Study on the relationship between raw material characteristics of soybean protein concentrate and textured vegetable protein quality

To investigate which protein properties affect the quality of high moisture textured vegetable protein (HTVP), we compared 12 commercial Soy Protein Concentrate (SPC). The comparison revealed that characteristics of different SPCs vary greatly, significant impact on the quality of extrusion products. There were significant differences in the degree of texturization, textural properties, and the sensory score of products. Statistical correlation analysis between SPC raw materials and products showed that the quality of products was significantly affected by the nitrogen solubility index (NSI), water holding capacity (WHC), emulsifying properties (EAI), foaming capacity (FC), gel strength, and sulfhydryl content of SPC raw materials. Our research provides a way to stabilize extrusion product quality.

Preliminary handheld XRF analysis of Late Bronze Age metal finds from the Budakeszi-Őzvölgy-tető site (Pest county, Hungary)

This study discusses the chemical analysis results of Middle and Late Bronze Age stray finds and the Late Bronze Age hoards excavated at the recently discovered Budakeszi-Őzvölgy-tető site (Pest County, Hungary). This measurement series is the second stage in the scientific evaluation of the finds, which helps to characterize the elemental composition and raw material characteristics of the A and B hoards and the stray finds. Our aim is to obtain elemental composition information on the 103 objects, which can be used to identify the main alloy types within the hoards, as well as to establish a research strategy for the further examination of the metal finds from the Őzvölgy-tető with more complex and reliable methods. A handheld XRF device was used, which provides compositional information on the surface of the objects, but its main advantage is that it enables the analysis of a large number of samples within a short time. Here, we interpret the obtained data within the limits of the applied method. Based on our results, the majority of the artifacts can be identified as Cu-Sn alloys. Pb, Sb, Ni, Zn, Ag, Fe, Co and As are the main accompanying elements of the objects’ patina from Budakeszi, their presence being indicative of the raw material and its source. The presence of certain elements at higher quantities may indicate specific technological phenomena. The high surface Pb content on the convex part of the ingots is probably due to the phenomenon of lead segregation. While the high Fe content could be interpreted as a technological defect and the result of an incomplete iron removal process during smelting. Handheld XRF measurements show a correlation between patina color and surface elemental composition in some cases (e.g., dark gray – high Pb, black – high Pb-Sb), but more typically, the same color can be associated with different elemental combinations (grayish-silver, high Pb-Sb, Pb-Sn, high Sn). Our results help to independently verify the relative dating of the hoards and the stray finds. The high Fe or Zn content, which is not typical of the Late Bronze Age, allows us to date some of the stray find lumps and one sheet of metal to the Medieval Period or Modern Ages. The high surface Sb and Pb contents observed in Late Bronze Age artifacts from Budakeszi are in good agreement with former quantitative elemental composition data from Transdanubian (e.g., Biatorbágy, Velem-Szent Vid), Austrian and Slovenian artifacts deposited in the Ha B1 period, which support the archaeological dating of the hoards and most stray finds.

Current Status and Raw Material Characteristics of Painted Pigment in used Traditional Dancheong: Focused on the National-designated Wooden Architectural Heritages in Korea

In this study, the composition of traditional Korean Dancheong pigments existing in national-designated wooden architectural heritages was analyzed, and the current status of pigments according to the raw material characteristics used was statistically examined. As for the red pigment, Seokganju, Yeondan, Jusa had a high share, and natural and artificial inorganic pigments had a high usage rate. As for yellow pigments, organic pigments(estimated Deunghwang), Hhwangto, and gold showed a high share. In the case of organic pigments and gold, Yeonbaek was used as a based pigment to increase color development. As for the green pigment, Hayeob, Noerok, Samrok showed a high share. The Hayeob and Neorok are identified as a single raw material, but it can be seen that the Samrok is made by mixing copper oxides such as moolooite and lead-based white raw materials. Blue pigments have a lower share of pigments compared to other colors. As for the blue pigment, Guncheong, Hoecheong, and Seokcheong showed a high market share, and natural and artificial inorganic pigments accounted for the majority. In particular, it is characteristic that the use of expensive pigments such as Seokcheong and Guncheong is concentrated on the Palace Dancheong. White and black pigments have a low share in Dancheong coloring, but the white and black lines play a very important role in the perfection of Dancheong. It can be seen that the white pigment has a high share of Baekto(white clay) and Yeonbaek, and is used not only for coloring but also as a based pigment for color pigments. Most of the black pigment is made up of more than 95% organic raw material containing carbon as its main component, and it shows various aspects depending on the lower pigment layer. Through this, it was confirmed based on on-site analysis data of wooden architectural heritage that the color pigment used in Dancheong had a higher percentage of use of inorganic pigments and that the use rate of natural inorganic pigments was higher than that of artificial synthetic pigments in inorganic pigments.

Utilization of Construction and Demolition Mix Waste in the Fired Brick Production: The Impact on Mechanical Properties.

The European Green Deal, which emphasizes zero-waste economies, and waste recycling in construction and building materials, has arisen due to significant worldwide needs for solid waste recovery and usage. This ambitious study focuses on recycling mixed construction and demolition (C&D) waste into burnt bricks and investigating the influence of firing temperature. While pursuing its objectives, this is dependent on raw material characterization and burnt-brick product quality assessment. The recycling of mixed C&D waste is explored by mixing the waste into two soil types (alluvial and laterite) in ratios ranging from 5% to 45% at three firing temperatures (700 °C, 850 °C and 900 °C). The utilization of mixed C&D waste in amounts of 10% at 700 °C and 25% at 850 °C and 900 °C fulfilled the Indian standard. Although a fire at 700 °C results in less optimal waste utilization, it is beneficial and recommended for reducing the carbon footprint and energy use. Additional mineralogical and microstructural analyzes are performed on the optimal fired samples. The study's findings are promising for sustainable resource usage, reducing carbon footprint, and reducing waste disposal volume. This research is a big step toward the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and a circular economy.

Characterization and Antioxidant Activity of Banana Peels, Pineapple Peels, and Combination Extracts of both Peels as Raw Materials in the Development of Hard Candy

Kepok banana and pineapple are horticultural commodities found in West Kalimantan. The two fruits are generally used as processed foods such as fried bananas and pineapple jam. The use of fruit as food often leaves the peel as a by-product, which can produce waste twice the weight of the food consumed. Meanwhile, waste utilization is an innovation in food processing into functional products which are developed into hard candy. Therefore, this research aims to the specific and non-specific characterization of raw materials for making candy, namely the combination of banana and pineapple peel extract (KP-KN). The characterization is organoleptic tests on the content of ethanol-soluble and water-soluble extracts. The Total phenolic content was determined by the Follin ciocalticeu method with UV/Vis spectrophotometry. Furthermore, antioxidant activity tests with DPPH and FRAP methods using UV/Vis spectrophotometry and ELISA to determine antioxidant activity. The mineral content was observed using the molybdate vandalate method with UV/vis spectrophotometry and ICP-MS, Heavy metal contamination using the ICP-MS tool, and microbial contamination using the plate method. Moreover, the infundation process was carried out on banana and pineapple peels, and the results were evaporated using a food dehydrator to obtain a combination extract. The results showed that the organoleptically KP-KN combination extract had a bitter taste, pineapple smells, 15.57% ash content, ethanol soluble extract content of 55.10%, and 47.99% water-soluble extract. Also, the total phenolic of 6.22 g/Kg, as well as the mineral content of Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Iron (Fe), Magnesium (Mg), Zinc (Zn), and Phosphorus (P), which were 47.23 g/Kg, 291.43 mg/Kg, <1x10-6 g/Kg, 2.59x10-3 g/Kg, and 2.38 g/Kg, respectively. Meanwhile, the heavy metal and bacterial contamination test showed that Arsenic (As), Sn, Mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) were <1x10-6 g/Kg and Cadmium (Cd) was 0.0293. In the microbial contamination test with bacterial components including the ALT test, a value of 4.83 x 103 cfu/g was found, and there was no contamination from E.coli, mold, and yeast bacteria, DPPH and FRAP methods showed antioxidant activity combination extract banana peels and pineapple peels with values of 1390.96±2.83 mg/L and 4542.81±1.10 mg/L compare antioxidant activity of ascorbic acid as standard is 2.13 mg/L and 4.83 mg/L. The test with the KP-KN combined extract can be used as a raw material for making hard candy because it contains minerals needed by the body, meets the safety and quality requirements of traditional medicines, and has antioxidant activity in vitro.

Preservation characteristics and bacterial communities of crimped ensiled barley grains modulated by moisture content and additive application.

Information about the relationships between preservation characteristics and main bacterial communities of fermented feeds can guide decision making during feed preservation and silage additive development. The objective was to evaluate fermentation quality, aerobic stability, microbial quality and bacterial profile of crimped barley grains ensiled under three moisture contents (MC): 228 (low MC), 287 (medium MC) and 345 (high MC) g/kg fresh matter; and using four additive treatments: 1. Control (CONT), 2. Formic and propionic acid-based additive (FPA), 3. Inoculation with homofermentative and heterofermentative strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), and 4. Salt-based additive (SALT). There was a quadratic effect (p < 0.05) of incremental MC on pH where greater decline happened from low (5.81) to medium (4.83) MC than from medium to high (4.28) MC, while lactic acid concentration and aerobic stability increased in a linear manner (p < 0.05). Ammonia-N and acetic acid concentrations increased quadratically (p < 0.05) with increasing levels of MC. The effects of additives depended on MC so that improvements in preservation characteristics in response to LAB and SALT were observed at medium and high MC, while FPA was effective at all MC levels. A minor shift was observed in bacterial ecology from raw material towards low MC samples, with Erwiniaceae sp., Enterobacterales spp. and Pseudomonas dominating the fermentation. A major change occurred in medium and high MC materials, where Fructilactobacillus dominated the fermentation in CONT, FPA and SALT silages. LAB-treated silages at medium and high MC resulted in a distinguished pattern with dominance of Lentilactobacillus followed by Lactiplantibacillus. Most abundant communities in the samples, such as Fructilactobacillus, Erwiniaceae sp., Enterobacterales spp. and Pseudomonas, were correlated with several fermentation characteristics. Our results showed that crimped barley grains could be successfully ensiled under various MC and additive treatments. Low MC feeds had higher risk to be aerobically unstable while high MC resulted in more extensive fermentation, with potentially poor fermentation quality. The suitable additive depends on the raw material characteristics as LAB and SALT require relatively high MC to be effective, while FPA showed consistent improvements over all MC levels used in the current study. Awareness of the MC of grain prior to ensiling allows to identify the risks to preservation quality and provides information for choosing an effective additive.

Rheological measurements are used in the food industry to determine physical characteristics of raw materials, as well as semi-finished and finished products. We aimed to study the effects of ingredients and homogenization parameters on the rheological properties of mayonnaise prepared with pumpkin and rice oils, as well as various honeys.&#x0D; Mayonnaise samples were prepared with non-traditional ingredients, namely cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil, refined rice oil, and four varieties of honey (acacia, linden, forest, and spring). The samples were made in the traditional way on an Ultra Turrax T25 IKA homogenizer (3500–24 000 rpm). The rheological properties of honey and mayonnaise were determined on a Brookfield rotational viscometer.&#x0D; Forest honey had the highest viscosity, while linden honey had the lowest viscosity, compared to the other honeys. The sample of mayonnaise with forest honey had the highest effective viscosity (3.427 Pa·s) and consistency (101.26 Pa·sn). The use of whey powder provided mayonnaise with the most optimal rheological parameters. Of all carbohydrates, inulin HD had the best effect on the consistency of mayonnaise, with effective viscosity of 2.801 ± 0.001 Pa·s and a flow index of 0.2630 ± 0.0020. Disaccharides provided mayonnaise with higher viscosity and consistency than monosaccharides. Mayonnaise with fresh egg yolk had higher viscosity (2.656 ± 0.002 Pa·s) and consistency (65.640 ± 0.004 Pa·s) than the samples with other egg products. The rheological characteristics of mayonnaise were also determined by the homogenization time and rotor speed. Increasing the time from 2 to 4 min at 10 000 rpm raised the emulsion’s viscosity and consistency from 6.253 to 8.736 Pa·s and from 77.42 to 134.24 Pa·sn, respectively, as well as reduced the flow index from 0.2628 to 0.1995. The rotor speed of 10 000–12 000 rpm was optimal for mayonnaise with pumpkin and rice oils and honey.&#x0D; The studied samples of mayonnaise with pumpkin and rice oils, as well as honey, belong to non-Newtonian systems and pseudoplastic fluids. The empirical flow curves can be adequately described by the Herschel-Bulkley model. Our results can significantly increase the efficiency of mayonnaise production, improve its quality, and reduce production costs.

Development of individual approaches to the use of the gasoline fraction as a raw material for the process of hydrocatalytic isomerization

High-quality processing of petroleum feedstock and gas condensates from the Zhanazhol field will satisfy the demand for high-quality motor and boiler fuel, lubricating oils, petroleum coke, petrochemical synthesis raw materials. Satisfaction of the needs of various industrial sectors and the population in high-quality raw materials requires the development of petrochemical production that approaches European standards. The main consumers are cars and trucks, railway and water transport, as well as various power generators, military and agricultural equipment. In addition to the demand in the products themselves, the demand for fuel quality is also growing, which must not only meet the stringent requirements of world standards, but also have the quality characteristics of raw materials that satisfy the content of sulfur, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as possess a number of low-temperature properties. The purpose of the research is to develop individual approaches to the use of gasoline fractions of oil from the Zhanazhol field as a raw material for the process of hydrocatalytic isomerization, as well as the use of an isomerized product as a component for obtaining clean ecological commercial gasoline. Composition, indicating the potential content of petroleum products and various impurities. As well as a method for describing the technological process of catalytic reforming or hydrocatalytic isomerization of gasoline fractions of oil. The study of the Zhanazhol oil and gas condensate field established specific features of the physicochemical properties of oil with a high content of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, paraffin hydrocarbons, and the transformation of n-alkanes of the gasoline fraction. Special systems for the collection and treatment of oil, gas, water, and installations for sulfur decanting in a corrosion-resistant state were formed based on the chemical properties of this raw material. The effectiveness of the use of catalytic reforming, under the best conditions of the process, aimed at obtaining low-solidification fuels of petroleum feedstock, has been proven. The use of aluminum-platinum catalysts from high-temperature to low-temperature isomerization is characterized. The optimal technological parameters for the use of catalytic systems have been determined. The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that during the hydrocatalytic isomerization of raw materials with a significant sulfur content, the catalyst quickly becomes intoxicated, so it is advisable to subject it to hydrotreatment, which increases the technical and economic performance of the processing unit. Efficient catalytic systems have been selected that carry out the process of isomerization of the pentane-hexane fraction under various temperature conditions. The optimal technological parameters of their use were determined. The research results can be used to calculate the mass and energy balance of the catalyst regeneration process.

NOVEL AND RAPID DRYING CHARACTERIZATION TEST SUITABLE FOR THE BRICK AND TILE INDUSTRY

The industrial raw material compositions in brick or tile production are normally adapting from time to time with novel clays. The proper raw material change must be based on the reliable raw material characterization tests. Regardless to the fact that commonly used (Bigot, Muller-Biehl, Ratzenberger, Piltz, Hermansons, etc.) drying sensitivity criterions allow the comparison of different raw materials they are not related with the mineral composition and mechanical nature of clays. Besides these are time-demanding tests. The X-ray characterization of raw material is reliable only when orientated samples are prepared. In other cases, it is necessary to have additional characterization test such as thermo-differential (DTA) and thermo-gravimetric (TG) analysis in order to confirm the presence or absence of individual clay minerals. The quantity of the interlayer water content present in clays is in direct correlation with the mineralogical composition and the clay type. This effect can be easily qualified on the DTA/TG curves. This was a trigger for establishing the novel rapid drying sensitivity criteria. The analysis of different raw materials has confirmed that the moisture loss registered on TG curves at 2000C can be used as novel drying sensitivity criterion. This value is respectively for insensitive raw materials less than 2.0 while for highly sensitive one is larger than 2.80. The proposed method is very simple, rapid and reliable for the application in brick and tile industry. The second objective of this paper was to compare the results of the proposed method with the widely used Bigoth, Ratzenberg and Piltz tests. A good correlation was found.

Graphene Nanoplatelets-Based Textured Polymeric Fibrous Fabrics for the Next-Generation Devices.

Graphene is a 2D crystal composed of carbon atoms in a hexagonal arrangement. From their isolation, graphene nanoplatelets (nCD) have revolutionized material science due to their unique properties, and, nowadays, there are countless applications, including drug delivery, biosensors, energy storage, and tissue engineering. Within this work, nCD were combined with PLA, a widely used and clinically relevant thermoplastic polymer, to produce advanced composite texturized electrospun fabric for the next-generation devices. The electrospinning manufacturing process was set-up by virtue of a proper characterization of the composite raw material and its solution. From the morphological point of view, the nCD addition permitted the reduction of the fiber diameter while the texture allowed more aligned fibers. After that, mechanical features of fabrics were tested at RT and upon heating (40 °C, 69 °C), showing the reinforcement action of nCD mainly in the texturized mats at 40 °C. Finally, mats' degradation in simulated physiological fluid was minimal up to 30 d, even if composite mats revealed excellent fluid-handling capability. Moreover, no toxic impurities and degradation products were pointed out during the incubation. This work gains insight on the effects of the combination of composite carbon-based material and texturized fibers to reach highly performing fabrics.

Combining omics tools for the characterization of the microbiota of diverse vinegars obtained by submerged culture: 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and MALDI-TOF MS.

Vinegars elaborated in southern Spain are highly valued all over the world because of their exceptional organoleptic properties and high quality. Among the factors which influence the characteristics of the final industrial products, the composition of the microbiota responsible for the process and the raw material used as acetification substrate have a crucial role. The current state of knowledge shows that few microbial groups are usually present throughout acetification, mainly acetic acid bacteria (AAB), although other microorganisms, present in smaller proportions, may also affect the overall activity and behavior of the microbial community. In the present work, the composition of a starter microbiota propagated on and subsequently developing three acetification profiles on different raw materials, an alcohol wine medium and two other natural substrates (a craft beer and fine wine), was characterized and compared. For this purpose, two different "omics" tools were combined for the first time to study submerged vinegar production: 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, a culture-independent technique, and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), a culture-dependent method. Analysis of the metagenome revealed numerous taxa from 30 different phyla and highlighted the importance of the AAB genus Komagataeibacter, which was much more frequent than the other taxa, and Acetobacter; interestingly, also archaea from the Nitrososphaeraceae family were detected by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. MALDI-TOF MS confirmed the presence of Komagataeibacter by the identification of K. intermedius. These tools allowed for identifying some taxonomic groups such as the bacteria genera Cetobacterium and Rhodobacter, the bacteria species Lysinibacillus fusiformis, and even archaea, never to date found in this medium. Definitely, the effect of the combination of these techniques has allowed first, to confirm the composition of the predominant microbiota obtained in our previous metaproteomics approaches; second, to identify the microbial community and discriminate specific species that can be cultivated under laboratory conditions; and third, to obtain new insights on the characterization of the acetification raw materials used. These first findings may contribute to improving the understanding of the microbial communities' role in the vinegar-making industry.

Properties and technical characteristics of Casira pottery, Jujuy, Argentina

In this work, the results of a multi-technique characterization of a type of pottery production with high cultural and economic relevance from the only potter town in Argentina are presented and correlated. Raw materials, a prepared paste, and ceramic samples were studied. Chemical, structural, textural, microstructural, and thermal features were assessed and described in terms of the raw materials characteristics, fabrication, and firing conditions. Some distinctive properties of this Casira ceramic production, like the thermal expansion coefficient and other technological properties, are reported for the first time. This allowed the establishment of characteristic behaviors of the ceramics under study, which also constitute the basis for their traceability.

Characteristics of Heterogeneous Catalysts Fly Ash Fraction of Light Shell and Fiber of Palm Oil Mill Solid Waste Grown on Peatlands

Utilization of biomass from agricultural waste in Indonesia is still not optimal. Biomass from agricultural waste containing of Si and Ca can be used for the manufacture of heterogeneous base catalysts. The catalyst produced will be applied to the manufacture of biodiesel. A biodiesel quality test and Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) test are carried out, including chemical composition analysis test (X-RD), three-dimensional structure (SEM), material characterization (FT-IR), surface and basic properties (BET), and mass-weight change (TGA). The research method used is an experimental method, where this research was carried out in 3 stages; the first stage is to determine the test and characteristics of crude palm oil raw material, the second is on the manufacture of palm ash catalyst, and the third is the application of a heterogeneous catalyst based on palm fly ash in the manufacture of biodiesel. The results on the characteristics of crude palm oil after purification using 5% shell activated charcoal showed an increase in quality, including the number of free fatty acids 3.86% w/w, water content 0.0015%, impurities content 0.0485%. The acid number of 13.840mgKOH/g is still within the quality standard, while for the quality of the biodiesel produced, the calcination catalyst treatment at a temperature of 700ºC for 5 hours for the density parameter is 0.860g/ml, water content is 0.03%-wb, iodine number is 26.30gI2/100g, saponification number 90.88mgKOH/g, and free fatty acid number 0.38%w/w have values according to biodiesel standard ASTM D6751. Catalyst calcined at 700ºC 5 hours found mesopore (7.93 nm) with a surface area 25.288 m²/g. It also has CaO around 36º peaks, where catalyst particles are spherical with a smooth surface.

Regional differentiation based on volatile compounds via HS-SPME/GC–MS and chemical compositions comparison of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) seeds

Cannabis sativa L., has gained increasing attention due to its potential applications in various fields. However, the compositions of hemp seeds from different producing regions are quite different, significantly affects resource utilization. This work conducted the regional differentiation of hemp seeds from Dongbei, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia and Shanxi in China based on the headspace solid phase micro-extraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC–MS) and multivariate analysis. Moreover, the chemical composition, amino acid and fatty acid profiles of hemp seeds and antioxidant activities of hemp protein isolate were evaluated from above four producing regions. The results showed that hemp seeds had large amounts of fat (24.30–34.65%) and protein (21.87–23.40%) with ideal amino acid and fatty acid profiles and large amounts of volatiles. More than 300 volatile compounds were detected, and 35 key contributors to the unique aroma were finally identified out of 110 volatile compounds with odor activity values (OAVs), including 14 aldehydes, 2 ketones, 4 alcohols, 2 esters, 1 acid, 3 aromatics, 5 terpenes and 4 other compounds. The content of alcohols in all hemp seeds was highest and 16 unique volatiles only found in hemp seeds from Shanxi. Meanwhile, the VIP scores indicated that acetic acid, hexanal, hexan-1-ol and eucalyptol contributed the most to the difference among groups. According to the results of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, the hemp seeds from Shanxi seemed to have the better quality. Therefore, multivariate analysis combined with HS-SPME/GC–MS could effectively distinguish hemp seeds from different producing regions, and thus decipher the geographical characteristics of raw materials.

Evaluating the emission of VOCs and HCHO from furniture based on the surface finish methods and retention periods

Furniture emits various VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and formaldehyde (HCHO) into the indoor air. These indoor air pollutants can cause SBS (Sick Building Syndrome), such as sickness, headache, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, and loss of concentration. This paper aims to provide essential data for improving indoor air quality by identifying the characteristics of the emission of VOCs and HCHO according to the characteristics of raw materials and finishing methods for furniture materials. As a methodology, a small chamber experiment was conducted with eight different test pieces with different base materials compositions and surface finishing methods. VOCs and HCHO were collected and analyzed by GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) and HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography). The result showed that the TVOC in the composite material differed according to the retention period of the raw material. HCHO preferentially affects the processing method and the storage period after molding rather than the retention period of raw materials. TVOC emission was lower when the surface finishing method was applied, like paint finish. HCHO emission was getting lower when the adhesive was used during molding. Furniture applied to new houses is installed indoors in the form of finished products (composite materials). It was confirmed that the emission amount from furniture was generally higher than that of the general interior finishing material. Not only using eco-friendly raw materials, securing a specific retention period for raw materials, selecting eco-friendly processing methods, securing a particular retention period after molding, and post-construction management (ventilation and bake-out) should be done through a comprehensive evaluation of furniture.

The Story of the International Scientific Commission of the UISPP for Archaeometry of Pre- and Protohistoric Inorganic Artifacts, Materials and Technologies

The International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (UISPP), an organisation with over 90 years of history, includes all the fields and disciplines that contribute to the development of prehistory and protohistory. To achieve their goals, the UISPP organises periodically a world congress on prehistoric and protohistoric sciences. Based on proposals received, the general assembly decides on the creation of scientific commissions, following the advice of the executive committee of the UISPP. The main objective of these commissions is to promote and coordinate international research in a specific or specialised domain of the prehistoric and protohistoric sciences between each world congress. Based on the success and interest shown in a session of the 17th UISPP Congress, the need has arisen to create a new scientific commission in the field of archaeometry. This brief text describes the creation of this commission and its scientific activities to date. The commission aims at discussing and transmitting the archaeometric approaches to technologies in Prehistory and Protohistory concerning lithic technology, metallurgy, ceramics and glass making; gathering and organising the results, conclusions and circumstances of archaeometric case studies of artifacts; paying particular attention to production, procurement and characterisation of raw materials, and fabrication technologies; and discussing relevant interdisciplinary investigation methods and techniques.
