Knowledge, adoption and attitude of cluster frontline demonstration farmers in adoption of chickpea production technology in Malwa Pleatue Agro - Climatic zone of M.P.

The present study will be under taken in the Malwa Plateau Agro-climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh. The KVKs conducted a many numbers of Cluster Frontline demonstration on chickpea crop. Chickpea crop will be selected as under all pulse’s crops chickpea covers highest area and it is one of the most important pulse crops grown of Malwa Plateau Agro-Climatic Zone of Madhya Pradesh. The hill region constitutes about 14% in the Malwa plateau. List of villages where CFLD pulses programme is being implemented from last five year was taken from the respective KVKs. One village at nearest vicinity and one village at remote vicinity from each KVK was selected for the present study. Two villages from each KVK were selected. Thus, total eight villages were selected for the study. The design of research is the most important and crucial aspect of the research methodology. It is the entire process of planning and carrying out the research. To seek the answers for the research question, an ex-post facto research design was used to explore or search through a problem or situation to provide insights and understanding in the investigation.

Cluster frontline demonstration on soybean (Glycine max): Learning on sustainability indicators

Enhancing production sustainably in oilseeds has been a challenge for the technologists and policy planners. This study focuses on the efforts made through various technological interventions on farmers’ field under Cluster Frontline Demonstration (CFLD) in increasing production of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] crop. A total of 27,069 CFLDs on soybean crop were conducted (2018–22) across the country using improved crop varieties (47) and recommended practices (RP). This study aimed to compare the performance of enhanced soybean varieties over farmers' practices (FP). Most of these CFLDs were carried out using variety KDS-726. Four of these 47 varieties (KDS-726, JS 20-34, JS 20-69, and KDS-753) accounted for approximately 49.5% of the demonstrations. Under RP, the cultivars PS-1225 and PS-1235's showed highest and lowest yielding capacities, respectively. Under RP, the extent of difference in yield between the highest and lowest was 213.4%. All the soybean cultivars grown under RP could result in increasing the yield above FP ranging from 1.65 (PS-1225) to 136.8% (VL Soya-77). Under RP and FP, the cost of cultivation for the various soybean cultivars ranged from ₹30,665 to ₹27,074/ha, respectively. Sikkim Pahenlo Bhatmas-1 (₹79,850/ha) and JS 95-60 (₹58,756/ha) showed the highest net returns while MACS-1407 (₹18,250/ha) and PS-1024 (₹6,630/ha) recorded lowest net returns for RP and FP, respectively. Under RP, SYI (sustainable yield index) ranged from 0.61 (MAUS-158) to 0.99 (MAUS-612) while under FP, it ranged from 0.27 (RVS 2001-4) to 0.99 (JS 97-52). Varieties under RP consistently displayed greater SVI (sustainable value index) values than FP in terms of net returns. The key insight suggested that improved soybean varieties have been instrumental in increasing yield and bridging the yield gap.

Rabi groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) yield in different agro-ecologies of eastern India: Factors analyses

Improving edible oilseed production is a need of the hour to ensure food security in India. Numerous efforts were made to fasten these efforts, including implementation of Cluster Frontline Demonstration (CFLDs). In this initiative, the groundnut crop has also been promoted in various parts of India in the form of CFLD under different agro-ecological zones of eastern India through the lead taken up by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the Farm Science Centre (KVK) of Odisha and West Bengal. The assessment aimed at underlying the relative importance of the factors affecting the groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) yield in this region. A study was carried out in the winter (rabi) season 2018–22, revealed that the application of improved technologies, namely seed treatment, use of biofertilizers, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), irrigation etc. increased groundnut yield to the tune of 46.83%. The benefit-cost ratio of demonstrated plot was much higher (2.04) against the traditional practices (1.63). Further, seed treatment, application of bio-fertilizer, and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) were the major determinants behind enhancement of groundnut yield. These critical factors can significantly contribute towards augmenting the yield of groundnut followed by enhancing the profitability of farmers, besides addressing the agroecological challenges in different agro-ecological zones of eastern India.

Enhancing Productivity and Profitability of Mash through Front Line Demonstration

The study was carried out during kharif season of 2020 and 2021 in 7 villages across 2 blocks (Bhalla and Bhaderwah) of Doda district. In all 100 frontline demonstrations on Mash crop were carried out in anarea of 20.0 ha with the active participations of farmers with the objective to demonstrate the latest technology of Mash production potential, technological gap, extension gap, technology index and economic benefit of improved technologies. Cluster frontline demonstration is one of the important tools for transfer of technology and this program is being implemented through Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s of country. CFLD’s are organized on improved production technology at farmer’s field. This process not only helps in demonstrating the ways and means ofincreasing productivity but helps in obtaining feed back for further refinement of the production technology. The results revealed that CFLD recorded higher yield as compared to farmer’s practices over the two years of study. The improved technologies recorded average yield of 5.05 q/ha which was 34.71% higher than the obtained with farmer’s practices of 3.81q/ha. In spite of increase in yield of Mash, technological gap, extension gap and technology index existed which was 4.95 q/ha, 1.23 q/ha and 49.5%, respectively.

A Study on Yield and Value Sustainability in Groundnut (Arachis hypogea) Through Cluster Frontline Demonstrations Approach in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu

Background: Groundnut is a prominent oilseed crop in India but its productivity is far below the potential yield due to lack of knowledge and adoption of improved varieties and technologies. Technology gap is a major problem in groundnut production in North Eastern zone of Tamil Nadu State in which Cuddalore district falls. A scientific and systematic effort was made to study the impact on yield by assessing technological gap existing in various components of groundnut cultivation through cluster frontline demonstrations (CFLDs) with scientific technologies. Methods: Cluster Frontline Demonstrations was implemented in groundnut to improve the production potential of improved varieties and new technologies through Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). The study with one of its objective to assess yield and technology gap in groundnut was conducted with 175 demonstrations during the period from 2020-21 to 2022-23 covering seven blocks in an area of 70 hectares in Cuddalore district following cluster random sampling method. Two main varieties VRI 8 and VRI 10 along with improved technologies were demonstrated in farmer’s field by providing necessary critical inputs seed pods, bio control agents along with seed drill sowing, Result: There resulted 62.13 per cent increase in yield as observed in demonstration plots over farmers’ practices in groundnut. The study revealed that in groundnut, the average extension gap (difference of demo and farmer plot yield) is 16.26 q/ha, average technology gap (difference of potential and demo plot yield) is 12.21 q/ha and average technology index of demonstrations is 22.21 per cent. The higher average net returns (Rs. 149758/ha) were recorded in demonstration plot (BCR 2.3) compared to farmers’ plot. The Sustainability Yield Index (SYI) and Sustainability Value Index (SVI) in demo plot are higher consistently than farmers plot mainly due to the effect of cluster frontline demonstrations with proper application of inputs/technologies viz., VRI 8 and VRI 10 varieties, seed treatment with bio fertilizers, bio control agents, soil test based nutrient management, application of TNAU crop booster groundnut rich and gypsum application.

SCALING UP OF SESAME PRODUCTION UNDER CLUSTER FRONTLINE DEMONSTRATION TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER PROGRAMME IN PUNJAB, INDIA

The present investigations were undertaken to assess the effectiveness of demonstrated technology of sesame cultivation at farmers’ fields for their awareness with the objective of narrowing yield gaps in sesame crop in the rain fed areas of Punjab, India. A total of seventy-five Cluster Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDs) were conducted on improved farm technology of sesame, in which the full package of agronomic practices for its cultivation were used with special focus on improved cultivars and Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which are major constraints in sesame production. The performance of the technology demonstrated under the CFLDs was compared with that of the traditional farmers’ practice. The yield enhancement, technological gap and extension yield gaps along with the economic analysis were studied for the three years during Kharif 2017-18 to Kharif 2019-2020. The average technology gap, extension yield gap and technology index of 1.43 quintal per hectare (q/ha), 1.54 q/ha and 20.4%, respectively, were recorded. The improved farm technology package demonstrated showed significant enhancement in the profitability of oilseeds in terms of gross returns and net returns besides additional returns (Rs. 9098–15215/- per ha) and incremental benefit-cost ratio (3.54–4.40). The demonstrated farm technology was found to have huge potential to enhance sesame productivity and profitability, thereby enabling farmers to earn better livelihood under normal and collateral farming situations. Impact Assessment and Popularization of Improved Production Technology of Blackgram,Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper and Greengram,Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek through Cluster Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDs) in Old Alluvial Soil of Malda, India

ABSTRACT Pulse production in Old Alluvial Zone, Malda is significantly low compared to their potentiality due to poor cultivation practices and adoption of traditional varieties by the farmers. Cluster Frontline Demonstration, which is a noble tool, was studied during 2017–2019 in two pulses viz. blackgram (var. PU-31) and greengram (var. PDM-139) to evaluate its impacts on technology adoption and bridge the gaps in yields among potential, demonstration, and farmers’ plots. In this study, variation of technology index (TI) was observed between 23.6–32.33% and 26.07–31.67% for blackgram and greengram, respectively; whereas extension yield gaps varied by 458.0–522.0 kg ha−1 and 462.0–508.0 kg ha−1, respectively. It was inferred that blackgram and greengram productivity can be enhanced by 76.46–90.43% and 82.06–84.53%, respectively, by adopting an improved package of farm technologies. The BCR (benefit–cost ratio) of blackgram and greengram in demonstration plots varied between 1.99–2.18 and 2.03–2.61, respectively; whereas in farmers’ plots they were 1.38–1.56 and 1.39–1.82, respectively, i.e., average BCR enhanced by 41.61% and 44.57% in demonstration plots over farmers’ plots of blackgram and greengram, respectively, by adopting improved production technologies. During 2017–19, improved production technology in demonstration plots increased the average water usage efficiency of blackgram and greengram by 42.25% and 82.79%, respectively. The yield variations between farmers’ plots and demonstration plots were statistically significant at p ≤ .01 significance level. It is hypothesized that CFLDs are quite feasible and have enormous potential to enhance blackgram and greengram productivity in prevailing farming situations of socio-economically poor farming communities of this region in a sustainable manner.

Impact of Cluster Front Line Demonstrations on Yield and Economics of Toria in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh, India

The Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLD) program, launched by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi nder the National Mission on Oilseed and Oil Palm (NMOOP). The KVK Tirap carried out CFLD on Toria on 80 ha between 2017 and 2018, benefiting 200 individuals spread over 18 villages in the district that was specifically chosen. Primary data served as the study's primary source. The purpose of the study is to examine how the Cluster Front Line Demonstration by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tirap, has affected the district's socioeconomic situation, adoption and technology gap, and adoption patterns of both beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries. According to the study, cluster front-line demonstrations of tested technologies can significantly improve the yield potential and net income from oilseed farming while also raising the income levels of the participating farmers. In comparison to farmers' practices, the CFLDs reported higher average gross returns (Rs. 38560 and Rs 44812) and net returns (Rs. 18686 and Rs 19991) with a cost: benefit ratio (2.12 and 2.34); indicating the technology's economic viability.

Impact of CFLD Pulses on Blackgram Productivity and Profitability in Farmers’ Field of Gariyaband District

Background: Among the pulses grown in the kharif season, blackgram occupies 8654 ha area in the Gariyaband district. But because of improper cultivation practices, blackgram yield is quite low (430 kg/ha). Thus Cluster Frontline Demonstrations were planned and carried out to disseminate latest package of practices to the farmers inorder to boost blackgram production and productivity. Methods: 50 cluster frontline demonstrations were conducted during kharif season of 2020-21 and 2021-22 in farmer’s field at Mauhabhatta and Kamepur villages of Gariyaband district, Chhattisgarh State. The demonstrations were carried out in 20 ha area to show the higher production potentiality of the technique using improved variety Indira Urd-1. Result: The results revealed that improved seed of Indira Urd-1 treated with Rhizobium +PSB and recommended plant protection cover, recorded average yield of 6.82 q/ha as compared to 4.35 q/ha in control plot. The demonstrated technology gave higher net returns and B:C ratio of 28087 Rs/ha and 3.02 in comparison to control (16245 Rs/ha, 1.67). The average extension gap, technology gap and technology index recorded were 2.47q/ha, 5.18 q/ha and 43.16% respectively. The results indicate that adoption of improved production technologies minimized the yield gap and provided higher economic returns to the farming community.

Enhancing Groundnut Productivity in Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh: Identifying Constraints and Developing Adaptation Strategies

India is a world leader in groundnut farming. A purposive and random sampling technique was used for the study and conducted in KVK operated mandals of Anantapur and Satya Sai district. Ten mandals of KVK operational area were selected purposively where Cluster Front-Line Demonstrations were conducted and from each mandal 2 villages were selected purposively by KVK. Eight farmers from each village were selected randomly, thus making a total of 160 respondents for this study. An ex-post facto research design was used and the data were collected by interview method and enquired about the constraints faced by them for low groundnut productivity and queried suggestions to overcome the constraints faced by them. From the study, it was revealed that major constraints of the farmers faced were uncertainty in rainfall during crop growth period (96.25) followed by lack of irrigation facility (92.5 %), shortage of labour during critical stages (88.75%), low production due to pest and disease infestation (87.5%) and non-availability of appropriate market price (86.25) as reported by the farmers. Among the suggestions offered by farmers it was the supply of inputs at subsidized rate (76.25 %) ranked first followed by remunerative price should be made available to the groundnut farmers during drought years (75.0%) ranked second and irrigation facilities should be made available (72.5%) ranked third.

Yield gap analysis of rapeseed through frontline demonstration under rainfed conditions in Bongaigaon district of Assam, India

Indian rapeseed (Brassica campestris L. var. toria) is a major oilseed crop of Assam. Although rapeseed has a prominent place in the oilseeds scenario of the state, there is a vast yield difference between the potential yield and actual yield realized by the farmers. The productivity of the crop is very low due to poor transfer of technology. There is a tremendous opportunity for increasing area and the production of the crop by adopting the improved production technologies. To boost the production and productivity particularly in oilseed crops, Krishi Vigyan Kendras are playing important role in popularizing the improved technologies by demonstrating at farmers’ fields in their farming situation through Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs). Keeping the importance of FLD on rapeseed for enhancing the acreage and production of the crop, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bongaigaon, Assam conducted 1039 nos. of cluster frontline demonstration (CFLD) on high yielding variety of rapeseed (TS-36) in fifty eight villages in 640 ha of land during rabi season of the years 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 (five consecutive years) to find out the impacts of FLDs on bridging the yield gap between the potential yield and the yield in the actual farming situation. The results revealed that per cent increase in yield over farmers’ practice (local check) ranged from 18.03 to 26.90 per cent over five years. On an average, the technology gap, extension gap and technology index were recorded 1.92q/ha, 2.28q/ha and16.03%, respectively. The benefit cost ratio (BCR) of demonstration plots ranged from 1.94 to 2.97 in rapeseed crop.
