A New Socioeconomic Formation?

This article seeks to provide a more comprehensive philosophical framework for the proposed model of a “new projectment economy” in China. Developed by a research team of political economists and social scientists, the “new projectment economy” offers an innovative theoretical framework in an attempt to interpret facts on the ground in China. However, what is needed is more extensive philosophical analysis of what is at stake. Thus, the article has two main sections. The first provides a critical overview of the move from the “old projectment” as initially proposed by the Brazilian economist Ignacio Rangel, as well the key points of the “new projectment” in relation to China. The second main section turns to connect the proposal of the research team with Chinese Marxist philosophical analysis, in terms of the development of contradiction analysis, a reconstruction of China’s economic history since 1949, and a proposed dialectical transformation (Aufhebung) of both plan and market in the new era. Further engagement by the “projectment” research team with Chinese scholars and policy-makers should be the next step, for this would lead to mutual enrichment through complementarity and difference.

A comparative study of research questions written by L1 English authors and Chinese EFL scholars

Research questions (RQs) function as an important basis for entire research projects, but scant attention has been paid to their formulation. The current study compares the types and structures of RQs and inter-step shifts involving RQs in English research articles (RAs) written by L1 English authors and Chinese EFL scholars. Our data consisted of 300 English RAs from highly ranked journals in the field of applied linguistics, comprising 150 articles by L1 English authors and 150 articles by Chinese EFL scholars. The findings reveal that RQ types are used by both author groups in the following decreasing order: descriptive questions > contingent questions > comparative questions > explanatory questions > normative questions. Both Chinese and L1 English writers exhibit sophisticated competence in constructing RQs in appropriate hierarchical orders, characterized by patterns of parallel structure, progressive structure, and parallel-progressive structure. However, English L1 scholars outperform their Chinese counterparts in the use of inter-step shifts that integrate RQs into a broader text. Our findings can help writers understand the internal logic of RQs, guide them to formulate hierarchically appropriate RQs and integrate them into the entire research context.

International Mobility and Knowledge Exchange Between China and the West: A Study of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Scholars

Purpose This study examines the impact of international academic mobility on knowledge exchange between China and the West, including its potential benefits and risks, specifically in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) fields. Design/Approach/Methods This study employed qualitative research methods; specifically, data were collected through interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings With increasing knowledge flows in global academia, Chinese HSS scholars are benefiting from international academic mobility. They engage in various activities, such as international visits, conferences, and research collaborations, and praise the role of mobility in building an understanding of Western culture and knowledge, including research dynamics, embodied and encultured knowledge, and location-specific textual materials. However, international mobility has inadvertently exacerbated global knowledge asymmetries, with some Chinese scholars uncritically adopting Western paradigms. Nonetheless, pioneering Chinese HSS scholars aim to promote a two-way knowledge exchange between China and the West by fostering cultural reflexivity and enhancing their global visibility. Originality/Value Chinese HSS scholars serve as an illuminating example in the context of global knowledge asymmetries dominated by the Anglo-American West. These findings have theoretical and practical implications for fostering equitable and inclusive knowledge exchange between Western and non-Western societies through international academic mobility.

Research on Evaluation Index System oF Low-carbon Existing Communities

In recent years, China has carried out urban renewal in an orderly manner. Based on the new stage, to accelerate the construction of a low-carbon innovative society under the urban renewal, we should improve the low-carbon indicator system, deepen the transformation of existing urban communities, and enhance the urban low-carbon innovation capacity. Based on the review and reference of the evaluation system of low-carbon related pilot work, the practice of low-carbon community index system in foreign countries, and the existing research and practice of other Chinese scholars on the existing community low-carbon index system, this paper proposes the construction principles of low-carbon community evaluation index system. This paper summarizes the influencing factor framework of the construction of energy-saving buildings, low-carbon transportation and low-carbon living environment in the process of low-carbon existing communities, and selects the secondary and tertiary indicators according to the influencing factors. A set of low-carbon community index system is proposed to evaluate the existing community, and the operability of the evaluation index system is verified by questionnaire survey

A Literature Review of the Academic Study of Tourists’ Environmentally Responsible Behavior in China

Training tourists with environmentally responsible behavior is helpful to protect the environment of the tourist destination and is an important way to realize the sustainable development of the tourist destination. Therefore, it is necessary to study and understand the influencing factors and driving mechanism of tourists' environmentally responsible behavior, so as to form strategies for promoting environmentally responsible behavior and therefore provide scientific basis for management decision-making. This paper reviews the relevant research of Chinese scholars on tourists' environmental responsibility behavior, analyzes the characteristics of the literature, summarizes the research hotspots, and draws a research prospect based on the review and analysis, in order to provide reference for relevant research.

Research on the Differences Between the Willingness and Behavior of Rural Homestead Withdrawal

In the process of urban-rural integration in China, rural homesteads have a significant impact on farmers' basic rights and the long-term development of the national economy. Therefore, the withdrawal of rural homesteads has received high attention from government departments and grassroots farmers, and the economic value of rural homesteads is also increasing. Currently, there is no perfect legal regulation for the withdrawal of the right to use rural homestead, and the pilot work in some areas cannot effectively protect the rights and interests of farmers. Therefore, while increasing the research efforts on relevant topics, Chinese scholars pay more attention to improving the withdrawal effect by combining specific problems. This paper, based on understanding the basic concept of homestead withdrawal, mainly explores the research process of homesteads and the differences in willingness and behavior of withdrawal, analyzes the main models and future prospects of homestead withdrawal and reuse, in order to fully protect the basic rights of farmers and realize the economic value of homesteads.

Analysis of the retraction papers in oncology field from Chinese scholars from 2013 to 2022.

To analyze the characteristics of retracted oncology papers from Chinese scholars and the reasons for retraction. Data on retracted oncology papers from Chinese scholars published from 2013 to 2022 were retrieved from the Retraction Watch database. The retraction number and annual distribution, article types, reasons for retraction, retraction time delay, publishers, and journal characteristics of the retracted papers were analyzed. A total of 2695 oncology papers from Chinese scholars published from 2013 to 2022 had been retracted. The majority of these papers were published from 2017 to 2020. In terms of article type, 2538 of the retracted papers were research articles, accounting for 94.17% of the total number of retracted papers. The main reasons for retraction were data, result, and image problems, duplicate publication, paper mills, author- and third-party-related reasons, plagiarism, false reviews, and method errors. The retraction time delay for the retracted papers ranged from 0 to 3582 days (median, 826 days). The retractions mainly occurred within the first 4 years after publication. A total of 77 publishers were involved in the retracted papers. In terms of journal distribution, 394 journals were involved in the retracted papers, of which 368 (93.40%) were included in the SCI database. There were 243 journals with an impact factor of <5 (66.03%). In the field of oncology, the annual distribution of retracted papers from Chinese scholars exhibited first an increasing and subsequently a decreasing trend, reaching a peak in 2019, indicating an improvement in the status of retraction after 2021. The main type of the retracted papers was research article, and the main reason for retraction was academic misconduct. The retractions were mainly concentrated in several major publishers and periodicals in Europe and the United States. Most of the journals had low-impact factors.

Reception of Anton Chekhov's play "Uncle Vanya" in China

This paper examines several important translations of the play from the play's first appearance in China in 1930 to the present day, as well as research and analyses of the play by Chinese scholars. The author uses comparative-typological, comparative-historical, and interpretive methods as the leading research methods. Through the comparative-historical method the dependence between the socio-cultural conditions of the state and the peculiarities of the work's reception is established. The difference in the viewpoints of literary scholars and critics on the poetics and imagery of the play is explicated by the author of the work through the use of comparative-typological method. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that some articles and books by Chinese critics and literary critics considering the peculiarities of the figurative structure and ideological content of A. P. Chekhov's play "Uncle Vanya" are the first to be included in the research turnover, allowing to establish the dependence of the perception of the work by Chinese readers on the socio-cultural conditions of the country. As a result, the author has shown that the perception of "Uncle Vanya" in China is closely connected with the social and political factors of the country, changing over time. The study showed that in the 21st century, more and more attention is paid to the artistic and literary aspects of the work.

China–North Korea Arms Trade from the Perspective of Chinese Scholars

executive summary: This article examines the historical context and evolving dynamics of China–North Korea arms trade and its future scenarios, shedding light on the motivations, methods, and implications of this strategic partnership. main argument An assessment of open-source materials authored by Chinese scholars and experts indicates that, despite international sanctions on weapon sales to North Korea, arms exports play a significant role in enhancing China's geopolitical influence, countering the U.S., and securing a Chinese presence on the Korean Peninsula. Arms exports from China to North Korea are likely to shift from individual products to integrated systems, influenced by the adoption of systems thinking in both the Chinese and the North Korean defense sectors. Additionally, arms trade may evolve toward taking place within China's expanding multilateral frameworks, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the Belt and Road Initiative. China may also see a role for North Korea as an intermediary for arms sales to other sanctioned states, mirroring its historical role as an intermediary for North Korea. policy implications • If arms sales from China to North Korea transform into system-based packages, then policymakers should anticipate changes in the nature and coordination of North Korean weaponry, necessitating a reassessment of defense strategies. • If China integrates arms trade into multilateral frameworks, then it is recommended that the U.S. monitor and assess the impact of these organizations on regional security dynamics and consider diplomatic measures to mitigate their securitization. • If North Korea acts as an intermediary for Chinese arms sales to sanctioned states, then robust intelligence efforts and international collaboration should be prioritized to enforce arms control regimes and curb illicit activities. • If Chinese assistance enhances North Korea's military capabilities, then counterstrategies for North Korean systems warfare and advanced technologies will be important for the U.S. so that it can continue to operate effectively in networked environments on the Korean Peninsula.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Study on Eileen Chang Using CiteSpace

In the context of literary studies undergoing development, the works of Eileen Chang, a seminal Chinese-American writer, have garnered significant scholarly attention, reflecting her profound impact on modern Chinese literature. The study analyzed publication trends, high-frequency keywords, and the scholarly network, providing insights into the research status of Eileen Chang’s works. The analysis revealed a disparity between Chinese and overseas research focuses, with Chinese scholars predominantly exploring themes such as Eileen Chang’s works, feminist consciousness, and literary figures related to her. Overseas scholars, on the other hand, exhibit a broader research scope encompassing topics like translation, modern Chinese literature, and cultural aspects. The analysis highlighted the prominent scholars in the field and their publication patterns, indicating the emergence of new scholars in recent years. Based on the findings, this study proposed suggestions for future researchers, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, international collaboration, comparative studies, utilization of digital humanities, and exploration of underrepresented topics.

A Review of Chinese Comparative Literature Scholar Professor Jing-Yao Sun’s Research on “Paraliterature”

Professor Jing-Yao Sun, a prominent figure in Chinese comparative literature and a renowned scholar in the field, has made significant contributions to the study of “paraliterature,” an area often overlooked by Chinese scholars. Since the early 1980s, he has been at the forefront of exploring Suzhou Pingtan through a literary perspective. In the 21st century, he emerged as a leading authority in the comparative analysis of “paraliterature,” particularly through his examination of storytelling between China and America. Furthermore, his insightful exploration of the essence of Ion’s oral literary performance and Plato’s misconceptions has paved the way for a deeper understanding of “paraliterature.” Professor Sun’s methodologies have profoundly inspired subsequent generations of comparative literature students in China, motivating them to contribute more to the study of international comparative literature.

The Knowledge Landscape and Local Characteristics of Learning Engagement Research in China:A Bibliometric Analysis Based on CNKI and CSSCI

The study of learning engagement has been fruitful since it entered the vision of Chinese scholars at the end of the 20th century. Taking 2, 389 and 199 valid citing documents from CNKI and CSSCI Database respectively, and the corresponding 4039 cited documents from the latter as the analyzed samples, and comprehensively using bibliometric method and traditional bibliographic method, this paper describes and presents a four-dimensional knowledge picture containing the accumulation history of literature on learning input research in China, main research teams, knowledge base and hot topics of learning engagement research in China, and refines local characteristics based on this. It is found that: (1) Chinese learning engagement research has generated five attributes in its process of development: the process of document accumulation has gone through two stages of “budding period and growth period”; the main research team is composed of scholars from comprehensive universities and normal colleges and universities; the research content has formed the distribution of “multi-action mechanism exploration, less theoretical concept construction”; the research method shows a decreasing law of “more quantitative research, less qualitative research”; research objects presents the characteristics of “focusing on higher education and running through the three stages of primary education, secondary education and higher education”. (2) Chinese learning engagement research has obtained many heterogeneous findings in the comparison: mainly including the development of tools that are closer to Chinese educational practice and the findings that are more in line with the experience of Chinese learners.

Translation Studies on Xi Jinping: The Governance of China—A Systematic Literature Review

This paper conducted a systematic literature review of the previous studies within China and other countries within the period from October 2014 to July 2023 with the purpose of investigating the research foci on the English translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China. This study revealed that scholars in Chinese Mainland mainly focused on three fields: research on translation strategies of political documents, cultural translation in foreign publicity translation, the external dissemination of political documents and the construction of national image. Besides, an emerging field with discourse analysis-related theories to explore discourse theory paradigms, evaluate discourse quality, and conduct corpus analysis of discourse has provided multivariant academic thinking in translation studies. Compared with Chinese scholars&amp;rsquo; studies, there was minimal discussion about the foreign scholars&amp;rsquo; exploration of the translation strategies and methods or other translation-related topics, which implied the urgent need of mutual academic communication between Chinese scholars and the foreign academic circles to promote the further development of Chinese political document translation studies.

Innovative pharmacotherapy for hepatic metabolic and chronic inflammatory diseases in China.

Liver disease constitutes a significant global health concern, particularly in China where it has distinctive characteristics. China grapples with a staggering 300 million cases, predominantly due to hepatitis B and metabolic non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Additionally, hepatocellular carcinoma has become a prevalent which is a lethal type of cancer. Despite the scarcity of innovative treatment options, Chinese hepatologists and researchers have achieved notable breakthroughs in the prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment of liver diseases. Traditional Chinese medicines have found widespread application in the treatment of various liver ailments owing to their commendable pharmacological efficacy and minimal side effects. Furthermore, there is a growing body of research in extracellular vesicles, cell therapy and gene therapy, offering new hope in the fight against liver diseases. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the epidemiological characteristics of liver diseases and the diverse array of treatments that Chinese scholars and scientists have pursued in critical field.

The aim of the research is to identify the peculiarities of perception and reconstruction of the female characters of A. N. Ostrovsky’s play “The Storm” in the first Chinese translation of the play by Geng Jizhi, a literary scholar and translator. Through the comparative analysis, the translation strategies are determined, taking into account the peculiarities of the translator’s perception and interpretation of the female characters. Among them, Geng Jizhi’s interpretation of Katerina’s image is particularly concerned, which has affected the view of Chinese scholars on Katerina’s image, that is, she is a strong character with a “storm” personality. The scientific novelty of this research lies in the fact that it is the first to specifically study the translation reception of the play “The Storm” in China and to consider the peculiarities of the female characters’ perception and recreation in Chinese. The research reveals that the translator hopes to retain the national color of Ostrovsky’s play and reproduce the characters’ speech, behavior and their personality traits. But at the same time, in Geng Jizhi’s translation, Kabanova’s and Varvara’s characters are more introverted and Feklusha’s comic features become less obvious. The translator carefully reproduces the poetic and picturesque monologues of Katerina in the first few scenes of the play, but with the development of the conflict, he shortens the lyric fragments, changes the tone of the lines and thus creates a more resolute and strong character. The Chinese translator’s understanding and reconstruction of the female characters in Ostrovsky’s play are influenced by the linguistic features of the original work, Chinese cultural traditions and the necessity of adapting texts for stage performances. The interpretation of Katerina’s image is influenced by N. A. Dobrolyubov’s interpretation of her figure and the history and literary situation of China, which needed strong and active protagonists in artistic works.

Research of open government data in China: A systematic literature study in public administration (2013–2023)

By building structures on open government data and illuminating the area of China with a systematic assessment of 220 papers published in major journals of public administration from 2013 to 2023, this article aims to bridge the research gap of open government data. It presents an overview of the landscape of Chinese OGD research and exposes the current gaps with the paths of unresolved research in the future by thoroughly examining the overall progress, theoretical topics, theoretical underpinnings, and methodologies of these studies. Combining the findings of this analysis with the overall trends in Chinese OGD development and the current international research frontiers on OGD, the article suggests that Chinese scholars should critically examine international theories and construct a development framework tailored to the specific needs of Chinese OGD. It also proposes the coordinate mechanism and the synergistic effect at the micro-level need to be further explored and use more advanced quantitative research methodologies to confirm theoretical and qualitative empirical findings.

EMPLOYMENT CONCEPTS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS IN CHINA AND ABROAD: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

Currently, the issue of "employment difficulty" among Chinese college students is quite prevalent. The academic community has previously conducted in-depth research on the employment concepts of college students. This paper examines studies conducted by Chinese and foreign scholars on the employment concepts of college students. The study is a preliminary exploration based on literature reviews, readings, surveys, and perspectives, utilizing library resources such as circulars, books, journals, and websites. The results of the preliminary survey indicate that basic theoretical research and assessment methods in China and abroad are relatively mature, yielding rich outcomes. However, there are still significant issues to be addressed. Through systematic review, this article identifies the following urgent research issues. Firstly, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, presenting new requirements for college students. The new connotation of college students' employment views under these circumstances is still unknown. Secondly, the research object of scholars is more concentrated on the graduates, and few people pay attention to the employment view of current college students. Finally, scholars rarely focus on a specific discipline when studying the employment views of college students.

Chinese Snowscape As a Phenomenon

With unique aesthetic value, snowy landscapes are one of the most important subjects in Chinese painting. Due to their purity, elegance, serenity, simplicity and cold charm, snow scenes have been the focus of artists and scholars from long ago. The artistic features and cultural connotations of Chinese snow paintings have attracted the attention of many Chinese and Russian scholars. However, there is no typological study of snow landscape in their works. In this regard, the authors consider it necessary to actualize this topic. The article provides historical information about the study of snowy landscape, the history of Chinese painting masters’ appeal to this theme. The classification of snow painting depending on seasons, geographical regions of China, atmospheric phenomena, and themes is offered. The authors suggest their definition of the concept of “Chinese snow landscape” and the author’s classification of the content of snow paintings. The paper applies a typological approach to the analysis of “snow” scenes, and examines the development of traditional Chinese aesthetic contexts from ancient artistic codes to contemporary theories. Outstanding examples of snow landscape painting are presented. Snow painting is an important medium of Chinese cultural heritage that demonstrates the diversity and richness of Chinese culture. The given overview of China’s snow scene painting as a phenomenon in the work of Chinese artists can serve as a basis for further in–depth studies.

Perception of Andrei Bely's works in China

The paper examines the history of Chinese translations and studies of the artistic creativity and theoretical research of Andrei Bely, as well as comparative analysis of the works of Chinese literary scholars specializing in the study of poetry, prose, as well as the critical heritage of the Russian symbolist. The purpose of the work is to give a complete picture of the state of translations and the degree of knowledge of Bely’s heritage in China, as well as to summarize this existing material, which seems important for subsequent research in this area. In addition, the article traces the stages of development of the study of the works of Andrei Bely, special attention is paid to the perception of the novel Petersburg and its literary criticism by Chinese scholars. An attempt is being made to identify gaps in Chinese literary studies and thus highlight promising lines of development in this area of literary criticism. The work uses comparative historical method, which allows us to determine the influence of Russian modernism, represented by Bely, on the modern literary process in China. Translations of Bely's works into Chinese are not yet a fully studied problem in science, which determines the novelty of the research. It is shown how the approach to the translation of symbolist text has changed and improved, three groups of translations have been identified and considered (translations of poetry, theory and novels), with special attention paid to the translation of novels. As for research, despite the sufficient number of works on Bely in Chinese science, they cannot be considered exhaustive. Our work attempts to highlight both problem areas and achievements of Chinese Bely studies, consider various scientific approaches to understanding Bely’s prose, and concludes that it is necessary to expand scientific tools for a deeper understanding of Bely’s heritage.
