The article presents the results of a social study on the readiness of young people of the Kharkiv community to be involved in making socially important decisions under the influence of global crises. Three hypotheses have been proposed. First, global changes encourage a content-based transformation of civic values of student youth in Kharkiv towards their strengthening. Secondly, the dangers of wartime lead to an increase in the civic activity of young people in Ukrainian society. Thirdly, the level of civic education remains low. To evaluate the hypotheses put forward, the method of online survey of students and pupils of the Kharkiv community has been used. The results showed the following: 1) insufficient awareness of young people about the tools of influence on the authorities; 2) the farther the respondents are geographically, the more desperate they are in the possibilities of influencing local authorities; 3) a fairly high level of potentially active youth, since 28.2% of students and pupils feel empowered to take the initiative to interact with local governments. In addition, a high percentage of young people trust NGOs and consider them effective, and most of the students and pupils positively assess the democratic changes that have taken place in Ukrainian society (42.5% of students and schoolchildren positively assessed the results of the decentralization reform). Based on the results of the carried out social study, the importance of raising the education of young people regarding their influence on the government is emphasized, which is an important step for strengthening democracy and civic participation in community development. The findings of the social study of civic literacy of the youth of the Kharkiv community and the proposed recommendations actualize the discussion on the need to strengthen civic education and stimulate the activity of young people in interacting with the authorities and involving them in decision-making will be useful in finding ways to solve existing problems, ways to support the community in planning youth policy in the post-war period.

Study of the need for project-based learning citizenship e-books to expand national literacy of students pgri university palembang

This study raises the question of what resources are best suited to help students develop their civic literacy and acquire optimal knowledge about their nationality through citizenship education. The research's goal is to gather the information required for citizenship education so that students can learn as much as possible about their nationality. This study used an exploratory survey strategy in conjunction with a quantitative research method. The sample size was 60 individuals, comprising 10 lecturers and 50 students. The inclusion criteria for students are those who have completed the Citizenship Education course so that students can provide responses based on their experience of attending lectures in nine different study programs at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI University Palembang. Based on research findings, 92% of teachers and students believe that the analysis of national e-book creation demands meets the Very Good standard. The findings of this research support the assumption that to increase student citizenship literacy, lecturers and students at PGRI Palembang University really need Nationality E-Books.

Development of an Interactive Ebook to Improve Cultural Literacy and Citizenship in Class VIII Junior High School Students

Cultural and civic literacy is one of the important literacies for junior high school students to have. The aim of this research is to develop an interactive ebook that can increase cultural and civic literacy in class VIII students. The research method uses the Richey and Klein model, namely Research, Design, Production and Evaluation. The participants in this research consisted of seven students and one class VIII teacher at CLC SMPT Lumadan Beaufort, Sabah, Malaysia. The data analysis technique uses quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research results show that based on the results of the media validator and ebook material validator it is very valid to be used as a learning medium. Based on the results of the pretest and posttest, there was an increase in students' cultural and civic literacy results. This proves that the interactive ebook created is effective and efficient. Effective because it can increase cultural literacy and citizenship in class VIII students significantly and efficiently because it does not require a long time in the improvement process, namely within one month after using the product in classroom learning.

In the industrial era 4.0, literacy is considered an essential need for every human being to meet the needs of daily life. Education plays the first and main role in the progress of the nation and the State of Indonesia, Indonesia is known as an archipelagic country, this makes Indonesia has a diversity of tribes, races and groups that have many cultures. With the current of globalization that continues to grow, the younger generation is less interested in traditions and culture The process of implementing cultural and civic literacy is among them through the process of traditional game activities carried out by students as a form of cultural literacy activities. In order for the implementation of cultural and civic learning to take place effectively and efficiently, teachers and students in schools must take various steps, such as having school policies that affirm the importance of cultural and civic knowledge, which will affect cultural and civic learning.

Implementasi Literasi Budaya dan Kewargaan Melalui Program LEKSAM BEDAS di SDN Cipaku 03 Untuk Meningkatkan Kreativitas Pada Siswa

This research aims to determine the implementation of cultural and civic literacy through the LEKSAM BEDAS literacy program at SDN Cipaku 03 to increase creativity in students. This research uses one method, namely the qualitative descriptive method. Then the researcher also studied research information from the results of interviews conducted with the fifth grade teacher who was the literacy program supervisor at SDN Cipaku 03. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using data collection, data reduction, data presentation, inference and verification techniques. The results of the research show that SDN Cipaku 03 has implemented the Family Educational Literacy program, Children’s School and Community, Awakening to Dynamic, Prosperous, Religious Education (Leksam Bedas) in order to improve literacy and creativity skills in students. The Bedas Leksam program can be carried out by utilizing libraries and other reading areas as literacy infrastructure that supports students. The Bedas Leksam program can be combined with cultural literacy and civic literacy.

Linking digital, visual, and civic literacy in an era of mis/disinformation: Canadian teachers reflect on using the Questioning Images tool

ABSTRACTThe spread of mis- and dis-information during elections creates an opportunity and an imperative to cultivate and develop critical civic literacy with young people. Leading up to the 2019 Canadian federal election, researchers worked with Canadian non-governmental organisation (NGO) CIVIX to translate research on visual media literacy into an innovative and timely teaching resource: Questioning Images. This paper explores what teachers’ responses to using this particular resource can highlight about the links between visual literacy, digital literacy, and civic literacy, to support critical digital citizenship education. After setting up the background to the study, we present key themes from focus groups with teachers who used the resource and then consider implications. Overall, we found the tool supported teachers in deepening their understanding of, and approach to, digital literacy and highlighting the importance of visual literacy, and it supported political education and civic literacy during and beyond the 2019 election. We argue, however, that further resourcing is needed to support a comprehensive approach to visual culture where digital, visual, and civic literacies are mutually constitutive and where visual analysis goes beyond verification to offer ways of understanding visual disinformation in terms of its broader civic implications.

Peningkatan Literasi Kewarganegaraan dan Kesadaran Multikulturalisme pada Masyarakat Papua Selatan

Civic literacy is something that comes along with civic learning in formal education, but this limits people's understanding of how to implement their civic engagement in society. This community service focuses on two main things, namely, civic literacy and also multicultural awareness. This service activity was carried out on the South Papuan community involved in various youth organizations as many as 24 people consisting of various demographic representations. The results of this service show a change in behavior patterns and perceptions presented in the results and discussion section.

Enhancing Civic Literacy and Engagement: The Impact of a Criminal Justice Capstone Course

This study examines the effects of a criminal justice capstone course on student levels of civic literacy and civic engagement. The course was designed to provide students with insights into the intersection between criminal justice policies and practices and the political process. The goals of the course included helping students more fully understand criminal justice policies and practices and where they come from and helping to motivate them to participate in the political process and be more knowledgeable when they do. An evaluation of the course utilized a mixed-methods approach involving pre- and post-semester surveys and reflections submitted at the end of the course. Quantitative and qualitative results of this study indicate a shift in students’ civic literacy and engagement throughout the semester. The findings of this research highlight the pivotal role of education in nurturing informed and engaged citizens.

Media Sosial Sebagai Media Promosi Kewargaan: Studi Etnografi Digital

This research aims to elaborate on the usefulness of social media as a media for citizenship promotion. Dependence on digitalization makes social media increasingly used and influences various civic activities. In the era of the digital economy, the role of social media has become the most important promotional tool for every activity of citizens, business entities and the public. Social media has been used to disseminate various civic activities so that they can then become known to the public. The impact of social media-based civic activities has created dynamic and participatory interaction patterns in promoting activities. This research uses a digital ethnographic approach with in-depth interview techniques and digital participant observation with the millennial generation in Pandeglang Regency, Banten. The research results found that social media has become a media for promoting citizenship, starting from personal activities, business entities and public organizations. Various schemes for strengthening digital civic literacy are needed, so that social media can be well positioned as a media for civic promotion in the era of digitalization.

Kemampuan Literasi Budaya dan Kewargaan Mahasiswa PGSD Universitas Muhamadiyah Sidoarjo, Indonesia

Cultural and civic literacy is part of the national literacy movement launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia. This initiative seeks to equip all Indonesian citizens with the essential skills to navigate and respond to the increasing diversity of the 21st century. The Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) study program at University Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) recognizes the importance of this goal. It provides material content for learning about cultural and civic issues. Based on this, it is essential to conduct research on the cultural literacy and citizenship abilities of PGSD students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo in the 21st century to know the cultural literacy and citizenship abilities of students and provide references to further learning activities in developing cultural literacy and citizenship in PGSD students. The research was conducted in the 2021/2022 academic year, which is between February 2022 and June 2022. This research employed a descriptive study using the survey method with a sample of 136 semester II students who have taken civics courses. Data collection techniques were in the form of questionnaires and data analysis techniques using percentage techniques. The study results showed that the percentage shows 68.4%, namely, out of 136 students, 93 students have a relatively high range of scores in digital literacy skills and citizenship.

In this article, we discuss a collaboration between library employees of Library West and LACC to facilitate access to voting information and promote civic engagement among UF students. This collaboration resulted in the creation of a voting guide, a voting rights display, and a social media campaign, and bilingual voting plan cards. 
 By including ways for students to learn about the issues and to get involved in the political process, we can further promote information literacy, civic literacy, and civic engagement on campus and beyond, therefore fulfilling UF’s goal of providing “an outstanding and accessible education that prepares students for work, citizenship and life.”

IMPLEMENTASI GERAKAN LITERASI SEKOLAH (GLS) DI LINGKUNGAN SMA PEWARIS PERADABAN PLUS

Abstract 
 The School Literacy Movement (GLS) is a massive and structured movement to foster the habits and abilities of students to be able to access, understand, and use something intelligently through various activities, including reading, seeing, listening, writing, speaking and being able to utilize and implement what they know in everyday life. The School Literacy Movement (GLS) is considered effective if students master six basic literacy, namely (1) language literacy, (2) numeracy literacy, (3) scientific literacy, (4) digital literacy, (5) financial literacy, and (6) cultural and civic literacy. The title of the study is "Implementation of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) in the High School Environment of the Heir of Civilization Plus Ciseeng, Ciseeng District, Bogor Regency". This study aims to determine how effective the implementation of the School Literacy Movement Program at SMA Pewaris Civilization Plus Ciseeng; and what positive and negative aspects are contained in the School Literacy Movement Program at SMA Pewaris Civilization Plus Ciseeng. This research is an empirical normative research with a qualitative descriptive analysis approach. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the school literacy movement (GLS) in the Pewaris High School plus Ciseeng Civilization environment was almost entirely going well, although there were still some derivative programs that were not optimal, namely related to financial literacy..

The Effectiveness of Cultural Literacy and Citizenship through Staging Creativity against Global Diversity Characters of Elementary School Students

This research is motivated by the decline in students' global diversity character as well as the lack of optimization of its application in elementary schools. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of cultural and civic literacy through creativity performances in improving students' global diversity character in elementary schools. The method used in this research is a quasi-experiment method with a non-equivalent control group design using an experimental class and a control class. Data analysis techniques in this study used descriptive analysis and prerequisite tests, namely the normality test and homogeneity test. Furthermore, hypothesis testing was carried out with the Independent Sample T-Test test and N-Gain data analysis. The results of this study show that applying cultural and civic literacy through creative performances effectively improves the character of global diversity of fifth grade elementary school students. There is significant difference in effectiveness between the experimental group and the control group on the global diversity character of grade V elementary school students. The treatment in the experimental group by implementing cultural literacy and citizenship through staging creativity is effective in increasing the character of global diversity in fifth grade elementary school students.

대학 ESG 교양교육의 방향

In this paper, as a strategy for revitalizing ESG(Environmental, Social, and Governance) education, we looked at the direction of ESG liberal arts education in universities. To this end, the theoretical background of ESG and cases of companies and local governments were examined. In addition, through cases of citizen participation and learner-centered ESG education with local communities and university students, a draft educational program and learner satisfaction survey results were analyzed. Finally, as a way to expand ESG education from the perspective of civic literacy and lifelong education, the direction and teaching methods of ESG liberal arts education in universities were examined. Through this, it was confirmed that ESG liberal arts education can be a new paradigm shift in university education and an innovative education strategy.

“My People Wouldn’t Stand For This”: Ethnic Studies as Critical Civic Education

Using testimonio method and methodology, this paper provides the stories and narratives of three Chicanx teachers who developed and taught an Ethnic Studies course to Latinx students in a large urban high school. Long celebrated as a way to fill in missing history, art, literature, resistance, and knowledge of communities of color, this paper argues that Ethnic Studies is also a vehicle to grow and embolden student sense of critical civic literacy. Through the narratives that emerge from these three teachers, the curriculum and pedagogy offered by these teachers positively impacts and propels students to advocate for themselves and their communities through civic and political action. The purpose of this article is to highlight the curricular and pedagogical choices of three teachers teaching Ethnic Studies and how Ethnic Studies can be used as a tool to increase Critical Civic Literacy.

“There’s something wrong in society”: Teaching for racial civic literacy using young adult fiction

ABSTRACT This multiple case study traced how secondary preservice social studies teachers grappled with understanding race/racism in their reading of the novel, All American Boys. Participants, all self-identified as white, consisted of two cohorts of students who attended a large midwestern university and were enrolled in an advanced social studies methods course. Drawing on notions of racial civic literacy, we analyzed participants’ responses to the novel, especially as it related to the police officer character who committed racial violence on an unarmed Black youth. We asked whether the officer’s actions were racist. Findings showed that participants reacted to the officer’s actions in three ways: calling-out race/ism, justifying his actions, and distancing from making judgments. Participants who called out Officer Galluzzo’s actions as racism saw this character as symbolic of larger systemic issues in society, whereas those who sought to justify Galluzzo’s actions demonstrated faith in public institutions, such as policing and the court system. Finally, those who distanced themselves claimed to be in a space of neutrality. Results of the study suggest that faith in public institutions, often considered a hallmark of the civic mission of schooling, may be at odds with fostering racial civic literacy.

Strengthening civic literacy among students through digital literacy in society 5.0

The reading index in Indonesia is still relatively low, so many students are victims of fake news that develops on social media. In addition, students have not been able to utilize digital technology as digital literacy to the fullest, so it has implications for the weakness of knowledge about civic literacy. The research design used is a literature review and the type of qualitative research. The research method is literature, while the data collection technique uses document studies and the data analysis used is content analysis. Civic literacy has an important role in facing the era of society 5.0, with the ability of civic literacy, really helps students to participate in realizing the harmony of the life of the nation and state. Society 5.0 has a formidable challenge for higher education if each lecturer does not equip students with civic literacy skills. Strategies to strengthen civic literacy through digital literacy can be carried out effectively, by implementing varied learning methods and using digital-based learning media. Through this, students will be interested in learning, considering that students are a digital native generation who cannot be separated from digital technology. Strengthening civic literacy is very effective by utilizing digital literacy so that every student can adapt to the times, especially society in the 5.0 era.
