PENGARUH DUKUNGAN SOSIAL TEMAN SEBAYA TERHADAP PERENCANAAN KARIER SISWA

This research is motivated by the finding of students who are still confused in choosing a major to enter higher education. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of peer social support on student career planning. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study, using a natural setting approach, which places more emphasis on what the informants experience naturally. Determination of informants in this study using purposive sampling method. Collecting data using observation, interview, documentation, and tri-accounting techniques. Data analysis uses the Miles Hurberman method, in which Miles Huberman divides 3 stages in data analysis, namely data reduction, display data, and conclusion drawing / verification. The results showed that there was an effect of peer social support on student career planning, it was shown from emotional support, support, appreciation, information support.

Choice of pharmacy, professional perceptions, and career plans of students in three Nigerian schools of pharmacy

Background: A progressive increase in the number of students admitted to study pharmacy in Nigeria has not been met with sufficient documented evidence of their preferences and motivations. Studies on this would aid in designing a programme that matches student expectations, whilst maintaining regulatory requirements. Aim: This study evaluated students’ preferences in wanting to study pharmacy, perceptions of the profession and career choice. Method: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among students of all study years across three Nigerian Schools of Pharmacy after obtaining approval from their managements. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The response rate of the study was 87.5%. Most students from the three universities reported a preference for pharmacy as their first choice of course: 733 (86.0%) for University of Nigeria (UNN), 66 (71.7%) for Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) and 48 (45.3%) for Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). The students’ mean perception of pharmacy was 77.6±13.5%. However, 69.1% (UNN), 64.1% (NAU) and 59.4% (ESUT) students preferred academic pharmacy to other practice areas in pharmacy. Conclusions: Pharmacy was the preferred course of choice for most students currently enrolled in the programme. The students had generally positive perceptions towards the profession.

Interest in technology among medical students early in their clinical experience

BackgroundThe world is in the midst of the “digital” revolution characterized by the ascendency of computerization, information systems and artificial intelligence with an emphasis on innovation and creativity. This revolution has affected current medical practice and promises to significantly impact it in the future. This requires physician’s understanding and participation in adopting such technology. This study aimed to explore the role technology plays in the future career plans of medical students. MethodsA questionnaire examining selection criteria for medical specialty choice, criteria for choosing a post-residency job and demographic data was completed by a convenience sample of 5th-year Israeli medical students. ResultsTwo-hundred forty-two students (51 % men) completed the questionnaire, an 84 % response rate. Only a third (35 %) rated the specialty selection criterion "provides mechanical/ technological challenges" as important, while only 7% considered as important that a specialty requires skills in computer science. Few students were interested in post-residency positions requiring much technological knowledge (25 %) and requiring much skill with computerized information systems (13 %). Male students were significantly more interested than females in such positions and these students more often reported that they were considering careers in surgery and its subspecialties. This surgical bent was confirmed by the 42 % of students interested in post-residency positions that include time in the operating room having more interest in positions requiring much technological knowledge than the students not interested in operating room time. ConclusionsThis preliminary study demonstrated that as a group the students’ expressed relatively little interest in medical specialties and post-residency positions involving technological challenges and knowledge of information (computer) science. Yet, the sub-group interested in the surgical specialties had such interests. These findings were perplexing since the students belong to Generations Y and Z who are steeped in the use of smartphones and social media. Therefore, we failed to support our hypothesis that Generation Y and Z students would be attracted to specialties and positions that provide them with technological challenges. Furthermore, medical educators need to explore this apparent lack of interest in technology in order to insure that the future physician workforce is ready to face future “digital” challenges.

Parental Attention and Learning Motivation Contribution to Career Planning of Vocational School Students

Ideally, vocational high schools are able to produce graduates who can immediately enter the world of work. However, the reality is that there are still vocational high school graduate students who are still unemployed after graduating, this is because students do not prepare career plans beforehand. This type of research is quantitative with a correlational descriptive approach. The sample in this study amounted to 32 vocational students who were determined using purposive sampling. The instrument used was a parental attention questionnaire, a learning motivation questionnaire and a student career planning questionnaire. In addition, researchers also used a Likert scale model instrument. The analysis technique used is simple regression and multiple regression. The research results found that; 1) parental attention contributes significantly to student career planning, 2) learning motivation contributes significantly to student career planning, and 3) parental attention and learning motivation together contribute significantly to student career planning.

GAMBARAN KEPUTUSAN PERENCANAN KARIER SISWA SMKN 9 GARUT

Research on the decision description about the career of students of SMKN 9 Garut is a descriptive quantitative study with the aim of obtaining an overview of the level of career planning of students at SMKN 9 Garut. Based on the research results, it is found that career planning decisions at SMKN 9 Garut are in the high category on each indicator, which consists of I believe that the goal is; involved in information seeking; and select interests in further education and employment. This illustrates that students have: optimism in the continuing education and employment database, a desire to collect information that supports further education and employment, and a tendency to determine further education or employment. It must be planned in advance; to plan where someone wants to go and what he wants to achieve.The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of symbolic modeling techniques in the development of student career planning; to choose further studies that suit their interests and talents. The type of the research is qualitative research with observation, interview, and documentation methods. The research subjects were 5 students. This research was carried out based on the phenomenon at SMP Negeri 6 Palangka Raya, where there were students who were still confused about choosing further studies according to their interests and talents. The results showed that after being given symbolic modeling with videos, students experienced changes such as: (1) Students were able to understand their strengths and weaknesses in certain fields; (2) Students begin to be able to plan careers after graduating from school; (3) Students were able to prepare options for the next level of study. From these data the researchers concluded that symbolic modeling was effective in helping students at SMP Negeri 6 Palangka Raya in planning their careers.

Recruiting Underrepresented Minority Students into Psychiatry Residency: a Virtual Diversity Initiative.

ObjectiveThe COVID-19 pandemic has significantly hindered medical student career planning and clinical rotations. Recruitment and networking may be more influential in match outcomes than previous cycles. Medical residency training programs have significant challenges in recruiting diverse applicants. The American Psychiatric Association’s Black Caucus developed a virtual recruitment event for residency programs with robust diversity initiatives and underrepresented medical students. This article evaluates our methods, short-term results, and influence on participating medical students.MethodsThe authors sent web-based invitations to all programs subscribed to the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training listserv. Programs that demonstrated intention and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion were selected. The authors used various social media platforms and the Black Caucus listserv to advertise to medical students. Student participants received an online feedback survey consisting of multiple-choice and open-ended questions.ResultsThirty-six programs and one hundred seven medical students participated in the 2-day diversity fair. Seventy-six students completed the following survey, which is a response rate of 71%. A majority of students reported that this event strongly influenced their interest in a program (71.05) and are actively considering a residency program they had not previously considered (69.74). A majority of medical students (89.47) strongly agreed that program representatives treated them with professionalism and respect.ConclusionThis event improved communication between highly valued underrepresented minority students applicants and residency programs. A notable majority of participants found the program overwhelmingly beneficial.

The Effectiveness of Life Skill Education-Based Digital Content to Improve Student Career Planning

Career planning is one of important skill aspects taught to students through various methods. Most counselors tend to apply face to face method to teach it. Meanwhile, due to COVID-19 pandemic this method is truly difficult to be applied. For this reason, this studyattempted to examine the effectiveness of life skill education-based digital content to improve students’ career planning by involving 150 students. The results of analysis showed that students’ careerplanning successfully improved after the implementation of career guidance through life skill education-based digital content applied (t = -189.37, p = 0.01). Based on the results, life skill education based digital content is highly recommended to improve career planning in this COVID-19 pandemic

Perencanaan Karir Siswa Ditinjau Dari Jenis Kelamin

Objective study to determine career planning of male and female students, as well as to determine whether there are differences in career planning between male and female students of class XI SMK Islam Wijaya Kusuma. Research method is quantitative approach with a comparative method. Data and data sources were students of class XI SMK Islam Wijaya Kusuma, totaling 120 students out of 156 students. This study uses career planning instrument. The data analysis technique used is t test. The results showed career planning for male students of class XI SMK Islam Wijaya Kusuma in medium category and career planning for female students in the high category. The results also showed there significant differences in the career planning of male and female students of class XI SMK Islam Wijaya Kusuma. This is evidenced by the t count of 13.751> t table of 1.65787 at α = 0.05.

Exploration on College Students' Career Planning and Innovative Talent Training Mode

In the new era, China's demand for talents is also increasing. It is of great significance for college students to do a good job in career planning for their future development. This paper discusses the career planning of college students and the training mode of innovative talents.

The chemistry of inequality

Workforce More and more data on the issues surrounding diversity and inclusion in STEM are surfacing. Stockard et al. contribute to these data by providing evidence of inequities in experiences and career plans of doctoral students in chemistry. Using mixed-model regression analyses, they show that graduate students identifying as part of a traditionally underrepresented group were less likely to report supportive relationships with peers and postdocs. Women were less likely to (i) report supportive relationships with advisers, (ii) commit to remaining in chemistry, and (iii) aspire to academic research careers. Overall, the results suggest that the reality for traditionally underrepresented graduate students remains full of subtle obstacles, which are likely not specific to the chemistry field, that continue to impede efforts toward a diverse and inclusive scientific workforce. Equity for women and underrepresented minorities in STEM: Graduate experiences and career plans in chemistry

Recent events prompted scientists in the United States and throughout the world to consider how systematic racism affects the scientific enterprise. This paper provides evidence of inequities related to race-ethnicity and gender in graduate school experiences and career plans of PhD students in the top 100 ranked departments in one science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) discipline, chemistry. Mixed-model regression analyses were used to examine factors that might moderate these differences. The results show that graduate students who identified as a member of a racial/ethnic group traditionally underrepresented in chemistry (underrepresented minorities, URM) were significantly less likely than other students to report that their financial support was sufficient to meet their needs. They were also less likely to report having supportive relationships with peers and postdocs. Women, and especially URM women, were significantly less likely to report supportive relationships with advisors. Despite their more negative experiences in graduate school, students who identified as URM expressed greater commitment to finishing their degree and staying in the field. When there was at least one faculty member within their departments who also identified as URM they were also more likely than other students to aspire to a university professorship with an emphasis on research. Men were significantly more likely than women to express strong commitment to finishing the PhD and remaining in chemistry, but this difference was stronger in top-ranked departments. Men were also more likely than women to aspire to a professorship with an emphasis on research, and this difference remained when individual and departmental-level variables were controlled.

A Nationwide Survey Study on Medical Student Experience in Acute Care Surgery

BackgroundThere is little known about medical student education in acute care surgery (ACS)—how much and what type of exposure students receive in the specialty. The aim of this study was to investigate the current status of ACS education provided to students in U.S. medical schools. Materials and methodsWe created an online survey tool covering the surgical clerkship and ACS curriculum and distributed this survey to the official email list of the Association for Surgical Education Committee on Clerkship Directors. ResultsA total of 57 of 294 (19.4%) responses were received. All respondents reported that at least some of their major teaching hospitals are affiliated with an ACS service and have a level 1 or 2 trauma center. Although almost two-thirds (61.8%) of respondents believe that medical students should have formal ACS education in the form of a clinical rotation, an ACS rotation is mandatory at only 16.4% of programs and is optional at 69.1% of programs as part of the surgical clerkship curriculum. The duration of ACS rotations ranges from 1 to 6 wk, and half of programs require students to take overnight call (most often 1-2 nights/wk). The most common pathologies that students see on ACS include appendicitis, biliary disease and cholecystitis, intestinal obstruction, and trauma. ConclusionsMedical students across the nation have varying exposure to ACS during their clinical training. With the continued growth of the ACS specialty, further study is warranted to examine the impact of undergraduate ACS education on student career planning.

Pengaruh Kondisi Ekonomi Keluarga Terhadap Perencanaan Karir Siswa

<em>The purpose of this study is that the researcher wants to see how much influence the family economic conditions have on the career planning of students of SMAN 1 Mungka District. The population in this study were 49 students of class XII of SMAN 1 Mungka District and the samples taken were 49 students of class XII using total sampling. The results showed the regression results were positive (+), namely Ῠ = 41.537 + 1.075X. The meaning of this number is that if the family's economic condition (X) then the value of the career planning constellation (Y) is 41.537, and for each additional 1% of the family's economic condition (X), career planning will increase by 1.075. Hypothesis test results in this study found that the F count> from the F table (93.584> 4.04) thus it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted there is a significant influence between family economic conditions on the career planning of students of SMAN 1 Kec. Mungka, and also the determination test has been carried out, it is known that economic conditions affect the career planning of students as much as 97.8% and the remaining 2.2% is influenced by other variables outside the research variable.</em>

Malay Culture Effect on Career Planning Student SMA City 9 Bengkulu

This research is motivated by the discovery of Malay culture students who have not thought of a clear career plan after graduating from high school, Malay culture students are also found to be confused in choosing majors in Higher Education. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Malay culture on student career planning. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study with a natural setting approach. Data collection in this study using observation techniques, interviews, carried out simultaneously with data analysis. Data analysis using the Spradley model, namely through 4 stages of data analysis including domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and discovering cultural themes. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be explained the influence of Malay culture on student career planning, namely: 1) discipline; students culture Malay discipline in completing the tasks of the teacher, 2) responsibilities; Malay cultural students have a high sense of responsibility in doing assignments, 3) light-handed; Malay cultural students have a mild attitude in mobilizing things that support learning activities, 4) high learning desires; Malay cultural students have a high desire in learning activities both at school and at home, 5) diligent; Malay cultural students are also classified as students who are diligent, it shows students in working on creative tasks.

Career planning for physical disability students

Career Planning for Students with Physical Disabilities is crucial to be prepared. A good career planning picture must contain four aspects of career planning which consist of seeking information, understanding, making decisions, and career achievement. The purpose of this study was to explore in-depth career planning in students of the Special School for Physical Disabilities (SLB) 1 Yogyakarta. This study used a qualitative approach, with the type of case study research, the subjects in this study were two students with physical disabilities, the first subject had moderate cerebral palsy and the second subject experienced abnormalities in the muscle system and skin groups. (musculus skeletal system) spina bifida. Then the secondary sources are teachers and parents. The data collection technique used triangulation in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study concluded that the career planning of the two early TA and DI students had differences. TA has not been able to do career planning. Because in the search for information, understanding, decision making, and career skills, TA cannot do it. Meanwhile, DI is capable of career planning because DI can find career information, even though DI is still a little doubtful due to lack of confidence, DI career decision making can be even though it is still not effective in managing free time. DI career skills are said to be capable, even though DI does not attend any additional education (courses).

Career Planning in Vocational High School

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of students who do not understand their interests and talents so that they have an impact on their careers and do not get information from counseling teachers regarding career information. Career planning is a provision or process that an individual must undergo and go through in an effort to achieve the desired career goals. This study aims to describe the career planning of vocational students which includes, 1) self-knowledge and understanding, 2) knowledge and understanding of work and 3) integration of personal information with existing jobs. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive study. The sample of this research was 246 students of class X and XI SMKN 1 Pasaman in the academic year 2020/2021 who were selected using the simple random sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire about the career planning of students of SMKN 1 Pasaman with the Likert scale model answer choices. Data analysis using descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The results revealed that:, 1) the career planning of SMKN 1 Pasaman students from all aspects was generally in the good category with a percentage of 58.13%, 2) the career planning of SMKN 1 Pasaman students from the aspect of knowledge and understanding of themselves was generally in the good category with a percentage 52.44%, 3) career planning of SMKN 1 Pasaman students from the aspect of knowledge and understanding of work is generally in a good category with a percentage of 47.97% and 4) career planning for SMKN 1 Pasaman students from the aspect of integrating self-information with existing jobs, generally in pretty good category with a percentage of 55.28%.
