We would like to thank Greenberg for his thoughtful comments regarding our recent survey of the experiences of former pediatric chief residents. As demonstrated in Figure 2 of our article, 1 our respondents did spend markedly less time performing ambulatory care compared with inpatient care. In addition, the amount of time spent in both of these clinical settings appears to be decreasing. We agree with Greenberg's observation that with the focus of medicine shifting to the outpatient arena, chief residents will need to reevaluate the specific components of their clinical duties. We were also interested in the methods by which chief residents are prepared for their role. Of our 1137 respondents, only 423 (37%) had received some form of orientation.
