Management Practices in Haryana

Background: Berseem plays an important role as fodder, in the health and nutrition of a large livestock population in India. The productivity of green fodder per unit area could be increased by adopting recommended scientific and sustainable packages and practices. Methods: Farmers’ participatory front line demonstrations on integrated crop management (ICM) practices and traditional method of sowing as farmers’ practice (FP) were conducted during Rabi (2016-17 to 2018-19) under CCS, HAU, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehabad and Jhajjar, Haryana. Result: The study reveals that on an average 744 q/ha green fodder yield of berseem (var. HB 2) was recorded under ICM as compare to 659 q/ha in FP which was 12.9 per cent higher over that of the FP. The pooled value of extension gap, technology gap and technology index was to the tune of 85, 36 q/ha and 4.6 percent, respectively. The data on economic parameters reveals that a net return of Rs. 30441 per ha was recorded under ICM compare to Rs. 20065 per ha in FP. The benefit-cost (B:C) ratio was figured 1:1.50 and 1:1.33 in ICM and FP, respectively, suggesting its higher profitability and economic viability of the technology demonstrated. Cluster Front line demonstration also helped in replacement of local varieties with improved recommended varieties.

An Appraisal of Technological Interventions on Mustard Crop under Cluster Front Line Demonstrations

Aims: To boost production and profitability, The current study's evaluation of technical interventions focused on a cluster front line demonstration on mustard crop, which was carried out in the KVK's operational territory in district Bhadohi of Uttar Pradesh.
 Study Design: Yield gap analysis under cluster front line demonstration.
 Place and Duration of Study: The present study was conducted by ICAR-IIVR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhadohi on mustard at farmer’s field in different blocks of Bhadohi district under cluster front line demonstration during the period 2016-17 to 2020-21.
 Methodology: From 2016-17 through 2020-21, 374 demonstrations were carried out on farmer fields totaling 153 hectares under cluster front line demonstration, with farmer practice acting as the comparison control. KVK scientists collected yield, production expenses, and return data from farmers' practice plots (control plots) and front-line demonstration plots. Finally, the extension gap, technology gap, and technology index were calculated using the methods describe in Samui et al. [1].
 Results: The five-year study's findings show that the demonstration plots' average annual yield was 24.20 q/ha in compared to the traditional agricultural plots' average annual yield of 17.26 q/ha. This higher yield of 4.85 q/ha and the 40.12% rise in mustard productivity over the previous five years may be enough to meet the state's current needs for oilseeds. The five-year averages for the technology gap, extension gap, and technology index were found to be 5.8 q/ha, 6.8 q/ha, and 19.35%, respectively. The finding unequivocally shows that CFLDs have advantages over conventional practices. The technology gap, extension gap, and technology index five-year averages were determined to be 5.8 q/ha, 6.8 q/ha, and 19.35%, respectively. Under the demonstration plot, the Benefit Cost Ratio was shown to be greatest (3.0) during the study year 2017-18 and lowest (2.24) during the study year 2019-20, but it averaged 2.65 during the five-year study period. As a result, positive benefit-cost ratios established the economic sustainability of the interventions and persuaded farmers in the Uttar Pradesh area of Bhadohi of their worth.
 Conclusion: According to the findings of the five-year study, the demonstration plots' pooled five-year average production was 24.20 q/ha as opposed to the traditional farmer practices plots' 17.26 q/ha. This enhanced yield of 4.85 q/ha and the 40.12% rise in mustard productivity over the previous five years, may be helpful meet to the state's current needs for oilseeds. The finding unequivocally shows that CFLDs have advantages over conventional practices. During the years of investigation, it was shown that the benefit-cost ratio was higher when agricultural practices were demonstrated. According to the result it is concluded that the yield and net profit may be increase using HYV RH-749 with the recommended packages of practices in mustard crop.

Impact of Technological Interventions on Pigeon Pea for Enhancing Income through Cluster Front Line Demonstrations

Aims: The area and production of pigeon pea in Bhadohi are still significantly lower than in other districts of other states. There is a significant yield gap between the potential output and the yield under current farming conditions. To study the impact of technological interventions on the pigeon pea crop for increasing income through Cluster Front Line Demonstrations was the goal of the current study.
 Place and Duration of Study: Cluster front line demonstrations on improved pigeon pea technologies were carried out by ICAR-IIVR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhadohi, at farmers' fields from 2015–16 to 2019–20.
 Methodology: A total of 155 pigeon pea cluster front line demonstrations on improved pigeon pea technologies covering a 45.70 hectare area were held in one hundred eighteen localities. Field days, training and group meetings were also organized to provide opportunities for other farmers to witness the benefits of demonstrated technologies. The output data were collected from CFLD plots as well as control plots (farmers practice) by random crop cutting method and analyzed using simple statistical tools such as per cent change in yield, cost of cultivation, net income, and benefit cost ratio etc. 
 Results: In the experimental plots, the mean yield over five years was 15.44 q/ha, while it was only 11.21 q/ha in the control plots. Over the course of the five years of the study, the yield development varied, though on average, it was measured at 42.49 percent. When compared to the farmer's practice (28,463/ha), the average net return for the demonstration plots at the farmer's field over the investigation period was greater at 56,611/ha. Additionally, the demonstration plots' benefit-cost ratio was larger (2.32) than the farmer's practice's (1.69).
 Conclusion: From the aforementioned findings, it can be concluded that using modern technologies for pigeon pea cultivation may significantly close the extension and technology gap, increasing pigeon pea yield in the area. It requires collaborative extension efforts to enhance the adoption of location and crop specific technologies among the farmers to bridge these gaps.

Constraints Faced by the Groundnut Growers in Adoption of Cluster Frontline Demonstration of Villupuram District

India is one of the largest producers of oilseeds in the world and occupies an important position in the Indian agricultural economy. The productivity of groundnut farming is currently declining due to pest and disease attacks, use of old and traditional low-yielding varieties. To tackle the issues demonstrations on cluster mode are essential. Cluster Frontline Demonstration (CFLD) is conducted by Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) and scientists in a systemic manner on selected farmers field to spread the new variety and groundnut production technologies. The ICAR- KVK, Tindivanam had organized CFLDs on groundnut crop in two villages viz., Nolambur and Kilmavilangai. Therefore, the study aimed to know the profile characteristics of CFLD beneficiary farmers and to encounter the major constraints faced by groundnut growers. To get an adequate sample size, 60 CFLD beneficiaries were selected randomly for the present study. The data were collected by using a pre-tested interview schedule. Garrett’s ranking technique and percentage analysis were used to analyze the data for meaning interpretation. The majority of beneficiaries belonged to middle age category (61.66%), majority of male beneficiaries (80.00%), educated upto middle school (40.00%), land holdings of 1 to 2 ha (68.33%) as small land, 20- 30 years of farming experience in oilseeds (80.00%), participated in one training (66.67%), medium level of extension agency contact (66.67%) and mass media exposure (56.67%), 55 per cent of farmers were adopted new practices after the successful adoption of other members. The major constraints include poor labour availability, poor transport facilities, lack of proper marketing channels and lack of technical knowledge. Hence, CFLD showed that medium to high level profile characteristics and improved adoption of new technologies.

Impact of Cluster Front Line Demonstrations on Productivity, Profitability and Yield Gap of Blackgram in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh, India

The Cluster Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDs) on Blackgram var. TBG-104 was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nellore to find out the seed yield, technological gap, extension gap, technology index and economics during 2020 to 2022 (3 years) covering 150 farmers. The result of the study revealed that the yield of blackgram was found to be 953, 1000 and 1103 kg/ha during the years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively as compared to 752, 760 and 900 kg/ha, respectively under the farmer's practice. The increase in yield over farmers practice was found to be 25.1, 33.4 and 22.6% respectively during the years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23. The 3-year average data on the technology gap, extension gap and technology index were found to be 980 kg/ha, 215 kg/ha and 49% respectively. The average net return and B:C ratio in demonstrations was found to be Rs. 27439.00 /ha and 1.79 as against Rs.13334 and 1.38 in farmer’s practice. The findings show that utilising TBG 104 over farmer’s varieties could increase the seed output of Blackgram in the Nellore district and CFLD could be a useful method to reduce yield disparities.

Impact of Front Line Demonstrations on Mustard Productivity and Profitability in Shivpuri District of Madhya Pradesh, India

The study was carried out during 2017-18 to assess the impact of Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on production and productivity enhancement of mustard crops. RVSKVV, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shivpuri conducted a total of 75 demonstrations in selected clusters with GPS locations over an area of 30 ha in district Shivpuri of Madhya Pradesh. The yield performance data and economics of demonstration and farmer’s practice plots were compiled and analyzed for calculation of gap analysis, costs and returns. The critical inputs were identified in existing production technology through personal interaction, group meetings and discussions with farmers and KVK Scientists team. The improved technologies consisting improved variety, soil testing, seed treatment mechanized sowing, integrated nutrient and weed management, and pest and disease management. The average yield of improved technology demonstrations and farmers' practices were recorded as 17.80 q/ha and 14.40q/ha respectively. Overall, the 19.10 per cent increase in yield was found in demonstration plots over check plots. The average of the technology gap, extension gap, technology index and additional return were found as 2.20q/ha, 3.40 q/ha, 11 percent and Rs.11420/ha respectively. An average net return ofRs.42140/ha was found in demonstration plots as compared to Rs.30720/ha in farmers' practices and an average B:C ratio of 2.65 and 2.28 were recorded in demonstrated and farmers practices plots respectively. The higher yield and returns in demonstrations indicated that production and productivity of mustard at farmer’s fields increased by adopting improved technologies. The results revealed that the CFLDs by interventions of scientific technologies gave positive effects on production and productivity in mustard crop cultivation.

Role of Cluster Demonstration in Enhancement of Soybean Production in Ratlam District of Madhya Pradesh

Background: Soybean (Glysin max L.) is one of the most important oil seed cum pulse crop cultivated in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. The present investigation was carried out at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ratlam during kharif 2021-22 and 2022-23, to demonstrate the improved variety JS-2029 and RVS 2001-4 with the scientific package and practices to improve the production of soybean. Methods: The present research of Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) was conduct during kharif season 2021-22 and 2022-23 by KVK Ratlam, under rained condition. An extensive survey was conducted to collect in sequence from preferred farmers to give them enhanced package of put into practice. Privileged position performance was utilized to categorize the constraint faced by the farmers in soybean crop growing. Based on the evils face by the farmers, the cluster frontline demonstrations were designed. Result: In conclusion, potential yield of variety can be achieved by imparting scientific knowledge to the farmers, providing need based quality inputs in due time and proper and timely application of inputs. The average yield of demonstrated technology (18.95 q/ha) was higher than of local check (15.87 q/ha).

Boosting Productivity and Profitability of Chickpea through Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLD) in Churu District of Rajasthan

The present study was conducted during rabi season (October to April) of four consecutive years from 2018–19 to 2021–22 at 175 selected farmer’s field in Dhani Gangajal, Kalana Tal, Bas Mamraj, Bhamra, Nethwa, Sahawa and Dingli villages of Churu District, Rajasthan, India. A total of 175 Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLD) on chickpea was conducted. The farming situation was both irrigated and rainfed while, soil was sandy to sandy loam low in nitrogen, medium in phosphorus and medium to high in potash. Gap assessment was done and on the basis of gap assessment, improved recommended technologies were demonstrated. On four-year average basis, higher grain yield was recorded under demonstration field (1714 kg ha-1) as compared to farmers practices (1379 kg ha-1) which was 24.30% higher than farmer’s practices (Local check). The average extension gap, technology gap and technology index were 336 kg ha-1, 849 kg ha-1 and 20.12%, respectively. The higher average total returns was also recorded in demonstration plot which was ` 86721 ha-1 as compared to farmer’s practices (`Rs. 86721 ha-1). There was no much difference in cost of cultivation for demonstration plot (` 24980 ha-1) and farmers practices (`Rs. 22980 ha-1). An additional investment of `Rs. 2000 ha-1 consists with scientific monitoring of demonstration and non–monetary factors resulted in additional return of ` Rs. 16,939 ha-1. Due to higher additional return farmers got `Rs. 14939 ha-1 as effective gain. On four-year average basis, incremental benefit:cost ratio was recorded 8.45.

Relational Analysis between Profile of Farmers and Extent of Adoption of Cluster Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDS)

Krishi Vigyan Kendra's (KVKs) conducted Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) to showcase the productivity of newly released technologies on farmers' fields. These demonstrations aimed to disseminate various technologies and engage farmers and extension workers in farming and extension activities. The study focused on Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. For CFLDs beneficiary farmers, the study found that variables such as education, training, mass media exposure, innovativeness, scientific orientation, management orientation, economic orientation, and risk orientation had a significant positive relationship with the extent of adoption. However, age and farming experience showed a significant negative relationship. Farm size, extension contact, social participation, and achievement motivation were not significantly related to changes in yield level.In the case of non-beneficiary farmers, education, social participation, scientific orientation, management orientation, economic orientation, and achievement motivation were negatively significant, while age, farm size, farming experience, training, extension contact, mass media exposure, and innovativeness were not significantly related to changes in yield level. When considering all 14 independent variables together, they explained approximately 73.60% of the variation in yield level changes among beneficiary farmers and 55.20% among non-beneficiary farmers participating in CFLDs.

ADOPTION OF RECOMMENDED GROUNDNUT PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY BY THE GROUNDNUT GROWERS

The study was conducted in Saurashtra region of Gujarat State. A multistage, purposive and random sampling technique was used for the study. Out of eleven district of Saurashtra region, total five districts were selected purposively where cluster frontline demonstration on groundnut crop under National Mission on Oilseed and Oil palm (NMOOP) was conducted by KVKs during last two years. Five districts of Saurashtra region were selected for the study. Two talukas from each selected districts were selected purposively where cluster frontline demonstrations are conducted by the KVKs during last two years. Thus, total 10 talukas were selected for the study. Villages from each taluka were selected purposively where maximum cluster frontline demonstrations are conducted by KVKs. Thus, total 16 villages were selected purposively. The random sampling technique was used for the selection of the respondents. 80 demonstrator and 80 non-demonstrator farmers were selected randomly from selected village for comparative study. Thus total 160 respondents were selected for this study. The data were classified, tabulated and analyzed with the help of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation and Z value. The analysis indicated that the independent sample ‘Z’ test showed that there was significant difference in the mean values of demonstrator and non-demonstrator groundnut growers in case of adoption of recommended groundnut production technology.

Yield enhancement of sesame through cluster front line demonstration in Jaipur district of Rajasthan

Cluster front line demonstration (CFLDs) on sesame crop was conducted by KrishiVigyan Kendra, Chomu (Tankarda) district- Jaipur (Rajasthan) during Kharif 2018 and 2019, respectively. Total number of demonstrations was conducted 105 with area of 42 ha in Jaipur district. The improved technology consist of improved variety, seed treatment, weed management, nutrient management and plant protection measures. The results was found that the maximum average yield was recorded 6.38q/ha in demonstration plot and minimum yield was recorded 4.61 q/ha in farmers practices. The highest average net return (Rs.23,484/ha) was recorded in the demonstration plot as compared to farmers’ practice (control plot) (Rs.14,812/ha). The maximum B:C ratio was recorded 2.38 in demonstrated plot and lower B:C ratio was found 2.03 in farmer practices.

Yield Gap Analysis through Cluster Front Line Demonstration in Blackgram at Tiruchirapalli District

Background: Black gram is one of the important crops among the pulses. Rice–blackgram cropping system is very common in Tamil Nadu. The traditional practice of broadcasting of seeds in the standing crop of rice does not ensure uniform plant population and moisture which results in poor crop growth and yield. Technology gap is a major problem in increasing blackgram production in Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil nadu State. So far, no systematic effort was made to study the technological gap existing in various components of blackgram cultivation. This project was implemented in Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) with main objective to increase the production and productivity through Cluster Frontline demonstrations (CFLDs) with latest technologies. Methods: The Cluster front line demonstration s were conducted with the objective of increase in pulse production. The five village of fifty nine Frontline demonstrations on blackgram (MDU-1) variety was laid out in an area of 50 hectares in farmer’s field in Ayelapettai, Jadamangalam, Sirugamani, Peruvanallur and Anjalam of Tiruchirapalli district in Tamil Nadu. The inputs i.e. distributed are blackgram (MDU-1) variety seed along with mechanized sowing, Result : There was 81.50 per cent increase in yield observed in demonstration plot over farmers’ practice. It was observed that potential yield can be achieved by imparting scientific knowledge to the farmers, providing the quality need based inputs and proper application of inputs. Combination of technical inputs viz., designer seeds, application of TNAU pulse wonder and biofertilizers with scientific interference have increased the potential yield of a crop.
